February o8, 2oo6
Ice stepped up to the door of the woman whom Soho had told her about. She had a headache, an almost dead feien in her hand, and two feien sitting on her shoulders. Lord she hoped this worked.

"Push the button!" Soho said, getting off of Ice's shoulder and pushing it before Ice could do as she said.

Aude tucked the last corner of the blankets into the baby's crib and smiled. Bending over, she took the last item out of the "Baby's room" box; a small courderoy bear. She set it down at the head of the crib just as the doorbell rang.

"Just a moment!" she called out in a sing-song tone. A few quick paces landed her out in the hall, and eventually at the front foyer. Her small hands reached for the door, the latch audibly popped open, and she pulled the door towards her. The image on the other door was somewhat surprising.

Aude blinked at the woman, then realized the two feien on her shoulders and the somewhat more familiar feien in her hands. "Hello." Her flat expression morphed into a faint tone of concern. "I suppose you've come here from that address I visited yesterday. Is he doing any better?" Her eyes scanned the weak feien's skin for signs of improvement, and yet she found none. "I'll tell you anything I can remember from the other day. I hope it can help."

"I hope you can help, too." Ice said. "Can we come in? My name is Ice, these are two of my feien, Aleric--" Aleric nodded at this. "And Ruby Soho." She said. "I believe you've met her?"

"Yep, that's the lady!" Soho said.

Aude chuckled slightly at Soho's enthusiasm. "Yes, we've made eachother's aqquaintance. I was happy to find someone there who could deliver him to the proper person." As she got to the word "him", she promptly nodded in the injured feien's direction.

"I don't mean to seem inhospitable, but if you're here to thank me, there's really no need. I only did what was right, and that certainly doesn't merit a trip all the way here just to praise me for that. I would hope anyone else in the same situation would have done as I had."

Aude still stood in to door frame, the door slightly closed. She hoped she didn't seem rude.

"Actually..." Ice started out. "I'm not sure you understand." She hesitated. "This feien doesn't have someone he's going to. At least not that I know of. And I work at the feien shop. And without a bond--a gaian willing to share their life and energy with the feien, he's going to die. So basically, by leaving him at the shop you didn't help him." She said. "At all."

Aude's face went blank. "W-what?" Her head felt light at the thought. She had no intentions of harming him.

"W-well... I mean... I-I-I... I assumed that..." She couldn't find the words to say much of anything. She heaved a deep breath, looking down at the feien.

"I didn't know what else to do. You try finding some strange creature in your cellar. At least he had an address. I did what any decent person would do if they had found a name on something..." All of this talk of bonds and feiens was slightly overwhelming. She still had no idea what any of it meant. Aude just assumed that this "thing" had a home there. How or why he was in her cellar hadn't even been thought of.

"True." Ice said with a sigh. "Most likely his last bond abandoned him when he or she moved. And that means he needs a new..." She stopped, trying to think of what word would make sense. "Owner? Mother? Friend? It's kind of all those things I guess."

"Ice?" Aleric said, making Ice glance over. "Perhaps you should explain how to take care of a feien."

"Half of the time you take care of me, Aleric." Ice said, blinking. Then she looked over at Aude. "You see, feien are like... little people that can take care of themselves to a large degree. They just need to share a home with a human. It's not like a baby or anything."

Aude blinked a few times. It was beginning to make sense. "So perhaps the last owner just left him here?" This probably wouldn't go in the direction Ice or Aleric, or even Soho hoped for that matter. "Well then, maybe I can contact the real estate agent and find out who it was or where they went. Then everything would be alright. It would probably just take a few moments, or days atleast."

Aude stepped back from the door a bit and looked around for the phone in order to call the agent.

"In a few days he could be dead." Ice said bluntly. "And if they abandoned him once they could easily abandon him again." She went on. She was getting irritated. "To give him back to someone that left him in an attic is a form of abuse if you ask me. He's not a toy, he's a living being."

Aude abandoned her search for the phone. "I don't understand what you're asking of me. I've done all I can to help the situation. Can't you just find him a new bond at your headquarters then?"

Ice looked at her for a moment, wondering just how to put this politely. "Well..." She said slowly. "We were hoping that you might be his bond."

"Right!" Soho said.

"I'm afraid we can't share our own bond." Aleric said. "Three feien in one household is plenty."

Aude placed herself back in the doorframe, looking down at the feien she had found. He had been so weak. So sickly. And still, he lay there in Ice's hands, barely moving. "I... I don't..." she stammered. A tear almost came to her eyes. "I'd have no clue what to do for him. I still don't even understand what he is... I mean. How would I take care of him? What does he need? I don't undertand his life, and I certainly don't understand any of this whole ordeal. How could I possibly make a difference in his condition?"

She felt horrible admitting that she had NO clue what to do. She wanted to help in any way possible, but just thinking of taking him in scared her. What if he didn't get better. What if she screwed up somehow and he died...

"By becoming his bondmate you will save him." Aleric said calmly. When focused he was more logically driven than Ice, even though he picked up on the mixed emotions that the woman was giving off. "As a juvenile he will need a place to sleep, food, but not much, and attention. As an adult he will eat more, but still not enough to be considered a problem. He will learn magic with time and practice."

"And he'll make friends and listen to music and decide what he likes and doesn't like!" Soho said with a nod.

"I'm sure that he'll recover after you become his bond." Ice said calmly. "Feien never get sick, after all." Unless it was mental, but she wasn't about to mention that.

"Can I do that? Is it even possible? I mean, didn't you already say he had somebody?"

Aude looked at Ice, with seemingly thousands of questions in her eyes.

"By what you've told me and the looks of him now... he doesn't have anyone now." Ice said. "And that's what matters."

"Of course you can do it!" Soho said. "Feien are fun to have!"

"And if you have any questions you can go to the shop." Ice finished. "There's information there, as well as people willing to answer your questions. I'm not the only one that works there, after all."

"So..." Aleric asked hesitantly. "Will you be his bond?"

Aude's heart jumped in her chest. She wanted to help him, though she'd been trying her best to stay distant and objective. The truth was, when she first found him in the cellar her heart caved just a little at the sight of his condition. She thought taking him to the center was his best chance for survival. It seemed almost ironic to her that now, she was his best chance.

"You're sure it's alright?" she asked, her serious face cracking a relieved smile.

"Absolutely positive." Ice replied. A good bond was hard to find, and as hard as this one had fought to do the right thing (even though it wasn't the right thing, really) she would fight to make sure her feien was well taken care of. "I'll just need your name and the information you gave Soho, so I can report it to the shop." She finished.

"Oh good!" Soho said, jumping to her feet. "I want to see him when he's feeling better!"

Aleric smiled, relaxing.

Aude blushed a teeny bit. "Forgive me for being so rude and not introducing myself. I suppose we got caught up in all this and I--" She cut herself off. "Eh, no matter..."

