Rennati was so relieved to be done with that last part. She was good at first aide, but not so well with making shelters. It was her savings grace that her partner had been pretty good at it. With moving on and receiving more instructions from the instructor, she watched everyone find somewhere to sit down. Figuring that was probably a good idea, she went and sat down and leaned against a tree. The pamphlet was very detailed and she was surprised that it was so detailed even though it probably shouldn't have surprised her. With a sigh, she took the quiz before going to hand it in.

After turning in her quiz, Rennati started getting on the task of gathering things. Well, after all the fake rainstorms on people's shelters there was a LOT of water around. The water could be boiled right? Or filtered or something? She figured she could collect some of it anyway...okay so she got a little more than she had planned on but you could always use water. Maybe the teacher would teach her how to purify or filter it. Since undoubtedly you wouldn't always be able to find fresh water. Moving on, she decided to try her hand at setting a snare. She thought she set it correctly so she left it there while she collected other things. Just a short ways away, Rennati found some sort of tuber thing. Was it a potato? She really hoped so, they were one of her favorite things! Having waited a while, she went back to check her trap and much to her surprise there was a rabbit in it! Rennati muttered sorry to the poor rabbit before collecting it to go show Ervette. "Since there's not always going to be clean water...we need to be able to find any water and learn how to be able to make it drinkable...right?" She asked the instructor, hoping the water wasn't too dirty to be able to fix.

Lenore took one of the pamphlets and gave it a read. Her eyes glued to the pages, she read it again. And, because she could, she read it a third time. Satisfied, the girl took the pamphlet back and picked up the quiz.

What is one thing you should do when you find yourself in a lightning storm? Why do you think that is? Find an area with lots of trees, so that the lightning hits them instead. 3. Should you keep your head covered in hot weather? Why, or why not? Yes, to keep your temperature regulated. 4. In hot weather, when is the best time to travel? Why? Night, because it is cooler. 5. If a lightning strike is imminent, what should you do? Crouch down, and don't inhale. Though it probably won't matter because lightning is really fast and you won't really have time to react.
The girl couldn't help the sarcastic comment at the bottom, and nevertheless turned in the quiz.

Lenore milled about the area. Without a clear guideline in mind, the girl wasn't sure where to start. Seeing a bush off in the distance, she walked over to it. Tilting her head, she looked at the berries on it and grabbed a few. Stashing them in her pocket, she looked down to see some flowers - yellow ones and purple ones. The yellow ones had lots of leaves, while the purple ones didn't. Honestly, they didn't look very appetizing, but if she had to, she supposed she could eat it. She picked them and put them in her pocket as well. Wandering around, she found some brown spotted mushrooms, and she picked those as well. Deciding she probably had enough, the girl walked back to Ervette.

Farvardin looked at the quiz and then turned her attention to the pamphlet. She quickly spotted where the answers were and scribbled down the answers. She wasn't one for reading and wanted to get done so she could move on to the next part. She quickly turned in the quiz and headed off to the forest to do the next activity.

Why do you think that is? Head to a group of small trees surrounded by some taller ones or a depression or something like that. This is to make something taller than you a target for the lightning. 3. Should you keep your head covered in hot weather? Why, or why not? Yes because it helps regulate your body temperature. 4. In hot weather, when is the best time to travel? Why? Night because it is cooler. 5. If a lightning strike is imminent, what should you do? Stay still and don't inhale. Hm.. I guess you could say you're pretending to be dead. Good time to practice.

Farvardin eagerly headed into the woods but kept to the edges so she could find her way back. Immediately she spotted some sort of plant and picked it. She continued on and began to mutter about how she wished she had her bow and arrows. She could then shoot any small game or a deer (not that she thought she'd run into one). But no she didn't have it since they didn't want her carrying around.
She soon wandered away from the edge of the forest and headed in deeper. She nearly walked right into a small pond. Stepping back from it she studied it for a moment. It was clear and had nothing growing on it. Plus she saw some fish swimming in it. She collected some in a container she magically had on her. She would boil it later when she got out of the forest. The fish were enticing her to catch them but she decided to go look for something else.
Not going too far she found another plant and picked it. It was different from the one she got earlier. She shrugged figuring that it was fine. She was about to head on when she saw a good sized stick. Hm.. she could make a fishing pole with that. She had some string on her she could use. She grabbed it and walked back to the pond. Soon she was sitting there trying to fish with small worms she dug out of the ground.
It wasn't long before she had a bite. Pulling the fish out she threw it to the side away from the pond so it wouldn't flop back in. She baited the line and began to fish again. While she could have, and would have preferred to, set a trap and caught something like a rabbit she figured fish was also good. She caught a second fish and decided to call it good.
Gathering her goods she looked around. Which way did she come from? She wasn't sure now and began walking in a random direction. Surely she would be lucky enough to end up somewhere near where the group was. She was lucky, sort of, as she managed to find her way out of the forest. However she was way, way, way off from where the group was. "Oops." She muttered to herself as she hurried back to the class that was in the distance.

Larisa accepted her pamphlet with a grateful nod to Ervette and then immediately flipped it open to begin reading. Although she'd grown up a pretty good distance from most towns or villages, she'd hardly been out in the wilderness out on the farm and any hunting that had needed doing had been her brother's job. She only really knew the very very basic things that most everyone did because of it, so she did her best to soak up the information as best she could, reading over it two or three times before beginning to work on the quiz. Luckily it wasn't terribly hard to answer, thanks to how carefully she'd studied the thing first.

