I could try, but I'm not sure if remember that much Japanese. sweatdrop

I used to have a Japanese language buddy which helped motivate me. Since we gradually stopped practicing, I haven't studied Japanese that much, sadly. neutral

But, I'll see what I can do. smile

How exactly does the site work? I was under the impression that you had to have a webcam (which I don't) and just talked to people in other languages.

Er...

It's starting to look like Livemocha isn't the best site for learning grammar. Sometimes I'd just like if they'd explain some things, you know?

Like in the last Japanese lesson I did.... sweatdrop

My problem with the program is when you have learned a lesson , they then expect you to do so much more in the writing task. Write stuff that I haven't learnt. sweatdrop

Yeah I agree. That's the reason why I failed so much in Mandarin.

Oh btw, I re-recorded one of my Japanese things. I still made the same mistakes as I did the last time. xd

Here it is: http://www.livemocha.com/japanese/speaking/exercises/1840679

I know it sucks and is kind of annoying. Cover your ears.

Yeah. Because of this, it made me to scared to continue learning Mandarin. Why must they do that! I liked the language very much, but because of Livemocha, I got so discouraged. cry

Like everyone here it seems there are parts of Livemocha I like and others that really annoy me.

I wish they would teach the writing to you in languages like arabic. Fortunately I had already taught the script to myself. I really don't want to do the writing excersizes because of the fact that they don't teach you to write what they ask you to write, and I'm too much a perfectionist for that.
I do like the free lessons though even if I never finnish them.

Being able to talk to native speakers has been so useful though. It's so motivating to know people that speak the language.

I juss joined , and it's kind of odd how they make you write submissions that you haven't even learnt yet. It's like .. woah .. new vocabulary much ? :S

LingQ is so much better than Livemocha in my opinion which is why I stopped using it because I felt I wasn't really learning much and even though the native speakers would record their voices, I still couldn't understand and they wouldn't really tell me what I was doing wrong pronunciation wise.

Danes(not all just internet trolls and what not) for some reason LOVE to flame people for learning their language and and at times WILL discourage you from learning it which is quite sad.

I've used Livemocha for a couple of languages. It's okay for the basics, but it's not spectacular. Also, I've just started their beginning Arabic course and it's pretty bad - the recordings are of poor quality and inconsistent - they randomly use synonyms that hadn't been introduced yet and don't always reflect the written text. Also, there's no effort to teach the script, even though they do use it. For languages that don't use a variant of the Latin alphabet, they need to add a section in the beginning on the text.
I don't know if it's just me, but it'd be helpful if the Arabic writing were a little bigger, too - it's hard to read such a small font when you're not used to the script at all. Finally, the Arabic text is often written with the letters as they would be in isolation, rather than strung together like a word is supposed to be.

I don't use it anymore, but have used it in the past for Spanish, Arabic, and Korean.

I love being able to connect with native speakers. I usually learn to read/write a language easily, but my speaking and listening comprehension are terrible because I have so few people to practice with, and Livemocha really helped.

However, while I found the Spanish lessons pretty accurate, as lili of the lamplight said the Arabic lessons are terrible. Truly terrible. Not only are they inconsistent and incorrect, they also frequently use dialect rather than standard. They are also glitchy. The magnet exercises are appalling. I gave up with it.

Unfortunately, this made me second guess using it for Korean. I already had some knowledge of Arabic beforehand that helped me to recognize some of the mistakes (apart from the glitches), but with Korean I knew nothing, so how would I know if the lessons were accurate or not?

I just went back to my account today, and they just redid the lessons. They teach more class-like lessons now.
I don't know about anyone else here, but the only people who request a chat speak arabic or turkish. I never get to speak to anyone in german.

I've been on livemocha for a while now. It's great because I get at least some feedback for German, considering I'm not taking classes it's nice to get help from a living person sometimes.
