As frustrating as it was to get her shots blocked so easily every time, this was about what Scarlett expected from Zak. Not to mention they were moving at a slower pace, so it was pretty easy for him to see how she moved, and vice versa. It was going to be a challenge to actually land a basket on him, and if this was just practice, she couldn't imagine what things would be like if Zak weren't holding back. After a few more attempts, Scarlett was still failing to make any progress towards making a basket, other than getting Zak to narrow his eyes at her closer range. As her shot was once again blocked, Scarlett straightened and blew a bit of hair out of her face in annoyance while Zak lectured her, insisting that she would have to do better and move faster. "Fine." She suggested with a light smirk. She was feeling more confident in her dribbling now, so she was willing to test things out at a faster pace, and it was excruciating to move so slowly. It was all in the interest of getting her ball handling down, though. She could zip back and forth along the court if she really wanted to, but her dribbling skills weren't nearly up to par with her speed, so sprinting at full throttle would only result in her losing control of the ball.
However, before they could start up again, Zak insisted that it was his turn to take a few shots and get some real exercise. Scarlett wanted to feel offended, it was a really insulting comment, but she just couldn't bring herself to be angry at him for it. Instead, she felt strangely amused. "Ouch." She grinned. "That bad eh?" With a light chuckle and sigh, Scarlett looked thoughtful, nodding as Zak went on to explain that he just needed to relieve the tension in his muscles. "Yeah, go ahead." She said dismissively, turning to move back to the bench where she'd placed her bag. She couldn't really blame Zak for the quip at their difference in skill level. Scarlett herself had been focusing more on practicing her dribbling and shooting while observing how Zak moved to block her from the different maneuvers she had attempted. Given that even she hadn't felt really pushed much physically yet, Scarlett couldn't imagine how Zak felt currently.
Pulling a water bottle out of her bag, Scarlett took a couple of small sips, mostly watching Zak take his shots and waiting for him to finish so that they could start up again. She had been thinking of a new tactic to try, and she was itching to see how it faired. Once Zak was ready to hand over the ball, Scarlett got into position. Faking a shot hadn't been working. Zak was too experienced and Scarlett was too new at the game, so she wasn't going to trick him by just moving a little bit in one direction and then switching to another. Zak had said himself that in order to pull that off, she needed to do better and move faster. She moved in close to Zak's range like she had been doing the past couple of shots, faking again the same way she had been attempting before, and then veering the other direction to jump and make an attempt on a shot. This time however, she didn't actually shoot after jumping and extending her arm, instead she waited for Zak to move to block her like he usually did, and once he'd committed to that move, then she would actually make her shot when he left a space open. If he didn't actually commit to blocking her though, then she would just land and dribble back to try again.

Zak was... a little surprised at Scarlett's nonchalant reaction to his rather blunt and rude remark. He lifted his head, but his expression was ambiguous-- it didn't even show the confusion the response had stirred. He looked at her a moment, a strange sensation twisting inside him, before he turned, moving to get the ball, a wry smirk crossing his face as he glanced briefly back at her. He didn't say anything, though, at least not until he had the ball, and had absently dribbled his way back to the basket. Once there, he backed up to get ready for a shot, but smirked, eyes on the basket even when he spoke up. "No looking, Mishka," he called lightly over, "I don't vant you getting a sneak peak at how fast I can really go...." He finally sent a glance in her direction, but looked back to the basket soon thereafter.
He actually was being a bit serious. He was already trying to hold back, and he didn't know whether any shots she might make while they were 'warming up' counted, and he didn't want to take the risk of her making any just in case. It was hard enough trying to do that, but let her practice, and see what she had, but add into it if she knew some of what he was capable of? She was already getting glimpses when he defended against her shots; a whole preview could lend her to a quick strategy to take advantage of his restrained state and score a basket.
Once he was sure she wasn't looking, he seemed to either trust her, or get too lost in the game to care, because he quickly began moving around, practicing his pivoting, turning, starting, false starts and half fakes, taking shots, making lay ups, and catching slam dunks. He didn't try and draw it out too much, but he really did need to get some of the built up tension out of his muscles. Once he'd loosened up a bit more he was ready to go again, and took up his defensive stance. He furrowed his brow a bit as she went for the shot, watching her a moment before taking the jump to block it. He blinked when she moved to make her shot, but he quickly twisted, swung his arm around and hit it just enough to send it off course. He landed, frowning after the ball.
Looking back at her, he raised an eyebrow, before moving to go get it. "Nice fake, Mishka," he remarked, "But I'm steel holding back. Vich reminds me.... Do your shots count for our leetle 'deal' vhile you learn? Because eef so..." He grabbed the ball, turning back and heading over, passing it back to her. "I'm going to stop holding back very soon..."

