Im'rahi turned to focus her attention on Ethe while she spoke, she had to nod her head in agreement. It was almost unnatural that intrigue and manipulation weren't very strong attributes of her character. She couldn't help but wonder if perhaps the near fatal attempt on her life as a child had scarred her horribly wrong. That she had become something that she never should have been. She shuddered at the thought. She wasn't that much different than other drow was she?

She really needed to get into the act of using those sides of her. She knew they had to be there, she was one of the most blood thirsty Houses in the Underdark. There had to be something primal inside of her, somewhere down deep. She just had to find a way to bring it out, being weak was totally out of the question. Especially in her field of work. She knew at least three healers who had been horrible maimed and killed because they hadn't been very careful of who they had treated. She didn't want that to happen to her.

Im'rahi nearly shook from the laughter that suddenly bubbled forth from the teacher and turned to stare at her in obvious surprise.

"Well, then perhaps it is someone who doesn't appear to gain much from your demise? Sometimes it's the people you least expect in such cases; someone who may have been on the wrong end of one of your own intrigues perhaps? Or maybe some unknown party that was caught in the backlash of a spell maybe?" Im'rahi asked, trying to think of as many ideas that might help the two of them come up with an inkling to who may be behind the attack on Ethe.

Ethe wondered at the shock on Im'rahi's face. Did the girl think that her laughter was a sign of madness? Ethe did not think about it more than a second. She dove into thoughts of which drow she might little be suspecting. It was a dangerous point. Those who strike at you are the ones you have given the opportunity- by forgetting them.

She thought hard. They had waited to attack when she was well in place and quite comfortable in her routine at the school. This made the teacher think of the one other teacher who had certainly the most cause for revenge in mind- Uzatiyl. There were no teachers immediately below Ethe to take her place. Her position was very specialized to her own work. But despite this, the position had been created and space found for her labs by moving the teacher Uzatiyl to another department. She had fallen out of favor and lost her private labs to please Ethe. Ethe had been wary of her. But not anymore. She had forgotten about Uzatiyl after hearing that the teacher was progressing and moving up the ranks in her own department.

The enchantress felt foolish for not giving Uzatiyl any credit. Of course. No matter how high she moved in rank on her own, there was no replacement for the honor of being given your own private lab and staff.

"A name comes to mind now. You are right. There is someone here that I was watching, expecting, for her to do something. But lately I have written her off. Maybe I was wrong to do so- Professor Uzatiyl."

Im'rahi blinked at the name that Ethe finally spoke. Oh dear lord..her? Im'rahi shuddered slightly and then tried to compose herself. The professor and her hadn't really gotten along very well. She had studied under the professor the first year she had shown up and it had taken ages to even figure out what the professor expected of her. And now..it turned out that the professor was capable of murder.

Im'rahi closed her eyes for a moment and pinched the bridge of her nose as she slowly breathed in and then out and stilled her spiraling emotions.

"All right, now that we know who is behind this, what do you want to do now?"
Im'rahi asked in a very composed tone.
"Do you want to hit her back with her own medicine? Or find another weakness in her to exploit?"

Ethe could see the healer react to Uzatiyl's name. They must have crossed paths, "You know Uzatiyl? She isn't pleasant, is she? No great loss there for either of us then." Ethequiri'zyl breathed deep. She was feeling much calmer, though Im'rahi wasn't.

"If you need anything to make you relax, I have plenty of things for that. As long as they aren't poisoned." Ethe made a disappointed face.

"Maybe a poison. Yes. I'm sure you can come up with something very hard to trace." Ethe's mind moved to darker considerations. "I think, perhaps, it could be easy to play her vanity. We could attack her here. My matron could call her to our House. We could immobilize her with poison and take her elsewhere. There are a lot of things we can do."

Im'rahi nodded at Ethe's words. The plan sounded easy enough, but catching the professor off guard would be a bit difficult.

"I think I'm good, I just need to get rid of these shattered nerves. The professor is quite uncanny in knowing what goes on around her. I think we need a second or third party to deal with her. I'd rather not get found out to having a part in her demise."
Im'rahi replied with a slight shudder.

"A poison would work. I have believe there is one that is not only tasteless but odorless as well..no one would ever be able to detect it. And the smallest amount will kill her without leaving any signs or trace of her ever being poisoned. Whatever we decide to do, we need to do it quickly and carefully."

"Don't worry. I think Uzatiyl could smell you out for a rat immediately. I don't even believe you. Nerves." Ethe shrugged coldly. The girl was sounding too weak or stressed to push much further in this. Uzatiyl would be highly on guard. "Before you do anything else, I would appreciate a survey of my lab as well. I hope not, but I supposed I could have carried over a tainted object from my office?"

"I think you examined most of the likely things, but I spend so much time in my lab I'd like to know." The professor waved her hand towards the door. "The lab is through here. Stick to anything on the counter tops please."

While she made her way around the lab to see if there was anything she had brought over from her office, Ethe started to share out loud a few ideas about how to proceed. The lab was a long and narrow room, with a curious square opening in the middle of the floor. It was dark and bristling with magic, leading to a second level. She trusted the healer would know well enough to stay away.