She extended a hand to Ice and a smile broke completely loose. "I'm Audespero. I don't really have a last name or anything. It's kinda complicated, so that's a story for another day. But pretty much anyone who knows me will know who you're speaking of when you ask for "Aude"."

She paused to gather her words. "If it's really what's best for him..." She glanced down at him, still very much concerned. "Then i'll definatley take him in."

The feien's mouth parted, and a raspy tone escaped. "I'm.... glad..." He slowly sat up and braced himself half-assedly, propping a weak arm behind himself. His balance waivered.

Soho squealed as Ice shook the hand. "He's getting better already!" She said, hopping up and down on Ice's shoulder. "Now you need to get lots of rest and brush your hair and--"

"Soho." Aleric said, trying to hide his amusement. "Perhaps we should leave them to get to know each other better."

"Oooh... good point." Soho said.

"Aude-Spero..." Ice repeated as she pulled out a pen and jotted it down on the note. "Aleric's right, though." She said. "Perhaps you two should get to know each other now. Figure out where he'll be sleeping... what his name is..."

Aude reached her hand out for the feien, shaking slightly with excitment and a tad of nervousness.

Ice handed him over with a knowing smile. "It gets easier with time." She said softly. "Soon you'll forget that there was a time when he wasn't there."

Aude felt a slight spark of---well, something---as soon as Donovan's body slightly weighted her hand. Either way, it just felt better knowing that everything was all figured out, and that he would hopefully be alright.

The feien looked up at Aude. His sight was so blurry that she was just barely an outline of messy shapes and colors. "Thank you for accepting me..." His voice cracked several times on each word and he leaned back into her palm.

"Yeah." Ice said with a smile. "We'll leave you two alone for now."

"Bye, mister!" Soho called with a wave.

"And thank you." Aleric added to Aude. "Each bonded feien brings a better chance at the survival of our race." He said as Ice turned to walk away.

"Goodbye!" Aude chimed as she waved them off.

Donovan looked at Soho and the others, his mouth parting but no sound escaped. He mouthed "Thank-you" and curled back up in Aude's palm.

Valentine's Once Again
Aleric and Silva flew towards Sajhiri's house, carrying the roses that Ice had insisted they BOTH get. Aleric hadn't minded. Silva had. But he wasn't about to b***h, not when the rose came with thorns as big as his hands. It struck him as... fitting.

They dropped down on the railing around the porch, situating the roses before Aleric headed for the door to announce that they were there. "Maybe we should check the garden first..." He said, hesitating.

"You think?" Silva asked.

The garden was empty for once. The chill of the February winds seemed to have chased even the normally hearty Arae indoors. The windows of the tower were decorated with hearts in shades of red, pink, and white.

Inside, Sajhiri was holding a romance films marathon with the Menagerie, and the dulcet tones of Audrey Hepburn echoed through the hallways. Averno grumbled to Arae, both perched on the arm of a couch, "Breakfast at Tiffany's? How many bloody Hepburn movies does she have?"

Arae smiled in amusement and murmured back "Oh let's see, Roman Holiday, My Fair Lady, Sabrina..." she began ticking off titles on her fingers, unaware that her beau and Averno's were on the porch.

They took to the air, heading for the garden only to stop as they didn't feel the familiar magic signatures. "I guess they are inside, after all." Aleric said with a sigh.

"Thorns digging into your a**, too?" Silva asked.

"Crassly put, but accurate." Aleric said. "I'm not sure why people consider these flowers romantic... they seem quite dangerous to me." He headed once again to the door, pushing the doorbell once. "I hope we're not interrupting anything..."

Averno was only too happy to volunteer to answer the door, so the rest of the myriad creatures in the living room didn't have to miss a moment of the romantic schmoozy ick. She beat a hasty retreat down the hall and peered out the window. Seeing the roses, then Aleric and Silva, she groaned and opened the door.

"Not you guys too. What is it with Gaia and this whole 'Force people to pay for your affections' holiday?" She gestured the pair inside. "Come in, it's cold out there, and you deserve to be subjected to chick flicks as much as we do."

"Can't stay long." Silva said before Aleric could reply. There was no way in hell he was going to watch chick flicks. It was like inviting him to burn his eyes with a lighter. "But Ice insisted we get these damn things..." He paused, holding out the rose that was as tall as he was. "Damn things that have thorns." He said with a hint of a grin.

"Is Arae here?" Aleric asked.

Averno accepted the rose with a grin. "Flowery weaponry, you know me so well..." she purred at Silva. She even deigned to give his ear a nibble for it. "Maybe this holiday doesn't entirely suck afterall. Let me go grab Arae."

She zipped down the hall to retrieve her sister and in a few moments time, the green-haired ancient arrived. Her face lit up upon seeing Aleric. "How thoughtful of you to come visit on such a sweetly romantic holiday, beloved!"

Averno rolled her eyes over the air Feien's shoulder and moved back over to Silva's side. "I bet I could set that under one of the Talaye's rumps and measure how high they jump when they sit on a thorn..." a mischevious grin lilted on her lips.

Silva just smirked in response, leaning back slightly and looking over at her. "Remember last Valentine's Day?" He asked softly. "With the cookies?"

Aleric bowed and held out the rose. "Be careful of the thorns, my love. They're quite..." He glanced over at the two other feien for a brief second. "Sharp."

Averno raised the thorny rose threateningly. "Oh, don't even bring that up, red! I almost ruined my girlish figure with those things." She laughed. "Those were the days..."

Arae smiled and accepted the rose. "Oh, have no fear Aleric, I know my way around flowers of all varieties. I've a great love of them, and it's a ebautiful speciment. Thank you!" She leaned in to kiss his cheek.

Aleric flushed slightly, grinning at her crookedly. "I hoped you would like it. Ice found a small shop on the strip that had all sorts of flowers, but this was the only one close to your beauty."

Silva snickered. "I told you that would happen." He said, not padding the truth one ounce. "At least it was funny as hell to watch."

Averno smirked and tugged on one of Silva's ears. "Hey, they were good cookies. Mostly I was just trying to wipe out all traces of the gooey sentimental messages on them since Sajhiri had put that notice that they were from me. I'm am anything but gooey and sentimental." She harumphed indignantly.

Arae blushed slightly at the compliment from Aleric. "You are too kind, and sweeter and more beautiful to me than you can know. I do have something for you for the holiday...wait here a moment." Arae cocked her head towards Averno. "Should I get your gift for him as well?" she asked.

Averno shook her head. "Nah I'll get it, it might hurt you..." With a wing to her beau she flitted off down a side hall with Arae, calling over her shoulder "be right back!"

"If it's a dragon we're turning and leaving the moment she gets out." Silva said softly as they got out of hearing distance.

"What?" Aleric asked.

"I don't like dragons."

"Oh."

Arae came back down the hall with a cute plushie bear with a sweet but cryptic sentiment on it's tummy, a shade of purple to complement Aleric's markings. "for you, my love..." she beamed.

