I was watching this movie yesterday, and I kept catching things like, "naiteta/naiteita". Does this mean "was crying", or something? As opposed to "naita", which is "cried"?
This is probably a really stupid question. xP Help, please?

To all those [I'm sure] I annoyed by not noticing this sticky until pointed out:
Sumimasen. sweatdrop
On to my question:
I was on a Japanese cooking site and ran across "夏野菜のトマト煮." It looks as if she's saying, "broiled summer vegetables of tomato" which doesn't sound quite right. Anyone have any a better tanslation of it? Also, if it wouldn't be too much of a problem, please include a break down.

What does the verb suffix 'sasete' mean?/What is it used for?
(Pardon the Romaji, I'm not on my computer with the Japanese Language IME)
I heard it used as:
"Chotto kangaesasete."
Translated to Let me think about it.
I was wondering if anybody could isolate the dictionary definition (if they had verb endings in the dictionary) of 'sasete'.

Nuthin2dooo What is Goodbye in japanese? Standard is さようなら, but you can also say "じゃあ、また” which is more like See you later, or ”また、あした” which is like See you tomorrow. And then you can just say バイバイ, though with a Japanese accent, it strikes me as a bit silly.

i dont know how to approach pleople passing by to ask them something emo

I've been having a really hard time with noun modification in complex sentences in Japanese. If anyone has a way to explain it that's fairly simple, please do so! My teachers make it so complicated!

What is the Japanese equivalent of the English suffix -ness?
For example, if 赤 means red, then how would you say "redness?"

I'm gonna look into that after work today, in my local bookstores*since my current collection lacks any solid information on that*. Seishitsu is the word for the quality or characteristic of something, but there may also be a suffix*if it isn't the word itself* that's added to it. I'm definitely try and see if other books have something to say about it. I have a question of my own. What uses do 'yo' and '-tte' have, outside of the ones most beginner speakers know?

I understand the word 'doko's use a bit better now Happa wa doko desu ka? Sekai desu ka? Haha.

Hello my name is sean.I've basically no nothing of how to speak japanese,my aunt got me this japanese dictanary and this "Japanese At glance book guide".I watch a lot of anime Because they have sub titles and most of my frineds catch onto what there are saying and how they are saying it.I want to become fluent with japanese.Can someoen help me with that.Is this even the right thread for me to be askign this?I only know how to repeat japanese aniem songs,I find the english translation and sing them in japanese or english.

First of all, Anime is probably the WORST way to learn Japanese, as the translations are often horrible and they use a lot of slang. The best place to start would probably be to learn Hiragana and Katakana (Google them), and this nifty guide right here:
