the art of conversation was lost many years ago when the internet took over our lives and everyone was suddenly so absorbed in their ims and cell phones and myspace etc etc... i worry about kids these days cuz they wont learn how to have a real, authentic conversation with another person in REAL LIFE!! am i crazy?

I actually, agree with what your saying. One thing about kids being on the net to much; is that it's effecting their writting skills in school. It's been proven that some kids actually use the internet slang in their homework. ^^; I also swear, alot of the younger generation with the internet; are really anti-social.

I don't usually converse much seeing as I can never really find anyone to talk to. Maybe we should start a thread somewhere to post in. I work... a lot and so I don't get on much but I do get bored on the weekeneds and wouldn't mind actually having a decent place to post.

see thats what ive found the beauty of here there are people who want to have a conversation!! i so miss that! We could start another topic but all topics are technically a beginning to a conversation like here! It just depends whether people will reply back or not or if it something of interest them! biggrin

I feel your pain. I'm usually trying to find someone to just chat about nothing in particualer, and not in the sense of "omg" "kawaii! <3" or the 3 posts back to back of "lol", but actual topics of interest. I'm glad to find other adults to chat with and have actual replies xd

You know what the ruin of conversation in my day was, the TV, I think that is the worst thing ever invented. People will watch anything today no matter how dumb it is, and most parents use it to babysit their children so they never just sit and talk to them. I feel so sorry for parents today, both have to work to make a living and there is never any time just to sit and chat with the family. I made it a point of always having dinner with my children, we all sat around the dinner table and just talked, everyone got to discuss how their day went, that's what's missing today, you need to get that back, dinner with the family, even when they're in their teens or beyond. Boy am I getting winded on here today, sorry.

I will admit my family is addicted to the TV (myself included sweatdrop ) but I always make it a point to sit down with mum and dad at some point and just talk. Same with my brother when I can. but he has a 2 year old so that's not as easy as it sounds

Same with my brother when I can. but he has a 2 year old so that's not as easy as it sounds i guess what you guys say is true, but it also depends on the type of person(from my point of view). Ex: i can sit down and watch tv with my mom and dad, bro and sis...but i can interrupt when i want to talk about something (sometimes related to what i see) with them...sometimes the conversation thrives into a discussion about the topic and it becomes more and more intelectual. We can laugh about it, play around and all, but i fear my father is too lost to talk with us about our "actual" world... we've basically lost conversation between ourselves because of what we do. My dad works till late and is old fashioned thinking and it's really hard for him to understand my elder sis and me...my sis sometimes doesn't come home cuz she's doing a big homework or cuz she's partying, and my mom goes singing somewhere, goes teaching how to or does costure with my aunt at my aunts house. My lil bro spends more time on the comp. than seeing tv or being outside and is hardly sociable due to that... i'm a type of writer, poetic, gazing, romantic, pleased by natures simplicities guy and i don't really fit in my own home...and i've also urged about finding someone to talk to....
Fairy~Nuff, what type of conversation? anything?...ummmsometimes i find it harder to talk rather than listen...=P

Oh thank the Pixie-godess! It's not just me! xd
The TV's a bit of a neccessity in my house at the moment, 2 toddlers and NO summer. *curses the Great Welsh Weather* But like Miss Abigal said, dinner time is Table time! We always sit and talk at dinnertime and I love it. Now if only I could get my little boy to actually eat something too it'd be perfect!
I think half the probelm on Gaia is kids who just read the OP and post their opinion then flit off to the next one. I'd say 95% of the people who I've had a proper chat to on here have been over 21. The other 5% are people who think if they give me enough of a sob story for long enough I'll donate them something. talk2hand
As for a thread where you can just hang out and chat Julien_Isfange and Wendy Essex, you could always come back here! wink
And Wendy, are you actually from Essex? Aaaaaah, how I don't miss living there! Despite the weather being marginally less wet than Wales!

Outcast-ghosT I love to chat about anything! Comes of spending all day with 2 toddlers and no grownups! xd
I know what you mean about listening though, with my friends I'm chief in charge of making tea when someone needs to rant! I love it though, well, not that my mates are having a grim one obviously, but them feeling it's ok to come and have a good old GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH at me and then feel better!

May I ask why you have nothing better to do or is it just one of those days?
Personally I'm attempting to link up a printer to my decrepid old laptop and failing miserably. Mainly becuase I have Gaia distracting me again! xd

I know the feeling well.
It's the same with me when the kids are sleeping (on the rare occasion I can get them both to sleep at the same time) or amusing themselves.
I've found there's really only so much housework one person can do before it starts to get obsessive! I'm quite looking forward to going back to work once the little munchkins are safely off to school! *only 4 years and counting!*
Are you just between movies at the moment? wink