Averno came back with a plushie too...sort of. It was plush and fuzzy, but about as cuddly as Silva. A snarling werewolf plushy with it's fangs menacing a cute bunny plushie hanging onto a heart shaped balloon. "Nothing says 'I wanna snog like carniverous predators...eh?" she quipped.

Silva almost choked on his toothpick. "That's one thing it could say..." He agreed dryly. "The bunny, it for when he gets hungry?"

"It's very cute, Arae. It will add a lovely jolt of color to my terrarium." Aleric said with a smile. "Thank you."

Averno grinned. "He reminded me of you, what can I say. Red and bristly, sharp teeth, and a lover of bunnies, albeit more of the Playboy variety in your case."

Arae moved in to embrace Aleric warmly. "The color reminded me of you. It cuddled it last night, but it was a poor substitute for the real thing."

Silva laughed out loud this time. Just a short laugh, but still a laugh. "I'll remember that one." He said before reaching for her. Automatically he put his toothpick behind his ear, a habit of long standing when he was about to kiss someone.

Aleric's smile widened and he reached for her hands, flushing slightly. "Happy Valentine's Day, my love. I wish I could have taken his place, as well." He said before leaning forward to press a sweet kiss to her lips.

Arae merrily accepted the kiss from Aleric, the air feien being quite the romantic.

Averno picked up on Silva's telltale indicator. She remarked, "Remind me to play poker with you sometime...you've got some pretty discernible tells..." She leaned in to plant one on him.

"Only when I'm about to get lucky." Silva drawled before kissing her back.

Aleric held the kiss for a few moments, then reluctantly pulled away. "I'm afraid we must be going, my love. The family requires we spend some time together today. But you will come over sometime and meet Ice's new children?"

Arae smiled as Aleric pulled away, and she nodded at his request. "Of course, I'd be delighted! And give Soho a hug for me in the spirit of the holiday."

Averno groaned against Silva's lips as Aleric mentioned leaving. "Always when it's just getting good. Ah well. I'll tag along when Arae drops by, maybe we can find some alone time then, Red."

"The kid's a pain in the a**." Silva commented with a nod as he pulled his toothpick out from behind his ear. "Keeps trying to grab me. But yeah, come on over sometime."

"I would be happy to." Aleric said with a smile. "Farewell, my love." He added as he took to the air. "It was good to see you again." Without the flute. But that comment was left unsaid.

Averno swatted at Silva's backside with a grin as the brother's headed out, and she rolled her eyes at Arae's mooning expression. "Sheesh, how long were you alone anyway? You'd think every time he left you were never going to see him again."

Arae grimaced at the words and broke out of her reverie. "Twas a long time, sister. A very long time. One never knows if this moment might be the last. So live like it is." The ancient turned and drifted back to rejoin the family and watch love stories.

Averno quirked a brow at her retreating co-bonded and murmured, "The girl just ain't riiiight".

The next few days grew abruptly colder, degrees in the single digits sent the family inside, cuddled around heaters and huddled under blankets. The feien had set up camp in Aleric's terrarium, much to Silva's irritation, with a blanket draped over the top.

Nick and Nack cuddled together in the corner, watching the others silently. Ever since the cupcake incident, when Silva had almost killed Nick, they had stayed quiet. It was unnatural for the two, and Silva was starting to worry. A slight frown pulled at Silva's lips as he glanced up from his hentai manga. The two looked away.

Soho had an ipod and a set of speakers set up in another part of the terrarium, and she was looking out the glass as she listened to the music, watching silently as the three human sized females tried to put Walter into the new bed Ice had bought him. This was his room now, painted blue with white clouds, with white accents. But the baby didn't seem very happy about it. She frowned slightly as he let out a wail. Babies were more trouble than they were worth. Even if they had gotten this one for free.

She glanced over at Silva, then followed his eyes to Nick and Nack, breaking into a grin at the sight of the two boys. "Dance with me!" She said as she headed to the two, grabbing their hands and hauling them to their feet. She pulled them back to the ipod, earning startled smiles from the two as she started to dance. "Aleric! Join us!" She called.

Aleric look up from the book he was reading, then headed forward, joining in the wild, flipping, kicking martial arts that the boys called dancing. Soho playfully tried to imitate them, falling on her bottom several times.

Ice glanced up from where she was trying to calm Walter down, smiling slightly at the sight of the feien and animal boys dancing. Then she glanced over at Kisa. "Hang the blankets over the windows, and get the room heater. We'll put it in the corner. But it's getting too cold in my room for him to stay there."

"You could close the window and leave a sign for Patrick?" Jade offered.

"He can't read." Ice said with a sigh. "I'll hang something over it, but I won't close it. I hope he's okay in this cold weather..."

Walter wasn't happy, not one bit. A new room and new clothes, and a new bed, and--It was overwhelming and far too much abrupt change for him. Especially the fact that he was cold. It had been so long since he'd been cold, and now he was once again. He didn't like cold, almost as much as he didn't like being hungry. And they expected Oblivion to stay on the ground? Oh no, he didn't think so!

His wailing got louder and he shook his tiny fists angrily. Oblivion's eyes were red as she bunted her head against the back of Ice's leg, once, twice, until Ice yelped and looked down at the metailic creature. "And now you've got a problem, too?" She asked with a sigh.

But before she could do anything about it, Kisa reached down, picking up Oblivion and putting her into the bed with him. "Don't you think that's a little..." Ice stopped as Walter wrapped one sleepy arm around Oblivion's neck. "Okay... fine. Now we're ready for bed, right?" She asked as she tugged the blanket over both babies. She hoped that Walter wasn't cut on any sharp parts of Oblivion.

"I know you probably don't like all these changes." She said as she tugged his hat off and put it on the pillow above his head. "But it's too cold in my room right now, baby. You'll be warmer here."

"Maybe you should sleep in here, too, Momma." Jade said as Kisa plugged in the room heater and flicked the switch. "You'll be warmer."

"I'm fine." Ice said. She was about to go on when a knock sounded from the front door. It was loud, as if the person was pounding his fist against it. All three females jumped and Silva took to the air, shoving the blanket out of the way so he could escape the terrarium.

Ice headed for the front room, a frown on her face. "Who would be coming over at this time of night?" She asked. "Patrick wouldn't knock on the front door, and I can't think of anyone from the feien--"

She peered through the peephole on the door as her hand hovered over the door lock. There was someone standing there, wrapped from head to toe in winter wear. It was a tall person, most definitely male. He stopped slamming his fist against the door, as if he knew she was on the other side.

"Momma?"

"I'm not sure." Ice replied with a frown.

"It's freezing out here!" The muffled shout came from the wrapped up man. "Let me in!"

"Let him freeze." Silva said. "We don't know him."

"It's true... letting a strange man into the house is probably--" Jade started out.

"C'mon, Ice. Let me in already!"

Ice went perfectly still.

"Momma? Do you know him?" Jade asked.

"Baby? I want you to go to the back bedroom." Ice said through numb lips. "Silva--"

"Like ******** I'm leaving."