Apollo ran a finger through his hair, stepping out of his shoes and placing them by the door. "It was fine," he replied casually, keeping his answer vague so as not to go into detail. Striding over to Cyrus the bright-haired male leaned over him to peer down at his phone, nodding lightly as he began to list off a few restaurants they could visit. "In the mood for Italian?" he questioned, he knew he could go for pasta. Apollo straightened back up and then moved over to the bathroom, slipping his communicator off his wrist and tossing it onto his bed on his way there. Mila had been in 'something' of a mood ever since arriving in Castelia, it came with being lost and separated from her trainer, and even after meeting up with Vandal and recruiting him in her search it took several minutes for her to relax. It helped that the fox had managed to make her laugh, able to joke even when his disguise had been discovered. "Is that all it takes?" she asked slowly, a bit surprised to find that all it had taken was a bit of laughter to keep him from being upset. "If I laugh more, will that keep you from getting mad at me?" It was an... interesting idea, though she highly doubted it was true. With things settled the two moved on to more important matters, Mila transferring the scent of her trainer to Vandal via telepathy. Mila folded her hands gently over her 'skirt', nodding silently when he spurred them into movement before she followed after.
Mila kept to Vandal's side as they began to move through the city, switching between keeping close so as to not lose him and trying to maintain some appropriate distance between them. At the same time she joked Vandal in trying to sniff out her trainer, though in the back of her mind she did her best to memorize Vandal's scent; just in case... she lost him, of course. "How come?" she instantly questioned when Vandal revealed he'd be keeping his human form. "You're not one of those types that prefers looking like a human, are you?" She wouldn't... judge him if it was found that he was, she was just curious. At the same time, however, she'd do her best to help Vandal keep his guise. "Mmm, when I last saw her?" Mila repeated the question, head tipping to the side naturally. "I saw her at this fair. She wanted to go there, for whatever reason." The Renaissance Fair, that was what it'd been called. It had... started out fun, even if most of the humans had been wearing gaudy outfits, but it had quickly lost its interest. "When I lost her at one point I thought I saw her boarding this train. But... I was wrong," Mila answered quietly. So much for knowing her trainer.

He didn't react much when his friend leaned over to look at his phone, which was showing some reviews for the restaurants he mentioned. "Sounds good to me." Cyrus agreed as Apollo asked if he was in the mood for some Italian. He appreciated that his friend didn't twist the words to refer to himself in a suggestive manner, but cursed himself for thinking of it in the first place. Since the place was chosen, Cyrus closed out of the other windows on his phone. Although he had originally planned, and desired, to take a shower Apollo figured a quick wash-up was more appropriate, since they’d only be out for an hour or so. Keeping in mind his promise of being ‘quick’ Apollo did his best to keep his time in the bathroom short, while at the same time being thorough with his cleansing. Five minutes later and he had concluded his business, lingering in front of the mirror a second longer to get a good look at himself. He ran his fingers gently through his hair, playfully pushing the bright strands this way and that to try and decide a hairstyle for himself. He’d been rocking the ponytail for the past few days, so it was time for a change. Apollo leaned forward and flashed his reflection a smile, at the same time dragging his hair forward so that part of it covered his left eye; asymmetrical bangs were in right now, weren't they?
Before Apollo could give himself the chance to truly delve into the tricky art of hair styling he remembered that Cyrus was outside, waiting for him. With a huff, and the promise that, come tomorrow, he’d try something different, Apollo contented himself with simply wearing his hair down before he exited the bathroom. "Sorry I took so long,” he apologized as he moved back to his bed, reattaching his communicator with only the slightest of grimaces. Apollo stepped closer to Cyrus, one hand reaching out to idly play with his cream-colored strands, maybe he could do something with Cyrus’ hair too… “Ready to go?”

