Kusari Korosu Squad Seven Drunkard Kusari entered the Captain's office and placed the redeemer at his feet before standing at attention. "Sir, my name is Kusari Korosu. I am the fourth seat of squad seven and I recently returned from the intelligence gathering mission to the human real. Two of my squad mates and I set up in Karakura Town Park as ordered along with two substitutes and a third person whom I believe was a substitute as well. Upon arrival we were met with a group of knights who began some kind of ritual focused around a female knight. Their armor began to glow green and the unknown shinigami attacked. The knights retaliated, and as I went in to take out a few of the knights myself I was followed by my divisions third seat. As I defeated my opponents I claimed one of their weapons, which can be seen at my feet, and I realized that my squad mates had retreated. The substitutes watched my body as I passed out and upon awaking I saw a giant crystal obelisk. This is why I've come to you captain, the obelisk is now cloaked in some kind of barrier, which seems to be one of our enemies primary tactics. I myself am unfamiliar with this barrier and would like to request that a member of squad five whom you trust, or even yourself sir, go inspect this barrier so that we may determine what the crystals purpose is. I would also like to ask as a favor if this weapon could be taken to twelvth squad. As much as I would like to give it to my captain he seems to be out at the moment and I thought this to be a matter of importance, but currently I have left the substitutes to guard the obelisk due to having no other options and would like very much to return to it and relieve them of theirs duties and put my mind at ease." Kusari waited patiently for the captains response, gently wavering back and forth as was customary to ensure that the knees did not lock up, but was perfectly unnoticeable.

Yamoto was perplexed at the statement that Kusari presented him. "A barrier hmmm." Barrier kido was tricky business, but luckly Yamoto knew how to use it. "Sounds fun, I'll go check it out." Yamoto smiled, he hadn't been on earth for a while and this event sounded perplexing. "You go drop off that weapon at squad 12, and I'll head to earth." Yamoto got up from his desk and went to his door. This should be fun.

Victoria entered 5th Squads area and marched her way up to the headquarters building. She has had a long couple of days and is just looking forward to reporting in and getting some much needed rest.
Dropping her bag outside the door, Victoria walks into the build and heads to the captains office. Taking a second to compose herself she closes her eyes and breaths deep. After a few seconds she reaches out and knocks on the door .....

Yamoto was at his desk half asleep. "Ehhh why all the paperwork." The captain hadn't done a single oune of paper work at all since a few weeks ago, so there was a pile up in the back corner of the room. Yamoto looked at the paper with a hit of evil in his eyes. "I could burn it." The captain began to laugh as he stuck out his right hand towards the incompleted files. "Hado 31....." Just then he heard someone knocking on his door. Yamoto frowned at the stack of paper and whispered. "It's your lucky day." Yamoto turnerd back around and faced the door. "You may come in."

Victoria opened the door and stepped into the room. Closing the door behind her, she took a couple more steps and stopped bowing. "Yamoto-San, my name is Victoria Coven and I am here to report for duty sir. I know you were not expecting me and I do apologize sir but, I give you my word that I will be one of your hardest working squad members. Please forgive me for any extra work I may have caused you." with that said, Victoria held her hand forward and in it was a folder with her training records from the academy. Yet more paperwork for the Captain.
"Sir, what are your orders for me?" those words were hard for her to say because Victoria was totally against fighting and her records from the academy are going to show that. Victoria's score were off the charts when it came to healing and kidou's but, her scores were very low for swordsmanship and martial arts. In fact, she almost didn't pass the academy because of them. Yamoto-San was soon going to realize that he had his hands full with this one.

Yamoto took the paperwork from the girl. Unlike the paperwork behind him the captain did like reading about his squad and their talents. Yamoto was impressed by most of the file until he saw that this shinigami had very little to no physical combat skills. "Your kido skills are impressive, but the instructors at the academy say you swordmanship is lacking. In most situations it is the other way around." Yamoto studied the girl for a moment, and then sighed a little. "Tell me what is it that you like about kido?"

Victoria's face broke into a huge smile by the question from her new Captain. "Well sir, anyone can pick up a sword and swing it, even an ape. But it's what happens when you make contact with the blade that bothers me. I'm ... I'm ... a conscientious objector you could say....or a pacifist. I just hate fighting or taking a life and I refuse to do it! Wip me, beat me, kill me .... I refuse to do it!! But, I believe everyone has a right to defend themselves thus kidou's. You see kidou's allows me to defend myself at a distance if need be. Being a master at kidou's also shows people that I have a brain. The average Shinigami knows what? maybe 2-3 kidous if they are lucky ... or should I say smart enough. I pride myself on my intelligance. Now I know alot about you Yamoto-San. You are a true fighter and a hero of sorts. So you are probley thinking to yourself what have I got myself into with this one. But I can assure you this, no one in 5th Squad will be better at kidou's than me .... well, with the exception of you of course."
Victoria's face turns beat red after her statement because of what she said. She didn't mean to say that Yamoto-San wasn't better than her ... or at least out loud, but her goal was to be better than him.
Looking down at her zanpakutou, Victoria grabs it and takes it off her belt saying, "I truely hate this thing and would gladly bring it back to the academy or leave it here with you if I could. I haven't taken it out or used it since my class training and I don't plan on it either. It's a dead weight to lug around for me." Victoria drops the zanpakutou onto Yamoto-San's desk and steps back looking down at her feet as if waiting for the punishment she knows is coming her way ....