"Then disappear." Ice said. Silva almost argued. But he nodded and drifted back slightly, fading into the shadows that were his elements. Ice had forgotten about him by then. There was only one thought in her mind.

She had to protect her babies.

"Dammit Ice!" The male shouted again. "Open this damn door!"

"Go away, Shade! We don't need your type in this dimension!" She said coldly.

"That's too ******** bad, baby. Because I'm here to stay." The door started to glow and split down the center slowly, as if it were a curtain being parted. And the male stepped in through the hole. It closed behind him with a jerk.

He pulled off his gloves with an irritated motion, then unwrapped the scarf around his face. His face was as pure black as Ice's was white, save for two white streaks from his eyes to his chin. His long, lizard like tail snapped behind him, spattering snow onto the floor.

"What... in the hell... is he?" Silva demanded.

"A professional killer." Ice said blandly.

"You've got some screwed up taste in friends, Ice."

"You're telling me." Ice muttered. She squared her shoulders, looking at the intruder, ready to fight. "You're not getting near my babies, Shade."

"I've missed you, too, love." Shade said dryly. "What? No kiss hello?"

Then Walter wailed once again, making both of them jerk and turn.

Shade was the first to react. He blinked. "Now that's one thing I never expected to hear around you." He said, heading for the back room where the cry had come from. Ice panicked.

"What do you want, Shade?" She asked. "Whatever it is, take it and go. But don't--"

"I want to see what's crying." Shade replied. "And I want to know who you replaced me with to get it."

"She said you can't go back there." Silva said, moving to float in the air in front of the male. He was chewing on his toothpcik with a scowl. Shade stopped, looking at him blankly for a moment.

"What the hell are you?" He asked incredulously. He raised a hand, running it through the air above Silva's head, then through the air underneath him. "Not a puppet..." He said, thoughtfully. "Not quite a bat..." He paused, peering closer. "Are those scales?"

"Dammit, Shade, would you just leave me alone?" Ice demanded. "I told you--" She stopped. "What are you really here for?" She asked. "Tell me, Shade. Who were you really sent here for?"

He turned, giving her a grin that didn't quite reach his blood red eyes. "You don't think it was for you?" He asked. "I've missed you, Ice."

"But that's not why you're here." She replied. Her eyes were cold. "You're here on a job, aren't you? You've been hired by someone... to kill someone on Gaia, haven't you?"

"Pleasure and business work well together." He replied with a shrug. "I took the job because I heard you were in the area. Now... let's go see the kid." He walked past Silva, swatting him aside as if he were a fly. Ice grabbed the irate male feien before he could attack.

"No." She said. "Not this time."

"Dammit, Ice--" Silva growled.

"If I let you see my child... will you leave Gaia?" She asked Shade. "I don't love you anymore, Shade. I'm not sure I ever did."

"If I believed you, your words would wound me." Shade replied as he headed down the hall.

"You should believe me." Ice said. "You're a killer, Shade. Your hands are covered in blood. And I'm a mother now. Those two things don't go together."

"That's where you're wrong, baby." He said as he reached for the handle of Walter's door. "Without life you wouldn't have death." He opened the door, pausing for a moment at the sight that greeted him.

Aleric and Soho floated in the front. Soho looked nervous and uncertain, glancing over at Silva for an explanation. But Aleric had picked up on this intruder's emotions, and he knew.

Shade was far more angry than he sounded. And most of it was directed at that baby hidden behind their backs.

"Momma?" Jade asked. She and Kisa stood shoulder to shoulder, blocking the view of the baby bed. "Who is this man?"

"Just an old... friend, baby. He wants to see Walter." Ice said through numb lips. If only she could make him want to go away...

"No... No, I don't think we should." Jade said, shaking her head. "I don't think we should let him see Walter."

"I'm afraid you've got no choice, kid." Shade said. "I'm not leaving until I do."

"Let him..." Ice said. "If he hurts my babies... I'll just have to kill him."

"Momma, how--"

Kisa pulled her aside, stopping the question before it could be asked. Shade looked at them for a moment, then stepped forward, peering silently down into the baby bed. A startled noise left his lips as he broke into a grin.

"Shade--"

"This..." He said as he awkwardly lifted the boy into the air. "Is definitely not your kid." He finished. "Hey there, little buddy. Just how did Ice find a kid like you, huh?"

"I found him in a back ally." Ice said reluctantly, shaking her head as Walter broke into a grin and started jabbering away. "Along with his... friend."

"What is he?" Shade asked.

"I'm not sure. But you promised, Shade. You said you would leave."

"No I didn't." He said as he pulled the baby closer. "It's too damn cold."

Things were awkward, to say the least. Ice stared at Shade for a moment, wishing she could pull her baby from his grasp, and at the same time...

"Put him down, Shade." She said.

"Huh? Why? The kid likes me!" Shade replied, bouncing the boy once on his hip to get a better grip on him. "Isn't that right?"

"He's a baby. He hasn't developed taste yet." Silva drawled.

"You can sleep in my room." Ice said before Shade could reply. "It's this way." She reached out, taking Walter from his arms and putting him back into his bed with Oblivion before leading Shade away.

"I've waited too damn long to hear those words." Shade replied. He followed her into her room, glancing around and shivering slightly. "A bit... cold, isn't it?" He headed for the cracked window, blinking as her tail whipped out and slapped his hands.

"Don't touch the window." She told him. "Don't ever touch that window."

"You're kidding me, right? It's ten degrees out there! I'm freezing my a** off! And you want to leave the window open?"

"Yes. I do."

"You've gotten seriously confusing in the last few years." He said.

"It's more important than being cold. It's a matter of trust. But you wouldn't understand that, now would you?" She asked. She turned, heading for the strange closet door. It was a door that led to somewhere different every time it was opened, almost. But he was distracted just enough not to notice.

"Here, you can take a warm shower in my bathroom." She said. "It'll make it feel less cold in here."

"Good point." Shade said. "I do want to smell my best." He reached for the door handle, pausing right beside her and leaning down. Ice gulped, unable to stop looking into his eyes as he whispered against her lips. "I've missed you, love..."

"Tell me, Shade... who?"

"Huh?"

"Who are you here for? Really? Your... job?"

"Oh, just a cheap little mechanic. She's been doing jobs that some... businesses want to do for more money." He paused, digging in his pocket and pulling out a piece of paper. "Name's... Trin... Trinityblue."

Ice jerked, then reached down, turning the door handle for him and slamming him through the opening. He stumbled, unprepared for the assault, and fell face first into the sea on the other side of the door.

"Don't you DARE come back." Ice shouted before slamming the door shut. She leaned her forehead against the cool wood, taking a deep breath to try and calm her heart.

Because Trinityblue... was her sister.

"Ice?" Aleric's voice barely reached her. "Ice, are you okay?"