Scarlett chuckled lightly as Zak insisted that she couldn't look to see how fast he really could go. "Alright, fair enough." She agreed. Part of her wanted to argue that there was no point in seeing how fast he could go if she couldn't keep up, but that would mean that admitting Zak could potentially move faster than she could, and she didn't want to admit such a thing. After all, she was a speed demon herself, given all the high-speed chases and parkour she involved herself in daily. She just wasn't able to apply dribbling to that level of speed just yet. A moment or two after turning away and busily taking a sip of her water, Scarlett heard Zak moving, and it occurred to her that, while she wasn't looking, she could still listen and gauge his speed just from the sound of his feet on the pavement. She thought about offering to plug her ears, but by now it was a bit late; she was already keenly listening to his movements.
It wasn't as informative as the visuals would have been, but she would take it over nothing at all. Occasionally his steps moved in an odd sort of rhythm as he practiced various maneuvers. He wasn't kidding about needing to get in a real workout; he was really going all out on his own. Scarlett smiled a bit to herself, though she wasn't sure why. There was some strange satisfaction in knowing someone's passion and watching or, in Scarlett's case, listening to them giving their all. Once Zak was ready for her, Scarlett turned back around, approaching the inner court to pull off an impressive fake that almost got past Zak. It was enough to make him frown and compliment her at least, which was certainly something. "Thanks." She grinned. Even though if Zak weren't holding back she probably wouldn't have gotten that far, as Zak was quick to point out, she was still happy with her progress. However, Zak raised another good point, asking if any scores during their practice counted. "A'caurse not." Scarlett rolled her eyes, though she didn't blame him for being careful. "Yer bein' generous with these practices, I know better than ta take advantage of them." She insisted. "Besides, even if that were my plan, I doubt you'd accept a score under those circumstances, yeah?" She shot Zak an amused look, dribbling the basketball a few times. "On that note, though... Let's start playing for real neu. I think I'm warmed up enough." She stated seriously. She wasn't implying that she was ready for Zak's best, but she was at the point now where practicing against Zak while he was holding back wouldn't be doing her any favors in prepping her for the real thing. Essentially, she was giving him permission to thrash her now so that she could learn from it. She always learned things better the hard way anyways.

Vandal grinned lazily as Mila seemed surprised that her laughing was the reason why he wasn't mad. "Well, I guess that's not all it takes, but... Puttin' it lightly miss Mila, you've been it quite the tizzy ever since you came lookin' for assistance. I hate to see a lady in distress, so I'm glad to put a smile back on that pretty face of yours, even if it's at my expense. Plus, you are a psychic; figures you'd find out sooner or later." He explained, chuckling as Mila asked if he wouldn't get mad at her as long as she kept laughing. "Well missy, that depends. Just what are you planning to do that might make me mad at you?" He asked jokingly. Once he had collected sights and smells of Mila's trainer, he spurred their little search party onward, though he mentioned that he intended to keep his illusion up. This seemed to confuse Mila, which wasn't all that surprising; most pokemon and humans didn't understand. "Nah, it's nothin' like that. I'm helping my trainer train her team, and so I gotta play the part of the trainer." Vandal explained, waving his hand dismissively. It wasn't the whole truth, but it should be enough of an explanation to satisfy Mila, and it would explain any detour into plasma territory without giving away Scarlett's true intent. "Plus, like I said, it's my natural defense. I'm not gonna give away what I am to a potential challenger, human or pokemon." Vandal said flatly.
Zoroark got a bad rap for using "underhanded" tactics like their illusions, but it helped them survive. Why wouldn't they use it? It wasn't exactly playing dirty when illusions were a natural defense mechanism for their species. Though there were plenty of zoroark that used illusions to steal or play tricks on others. Vandal himself was a shining example, but at least he was trying to turn a new leaf.... By partnering up with a pirate. Yeah. Because that was any different. Arceus.... Vandal sighed, his mouth twitching irritably. Scarlett had some morals at least, unlike Klepto, so it was a step in the right direction. However, trying to explain his situation would likely give Mila the wrong impression, and Vandal didn't want that, so he quickly changed topics by asking where Mila last saw her trainer. "The Renaissance Fair? My trainer and I went there too." Vandal nodded. "Yeah, one of the trains led to Castelia. That's the one we took here..." Vandal frowned, noting the quiet tone Mila used in her answer.

