Quote: Survey Mission 4CLocation: San Zhi Resort Images:: x, x, x. General debriefing: There has been the stirring of something that scares even the locals: a rumour has it that in the evening, the lights turn on several of the odd pod-like buildings. Music can be heard from within before the light flickers off. This investigation must happen, due to this claim, in the evening after dark. * C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, at least one of them must be an intermediate trainee) MECHANICS * MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 4C. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll a INSANITY ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics. 1- 20: The darkness combined with the fog make it extremely difficult to navigate. As you move your flashlight against the ground all you see is the crackled pavement, the pods obscured from sight - - As a skeletal face carved right into the cement leers at you - - And disappears. It was just your imagination... right? 21 - 40: Tattered pieces of fabric seem to be hanging from a few smashed windows. Upon further investigation you realize it is actually strips of skin peeled off some hapless creature. 41 - 60: You take a look at the pods again. They look normal enough, though none of them have the odd flickering light. Well that's a relief. A strange jarring noise interrupts you and as you look back, the order of the pods have changed, from location to colour. 61 - 80: You hear music playing in the background, a sort of wailing, foreign music. It seems to be coming from right above you, but nothing is there. Only you can hear it. 81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER: - As you continue walking down the sidewalk you hear a large crack, followed by another. A strange gas explodes from underneath, making you extremely dizzy, as you cough to figure out what is going on, fighting for air now. You have exposed your entire team to a hallucinogen, making everything more terrifying than ever as your vision swims and hops uncontrollably and your hearing becomes muted. Something creaks, groans, lurches underneath you, but is that your imagination? - BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a mob that has collective 100 HP. Every time you attack it (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. AS you can't really see the boss, most of it will have to be dependent on what you can see, if anything at all, from strange faceless figures lurching, half-hopping towards you to the smiling dead coming back and swiping at you. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back. * 4 mission reward points for completing this successfully

He was taking an interest in external mission assignments, as long as they gave him a group. It was easier, that way, to throw himself into the fray without the worry that Russia might happen again. Leslie was more afraid of other hunters than anything Halloween could throw at him. Humans at their coarsest, debased and ruinous. So he showed up on time to his latest mission-- early, even-- runic daggers hidden beneath his hoodie, prepared for the next big ugly to rear its head once they stepped through the portal. Idly, he checked the roster. Noah-- who he owed a thank you to, probably-- and someone named Lydia that he didn't know. He prayed and hoped that she'd be one of the few island bitches that wasn't off her rocker, but wasn't crossing his fingers for it. There was a track record. Leslie lit a cigarette as he waited.

Lydia was beyond excited. She rarely got sent out on external missions, and hadn't yet made it her business to have her name put on the roster for more frequent assignments (though she had considered it more than once). So, when she got the call to go on an evening mission to the infamous Sanzhi resort in Taiwan, it had come as somewhat of a surprise, albeit not at all an unpleasant one. She had packed light, had caught a nap in the afternoon so that she would be refreshed and ready to go, and with her usual rag tag attire of an oversized sweater matched with cut off shorts and knee high socks, and with freshly dyed hair tied up in a high and messy ponytail, she arrived at the portals, a large, excited grin on her face. Her gaze wandered as she looked for the rest of her group, and a young looking man smoking a cigarette caught her eye, so she made her way over to him, trouncing along the ground in unlaced hiking boots that looked like they were about to fall off of her feet. "Hello! Are you part of the group going to Sanzhi?" she asked, eyes wide with delight.

Noah jogged up a few moments later, slightly out of breath, carrying a messenger bag in one hand that he looped over his shoulder as he approached. "Am I late?" he asked, and then realized that one of the other two people waiting at the portal was Leslie, and aimed a high-wattage friendly smile his way. "Oh hey, hi." He turned to the girl, who he was pretty sure he'd never seen before, he sometimes wasn't great at remembering people but he definitely would've remembered hair that cool, and offered his hand. "I'm Noah, Life division," he offered.