"No... No I'm not." She said. "But I will be." A single tear crept slowly down her cheek as he reached up and wiped it away. "Sooner or later." She felt his warm body leaning gently against her neck. But she didn't say anything. "He'll come back. He never leaves a job unfinished."

"We'll be ready for him, then."

"I sure hope so."

"Saint Patrick's Day." Silva announced. "The only ******** holiday that I like." Then he paused. "Well New Year's Eve isn't too bad, either..."

"Are you going to explain why?" Aleric asked from where he was sitting a few inches away, reading a book. He, Silva, Soho and Nick and Nack were lounging next to Ice's open window on the hiope chest. Silva was working out and Soho was reading a magazine called "Teen Something."

"The alcohol." Silva said as he did another press. "We're getting shitfaced tonight."

"I was afraid it was something like that." Aleric replied.

"I've never been shitfaced..." Soho said innocently. "Is it fun?"

"Darlin, it's the best."
*************************

That night half empty bottles surrounded them, the TV was playing Silva's favorite movie, Kill Bill 1, and everyone except Nack was passed out cold. It was barely 11:00.

"The best." Nack said, shaking his head and starting to clean up. "Riiiight."

The steady rapping of staff against staff filled the air, a thudding sound followed as Silva's staff slammed into Aleric's side, tossing him a foot to the right. "Focus, old man." Silva said, waiting impatiently for Aleric to stand.

Aleric nodded and headed back to his brother, assuming the fighting position once again. He didn't say a word. There was no point to talking when Silva was in one of these moods. He merely started the spar again, tap, tap, tap, wood against wood, a block here, a block there. He had gotten faster since he had shown up, but so had Silva. It was like fighting a force of nature.

But he had been sparring with that force since as long as he could remember.

"Nick! Nack! Get the damn water ready!" Silva shouted, not daring to look away from Aleric.

"Sure thing, boss!" Nick shouted, sliding down the string and racing out of the room. There hadn't been a spar like this one since before the cupcake incident. It was like watching a dance they had forgotten a long time ago.

Soho watched silently, her chin propped on the palm of her hand. She was sitting on the stereo, her legs hanging, kicking the air just slightly. She was a bit bored, actually. This fighting was all well and good, but she preferred others to do her fighting for her. She was the baby, after all.

Of course, she was faster than both males. But she wasn't tough enough to last a fight, even then. If one of the staffs were to hit her, it would shatter one of her bones. But still... she kind of wondered why Silva had never taught her self defense. Were all feien as strong as he and Aleric were?

Silva was ignorant of what his little girl was thinking. His heart was pounding, and his usual smirk was wide. This... damn but he had missed this. "Kick it up, old man! If I think you've been slacking I'll make it so you can't walk for a month!"

"Got the water boss!" Nick called as he dropped the stick that had the two bottle cap buckets hanging from them.

"Good. Time for a break." Silva said, blocking Aleric's last blow and lowering their staffs. He turned and headed for his own cap, picking it up and overturning it, directly over his head. Aleric did the same, only then taking the time to speak.

"I have... missed this." Aleric said.

Silva grunted and ran a hand over his face. Then he turned, motioning to Soho. "C'mere, darlin. It's your turn."

"Wh--what?" Soho asked. Her eyes were wide in shock.

"Don't make me say it twice, girl." Silva said. "It's long past time we started on your training. I've been too ******** lax for your own good."

"But Mister Silva Demon--" She said, looking close to tears. "I'm not a fighter!"

"You're living in my house, darlin." He started out. "You're damn well going to know how to protect yourself. Especially with all the s**t you get into."

"Silva..." Aleric said softly. "Perhaps sparring isn't how you should begin. Her speed is good, it's her strength that needs work."

Silva glanced over at his brother, fingering his toothpick thoughtfully. "Good point. Boys, get me some girl weights."

Nack spoke up. "I'm sure I can think of something, boss." He put down his notepad and scampered off to find things they could use as weights.

"Thanks." Silva muttered. Nack went still for a moment, shocked by the word, then nodded and raced off. He wasn't about to comment on the first thanks he had ever gotten from Silva. But that didn't mean he wouldn't remember it.

"But Silvaaaa--" Soho whined.

"And tonight you're going hunting." Silva said coldly. "I'll be damned--"

"Most likely." Aleric inserted.

"If my little girl is a pansy." Silva finished, trying not to be amused. "But don't worry. I think you'll like it."

Soho pouted, kicking her feet again.

There is a small, Feien-sized envelope pushed under the door. It is addressed to 'Ruby Soho.' Inside is a small letter.

The Note
Dear Soho,

I am going into the TERRIBLE WILDERNESS etc etc on an awful quest like Indiana Jones. Burgundia says I may die. This would leave you a widow (not sure). There are widows on the soap operas I watch. They cry a lot and then they have sex with the brother! I don't have a brother. I guess I don't know what you'll do if I die. Anyway, I leave you my collection of lip glosses and glitter sticks and my totally real cubic zirconia that Rose gave to me, because you are my girlfriend, only if anyone asks please bury me with my strawberry soap. I would come and romantically take your innocence and we could make out only I'm in a hurry. Let's watch the movie about gay cowboys when I get back, I hear they Do It. We can eat gummy snakes.

I made you this romantic broken heart necklace and I'll wear the other half. I made it out of modelling clay I put in the oven with Rose's help and with beads! It's totally bitching if I do say so myself. Dee says that it is totally crunchy and hopes you never wear it but what does she know.

I hope you wear it. If I die people can say, 'Where's the other half of the necklace' and you can say, 'on my dead girlfriend' and they'll look all sad. That's what happens in soap operas. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to die. I mean, you met a bear and didn't die, that's pretty awesome.

Rock on!!!

Love,
Marne
XOXOXOXOXOXO

Soho stumbled into the house as the sun cracked over the sky. She was exhausted. She didn't even have enough strength left to walk. She dropped down on the hope chest, breathing in pants and feeling tears pull at her eyes.

"Darlin..." Silva said as he landed next to her. He glanced down with a slight twitch of his eyebrow. "Your stamina's gotten better at least."

"Mister Siiillllvvaaa Deeemooonnn!" She whimpered.

"Yeah, yeah." He muttered finally leaning over and scooping her up into his arms. "Let's get you to bed." He finished as he flew off to her glass room. He laid her down, not even noticing the letter and necklace that lay next to her blanket.

Soho fell into an exhausted sleep.
***********************

It was almost night again when she woke. She was hungry and grumpy, so she sat up and rubbed her eyes for a moment before looking around. The note caught her attention and she picked it up, reading it twice just to make sure she understood. At first she hadn't known who was writing.

"Marne is going into the forest?" She finally said, her eyes wide. She got her energy back quickly, racing into the air and nearly tacking Silva. "Marne is going to the forest!"

Silva blinked. "Huh?"

"Marne!"

"Who?"

"MARNE! My girlfriend? Marne! She's going all alone! And she might die!"

"Oh."

"We have to do something!"

"...Like?"