Sinbad seemed more than content to stay behind in the room, even putting a paw over the Cyrus' bag that he set down beside him to watch over. While waiting for Apollo to finish up in the bathroom, Cy stretched a bit, finished with petting the lion.
Apollo sure seemed to take his time, but it wasn't too long before he emerged from the bathroom, rejoining Cyrus with an apology. "S'fine." the dark skinned male replied as Apollo drew near, though there was a muffled sound of surprise -almost a squeak- as his friend's fingers found their way to his hair. An embarrassed blush spread across his face, tensing up slightly before stepping away towards the door. "Yeah, let's go." he stated in response, then proceeded to lead the way for his friend.

Apollo gave a soft smile in response to Cyrus' squeak and blush, making an apologetic face before he pulled his hand away and returning it to his side. "Sorry, sorry. I'll keep my hands to myself from now on," he promised, checking his pocket for their room key as they left the room. Apollo took to walking beside Cyrus as they headed out, hands resting casually by his sides. "So, wanna start making plans for tomorrow?" he suggested, keeping his eyes straight ahead. "You wanted to go back to get your first badge, right? If we leave around seven we can get a good head start." Of course, it was very well possible that Cyrus was a 'morning person' like himself, which would be fine with him. "Or we could leave later, it's up to you, really."

Mila listened quietly as Vandal explained the reason behind why he laugh had such a positive effect, the corner of her mouth twitching up with amusement when told she had a pretty face. "Well aren't you just the hero every woman needs," she joked, trying not to show much of a reaction to the fox's compliment; was there an increase in the temperature, or was that just her? In response to his question the Vixen only offered a soft shrug. "I wouldn't plan anything per se, I just seem to have a knack for rubbing people the wrong way; or so I'm told," Mila answered off-handedly and so lackadaisically it was clear that she didn't believe it herself. She was a peach. Once they began moving Vandal cautioned her, if the situation called for it, do her best to keep his more... foxlike qualities under wraps, which of course only Mila curious as to why. "Ah." Mila nodded slowly. Of course Vandal had a trainer, that much was easy to tell: she doubted any wild pokemon would have a team of pokemon on them, let alone battle other trainers. "Well, you'll have to tell me what it's like: living the 'other half'," she insisted.
Mila grew reflective, an open gaze falling onto Vandal as they continued moving. Zoroark and Zorua certainly had an interesting little ability, one other pokemon couldn't copy. Or, in the case of Ditto, at least as effective. She'd had a few interactions with the illusionist before... or at least... she thought she did? The memory wasn't exact, but she got the feeling that she'd held a conversation or two with at least one; why couldn't she remember? Snapping out of her daydream Mila's ear twitched at Vandal's sigh and she turned her attention to him. "Everything alright?" she questioned, purely curious-- she wasn't actually concerned. The Delphox ended up having to hold back her own sigh when Vandal asked where the last place she'd seen her trainer, she wasn't tired of his questioning it was just... a bit depressing to think back to it. This was the first time she'd been separated from her trainer, at least from what she could remember. "Oh, really? What did you think of the fair?" Mila questioned, doing her best not to appear too down. At this point she felt as if she was on an emotional roller coaster.

