I think Poseidon was probably the most important to the Greeks themselves. As god of the sea, earthquakes, horses, and sometimes-consort of Demeter, I think his worship originated in the older, Minoan culture. Sort of like how most cultures start out earth-focused before they graduate to the worship of "heavenly" gods.

Hades with absolutely no hesitation. My lord is looked down upon too often, and many consider him evil. Number one, he gave humans oil. Number two, he gave humans gold, silver, etc, which even the other Gods themselves use. Even if he was evil, I'm sure you would be as well if you were condemded underground for eternity because you got unlucky with a draw of lots. Respect the lord Hades forever or watch below for signs of fire. burning_eyes

I notice no-one picked Zeus on the poll. Probably because he's a hypocrite and a whore. But y'know, it's probably pretty tough to rule the world. So many people with problems you have to solve.

And Poseidon is the diety representing water, which humans are pretty much made up of and cannot survive without.

Regardless, I vote Hades. He's one of very few honest Greek dieties.

Hades is not honest.

My point would be that he KIDNAPPED and married his niece, and Persephone is not happy to be there at all. And contrary to popular belief, he did actually cheat on his wife with some nymphs, I believe. So I agree.

But did he lie about kidnapping Persephone? I'm pretty sure he made a deal with Demeter so at least one god is happy all the time. And about the cheating, you don't hate Zues for it, you don't hate Aphrodite for it, and when you live as long as the gods, you get bored very easily.

i really believe that you're putting to much on Zues.
after all, when it came down to it he was kind of wise...
sorta...
but Hades is my favorite, nonetheless, because he;'s just really cool

while I super love all three, I'm in a Poseidon mood this week. Last week it was Hades, and I'm very rarely in a Zeus mood.

All are awesome of course. . . . I feel bad for Zeus since others tend to hate on him more. Come guys everyone needs a hypocrital whorey guy around . . . for the fun

I'd say Zeus. Without his famous promiscuity, a great chunk of gods would have never existed.

The point is that people sometimes pretty much call Hades a sweet, innocent, little angel saint when he was clearly not perfect and did naughty stuff just like Zeus.

While he didn't lie about stealing Persephone, he didn't let Demeter know that he kidnapped her. He probably wouldn't have ever let Demeter know if Zeus hadn't convinced him to reason with Demeter since she refused to usher in vegetation. And even then he didn't exactly play fair he tricked Persephone into staying with him by getting her to eat the seeds. Not exactly my definition of honest, but it does make for a captivating story.

And also often the cheating is the one thing that makes people dislike Zeus and Aphrodite, which kind of annoys me. If you ask me their promiscuity is due to 2 things 1. They both have unhappy marriages and 2. They clearly have the highest sex drives of the deities. While that really is not an excuse for cheating, they couldn't get a divorce because Hera had the Queen title and Aphrodite was stuck with Hephaestus since it was arranged that way. Besides I am sort of willing to excuse the behavior because if not for how they acted we wouldn't be able to function without Eros, Persephone, Artemis, Apollo, Hermes, etc.

I dunno about how Aphrodite felt about her lovers besides Ares and Adonis, but I think Zeus actually showed he cared about the women he seduced since he tried to protect them from Hera and he did the right thing when Semele was struck dead due to the oath she forced him to make that made him reveal his god form to her, leaving him to put Dionysus in his thigh. I think that that shows me he isn't ALL bad. He isn't all good either but he's not heartless like some people paint him as.
