Ah, I suppose you're not secretly Brian then! XD

I would so totally make us awesome coffee if you worked where I do or vice versa though.

no, I'm not secretly Brian. I'm not even unsecretly Brian. In fact, my name isn't Brian at all. biggrin

Disregard that post.. I got a look which works for now.

As for writing.. I've taken to finding names for unwritten chapters biggrin which is about as far as my outline of the story goes. Yes yes, I need to write.. more than just randomly spamming forums with half hearted thoughts.

I also need to come up with a list of terms for the 'game' why oh why did I get stuck with that one? I'm not a fantasy writer who can simply conjure names out of nowhere.

Hurray for name databases! And heart sunglasses XD.

Most fantasy writers don't actually conjure names out of nowhere. It's sort of a strange process of scrawling down phonetic units and arranging them until they turn into a word. Plus, many have some semblance of linguistic units that they can assemble at will. Every word Tolkein invented meant something and is decipherable on the levels upon which they relate to one another. Many lesser writers don't do up dictionaries to publish, but sometimes you can figure them out. (Carol Berg has two languages in her books, and once can instantly identify which character is from what faction based on their vocabulary.)

Cyberpunk, not fantasy.. just referring to fantasy cause fantasy writers are really, really good at coming up with names.

And yay for partners who look at the latest bit of writing, then turn around and say: "That doesn't really suit the theme too well" Implications of the idea being entirely too cliche also were made at that time.

The good thing that came from it was that I found a way to manage the situation and perhaps make it sound better than my own idea.

More or less what I was getting at. I was just referencing fantasists in general since sci-fi/fantasy writers are most likely to not be able to work with an earthly pool of names.

Cliches are for LOLZ, not plot points. So, less of them? Always good.

lol, I love my cliches... ok, I love the character who thinks in cliches, it adds a sense of strange humour to my writing.

I can pull names out of nowhere, which is really handy xD
I guess in any book cliches are found so it really doesn't matter.

Life got busy. I wrote half a page half asleep at some odd hour of the morning, then proceeded to close the laptop down the following morning without saving my work sad I felt very smart. (needs to be noted that I was using abiword and abiword doesn't auto save.

I know how you feel. When I created my first goal when I started the original post your progress thread I wanted 80k-100k words by April, and I was almost there, but THE ENTIRE THING GOT DELETED.

...I didn't write for a while after that. crying

Oh god... I'd seriously consider killing myself if that happened to me.. and then possibly never ever writing again.

On the more positive side of things.. I'm actually getting my act together and starting to write again. Somewhere in the back of my mind, the fact that my partner thinks I have enough talent to possibly get published is encouraging. Note though that it has never been my intentions to publish anything.

No, don't kill yourself!

I just felt really sick to my stomach every time I opened a word document, thats all. crying

Anyway. It's great that your parter thinks you can get published! You might as well if you're spending so much time on it, and just imagine how you'd feel the first time you saw your story, all bound together professional-like with a cool eye-catching cover in the book store under the New Fiction section...

Awesome, that's how you'd feel.