Scarlett hadn't really been annoyed at Zak's question. Even though it was kind of insulting to her pride, she did, in fact, understand why he was asking and didn't blame him as made evident by her amused theory of how Zak would treat such behavior. It certainly seemed to amuse Zak at least, as he admitted that Scarlett was correct in her assumption, insisting that he would rather have a battle of their skill, not stubbornness. "Heh, agreed." Scarlett nodded. She knew how hardheaded she could be, and given what she knew and experienced with Zak, a battle of stubbornness between them would be far too long and unpleasant, not to mention potentially ruining whatever sort of partnership they had going on here.
On the subject of their game, though, Scarlett deemed that she had practiced enough and was ready to start the real game. Not because she felt she could beat Zak, but she could no longer learn from him holding back against her. If she were going to have any chance at beating him, she needed to see just what she was up against. If his controlled grin and warning were anything to go by, she was going to get trounced. "Mm~ Noted." She mused. Not that she was taking his warning lightly; she began dribbling, keeping herself between Zak and the ball, as well as her eyes on him and occasionally the net, but it wasn't until she started towards the basket that Zak made a move. He stole the ball from her so fast that Scarlett's by the time Scarlett noticed she was no longer dribbling, he was already dunking the ball into the basket.
Scarlett was in shock at first, blinking and processing what just happened. She was skilled enough to see how things had played out after the fact. She simply hadn't known just how fast Zak would move. Though she had some idea by listening to his footsteps before, she hadn't been prepared to face it full on. Seeing just what she was up against though wasn't discouraging for Scarlett though, quite the opposite in fact. If this was his speed, she'd love to see how he faired against her in a little parkour run, but she needed to take one challenge at a time here. "Alright, let's go again." She insisted, starting up again. This time, she allowed herself to try and actually match his speed. It was difficult to keep control of the ball at a faster speed, so it was a struggle to keep up with Zak, but she certainly wasn't sitting still like she had been the first time. Her movements were quick, but when she fumbled the ball it slowed her down enough to provide an opening for Zak to take it. At this point Scarlett wasn't managing to even attempt any shots, as Zak was able to take the ball from her before she could manage. Scarlett never grew frustrated though, she was using this opportunity to practice a faster pace.
Eventually though, Scarlett had to take a break, grabbing her gatorade and flopping onto the concrete to catch her breath. "Damn, ya're a beast!" Scarlett laughed, taking gulping down a fourth of her drink before capping it up and sighing. "How long have ya been doin' this anyhow?" She asked curiously, since clearly he had a lot of experience under his belt.

Vandal gave Mila a large wolfish grin when she suggested he was the hero every woman needed. "Heh, well I try to be~" He agreed humbly. When he asked if she had any plans to anger him though, he.... Well, he couldn't say he was surprised to hear that Mila had the ability to easily rub people the wrong way, given her brash and irritable first impression, but it was a bit concerning. "Really? Hm.... Well, if it's any consolation, I don't feel that way." He insisted. Vandal had rather thick skin. Harsh words, insults, and threats often moved through him, he never really took them to heart. Plus, Mila was pretty nice, she was just going through a rough time, having lost her owner, so though she'd been pretty impatient and brash before, it was understandable.
Explaining some of why he needed to keep his human guise up, Fynx eventually came to understanding him, jokingly suggesting that he needed to tell her what it was like living the other half. "Honestly? I have no idea what I'm doing. For the most part my teammates act on their own because they know how to battle and are good at what they do. I only really know my own strengths and weaknesses, not really so much everyone else's. Kinda makes you respect your trainer a lot more to have memorized so many tactics...." Vandal explained quietly. Not that he had really fought under Scarlett yet, but he assumed she knew what she was doing.
Vandal couldn't help but give a small sigh when reflecting on his situation, though his unseen ear twitched when Mila seemed to notice, asking if he was okay. "Aw yeah I'm fine, just a bit tired." Vandal insisted with a lazy grin, asking for a bit more info in regards to Mila's trainer. She had been last seen at the renaissance fair, which was interesting since he and Scarlett had come there as well. "Mm it was pretty nice. I mostly just played games to help some teammates earn my trainer tokens, but it was nice being able to walk around, get a breath of fresh air. That sort of thing." Vandal nodded.

It wasn't quite the thrill of a challenge -- not yet -- but getting to move at his normal pace, getting to chase the ball and make the shots, was even better than playing by himself. This is why he made his pokemon learn how to play. It was fine to practice shots and dodge invisible opponents, but it was nothing compared to an actual body. And honestly, the reactions. He couldn't help a confident smirk when he saw her expression after his first steal. It was something some part of him had been waiting for since they decided on this little bet. Something he almost knew he'd get, and something that same part of him considered a small victory to get. Surprisingly, though... the way that she recovered from it was almost just as satisfying.
He would be lying if he said he didn't peg Scarlett as a bit of a brat. At times, at least. Obviously, though, that wasn't how he would sum her up, since he wouldn't spend any extra time with her if he did. But he did sort of consider her to have some of those qualities at times. But then there was... this. This... edge. Competition. The readiness to see difficulty and step right up to it. That was probably what he found so interesting about her; that was the allure. And to see it show up immediately, readily, here, and now...
He took a deep breath, rolled his shoulders back, and cracked his knuckles, suppressing something with a confident grin as she insisted on going once more. "Vould love to, Mishka," he complied in a low pur, striding forward and scooping the ball up to pass to her. No surprise-- he was ready when they went again, and moved just as fast. Considering just how new she was, he was actually impressed, but it certainly wasn't enough to get past him. He still wasn't sure she would be able to, not in her first try, not with him giving some effort, but still, she was clearly focused, and she was trying, and she wasn't giving up.
And... she... was stroking his ego. That helped too.
When she stopped for a break, he grabbed the ball and tossed it up, catching it with a grin before spinning it on his finger as he headed to get a drink of his own. "Couldn't say," he reiterated his answer from before, dropping the ball into his hands to set it down and grab his water. He took a drink, thinking, but this time actually followed up with an answer. "I vould say... since I vas nine, at least." He shrugged, taking another drink. "Maybe even younger." He took another, longer drink, then wiped his mouth, flashing her a grin and a gesture in her direction. "Vich is vhy I'm confident I'll vin our leetle bet. I'm eempressed, zough. You're a fast learner, Mishka," he admitted, capping his drink, "And a fast player. Perhaps after some practice, you'll be able to get past Deysatnik's defense." He gave a playful wink. "But not mine," he added, but surprisingly, it was more playful than overbearingly confident, and he grabbed up the ball to dribble back to the basket and make a few leisurely shots.

Cyrus felt a slight tinge of guilt and also relief as Apollo promised he'd keep his hands to himself. It wasn't that... he didn't want to be touched at all. It was more like he just felt embarrassed about Apollo being so close again, made more awkward by the lingering childhood crush. His reactions were so... stupid. "Thanks..." Cyrus replied to the promise with a mutter, leaving the room with Apollo.
They walked alongside each other towards the restaurant, and Apollo was the first to strike up conversation. It felt weird to be walking without his bag. Cyrus kept his hands in his pockets, eyes straight ahead even when Apollo was speaking to him. "It doesn't really matter too much to me. Though... it's getting kind of late and I'd rather not rush on through the night. It would probably be best to leave first thing in the morning." the Egyptian responded, one hand leaving a pocket to run his fingers through his cream hair. After all, he wasn't eager to cross that bridge, especially at night. Never mind that they'd have to go through pinwheel forest, too. He personally wasn't afraid of the forest at night. He just found it a very annoying and inconvenient location to be in at night.

Apollo offered the slightest of smiles in Cyrus' direction once he thanked him, adding on a nod before he turned his attention to the immediate area around them. He remained silent as Cyrus spoke, nodding absently as he suggested they start early in the morning, this worked out perfectly for him. Once that had been decided on however a silence returned and Apollo began to rack his mind for something, anything, to discuss with his friend. It wasn't usually this difficult for him to carry out a conversation with anyone, and even when he'd met up with the dark-skinned weeks before he'd been able to talk to the male with ease. Maybe he was just tired? "Hey, I've been thinking," he eventually started, turning his head to the side so that he could glance at Cyrus as he spoke. "And I think you should get back into playing the harp."
Pausing to allow this information to sink in the musician opened the door when they arrived at the restaurant, allowing Cyrus to enter before he followed. "You had a real talent for it when we were younger, I was always impressed," he admitted and then flashed a genuine smile. "Even now, I doubt I play as well as you did." Apollo stopped his convincing just long enough to request a table for two from the host who stood behind the podium. Thankfully the restaurant was relatively empty, this allowing them to be seated immediately. "I mean, of course it's up to you," Apollo continued once they'd been led to their table, and in a moment of absence-minded etiquette he pulled Cyrus' chair out for him. "But, if you were interested I could help reteach you. It'd be fun."

