Rayna Farrell - as Wednesday AddamsThe spider hissed in surprise as the point of the stake pierced through its chitin shell. As the stake was pulled free the spider jerked back. Something began to slowly leak from the hole and all eight legs scuttled backwards, carrying the spider away from the weapon. It lashed out in an attempt to knock the weapon from the one wielding it without success. The arachnid tracked the motion of the group before deciding that armed prey was too risky to go after. It could always find another unarmed individual to pounce on. It sprayed its frothy spit out as a diversion before scaling the nearest hedge. It took mere seconds for the spider to disappear leaving its wounded prey behind. ~-~ Rayna gave a soft groan of protest when both of her rescuers lifted her by her shoulders. If only that damn spider hadn't sliced through her most recent injury. The girl who was on that side at least wasn't putting too much pressure underneath her arm. She closed her eyes against the newest visual hallucination and tamped down on the feeling that she needed to be sick. Although with everything as it was she was probably going to lose that battle sooner or later ... probably sooner if the pain didn't cause her to black out first. Weakly she tugged gently on the girl's arm in order to get her attention before she croaked out her reply, " 'm Rayna.."With that being said Rayna had heard and personally agreed with what Michiko had spoken earlier about not giving up. Although at the present time it felt like her mind and body were at war with each other. Pulling enough semblance of mind together the teen attempted to straighten her legs in order to walk and found herself wobbling. Maybe it was a good thing that her rescuers had come along when they did. The next thing was directed to both Toby and Michiko, "thanks for rescue."Still conscious but barely holding on, bleeding from two serious-looking wounds ... and fighting the effects of venom - definitely did not present a pretty picture.

Toby Yates* (Dressed like Elf Kirito) (has +1 Metal Stake) The spider going for his stake was a little unnerving, but Toby managed to dodge it...though he didn't dodge the spray of distracting spit so well, though it really only managed to create a few more spots of really annoying discomfort, and a few holes in his already pretty messed up outfit. With the thing retreating, he wedged his 'weapon' into one of his costume straps so he could use both hands to help the girl--Rayna. "You're welcome, Rayna," he said, carefully adjusting how he was holding on to her. "I'm Toby...now," he looked down at Rayna's wounds, then carefully took off his little (ruined) coat, leaving him in just a black long sleeved shirt. He then somewhat haphazardly wrapped it around her to press over the wounds. "Hope that helps...now let's get out of here!"

A soft prickle of heat warmed his freckle dappled cheeks when the coat was provided to him. Murmuring a quiet thank you, he gently clutched the edges of the jacket together with a single hand. He was still trying to get used to niceness. It was... so new.
The spiders were ruthless though, and he found himself battling one up close and personal. His boots were probably his best bet... Not wanting to hurt it, if possible, little Vi tried to shove the toe of his boot under the thing, and attempt to shove it off, and maybe attempt to topple it over. His attention was more focused though on seeing if the two other youths he'd been traveling with were ok.

Katrina HalloranPencil skirts were hardly the best thing to fight in, and yet she knew that there were Negaverse officers who wore one every time they powered up. She couldn't imagine how they managed much in the way of combat, but for any that did she found a new measure of respect. Her costume for the evening hadn't been meant for activities such as this-- hiking up, certainly, but not kicking a**. Once she'd finished fending off the eight legged freak that had come for Kian she set her heels down, grunting in frustration as yanked at the fabric on either side of the slit in her skirt. It took a pull or two before she heard the seam rip, drawing the slit up higher to allot for further movement. "New shoes. New skirt. I want to lodge a ******** complaint." Katrina scooped up her heels again, ready herself for the next wave as she caught sight of movement just past Kian. "Not enough appendages to be another spider unless they're on top of each other," she muttered beneath her breath as she squinted to see better in the darkness before loudly interrupting the other two. "Oi! Archer, Lauri-- Over here! Better to take on these ******** things in packs." The additional emphasis on the last word was done with a wicked grin, green eyes bright and gleaming. "Don't leave us over here to play with our new friends all on our own."

When Kian heard the sound of ripping fabric he smirked, shaking his head as he watched Katrina tear her skirt so she could move easier. "You know, darling, that isn't exactly how I intended to hear that noise tonight." He set a hand on her hip to steady her while she got her balance again before looking over where her attention had gone. There were two other men over in the darkness, ones he assumed she knew given that she called out their names. The way she spoke as well ... she had mentioned a 'pack' before. "This would be much easier if we had proper weaponry to deal with these things."

Cordelia Carden "It doesn't feel like it's going to be fine." Her own words were softly spoken that the realization that she might have been talking about something other than just the hedge maze and the spiders hit her harder than she would have liked. Everything had been flipped sideways for so long that she wasn't sure it was ever going to be right again. She'd been going through the motions for months and... and.... Breathe. Her chest tightened, fingers clenching into fists as she closed her eyes, forcing herself to draw in a deep breath. She wasn't going to do it. She wasn't going to cry. It wasn't the time to give up or admit that spending time as Cordelia was slowly starting to make her feel far more defeated than it felt to be Sailor Corvus, especially in situations such as the one they were currently in. "I don't know if I can do this, Fritz. What if we aren't fine?" What if we're broken?

Myles Fischer
Myles was starting to believe in his bad luck again; no matter how hard he’d tried to be safe, to avoid trouble, it still found him. He was making his way through the maze, just like everyone else, when a spider fell to the Earth before him. Myles recoiled immediately, more alarmed by the furry bristles on the spider’s leg than he was of the spider. He wasn’t a violent person by nature, so when the spider attacked him, he hadn’t been expecting it. It tried to skewer him with its long legs—and nearly did. Instead, the brute force wound up sending Myles sprawling in the other direction.
The spider was undeterred and spit a stream of frothing white acid at him. This, Myles was not so fortunate with; it hit him in the leg and began to immediately melt his clothes and flesh.
He let out a startled scream and tried to brush the acid away. While it began to burn at everything it came in contact with, it was enough to stop it from further burning him.
The spider seemed content—only, suddenly someone from behind it began wailing at it and telling Myles to run. Far be it from him to argue, especially when they’d already had the spider collapsing, dying.
Jeremy probably wouldn’t be pleased at this turn of events, but there wasn’t any helping it; whether he wanted it or not, Myles seemed to follow trouble like a moth to the flame.

Malcolm Everly
Malcolm had enough for tonight. Enough pictures, enough interviews, enough spiders. He was ready to be out of here and be home, and he knew he couldn’t stick around if it meant another trip to the hospital. He wanted to help, but despite his best efforts to seem normal, stressful situations still sent him tipping over the edge. He remembered weeks in the hospital, and months of friends and family worrying. He remembered the pain and humiliation of the beating his brother had given him and—even if Zac had done what he could to make amends—it hadn’t been a quick healing process.
But Malcolm couldn’t do it again, not now.
When a spider dropped down in front of him, he tensed and frantically responded by kicking it in the face. While it was distracted, he took the opportunity to just bolt. His mind was friend and he was next to useless; all he could focus on was not winding up in the hospital.
In the back of his mind, he just hoped everyone else was okay, too.

Virell deVilliers – (In Possession of a Metal Spike)
While Virell didn’t recognize her face, he recognized her voice; he realized it was Rhona that had rushed to aid Lavender when she had been attacked. He hadn’t been fast enough, himself; he had narrowly avoided a spider that had swung a leg at him and missed rushing to Lavender’s aid.
Still, even with everything that was going on, he caught Rhona’s look towards him. Instinctively, his eyes flashed when she met him with some hostility. He scoffed and flipped his hair effortlessly. He was used to catty women and couldn’t help but retort with, “Well, you can’t blame me. It was dark and you had a sharp weapon. It would have been the perfect opportunity and no one would have been the wiser. You two can have your talk, but we have to move. This isn’t a good time to have any sort of conversation, so let’s take it, to-go.”
He didn’t wait for a response; with the spiders still out there, he figured it was best to act now and ask forgiveness later. He still held the metal spike but was careful to keep any dangerous ends out of the way and scooped her up into his arms. “If you know a way out, you can lead the way,” he told Rhona; Lavender was light enough to carry but he was already moving, trying to avoid another spider that scurried too close to comfort.

Miles Fury - as Nick Fury Spider still escaped, covered in scrapes, Miles was pleased to notice one big thing: he still had his lighter. Which meant, when the next walking abomination put one of it's crappy, cobweb enshrouded limbs near him, he had absolutely no qualms lighting that b***h up. "Cleansing by fire is the only way to fix this." Yep. And he would have said it chewing on a cigar if he'd had one instead of a spliff, but a lighted spliff would have to ********. Spiders.