"I don't know if is Uzatiyl. But I can find out. I could lay low, stay in my lab. Whoever it is, they'll be wanting to know if they've succeeded. All you would have to do is keep an ear open to catch Uzatiyl and her minions for any reaction. It'll give me time to get ready."

The moment the words had left her mouth, Im'rahi regretted them. One should never give away weaknesses..especially to someone like Ethe. She should have learned by now to keep her squeamish side to herself and not let on to the fact that intrigue and plotting the death of another drow wasn't exactly her cup of tea. If she wanted to come out of this mission without getting offed herself, she would have to steal her emotions and be more aloof than she had been up til now.

"That would probably be a good idea." Im'rahi replied to Ethe's request and followed the other as down the long narrow room towards where she assumed the office was.

Im'rahi came to an abrupt halt when she felt the dark magic bristling up ahead. "I don't believe that it would be smart for me to go much further..the magic in that area would more than likely crush me if i were to go further." Im'rahi replied her face going unreadable and still.

She was scared out of her wits, she had never encountered magic of this type before and had never thought she would ever come this close to it. A rather dark and foreboding feeling came over her and she backed away, her features twisting in unmitigated horror. She was now pressed up against one of the bookshelves in the lab and staring into the darkness ahead of her, she wasn't even half listening to Ethe's words, until something suddenly pulled her out of her horror. She turned two large red eyes at Ethe and breathe din slowly.

"yes..laying low..tis a good idea. I should go..before someone misses me."
PostPosted: Wed May 05, 2010 3:26 pm

"It's not..." Ethe squinted at the girl, shaking her head in amazement as she backed away against the bookshelf. "I'm not asking you to jump in. I damn well know what it is and isn't going to.. Never mind. I'll take my chances. Don't worry about checking anything else."

Ethe was puzzled. The healer's reaction was a little too extreme. As if she knew something bad would happen. How could she have? It must have been fear, Ethe reasoned, a weak one like her wouldn't be granted a vision. Yet that look of horror on her face had been truly unsettling to the mage. It was true that the sort of things which a mage like Ethe dealt with could be very dangerous and difficult to comprehend. It hadn't been too wise in the first place to invite the healer in. Ethe's own worries for safety had taken the upper hand and she had to admit it had been foolish. The enchantress knew how to observe and look for warning signs within such volatile things, but a healer most likely would be unawares. Ethe cut her blue eyes backwards over her shoulder at the brimming darkness.

She stepped closer to the healer, gesturing her back to the doorway, "What happened?"

Ethe could not leave well enough alone.

Im'rahi reached up and ran her hands down her face and let out a long exhale of air from her lungs. Then, still shuddering slightly from what she had felt she turned her tremulous eyes on Ethe.

"There's something wrong, I fear you will come to great harm if you go in there. It's like a beast, bristling and getting ready to spring on the first soul that enters. I realize I am not a strong individual and that I appear a weakling in your eyes, I beg you do not hold it against me when I say it's a trap. If you wish tot test my warning there are plenty of servants you can use to test it on."
Im'rahi explained her voice growing stronger and steadier with each word.

"I just don't know why I am the one that feels it, and you are not. Perhaps..your nemesis made it so you wouldn't feel or see any difference."

Ethe balled her fist up, aching to hit the offending healer. It wasn't her fault, no, but Ethe could not stomach the idea that someone had found their way into her lab and even altered something so personal to her.

"No! No one could have." She wanted that to be true. But if Ethe were capable of creating this, then it would be possible for someone else to create a trap within it. The healer might be overreacting. Or she could be right.

Ethe walked around the void, watching it closely. She reached out with her magic and felt its tug and pull. She reached, eyes closed and body still, letting the tendrils of her magic presence slip deeper in. She felt something different. A burning. Ethe's heart beat faster. The stringent pain made her desire to run and pull back her investigation of the dark magic holding together the second level, but she couldn't. She felt compelled to stay. Her body threatened to follow after.

It took a strong stubborn willpower like Ethe's to say no. She signed runes, breaking her magic free from the darkness with a sizzling pop that radiated in blue around the mage's hands.

"Okay. Bring me a servant."

Im'rahi got the unmistakable sense that the sorceress was angry and wanted to hit someone. She drew back slightly but not quickly..knowing that that could be used as an excuse for the sorceress to lash out at her. She should know, her teachers had used it often enough.

Im'rahi stayed silent, knowing it was better not to argue with someone so powerful. She held herself stiffly as the enchantress worked her magic to check the second part of her rooms. She winced when she felt the power throb and pulsate with tension.

She was frightened that the magic's pull would attach itself to Ethe and pull her into the trap. She was relieved when the other female was able to pull away from the dark magic and turn back to glance at her.

"I'll be right back," Im'rahi murmured softly and slipped out the way she had come without a glance backwards.

She was thankful that the enchantress hadn't chosen to use her to test out the magic's strength. She knew that her softness and reluctance would have been enough of an excuse for the powerful lady to get rid of her. Im'rahi couldn't help but shudder at the thought. She just hoped she would survive long enough to leave this school and get back to her love Charune.