Soho's mind went blank. "I think I need to go read another romance book." She finally said. "I keep forgetting what happens after this part."

"Yeah, you do that." Silva told her as he went back to lifting his weights. Females were so strange...

Aleric thought about saying something... really he did. But he had just finished a quest himself. As had his lady love and her sister. Hopefully nothing too life endangering would happen to the girl. Because there was no way that they could find her in as large a world as this one.

Soho spent the rest of the day searching through her collection of cheesy romances on the computer. Of course by the time she was halfway through the first one she had forgotten what she was looking for.

"Ooooh, that's so romantic!! I wish I had a boyfriend!"

All in the Family
Okay, so, she got a Feien. A little person that would be her responcablity and under her care. Someone that she hoped would help her in the shop, when it was time to introduce her to that shop, anyway.

Now what?

Trin picked up the phone, dialing Icey's number. Her sister needed to know of this. Especially if she wanted to introduce her feien's.

The phone clicked as someone pulled it off the hanger. But it seemed to take a little bit longer than usual, and the voice that answered was definitely not Ice's.

"What the hell do you want?" Silva's voice rasped coldly.

Trin blinked until the voice regestered. "Oh, hello Silva! This is Aunt Trin, where's Ice?" She asked, a small smirk pulling on her lips.

"Hell if I know. Think she and the old man went to the bookstore or something." He said. He had propped the phone up so he could lounge next to it comfortably, chewing on his toothpick.

"Hey, Ice said something about you getting a feien. You got him yet?"

"Her. And yes, she arrived shortly after I got my letter." It figures Ice knew, she worked at the shop. "Um, wasn't I to go and pick her up? She came to my house on her own." She then asked, not really expecting Silva to know.

"She got to your place didn't she? She must have gotten your address from somewhere." He said, not sounding too bothered by it. "Just what we need, another little girl." He muttered almost to himself.

"Another little girl?" Soho asked, appearing out of seemingly no where. "Really? Is she cute?"

"I don't think she'd like to be called cute, Soho." Trin answered, grinning now at the other girl's voice. "According to the letter I received, she seems to be a part of a small group who decided to transfer to Gaia." She told them.

"But I'd love for her to meet all of you."

"A group?" Silva asked.

"Like a play group?" Soho asked. "Or a party?"

"Just what aren't you telling us, TB?" Silva asked, already sensing something strange from her tone of voice.

"Um.... More like a gang who's plotting to take over the world, type of group. They were even classified as a medium security risk?" She offered up, rather hasitly. "And she's a little more.... dominating than I'm used too."

Oh yeah, a group who plans to get powerful. Though Silva might enjoy that fact...

Silva choked. Then he burst into laughter.

"Ooooh, sounds fun!!" Soho said.

A little smile twitched at the corner of her lips with their reaction. It oddly made her feel better. "I think I should keep her out of my shop for a while, what do you think?"

Silva stopped laughing slowly, curious. "You think she could pull it off?" He asked. "What's she like? Other than dominating?"

"If she's Aunt TB's feien, that makes her my cousin!!" Soho said cheerfully. She loved having family.

"Yes Soho, that would make her your cousin." TB answered the little one first, then thought things over.

"Well.. she seems nice enough. A bit on the bossy side and so far likes to do things on her own. It's also like she's hiding stuff from me, too." Which she wasn't about to doubt.

Huh... Silva fell silent for a moment, looking thoughtful. "Want me to knock some sense into her?" She belonged to TB, thus, she was Silva's. It was as simple as that in his mind.

"Mister Silva Demon! You can't do that! She's a little girl!" Soho said, glowering at him with her fists on her hips.

Trin went quiet a moment, thinking some things over. "Well, that depends on her." She said slowly. "If she wants to get more powerful, you are diffently the Feien she should turn to for that." As scarry as it could sound.

Being knocked around equalled fight training in her mind. Besides, as scarry as Silva was, she doubted he was into randomly hitting girls without a good reason.

"Darlin', you don't seem to understand." Silva said calmly. "But hell, why not? We'll meet your little girl."

"Yay!" Soho said hopping up and down. "I was starting to get lonely. My girlfriend is off battling against the wild, you know."

Silva twitched. "Thank God."

TB choked on a laugh about that. "So, you want to hang out with another little girl while she's away?" She asked, grinning on the other side of the phone. Some how, that was just funny to her.

In truth, she had no real idea what Silva meant, but someone, it might be good for her. This wasn't the Fleet, but that didn't mean things would be eaiser for her to have her way.

"Of course!" Soho said. "I'm sure Marne will want to meet her when she gets back, too!" And kiss her, too. But hey, it happened. "What's her name? What's she look like? Does she had two eyes or three, like me? Is she pretty?"

"Why the hell did it have to be a girl?" Silva asked.

"Because I thought I'd be able to handle a girl better than a boy." TB answered him planly. But Varia was more of a tomboy than a real girly girl. Though that was a good thing in her opinion.

"Well, her name's Bavaria. She has blue and while circle markings, cloth wings, and really short red, curly hair. Two eyes, both purple." She answered. She was also pretty in a rough sortta way.

"Short hair?" Soho said, disappointment lacing her voice. "Aww. Can't do anything with short hair..."

"Yeah, alright." Silva muttered. "She there?"

"Heh, yeah, tell me about it." Trin said dryly, though any longer and it would be like a fro. Did Feien even have strightening irons? Then she glanced around. "Hold on, let me see if she's in the other room." She said, then set the phone down, though the muffled sound of her called for the feien could still be heard.

Then it stopped and the phone was picked up. "Um.... she's not here and I have no freaking clue where she's gone. I'll call you back... as soon as i fugre out where the hell she's gone off too!" Her voice was a mix of worry and anger, even a bit of dissapointment. She did not want to have to put a tracing spell on the girl.

The phone was hung up with a click.

"Well damn." Silva muttered. Just what he needed. Another pain in the a** to take care of.

Soho just pouted.

"We've been turned into ******** babysitters." Silva growled as he dropped down on the plush toy couch. "If it's not one brat here, it's another there. Did you know our new 'Cousin' comes complete with a gang?"

"By the sounds of what you've told me, it's not too much of a problem." Aleric said calmly. He was lying on his stomach reading one of Ice's fantasy books. He really did need to get to the library before it closed sometime.

'Yeah, nothing too big." Silva said as he picked up the miniature whisky bottle and took a drink. It was larger than Soho, which helped alleviate his bitchy mood. Somewhat. "But dammit, do you know how long it's been since I've had time to get some tail?"

"Averno and Arae are busy right now. You know that."

"Who says it has to be Averno?" Silva muttered darkly. It earned him an amused look.

"You're not one to cheat on a relationship." Aleric said.

"...Dammit."

"I wish I hadn't missed Galatea's visit..." Aleric went on, fingering the beaded necklace that hung from his neck.

"Where's Soho?" Silva asked.

"She's attempting to write a letter." Aleric said as he turned the page of his book. He was grateful that his eyesight was so good. The pages were taller than he was. "Something about her girlfriend needing moral support."

