Status of mission: Mixed. We managed to defeat the creature, which seemed to be some kind of illusionist: its lair full of music that faded out upon closer listen and strange sights that later proved to be completely ordinary. There was some kind of mist that made it impossible to see more.

Commendations or warnings: Dylon held up very well, where Shu and I seemed limited by the strange mist.

We were able to defeat the strange fog that covered the area by attacking the ghostly thingies within! I'm not sure what they were, but it took us a very long time to do it. I started by defending my comrades, but soon they were weakened to a point where only I was able to attack so long as they covered me. As a result the fight took a long long time, since my fighting skills are not at their best yet.

Deus Ex Machina Mission Report Form
((OOC: PLEASE LINK YOUR RP HERE))
Name: William Reid
Division: Death Division
Status: Hunter
Mission ranking: External Mission
Status of mission:
Designated Title: GrE-Inf-345-██
Location: ██████ Mall , ██████ , ██
Time: First phase - 12:21PM. Initially dispatched hunters (William Hughes, Harrison Hughes and a small support group - see page 7 for detailed breakdown of all personnel) arrived at ██████ Mall anticipating a reported small scale and containable outbreak. This had progressed beyond small scaled at this time and experimental antidote S7-VrG was applied to some of the infected present when events began to escalate beyond the manpower to contain. This point is where the mission initially derailed from set parameters and comparable previous outbreaks. S7-VrG was re-tested in later stages of the mission under more controlled circumstances but at present it still retains its 25% success rate on non-bonded targets. It was not used on bonded at any point due to a much reduced success rate (3%) and dangerous side effects. S7-VrG is PROHIBITED from use on bonded (hunters).

The decision was made at this point based on intelligence received pertaining to the high mutation rate of the infected involved to escalate the mission from a small field operation to a more urgent classification (rank B3). A base camp was established, with infirmary facilities and resources brought in from island. Portal contact was established and maintained in the form of a low-power C type portal from lighthouse node and permission for enduring contact was granted. An all-hunter request was sent out over the mobile phone network and individual groups from other divisions were added to the group already present. These were primarily divided into a Perimeter Team, Camp Team and Evacuation Team. Each team had a group of suited personnel and provided exemplary support to the operation at large.

At this point a strategy was decided upon and newly arriving individuals were deployed to control the scattered infected which were hunting down and infecting - or recycling - the remaining civilians. There were proven accounts at this stage that infected had begun to twist and meld together in a process I have previously referred to as meshing (see Mission GrE-Inf-003-██ for further details of this phenomenon) Around this stage of the mission (approx 4PM) it was noted that the corpses from those civilians killed in the initial outbreak of infection had begun to go missing entirely, it was not until later this was found to be due to TENTACLE subclass infected amassing resources for SERPENT (see classification note, page 3).

During this deployment, initial agents withdrew to area 2 (referred to as the Ice rink) and employed steps to contain aforementioned civilians. It was discovered at this stage that all non-bonded targets within the perimeter of the Mall were infected. The civilians were brought to area 2 and a sorting and organising system was applied as they were passed to the Perimeter Team. Tested antidote ██ was administered and ██████ ███ ██ ████ those who did not meet the criteria for the limited resources available.

To summarise, stage 1 of the mission was divided into two prongs of control, one mitigating the threat to the area beyond the quarantine zone and the other systematically removing resources from the greater threat theorised to lie beneath the mall itself.

Second phase - It was determined that contact with the quarantine zone should be maintained via a series of PA system announcements to ensure a concerted application of resources and quick response in the case of one of the sub-groups of voluntary hunters finding themselves in a critical situation. This was also discovered to be an ideal way to retrieve civilians, with many making their own way successfully to area 2 without hunter escort. The CCTV system within the mall itself provided area wide surveillance and these tapes have been retrieved and are filed as SPECIMEN 12 under this mission title.

Hunters split up into groups (detailed further on pg 9) and began to encounter the various infected, this permitted recorded surveillance of several types along with the arrival - presumably from the aforementioned meshing of two or three new types. In total the infected encountered on this mission were NORMAL, SPITTER, ARMOURED, SPEEDY, LAUGHING, BARRICADE BREAKER, TENTACLE (not a type in its own right, rather a sub category) and SERPENT (to which the tentacle types seemed to be attached) Further research is required into why a human will take on one of these shapes and not the others and to explain the relatively delayed mutation rate of the young.

There were few hunter/bonded fatalities in the first two phases of the mission, the teams engaged their creatures and emerged intact and several groups returned civilians to area 2 without issue. It was decided as nightfall set in to try and draw out the theorised infected type which had to have been gathering the many many bodies of the fallen. This was announced to the field teams and was followed up with triggering the sprinkler system. As predicted, both factors increased the aggression levels of the infected, but these had been maintained to a level that they did not over-run the camps.