Yamoto smiled at his new squad member. "Thats a bold statement, I hope to see you live up to it." Yamoto laughed as he looked at the zanpakuto now on his desk. "You know most like yourself see the zanpakuto as a weapon for the sole purpose of defeating your enemy thus they as you said swing their swords like apes, or in your case disregarded it in disgust. However the zanpakuto is more of a tool rather than a weapon. In some hands it is a tool of destruction and in others it is a tool of peace. Some of the best swordmans happen to be pacifest and only pick up a blade to defend themselves or defend others. In my opinion death by a sword would be much more civilized than death by kido."
Yamoto picked up the sword and walked over to Victoria. "Zanpakuto are a part of you, their spirit is apart of your soul. As much as you want to you can't truly disregard this katana." Yamoto turned around and walked back to his desk, as he sat down in his chair a long sigh escaped his lips. "The two basic things that takes to cast any kido are reiatsu control and patience. Intelligance falls in later when it comes to how you use a kido spell, but in reality any shinigami with decent reiatsu control and enough patience can learn any kido spell. Reiatsu control varies from person to person, but patience must be acquired and one of the best ways to acquire patience is disciplining yourself in the art of swordplay. Not swinging a sword around like an ogre, but making your body look more like your dancing than fighting. I'll leave it up to you, but I thnik one day that sword might save your life."

Victoria knew that Yamoto-San was telling her the truth. Captain's have a high standard of honor and could not tell a lie even if they wanted too. Victoria took baby steps toward Yamoto-San's desk. She truely hated the zanpakuto and didn't understand it at all. Why would one have to carry this thing when they could win a battle with their mind.
Reaching out, Victoria grabbed the zanpakuto off of the desk and said, "I understand Yamoto-San. You can force me to carry this thing but you can't force me to use it. If you are right and we are connected by our spirit's then it would be a book or something else, something that is in common with me. Not something that I'm totally against."
Victoria then says, "Reiatsu control and patience are the two traits that I live by. Did you know that I have all but mastered the basic kidou's while in the academy. I am the first to have been able to do that since .... you."
Securing her zanpakuto across her back, Victoria says "What are your orders for me master Yamoto?"

Yamoto sighed, "Get acquainted with everyone, I would start with the vice-captain, he or our squad 4th seat will be able to train you in some more basic kido that all squad 5 members should know."

Victoria could hear how his voice had changed when he spoke with her. His disapointment was nothing but right in her face. Taking a deep breath Victoria says, "Yes Master Yamoto. I will do as you say."
Victoria bows and heads out of the office closing the door behind herself.....