"That's another thing." Silva complained. "When in the hell did my little girl become a psuedo lesbian?"

"Psuedo?" Aleric repeated, honestly surprised. Not by the word itself, but by the fact that Silva appearently knew what it meant.

Silva snorted, not about to mention his latest hentai manga, Psuedo Fox and the Boing Boings. "If she was going to chase after another skirt, it could at least be someone not so damn insane..."

"You have a suggestion?" Aleric asked, his amusement showing on his face in a little grin. Sometimes when Silva got into these moods it was funnier than hell. Not that it happened often.

Silva fingered his toothpick for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah. Galatea. Kid's a little... fragile, but at least she doesn't snog every living person she sees."

Aleric laughed, earning a dark look from his brother. "What?" Silva asked.

"You're just asking for a fight again." Aleric said.

"With Galatea? Why in the hell would I want that?"

"You tried to goad one of Bavaria's friends into a fight, right?"

"He needed a kick to the a**." Silva muttered.

"Silva..." Aleric said slowly. "Are you starting to feel your age again?"

"..." Silva's teeth clamped on the toothpick, almost breaking it in half. "I'm starting to feel like a..." He stopped, his eyes narrowing even with the thought.

"An old man?" Aleric offered.

"Dammit, I'm still in good shape." Silva growled.

"True."

"I'm a hell of a lot faster and stronger than any of those juvenile shits." He went on.

"Very true."

"And almost two isn't that old..." He went on.

"Of course it's not." Aleric agreed.

"Oh, ******** it." Silva said, getting to his feet. "Nick! Nack! Get one of those damn cherries. I feel like a game of soccer."

"Sure thing, Boss!" Nick shouted.

"I'm so glad we could solve the problem." Aleric said with a tiny little smirk.

"Shut up, jackass." Silva muttered as he headed out the window. "We've got a game to play."

Girlfriends
Soho fluttered up the stairs and into the waiting room. She had a slight frown on her face as she glanced over her shoulder at Aleric. The adult feien looked back patiently, not sure just what she was looking for, or if she was looking for something in particular at all.

"Soho?" He asked softly.

"I um..." She paused, frowning slightly and wishing she knew. "Do you think they got their gifts yet?"

"I'm sure they'll contact you, Soho."

"But I didn't get to go with Mister Silva Demon to meet Bavaria! I want to!" She complained. "Do you think she'll be here?"

"Well... I don't think so, actually. But it can't hurt to try..."

Soho fell silent at his honesty, looking around for a moment, still hesitating. There was something wrong. Aleric could feel it in her emotions. She was confused and a tiny bit hurt by something.

"Soho?" He asked as she landed on the desk. "Is there something wrong?"

"Wh--I mean... no, I'm fine!" Soho said with a forced smile. "Just a little... lonely, I guess."

"Because?"

"Well... I haven't seen Dee in the longest time! I need to write her or call her or something, and then Marne left, and--"

"Galatea came by just the other day."

"Well, yeah, but--" She sighed. "I want to meet more people! I want to hear new stories and adventures and--"

"And?" Aleric prompted as she stopped talking once again.

"Aleric?" She asked, not daring to look at him. "Do you think I should grow up?"

He went still, wondering what had prompted that question. "I'm not sure..." He said slowly. "Do you think you should?"

"Everyone has to sometime, right?" Soho asked. "I mean, Dee grew up. And I'm not that much younger than Dee, but--"

"But?"

"I don't... I don't want to grow up." She said softly. "I would stay a little girl for the rest of my life if I could. But... but that's not going to happen, is it?"

"And why would you want to be a child all your life?" Aleric asked.

"Because--because--"

There was a rather noisy interruption before Aleric could even open his mouth to respond to his little girl's rather-less-than-articulate response. It was a rather familiar red-headed juvie feien, though a little more tan than she'd been previously, back slung with a Hello Kitty handkerchief-c**-parcel and humming the MacGuyver theme loudly. The moment that she saw Soho and Aleric, she promptly squealed and dropped the handkerchief; she zoomed forward so quickly it should have required a sonic boom.

"Soho!" Marne bowled the other juvenile over, kissing her rapidly over her cheeks and forehead. "I'm back! I'm not dead! I almost got eaten by a bunch of stuff, and it was so boring on the airplane, but I got some peanuts, and I missed you, did you think I was dead! I got this massively itchy magical outfit, I'm still learning how to wear clothes, but you should see my headstands - did you think I was dead? I wore your necklace! Let's go together next time, the drive was mega boring."

Soho blinked, listening in stunned silence for a second before she yelped and hugged the other juvenile back. "You're ALIVE!" She screamed, bouncing up and down. "Was it fun? Tell me!!"

Aleric sighed, amused by how quickly the pensive mood left his bonddaughter. "Yes, please tell us about your trip." He said with a smile.

"Hee-eeey, Aleric!" Marne detangled herself long enough to reach up and give a sloppy kiss to Aleric's cheek, before slinging an arm around Soho's shoulders. "It rocked; I ate lasagna a bunch of times, and nachos, and I was on the top of buses for weeks. I thought I would honestly die on top of a bus. I should've taken a plane there, but I didn't think at the time, you know?"

She pulled off the tiny plastic sunglasses that had been adorning her head; apparently Marne was the proud owner of two smashing black eyes. "Anyway, it was real exciting. I went to the sea, and there were these sea people - you know, naiads - and they made me pay them to take me to the rocks where Aquine's Grace was, and I think it took six hours to climb it, I couldn't fly, and my bruises have bruises. Hey, babe, I brought you back some souvenirs! I brought you and Silv and Gally some souvenirs too, Al, but Mom said sand wasn't a good gift, so she's making us nachos. Anything fun happen when I was gone?"

"I got a new cousin!" Soho said. "I haven't met her yet but I'm sure you'll love her! And it sounds AWESOME! I want to meet naiads!! But what happened to your face?? You look like a raccoon!"

"If I may?" Aleric said, holding out his hand to the blue juvenile.

"Oh! And I had some presents sent to you and Dee! Did you get it? Huh?" Soho asked.

"Yeah! It's why I came over!" Marne had the difficult task of happily putting her hand in Aleric's while reaching over to kiss Soho's cheek again. "I was hoping I'd find you here. Otherwise I'd have to go over to your house, and I think Silv might give me a look, because I think he thinks we'd have hot sex, and, well, I'm like a soldier coming back, we should totally go steady. - Dee said she was gonna drop over later tonight, she was pretty gushy about the fan. The lava lamp is bitchin'! I watched it for like an hour! So retro! It was the best gift ever. I put it right next to my bed so I can watch it. - Do I really look like a raccoon? Mom gave me this grodacious stuff to put on my eyes, made me smell like a pharmacy. Who's the cousin?"

"A very cute raccoon!" Soho said with a nod.

Aleric took her hand, bringing up the magic it took to heal her with relative ease. Then he let go, trying not to laugh at the two females. They were very... entertaining together.