Jack Hawthorn and his group brought back a civilian child in questionable condition due to the prolonged use of a runic net, it is advisable that all divisions are informed about the dangers of runic tech when applied to unbonded.

Around this point Konstantin Bashmet returned an infected infant to area 2, HQ was contacted and ██████ ███ ██ ████ █████████ Life ██ ███ ███

Third Phase - This phase was classified by the onset - after prolonged exposure - of symptoms of infection in bonded (hunter) individuals. It is theorised that these symptoms manifested most strongly in those who had come into contact with the infection before (confirmation of this via personnel records would be required, present access levels make this impossible at this time)

Infection spread quickly from individual to individual until it had encompassed a large percentage of the defenders, making protecting the base from the BARRICADE BREAKER type infected (referred to at times on camera as “Barry”) very difficult.

It is also difficult to pinpoint the exact place where this particular infection took hold, most notable is the strange situation surrounding an incident seen on tape 6, at around 45:20:01 where an individual identifiable as Sasha Belrose assaults a non-hostile target with startling ferocity which builds in intensity until she blacks out. This unconscious state remained throughout the mission and none of those struck by her appeared to develop infection. It is my assumption that this could in theory be something other than the GREEN EYES type infection we are looking at at present. There is no hint of the standard symptoms of this infection present in Miss Belrose and it would be surmisable given her history (once again, access to personnel records would be required to confirm this) that this was simply an outburst of temper was it not for another such incident on this very mission.

I (William Hughes) partook in a strange bout of correspondence with Konstantin Bashmet (submitted as specimen 28 ) which included discussion of his requirement to “barricade self in “ and affirmation that it was not the GREEN EYES strain - “am compromised. not green eye. classified.” I have failed to find any reference to this particular affliction and on tape 13 at around 32:40:33 Mr Bashmet can be seen going through a similar cycle to Miss Belrose and lapsing into unconsciousness which persisted for a long time.

I would consider both of these individuals worthy of further investigations lest this occur again at a mission-critical moment.

Fourth Phase - This phase began with the arrival of the SERPENT type infected to the camp. Investigation is needed into whether this type displays any manner of sentience of if it simply echoes the neural pathways of it’s victims. A combat plan was initiated and the creature was successfully pinned and subdued. Its death throes demolished what was left of the mall interior. Escape was called and all personnel with the exception of the Perimeter Team were evacuated.

Fifth Phase - The resultant fires and destruction were ██████ ███ ██ ████ █████████ Life ██ ███ ███ ██ ███ ████████ ███ ██ ████ for further information see page [REDACTED]

The overall mission was a success but there is room for further development of antidotes and a further refinement of teamwork.

Additional points of extreme importance: From this mission we learned the GREEN EYES infection can be highly mutagenic and that large quantities of organic material should be removed as soon as possible from its presence along with all civilians.
Further investigation MUST be done into antidotes
Further investigation MUST be done into Mr Bashmet and Miss Belrose and the nature of their responses.

Commendations or warnings:
Commendation to all who helped with the mission as a whole but on an individual basis I would recommend. -

Peyton Creedy - For exemplary combat efforts
America Jones - For showing precise and methodological thinking in regards to defences.
Alexei Evan Jamil - For consistent composure and combat effort.
Nellie Fenette - For effort :l
Isaac Evenstad - For effort also
Melvin Wood- For well-done rune carving.
Harrison Hughes- For always maintaining a level head and following even controversial orders to the letter.

The individuals I would set warnings against are -

Mimsy and Robert Morris - Showed a dangerous degree of attachment to a civilian child at the expense of their own welfare and potentially that of the mission.
C. Al McKay - Wandered off on his own for no reason and endangered the welfare of himself and others.
Konstantin Bashmet - See note above
Sasha Belrose - See note above

Status of mission: Success
Green-eye infection observed, mall lost but it was doomed to begin with.
Additional points of extreme importance: Mutagenic effects observed on civilians when put in contact with Green Eye. Hunters react to infection with paranoia, become traitorous against their will.
Commendations or warnings:
Horace Nokoni: Resourceful, good with children and filled the role of a Moon without complaint.
Nora Ravensgrove: Excellent in combat, willing to be in the heat of battle.
Thomas (Didn't Catch His Last Name): Eager to get the job done, good with civilians encountered. Attacked Horace and I, but I believe this was due to Green Eye infection.

Status of mission: Scouting mission to find signs of activity, so I mean, that's a success, because that thing was very active. So. Good job me for stumbling on a horseman that tried to kill me and almost succeeded. Total success.
Additional points of extreme importance: Horsemen don't seem to be running on the same plane of logic that we do, so I guess I would just say, trying to talk to them is pretty pointless. Not worth the trouble, just attack.
Commendations or warnings: Don't approach this horseman, he's made of bugs and is seriously demented. Avoid at all costs.