[A few hours after Victoria left...]
The new shipments of recruits had just arrived all of them placed within there respective squads immediately, however a strange request was made for Alex to be transfered from Second Devision to Fifth. It made sense to be apart of second devision because of her acrobatic abilities and the nature of her combat finesse, but to be moved to Fifth was knowledge well above her pay grade. Out of the group of individuals she stood out the most, pale skin, European facial features, and the lack of a Japanese accent when she spoke. It was obvious her soul had traveled a long distance before being purified.
That much she already knew, ”Looks like I was able to down a few souls before having my face split in half and sent here... kind-of-a cute bedtime story.”
As she strutted from the wagon where the soldiers sat as they where moved about she walked through the fifth squad main gate archway into the training grounds, glaring about curiously her hand rested casually on the hilt of her blade, a few members rushed passed her, one of then accidentally bumping her shoulder. Quickly her hand snapped out and grabbed his wrist, spinning him about his eyes met her and both glared at each other. ”Didn’t your mother ever tell you to watch where you walked?” she snapped at him as she pulled him inches from her face.
His face flushed with anger as he jerked his hand out of her grasp, the confidence of most graduates made them gauge there abilities above there actual score. With his new found confidence and acceptance into fifth squad he took a sharp breath and prepared to shoot off a spell at her to show her just who she messed with.
Just as soon as his hands set in motion she kicked off and knelt down with her shoulder to his knee, she hooked her arm around his leg and stood sending him head over heels and landing hard on his shoulder, quickly she spun turned and looked down to him, her blade drawn and stabbed into the ground just a hair away from his ear, ”Keep it up and I take your arm off at your shoulder.” Looking up at her he was shocked completely at what had just occurred. It was strange to see another Fifth Squad Member not using Kidou in retaliation and instead she used brute force, and... with such skill! Standing he scrambled to his feet and ran off, a few nearby soldiers simply shook there heads at her and kept walking.
Glaring at them she sheathed her blade and blurted out to them, ”What!? You want some of this too!?” A superior officer quickly shot her down, ”Stand down soldier and get to your squad.” Shaking her head she cursed to herself as she began to jog to the office building where she and a handful of other soldiers would report to the captain.
A few minutes went by and already the line had formed just outside the office, where each new arrival stood at attention waiting for there captain would greet them and assign there first objectives and inform them of there daily Squad Chores. Her stance was obviously more loose as she had her stance spread more relaxed. Instead of both hands hanging at her sides she held one hand to her sword. It was a habit she picked up from the streets of Soul Society, always have an ear, and eye, and weapon alert and ready for a fight.
”Someone always wants your money, or something you’ve got. Too bad they always turned out to be my b***h...”
Another squad member that was accepted a few months ago was assigned to inspect the new recruits, and immediately spotted Alex, walking over to her he glared her down, she did the same. Stepping up to her, her body quickly adjusted and stepped up to him, glaring nose to nose the man spoke, ”Don’t you have any honor?” everybody gasped watching, and everybody was tense.
Quickly she shot back in a low menacing tone, ”Yeah, and that’s why we’re here isn’t it?”
His eyes narrowed and his stance became more threatening as his hand fell to his sword, ”Stand down.” he growled.
Grinning she looked down to his sword then back up to him, ”You know how to use that?’ a wicked grin spread over her lips...

"Enough." A voice came from behind the shinigami who was about to attack Alex. Immediately the officer who was confronting the girl turned around to look his captain straight in the eyes. "Captain Yamoto she was out of line and disprespectfull." The captain stared him down for a moment then spoke. "So your first choice of action was to draw your sword and silence her, a very harsh punishment for a new recruit who just has a little attitude problem." The shinigami the captain was addressing was turning white because while being a new officer he knew the rules about threatening anyone with a sword in a non violence area were. "Captain, please it won't happen again." The shinigami in front of Yamoto fell to his knees begging for mercy from the captain. Yamoto smiled as he looked down upon his kneeling officer. "I know it won't happen again, but what kind of leader would I be if I allowed you to walk away from this violation unpunished in front of new squad members. Now would you hold out your right arm." The shinigami silently raised his dominant arm towards the captain, and a second later a cry of pain of sheer pain rang out through the squad. The shinigami was now lying on the ground clutching his arm which was now broken. Some of the new recruits were astonished because to them it appeared that the arm had broken by itself because the captain had said nothing nor made any gesture.
Yamoto called over to a nearby squad member. "Take him to squad 4 and tell them only to reset the arm, but nothing more than that." The captain sighed as turned back to address the new recruits. "I congratulate you all for becoming full fledged shinigami, but more importantly for showing aptitude in the art of kido, in some form or another." Yamoto eyes glanced over Alex as he continued on with his speech. "Now if you all please go to the barracks you will be assigned you living spaces. Yamoto watched as most of the shinigami left, but his attention was drawn back to shinigami in front of him. So they really did honor my request of having her transferred to this squad, interesting.
Yamoto smiled at the girl before him seeing as she was not moving she obviously had question and most likely an opinion. Yamoto sighed because as a captain he was given almost every file of new graduates for the academy, most new shinigami were allocated to squad that fit there test results. The one who were good at kido were assigned to squad 4, or 5 these shinigami were also extremely good at reiatsu control. However the was one shinigami who had caught Yamoto's eye. It was the girl standing before him know, her file showed that she was well balanced in everything except for kido, but what surprised Yamoto was that her reiatsu control was very good if not top of the class. Thus Yamoto decided to make Alex his little experiment. For most of his squad believed that kido was the only way to battle, but Yamoto took interest into making a perfect warrior one who could encompass all the shinigami battle teaching, as he himself was close to doing.
"You must be surprised on why you were assigned here instead of squad 2. In all reality you would have made a fantastic assassin. You file showed that you were exceptional when in came to agility and stealth, and also hakudo and swordplay as well, but you were almost failing when it came to kido, so why in the world would you be assigned to the squad that excels in the one things you aren't good at?" Yamoto laughed as he looked directly at Alex. "Maybe it is because that I who requested your transfer just like a challenge, or maybe it was the fact that if you learned how to use kido you could be one of the most deadly shinigami ever."