"Yep," Leslie replied dourly, eyeballing the girl. Whimsical hipster sort, she looked like. Relatively harmless. Probably. Then again, Shu was too, and she hit like two tons of bricks in a pickup truck. He blew out a long exhale of smoke, raising a hand in greeting at Noah. "Christ, turn your face down, it's bright." But the words were harsher than the tone, and a small quirk on thin lips gave away that Leslie wasn't as irritated as he could have been. Bribery was a really, really effective tactic. "We ready?" After any last minute preparations, Leslie stepped through the portal. -- It was dark out. The weird little pods were everywhere, and supposedly, acting strangely. Leslie summoned his weapon, thankful for the faint illumination that Aleria often offered with minimal lighting. He took a good, hard look at one of the buildings. Blue, with a lot of grime, dark entirely. Innocuous enough, if a bit weir- A terrible screech sounded off behind them, and as Leslie whirled, he realized: Some of them had moved. "Uh," he said, eloquent. "You guys see that s**t?" Quote: 41 - 60: You take a look at the pods again. They look normal enough, though none of them have the odd flickering light. Well that's a relief. Oh excellent! She had found one of her teammates and..oh look! There was another jogging up to join them! "Fantastic!" She laughed, clapping her hands together before holding one out towards Noah. "I'm Lydia, death division." she replied, giving his hand a firm shake before letting go. "So you must be Leslie!" She pointed, her grin about as bright as Noah's. "Oh, yes! Definitely ready!" She chirped at Leslie's question, after a glance into her own tote bag that she had absolutely had this entire time to make sure that she had everything that she thought she might need. When that was confirmed, she quickly traipsed along behind him and through the portal, eager to see what was on the other side. ---- "Fascinating!" She gasped. "I've always wanted to come here." Out of her tote bag she pulled out a runic flashlight which she had thought might come in handy, and clicked it to life, seeing no reason in summoning her weapon just yet. There was a fog to go along with the darkness, and Lydia did not wish to lose herself in it and become separated from her teammates, so she attempted to keep close to them both, continuing to follow Leslie while sweeping a beam of light around and keeping an eye out for anything strange or out of place. Everything was quiet, and a glance at each pod showed there to be none of the flickering lights she thought they were meant to look out for. She had taken out a notebook, and began to juggle it with her flashlight as a pen was pulled free as well before she began to scribble something in it rather quickly, peeking up once in a while to make sure she was still with her group. A jarring noise, and her eyes were darting up, and over towards Leslie. "What? I...no. I didn't see anything." She admitted, though at further glance, she was able to see what she thought he might be referring to. "Oh!" A surprised sound, as she was sure everything looked rather different than it had moments before. Colors had changed! And something else seemed off as well. "How peculiar!" She exclaimed, as she approached the nearest of these space age like buildings, which appeared to have a several of it's windows smashed in. Hanging from the glass she thought perhaps there was fabric of some kind, maybe from curtains, but upon closer investigation... "Oh, how wonderful! It's skin! Noah, would you care to take a sample?" She asked, turning to wave him over. Quote: 21 - 40: Tattered pieces of fabric seem to be hanging from a few smashed windows. The girl was perky. It was awful. "You mean you knew about this shithole before the report?" Leslie asked, his voice an annoyed drawl. This place gave him the ******** heebie jeebies already. (Running down the corridor, trapped, the drag of metal against metal, the stink of decay--) But at least it was a wide open space. There was nothing worse than being confined. "I am gonna leave that to you two ******** weirdos, and--" A series of cracks and creaks, and plumes of strange, blue gas began to unfurl towards the sky, enough to hit Leslie as well as Lydia and Noah. "You have got to be ******** kidding me," he bitched, mostly to himself, holding his weapon out in front of him. "ENEMY OVER HERE." A pause, and an almost swoon-- the world was lurching, heaving, or was that just Leslie's head? His wires were crossing. Leslie hated feeling out of his mind. There were many, and they all smiled. "********, s**t-- ENEMIES." seussi even if he doesn't love lydia i do ok I LOVE HER Quote: 81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER: - As you continue walking down the sidewalk you hear a large crack, followed by another. Noah turned down the intensity of the smile. Slightly. He liked having friends. Also, he had access to weed, which was probably a plus, even if there was a little bit of inherent judging going on. "Nice to meet you," he chirped back at Lydia. Sorry, Leslie, you were dealing with two cheerfully enthusiastic individuals on this mission. Noah followed along through the portal with no hesitation. --- "Have you heard about this place? Like, on the internet or something?" Noah's wide eyes spoke more of interest than fear or unease. Like Lydia, he had a flashlight, and as soon as they landed on the far side of the portal he had it out, sweeping the beam through the dark and light fog. The architecture of the pods intrigued him, and he headed for the nearest one with undisguised interest. An odd screech made him turn. He hadn't made a note of the colors, but -- "Did they change configurations?" he asked. Lydia had found something, and Noah trotted over obediently to see what she had. "What kind of skin do you think this is?" he asked, but he was already pulling a sample vial out of his shoulder bag, using a pencil to tease a strip loose and into the container with no apparent squeamishness. "I'm not sure it's thin enough to be human? More, like, leathery." He screwed the cap onto the vial and shoved it back into his bag as