Larisa kind of wished she'd been assigned a partner for this part of the test, too. She still wasn't entirely sure about how to set the snares and all, but she supposed she was here to learn for just that reason. And besides, her last moment as a partner hadn't ended quite so well. Wincing at the memory, she hoped Jeong really wasn't mad at her. He'd acted like it wasn't a big deal, but she still felt so bad about punching him...But she wasn't here to think about that! Shaking her head to dispel the thoughts, she began her trek into the forest. All she had to do was find things to eat or drink and bring them back for Ervette to see.
Her first find was an easy one. The berries were so bright and red she hardly could have missed them! But were they safe to eat? Some berries could be poisonous, she knew, but she wasn't sure how to tell the difference. After peering at them indecisively for another few moments, she grabbed a handful to stow in her bag. And then, on second thought, grabbed a second handful, just in case she didn't find anything else. Figuring that was more than enough, she kept moving.
It was a lot harder to find food and water sources than she'd expected though. Or maybe the other trainees were just beating her to them? The answer might have made her feel a little better about her scavenging skills, but she knew that it wasn't very likely. She would just have to look even harder. Eventually she happened upon some plants that looked promising and quickly knelt to dig them up. The two things she discovered looked an awful lot like potatoes, which couldn't be anything other than a good sign! She put those in the bag too, and then started back towards camp.
On the way back, she found a little patch of purple flowers. Edible? Maybe not, but they were very pretty! Feeling a little silly, she stooped to pick some. Maybe she could keep them, find a vase or something for the dorm room? Rolling one thoughtfully between her fingers, she made her way back to present her bag to Ervette.

After being handed the little handbook, Lip took a seat and read through it. He read through it a few times before looking at the quiz questions. He was fairly surprised on some of the material he had read as he actually didn't know some of it.... Though most of it he did. The young man took out a pencil and began writing in the answers, looking back in the book for reference. After checking his answers, Lip shook his head... He thought his answers sounds really stupid then again... the instructor did say that this quiz wouldn't really affect the class itself.. He then picked himself up and looked to the others that were working on their tests as he handed his to the instructor.

Lillian took the pamphlet in her hands and began to read. Everything seemed straightforward. It wasn't like she had a stack of survival books lined against her room, but common sense went a long way. Still, she would admit the pamphlet covered a few things she never thought about. It was nice to learn a few new things..., one could never be too prepared... for a test, or for surviving in the wild. She read it over a few times, then picked up the quiz. Carefully she read each question before placing her answer.

Axel read the pamphlet. He reached the end and realized he had read the whole thing without taking in any of it. It was difficult to pay attention to the boring words on the page when all he wanted to do was mull over how first aid had gone wrong and why. Okay, so he and Preacher had argued over building the tent in the first place. After they got the damn thing built, they'd been getting along! For a little while! Axel sighed and started the pamphlet over.
Keep as cool as you can...
Axel had never been cool. He wouldn't know where to start. Like that dumb thing he'd said about Harper. Terribly uncool. Ugh. That was probably what pissed Preacher off.
Build a shelter...
If his survival ever depended on his tent building skills, Axel might as well just strangle himself with his ziplines right then and there. Thank goodness he wasn't planning on leaving the walls.
Become the smallest target possible...
Target for what? Titans? What was he even reading about? Axel went back to read the pamphlet for a third time, but now he couldn't focus at all. He decided to go ahead and try the quiz. It looked easy.

Feeling rather dispirited about the whole thing, Axel wandered around looking for things that might be edible. He didn't see anything immediately, so he headed to a clump of plants and scraped around in the dirt with his boot, wondering if they had some kind of edible roots. His luck was in, and he unearthed a lumpy brown thing. It bore about the same resemblance to a proper potato as the mess hall 'potatoes' did, but at least it was something to turn in. Moving on, Axel dipped his canteen in a puddle of disgusting stagnant water. It was clearly dirty, but he had already accepted the fact that if he were left to his own devices in the wild he would die, so he scooped it up anyways. He filled his pockets with a double handful of bright red berries that were almost certainly poisonous. For good measure he scooped up some spotted brown mushrooms that would likely guarantee anyone who consumed them a painful, diarrhea-laden death.
Whatever.
"Okay, I got some stuff," Axel said, returning to Ervette with his finds.

Ervette glanced over the trainee's scavenged goods. It was really, really impressive, she had to admit.
"The rabbit is beautiful. Very nicely done, you set a mean snare. These," she pointed at the brown mushrooms, "are edible. As are these," she pointed at the dandelion greens.
"You thought to boil the water, which is excellent. Very excellent. Water will be very, very important. However, these," she gestured at the red mushrooms, "will kill you if you eat them. Overall, trainee, I'm really pleased with how well you've done."
"Trainee, let's see. The berries are edible. The onion, dandelion, also very edible. The mushrooms, like I've told your clone here, will kill you if you eat them. The rabbit, very good, very good. I'm really impressed with the rabbits, you will do well if you're ever outside of the walls and need to search for food."
She clapped Hwan on the shoulder and offered him a little smile.
"You have to remember - if they're pretty, they're probably poisonous."
