The brothers had been somewhat at a loss for what to do in the midst of all the sudden action. They had started toward Sakura, but Hinata reached their hostess first and so they decided to hang back. Nevermind the fact that they still weren't entirely comfortable in the company of most of the people in the training ground that moment. Still too many strangers, too many they knew nothing about.
The sudden dash of the silver-eyed girl was a surprise as the two hadn't been aware of any sort of enemy lurking about. However, she was back soon enough and their concern quickly switched from where she'd gone or how Sakura was doing, to why the ground was shaking...yet again.
It was like a scene from a nightmare, the gate rising unbidden. The Elric brothers paled at the sight, standing frozen just yards away from the forbidding structure. Why?
Why? They hadn't summoned it. Who would be trying to follow them through? They were supposed to be home! Had the surviving Homonculi become that determined? Had the Thule society resurfaced? So many thought and fears raced through their minds, one standing out above all else in Ed's. No matter what, the Gate would not claim either of them again. He would not--
could not--go through that again.
"No..." Ed breathed out, the word so soft it barely classified as a whisper. The idea of a rescue party or anyone else from their world never crossed his mind.