Mila gave a soft huff of amusement and then shook her head playfully, "well keep it up," she insisted. "The world certainly needs more of your type." Once again Mila was reminded of the other Zoroark she'd met during her time at the fair, and she smiled faintly at the brief comparison of him and Vandal; the latter certainly came out to be more favorable, at least in her opinion. The fox only gained more points when he told her that she didn't have the rather 'unfortunate effect' she had on others. "Mm, give it some time," she eventually responded, with only a hint of jest in her tone. It was nice though, and a bit of a relief really, to know that she hadn't rubbed Vandal the wrong way, not yet at least.
"Hm." Crossing her arms loosely Mila considered Vandal's words, reflecting and trying to recall the multiple battles she had been in with her trainer; they were there, just not entirely clear. "It's certainly impressive," she murmured. "I've never really thought about it. But, you're right." Mila looked over at Vandal curiously, her expression incomprehensible. "Maybe if you're forced to keep up that disguise for long you'll learn a thing or two," she suggested. He had said he'd planned to keep his illusion up for the remaining duration of their time together, perhaps he'd run into another trainer or two and be coaxed into a battle. Though... now that it was on her mind the Delphox couldn't help but to begin wondering what Vandal looked like... without the illusion. Probably like any other Zoroark, right?
As curious as a question as it was Mila wasn't so caught up that she missed the sigh Vandal emitted, even as small as it was. "You should rest more," Mila advised instantly, her go-to response to his. "If you don't get enough sleep you risk becoming sick," she continued on, and then paused. "Or getting bags underneath your eyes." And bags were just the worst, clearly. Ruining your appearance and making a pokemon look haggard. From there Mila didn't bother pressing the issue, her concerns returning back to her trainer when Vandal requested more information on the brunette. There wasn't much to tell, she'd been at a Renaissance Fair last she'd seen her, and then in an attempt to discuss more cheerful topics Mila asked Vandal about his experience there, as he'd been at the fair as well. "Oh yeah? You manage to get any medieval sweets while you were there?" Mila giggled at the question, the image of the candy-awed fox still fresh in her mind.

Scarlett was admittedly surprised that Zak seemed to be enjoying their game. While it was clear that he loved basketball, she thought it would be rather boring to play against her when she wasn't nearly as talented. It might have just been the fact that he could beat her so easily at something, but he wasn't rubbing it in her face. Well, not in an annoying way anyways. He'd made comments here and there, but they were more.... Matter of fact than boasting. He'd also performed more flashy finishers, but to blow off some energy than ego boost. It was more fun this way, it motivated Scarlett out of excitement rather than anger, which made it more fun and playfully competitive. Sure that didn't deter her from trying and continuing to improve her game, but it was interesting how he was so willing to continue, or more specifically, how he'd said he'd love to continue in that sultry tone of his. If she weren't already motivated, that certainly would have done it. With an amused smile, she took up the ball and they ran a couple more rounds before Scarlett had to take a break for some gatorade and light conversation. Though, her questions were once again answered with a 'couldn't say' and Scarlett chuckled quietly. She had a feeling he would be giving that answer a lot. She was resigned to just take it and think of something else to talk about, but soon Zak followed up with a real answer. Maybe he'd just needed some time to think.
Scarlett nodded when Zak estimated that he was about nine when he'd started playing basketball, perhaps even younger. "T'would certainly explain yar skill." Scarlett nodded. Zak elaborated further, suggesting that it was his experience that explained why he was confident that he would win. "I wouldn't be surprised ifn ya do win." She mused. "I told ya when we made that little bet, I knew I'd probably regret it cause I might lose, but....." She looked thoughtful and gave a dismissive shrug. Win or lose, she didn't really care since she was having fun. "Speaking of bets.... Didn't you say that the trip to the fair was only part of my reward...? What happened to the other part?" Scarlett asked playfully. She wasn't going to let that promise go so easily. She grinned however, when Zak complimented how fast she was learning. "Heh, thanks, but as much as I'd like to take credit, I think the main reason is I have the basic skills. Accuracy, speed, coordination, and endurance, I just never practiced them in a basketball setting." She touched a finger for each skill she listed as she gave her theory. She was a fast learner generally, but she wouldn't be this fast or good at basketball if she didn't already have a lot of experience moving quickly and aiming. Ironically, basketball used a lot of the same skills as assassination.
With that amusing thought in mind, Scarlett's mouth twitched into a smile that she tried to hold back before focusing on Zak as he suggested that she could possibly get past Deysatnik's defenses, though not his. Scarlett laughed amicably at that. "A'caurse, a'caurse." She grinned, standing and screwing the cap back on her drink, setting it aside and making her way back onto the court. She didn't make a move or ask to start up again just yet, she was enjoying the sight of Zak making his shots for the moment. "Ah, by the way, who is Deysatnik...?" She asked curiously, not quite familiar enough with Zak's team to recall them by name.