"My mistress is in need of some service,"
She told the first male slave she found and led him back to the enchantress' quarters, a bit sad that the fellow was going to have to die but not all that concerned. he was after all..just a male.

Once he had followed her inside, Im'rahi drew back behind him and closed the door, standing in front of it so he couldn't try and escape his fate.

"Will he do Mistress Ethe?"
She asked, hoping he wouldn't notice her guarding the door.

Ethe stormed around her lab, waiting for Im'rahi to return with the servant. How could she have let this happen? She couldn't say it. She wouldn't say it..

Larsoir is not right! Alright. Maybe she is. Just a little bit. You could say, maybe, that I'm reckless. I could spend a little more time aware of my surroundings. Okay, so she was right.

She gave a cold grin. Im'rahi pulled the male inside and closed the door. Ethe snapped her hand back, the magical locks on the door pulling shut with a sizzling sound. "You can cower in the corner if you like now, Im'rahi, this likely won't be pretty."

Ethe ignored the male's horror and pleading. She heard it, yes, but it was a comfortable drone in her ears. It was softly pleasing; that look on his face fed her and itched her building need to hurt someone.

She clarified her snide comment for the healer, "I really wasn't joking. I would try to get behind some cover… Quickly!"

The mage snatched a hold of the cowering male. It was not hard at all to take control of him as the brimming power in the center of the room had frozen him in fear much like it had done to Im'rahi. She must be a much scarier person than she thought. A dimensional break had never seemed strange to her.

Ethe hesitated. She had an idea. She unceremoniously grabbed the back of the male's collar with her other hand and turned him towards the stone countertop. She swiftly bashed his face against it. While the blood dripped freely, she spun him over the black void and let the crimson drops fall in.

Oh. There definitely was something else in there.

The reaction was obvious. A crackling snap of force echoed deep within. She pushed the frozen prey in. It didn't appear his weak mind would ever have survived its current exposure from the dark magics anyway. Ethe had dropped to her knees after she shoved the nameless male, throwing up a barrier of protection in front of herself with runes glowing a brilliant blue around her.

Im'rahi cringed slightly when the door's locks closed behind her. She couldn't help but frown slightly at the other's words. Cringe? Cringe?!
Damn..maybe she was too soft and naive. Her acting so weak was going to be her downfall if she didn't take more care how she acted around other females. She needed to start getting a backbone.

Im'rahi blinked at Ethe's clarification and then ducked down behind the desk and wrapped her arms around her legs, shivering slightly at the incessant thrumming of darkness in the other room.

She held back a cry when Ethe smashed the male servant's head against the stone countertop. She blinked back the tears that threatened to spill from her eyes when there came a loud snap from within the darkness. A thrill of fear built up from the bottom of her spine and into her head, until it was too much. She pulled herself under the desk and wrapped her arms around the back of her head and began to chant in a soft tone.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 11, 2010 4:49 pm

Ethe certainly hoped the healer was well protected, wherever she was hiding. The sounds and -she hated to admit it- smells that were emanating from the void were giving her an all too clear idea of what was lurking.

The sound was changing from a crackling snap to a pulsing throb that made the mage grip her head. She yelled, trying to relieve the pressure, and focused every energy she could on holding the protective runes around her. They held long enough. When Ethe was confident that the oozing force was no longer pressing upwards out of its trap, she began to relax. The runes still danced very faintly around her as she stood up and eased back further from the opening in the floor.

Who the hell thought this was a good idea anyways? A ******** connection built into what really could be another dimension? Oh right. She had.

Ethe grimaced at the stench. It was a lingering aftertaste really. Burning and foul odors from some decades and decades of slow rot. Her stomach was steel. There was one thing she had on her side right now. One thing that kept her from giving in. Stubborn ego. She could handle this. She had seen worse. Whatever it was, with each horrible thing Ethe inevitably got herself into she oh so too confidently assumed it was nothing. Nothing too hard for her.

This time, only a slight tremor of worry washed over the mage before she started to think about taking control of the situation. So it acted like a demon, smelled like a demon, but Ethe was fairly certain it wasn't a demon.

"Are you alive, healer?"

Im'rahi rocked back and forth in the fetal position, her voice chanting in a low tone attempting not to throw up from the smells emanating from the black void. When the sounds changed, her eyes flew open and she started in alarm. The pulsing throb almost sounded like a code, a code that she had learned from her beloved Charune when she had been a small child.

She knew then that whatever the creature was that was trapped in the void wasn't a demon, but she wasn't sure how she knew. She had never been very strong in magics, though she was rather sensitive to them. She had always been able to feel and hear things that others didn't. After having been told she was imagining things as a child, she had simply kept these things to herself, since no one believed her.

The smells grew worse, and she felt bile build up in the back of her mouth. She gulped it down, knowing to defile the laboratory would only create worse problems for her. Her body was suddenly racked with chills and spasms up and down the muscles of her arms and legs.

When the sorceress called to her, she came out of her fetal position, albeit reluctantly and crawled out of her hiding spot and looked around for her.

She was surprised when a calm feeling came over her, and she replied. "I am here still sorceress. What is your plan to deal with this anomaly?"