The spiders seemed relentless, crawling throughout the maze as they tried to seek out any sort of prey. Only, it seemed like they had severely misjudged how easy it was going to be to catch anyone. Once the spiders were divided, it was too late. They were too large to fit comfortably in the maze, and no matter how large or scary they were, they were only spiders in the end. Their bodies had little in the way of defense, and it was no harder to snap their legs than it was to snap a branch. They could be blinded, and they seemed to recoil when attacked. Their carcasses were strewn across the maze in a matter of minutes. Some of the spiders began to retreat when they realized how outnumbered they were, but others seemed to grow more hostile and attacked with more ferocity. Police sirens wailed in the distance; someone had been fortunate enough to get a call through. But, that wasn’t all. Another low hissing began to erupt from the ground and, suddenly, the sprinkles turned on. Cold water began to spray in all directions. It wasn’t clear if it was the loud sirens, the flashing lights, or the sprinkles, but suddenly the spiders began to disappear. One second they were there, and the next they were gone. And, not just the live ones, the dead ones, too; what spiders were still alive and functioning grabbed the lifeless bodies of the slain spiders and dragged them into whatever corner they’d crawled from. On one hand, the spiders were gone—on the other hand, there was no telling where they’d gone to. You may be safe for the moment, but you might not sleep so well at night knowing that those things are still out there. Quote: You have survived the night! Destiny City Police Officers have arrived to secure the scene and escort the injured to the hospital. Citizens are being asked to provide a report of the incident, but you are not obligated to and can leave at your own discretion. This is the last mule post and there are no more prompts, but you are free to continue to RP or make your exits! Anyone who participated can claim one Henshin Pen Growth Item provided they wrote at least 500 words! You can only claim one item regardless of how many characters you participated with. Remember to post your claim in the Growth Item thread! Everyone is eligible to earn the growth item, even if you were playing a disposable character! Please also remember, this roleplay will only count as a regular if you were playing for growth requirements (as, civilians cannot earn battle requirements!). If you are entering the raffle, you can claim a raffle ticket provided you have written 500 words throughout the course of this ORP! A few new prompts (some of which are related to the events of this ORP) have been added to the prompt list, so make sure to check them out!

Kathryn McAdams - not dressed up ((metal stake + 1 to roll))
As Kathryn shook off the pain in her arm and turned another corner she came face to face with a destroyed portion of the maze. What had caused it the young woman wasn't sure but wasn't going to look over a possible good thing when she saw it. A low hissing filled the air and Kathryn looked around wildly for the source, thinking it was another spider before sprinkler heads erupted from the grounds and started the daily process of watering the various flora on the premises. Breathing just a little bit harder than intended Kathryn caught sight of a familiar red & blue strobe pattern of lights as the first sounds of sirens reached her ears.
Why did the cops never show up to prevent these sort of things from happening?
Shaking her head and suddenly glad for not dressing up Kathryn realized that since cops were on the scene that it would look better if she weren't approaching the line of police cars holding a metal stake. People with potential weapons weren't always given a warm welcome. Throwing the stake to the ground the woman gave a frustrated sigh before muttering under her breath, "late once again."
Passing by the emergency vehicles that were lining up Kathryn made a detour in order to get her arm checked out. Once displaying her wound to an ambulance attendant Kathryn was seated inside and within moments was being tended to. At least the people assigned to ambulatory care were proficient in their jobs.

Shikora MjoliDid brandishing her shoe work? Suddenly, the spider winced back, as if retreating; Shikora let her arm fall in response, still holding onto the shoe as she watched it step back once, then twice, then scurry away with a loud hiss. At that moment, she turned her attention to the spider in front of Steele and chucked her shoe in that spider's direction, whacking it on what she figured was its head. It didn't seem particularly effective, shoe falling uselessly to the ground, but soon every spider started retreating, too, perhaps scared off by the sprinklers that suddenly started going. That was when she heard the sirens. Oh. Red still blossoming from her arm, Shikora turned her attention over to Steele and asked, "Are you alright?" somehow still more concerned about others than the rather angry opening in her arm. It hurt, probably, but her primary concern was always everyone else. It was hard to say if she was even fully processing her own injury. "I think the spiders are gone, for now."

Evren
At the sound of the sprinklers activated and the spiders taking off to get away from them. Evren fell to the ground as the adrenalin went out of her system and she wasn’t able to stand anymore. Ah, she was getting soaked she mused to herself and chuckled. It wasn’t long till the sirens were blazing and the medics were there rushing to get to everyone who was injured.
It was not long after she realized she was being carried and lifted onto one of the carriers… she felt like she heard them saying something about her going into shock but she was too tired… and Evren let her conscious fade out.

Giulia ( Rapunzel)
Farmer Nat's approval, and his stumble, gave her the panicked strength to kick the spider one more time, as it scuttled off towards the bushes. A retreat! The blonde almost cheered, her long blonde braid bouncing as she did a skip-hop instead. "I will protect you, Farmer Nat!" she promised, "I'm gonna get strong and then I'll protect everyone, one day." it was her amby shun. Her goal.
Her shoulders relaxed as the spiders were leaving; The hissing seemed to get her on edge, made her shriek and fling her small body at Nate's leg in terror. "I thought it was going to be snakes," she told him as the water shot into the air. "I don't like snakes. They hug you because they want to eat you. Tricky things."
Almost as tricky as the disappearing spiders. She swallowed, not sure she wanted to think about that.