he turned. The plumes of gas were visible, ominous, and Noah yanked his scarf up over his mouth, recalling the gaseous stuff on the doll island. But either it was too fine to be stopped by the scarf, or the stuff it was composed of functioned by skin contact instead of via inhalation, and he could feel the dizzy strangeness setting in. He backed up a few steps. "It's, it's not real," he yelled. "Careful, we don't wanna hit each other," and then there were lurching figures materializing to grin at him, and he summoned Laz and swiped in the general direction of the things that seemed to be attacking them. Lydia nodded rather enthusiastically, her mass of curls bouncing right along with the motion. "Yes, I have. I like to read, and do research, and case studies, and well...anything of the more bizarre nature often catches my attention. These pod like buildings were called U.F.O houses." She explained, eagerly taking in all that she could see through the fog, while jotting down notes and doodling quick pictures on her page. "Yes, I believe so. Look here." She said to Noah, while holding out her notebook towards him. "I was attempting to make a map of our surroundings, but as you can see, things now look, well, quite different. How remarkable!" She grinned, before moving on. She was quite interested in what Noah had to say about the skin she had found, and had leaned in rather close to inspect it, though she left all sample taking to him. "Yes, I see." She murmured, eyes squinting behind thick lenses as if by doing so she could discern all the secrets of that shredded strip of flesh. But it seemed her investigation was to be interrupted. Leslie's yell alerted her, and with a startled yelp, she was turning, her notebook shoved back into her tote bag a moment before Rorric was in her hand, runes glowing a faint red-orange. "Wha-Where...?" She called out, the fog around her seeming to thicken, the air becoming a cloying thing that stuck in her lungs at every gasp of air. She felt dizzy, for a moment, Noah's words barely filtering through, and she gave her head a shake, blinking her eyes. Enemy. Enemies. Which was it? She could see shapes now, emerging, twisted features, eyes, teeth.... With another shriek, she struck out towards one of these figures, lashing at it's face with her multi-tailed whip. Noah winced at the rebuke and retreated a few steps, not arguing it. It wasn't really like he was an expert or something, he'd seen something like it before but maybe this was different. Giggling shadows melted in and out of the fog, and Noah tried to keep the locations of the pods in mind for cover -- but they'd been changing positions, Lydia had been mapping it, that wouldn't help -- he bumped into something solid in the fog and whirled around, only to find nothing there but the lingering stinging sensation across his back. Great. He was stuck out here with a pair of nerdlings, and he was the only one that was even remotely close to being a full hunter. Which was saying something, given how far off he was from promotion. "Christ," he muttered, recoiling back hard from a shadow's blow, lips pulled back into a snarl. Whatever this gas was, it didn't mean that the creature striking at him wasn't real. Something had to be making the gas. Leslie closed his eyes, exhaling harshly, and listened. He lunged, smashing hard at one of the figures, pleased when it actually connected, the feel of flesh against Aleria's spiked club sending a jolt of contentment through Leslie's veins. "Someone's gonna need to defend my a**, you two figure it out yourselves. Whatever this ******** thing is, it's gonna have staying power-- more than a trio of ******** trainees." It wasn't really confidence, in his voice, and it would never inspired anyone. It was just experience, cynical and weary, prepared for the worst. The tone in Leslie's voice, tired and certain, got Noah's attention. "Okay," he called, and, "I'm coming up behind you to keep them off your back, okay," because if he'd seen a figure looming out of the fog behind him with no warning he'd have tried to hit it. He tracked to where he'd heard Leslie's voice, moving carefully in the flitting haze, and turned to face the other direction. Something shot out of the fog, all glitchy fluttering wrongness and needle claws, and Noah got Laz up between themselves and Leslie and the thing, and the scraping sound of claws on the cleaver's blade made him wince but they'd kept those claws from sinking in without resistance. Laz snarled, low and bubbling and bristling with purposeful fury, and Noah was suffused with a weird deep sense of satisfaction. This was good. This was what they were for. Lydia would have jumped to Leslie's aid! Except...first she needed to figure out just where the other two went. She could hear their voices, or at least, she thought she could. Really, everything in her head felt about as swimmy and dizzy as her vision, and each step she took, hoping to that she was going in the right direction, felt leaden while her head felt light enough to float away on her. Every time she moved she had to concentrate hard to keep herself from falling, and when a sudden shadow with too many teeth in it's large grin loomed in front of her, she yelped, and whipped at it almost completely ineffectually with her whip. "C-coming!" She called out to the other two, as she inched her way nearer to where she thought they both were. HP: 24 Damage: 1 Charge: 2/3 Boss HP: 80/100

"Appreciated," Leslie replied with a clipped tone, but it freed up his movements. It hit him that he was the most senior one here-- although, quite possibly, the youngest-- and it set his teeth on edge. But he dragged Aleria against the ground, blue ice and sparks flying before he launched into a solid swing against an enemy, connecting sharply. He spared a glance at Noah, the wildness in his own eyes turning his face eerie, at least a little bit. "Good job," he panted, catching sight of Lydia in the distance, obscured by fog. "Follow my voice," Leslie barked, as loud as he could manage. "They're ******** with our eyes, at the least. s**t." HP: 32/50 Dmg: 6 Charge: 3/3 BOSS HP: 74/100