Vandal nodded dutifully as Mila told him to keep up the good work. He really wasn't a bad guy personally, he just... Didn't always do the right thing, or choose the right lifestyle. After all, it was easier for a zoroark to be used by thieves to steal and impersonate people than help run a daycare, or assist a nurse. He was amused by Mila's suggestion that she tended to rub others the wrong way, because while he could see how other pokemon could be offended by Mila's bristly nature, Vandal himself wasn't one of those pokemon. He tried to explain this fact to Mila, but the delphox jokingly suggested that he just needed to give it time. "Are you suggesting we should spend more time together?~ Because if so, I'm certainly willing to partake in this little challenge of yours." He grinned.
Since Vandal was impersonating a trainer, the two discussed what it was like for Vandal to experience "the other half", as Mila had put it. They seemed to agree that it was impressive how much a trainer had to know and learn in order to command a team of pokemon. Vandal didn't know nearly as much as he should, but thankfully his teammates were competent enough to take care of things on their own, so he didn't really have to. Still, Mila suggested that if he kept up his disguise, he might learn a thing or two, and Vandal nodded in agreement. He couldn't help but lament over his situation however, accidentally letting a small sigh escape his lips. Mila had caught it, but Vandal expertly tossed it up to how tired he was. What he hadn't expected was all the advice Mila offered him in return. "Heh, thanks, but really it's nothing like that. We're more nocturnal creatures, so I'm naturally more tired during the day. Also, ironically, we aren't very concerned about our appearances because we don't have to be, so bags under the eyes isn't a viable punishment." He pointed out.
When it was discovered that they had both come from the fair, the topic grew a bit lighter. It had been pretty fun, though Scarlett discovering him somewhat ruined it, especially since she didn't trust him enough to let him stay out with her pokemon. He could have helped more but he understood Scarlett's position. Vandal grinned however as Mila asked if he was able to get his hands on medieval sweets though. "You betcha. Ursaring claws and apple fritters galore. The mutton wasn't bad either." Vandal suggested dreamily.
His food glittered thoughts were cut off as he noticed a small black shadow dart out from the alleyway in front of them, and he quickly moved protectively in front of Mila. Damien growled and pawed at the ground, creeping towards the small cluster of trash cans it had moved into. With a snarl, he barked and sent the little black spinarak skittering out again and quickly took care of it with an iron tail. Upon finally seeing what the shadow had been and that it was now taken care of, Vandal sighed and relaxed again, giving Mila some space. "Heh, sorry. That looked a lot worse than it actually was." Vandal admitted sheepishly, though from the rustled trash cans, he spotted a disk and picked it up. "Huh, I wonder what--" The disk shimmered and then crumbled away almost as soon as he picked it up. "....Oops."

Zak couldn't help but smirk and flash her a bit of a look at her language. "'T'would' it?" he returned back with playful mockery. He spun the ball in his hand a few times, before making another shot, still listening even though he had his back to her. He did raise an eyebrow and glance back when she remarked on him winning, a bit surprised to hear such a comment. He almost lost track of the ball, but quickly moved to catch it as it started bouncing away after it made the shot, turning and giving her a curious look as she trailed off. But what? Apparently he decided not to ask-- but his quizzical expression gave the question away all the same.
He turned back to the basket to resume his shots, and gave a low, audible laugh at her question. "Sorry Mishka, I'm afraid zat opportunity has passed," he replied, moving to catch the ball. He readied another shot, before flashing her a charming smir. "But who knows, perhaps anozzer von will make etself present sometime..." He turned back and made the shot, going to catch the ball while the conversation continued. He was definitely moving at a more leisurely pace, mostly so he could keep up the conversation, but stay warmed up for when she was ready.
"Vell, I suppose zat means I should vatch out for vhen you've had more practice, hm?" he mused, giving another bit of a grin. He absently dribbled the ball around and took another few shots, listening as she got up, expecting to start again soon. He glanced over when she spoke up, though, and rather than ask for the ball, asked about the name he'd mentioned. He looked at her a moment, his expression a little ambiguous. "He's my empoleon," he answered, jerking his head back towards his bag, and turning to take another shot, "He vas following us during ze fair." He paused a moment, as that seemed to stir something in his memory.
After a moment, he turned back to her, pulling the ball back and drawing it under his arm. "Speaking uv, perhaps ve should let, vat vas it... Mako? And Ten out," he suggested casually, tooootally not somewhat hoping the older pokemon might show his some of what he knew while he and Scarlett played.