"You should have seen me in the shop!" Soho went on. "I stared and stared and STARED at it! It was like... that one show with the guy with the raspy voice and--"

"She means a song video." Aleric clearified.

"It was sooo cool! So I had to get it for you! And my cousin's name is Bavaria! Mister Silva Demon met her already, but I went to look for her in the wrong place."

Marne flexed her fingers delightedly as a number of the aches and pains disappeared; she gave Aleric the thumbs up, reaching up to gratefully kiss him again (on the other cheek; she was, alas, wearing peach lip gloss, which rubbed off more than a little).

"Hey, Bavaria sounds kind of familiar," she said, hopping down to retrieve her dumped Hello Kitty knapsack as she trailed back up to them both. "Give me a mo, I'll remember it. That's cool, though. I've never had a cousin. I guess she's like my cousin-in-law. You know, I was totally thinking about you romantically as I lay in the water all drowning and stuff. We should go on a quest together next time! Now that we're all experienced. Just you, me, danger, excitement. Like I'm James Bond and you're a Bond Girl. Isn't it cool when the lava lamp, like, globs up all in one place and then the big glob breaks apart into littler globs? I could watch that ALL. DAY."

She reached inside the knapsack and pulled out a pair of sunglasses that were exactly the same as her own, only red. Marne was a thoughtful shoplifter of Barbie goods. "Here! I got this for you in a city that I forget!" More rummaging, and she pulled out a tiny conch shell. "And here you go; if you hold it up to your ear you can hear the sea. Al, did you know that sea creatures are kinky? They don't wear clothes."

Soho took the glasses, putting them on and posing sexily. Then she ruined it with a giggle. She took the conch and listened for a second before she paused and blinked her third eye at the other female. "But... most feien don't wear clothes, either." She turned to look at Aleric. "Am I kinky, Aleric?"

"I'm not sure that she was thinking that, Soho." Aleric said. It just got worse... "And Silva might insist on us going along if you both go." One was trouble enough, both would probably be mass destruction. Then he yelled at himself for that thought.

Even if it WAS true.

Marne let out a groan, pushing her sunglasses up to her forehead and slipping an arm around Soho's waist. She attempted to give Aleric puppy eyes as she rested her head on the other juvenile's shoulder. "But Al, he's just being overprotective! I mean, I can look after Soho, I'm all responsible and crap now! I mean, yeah, Dee says that if I had a plant it would die in an hour, but - I've seen this on a soap opera before. He's totally got to accept that I'm Soho's hot girlfriend and that I can look after her. - Maybe one day we'll even get married, Dee was talking about it with this 'monogamy' stuff. Do you know what a wedding is, Soho? It's this party where you wear a dress and everybody has to say, 'I've never seen you looking so beautiful!' and everyone has to look at you for like six hours."

"MARRIED??" Soho asked with wide, awed eyes. "With the dresses and the flowergirls, and the man standing in the back shouting 'NOOOO! DOOONNN'TTT!!' Married??" She yelped and threw herself into the other female's arms, kissing her full on the lips. "Let's DO IT!!"

"I'm afraid..." Aleric started out slowly. "That feien don't get married."

Marne ignored Aleric helpfully by tangling her hands in Soho's hair and kissing her in a way that would have interested a number of men's magazines, pretty much rubbing all of her peach lipgloss off for good. "We'll just find someone to yell 'NOOO! DON'T!', I bet we can! It has to be when the priest says - can we get a priest - I bet Al can be the priest. "If anyone has anything to say that I should not join these two in holy matrigomy, like, if she's been sleeping with the other girl's brother, or is pregnant to some guy called Vincent, speak now or forever hold your peace,' that's when the guy says 'No! Because I love her!'."

This was punctuated with another kiss, because Marne liked Hollywood movies, before she turned her head to the adult male. "And sure feien get married, Al! I mean, Dee said to me that if I ever touched anyone else in their secret places before we were joined in marriage, police would come and rip our arms off and we'd go to hell. I guess she doesn't know, though, because I watched Titanic and they had sex in a car. Hey, Silva can walk you down the aisle! And Al can be the best man!"

"Oooh, peachy!" Soho said, bringing a finger to her lips, then licking at the lipgloss. "But where are we going to find a guy that'll do that? And he has to be cute! I'm not going to have an ugly guy interrupt my wedding."

Aleric sighed. Hopefully they'd forget it before they got to the part where they asked Silva to do the honors. Something told him it wouldn't end prettily. Especially when he found out about the third member they seemed to insist upon.

"Well, we'll just have to find a cute juvenile dude as soon as possible!" Marne declared, with no happy knowledge of how much Silva would want to, say, rip off her head and spit down the hole. Or how much her big sister was going to get a migraine. Thankfully, chances were good that Ruby and Marne would forget about the idea as soon as they found another, say, like joining a band or making a movie."We should start looking. I mean, he'll have to be at least as cute as the Pepsi Guy. We have high standards."

"Oh most definitely." Soho agreed. "And he'll have to be a little punkish. Punks are hot!" Then she paused. "Maybe we should get two! One for me and one for you! And then it'll be TWICE as dramatic!!" She said.

Aleric was searching for a new topic. Desperately. He couldn't think of anything except... "You know..." He said. "You could probably meet more juvenile males if you threw a party."

"Oh! Hey!" That did the trick. Marne clutched Soho's hand excitedly. "Al, you're so right! You're a genius! We can meet a lot of cute punk juvie boys that way who'll be happy to be pregnant with our babies at our wedding! And I told Gal I was totally going to throw a party, and invite her! Let's throw a party!"

"I've always wanted babies!!!" Soho said excitedly. "And they'll yell and cry and say 'but what about the BABY!!' as we walk down the aisle!!"

This... wasn't what he had had in mind...

"We can be moms together! I've always wanted to be a mom! And with you, babe!" Marne clutched Soho's hands. "Our cute babies, it's so romantic. I bet with two juvie boys and us we could have, like, six blooms, and call them all Phoenix and River and stuff. Let's go make the fliers! I have glitter pens!"

"Okay!!" Soho said happily. "And the party can be at my place! We already have a picnic planned with Gala, so we can make it an all-day thing!"

She paused. "We're gonna need to get a band." She said with a nod.

"Let's plan it out right now." Marne paused too. "Maybe we can be the band. That'd be so cool. - Thanks, Al! I know you support me and Soho in a loving relationship! You've got great ideas!"

She said all this very cheerfully as she grabbed Soho's arm and started dragging. "Glitter pens and maybe perfume. And we can make out in-between fliers. And eat nachos."

"That sounds so fun!!" Soho said, letting herself be dragged away. "And cute punk guys!!"

Aleric only groaned and watched them go.

Feien Football: A football game turns into an impromptu lecture about feien sex and the dangers of hurting Soho's feelings.

It was the morning of the first class. They had woken earlier than usual, around seven thirty, to start their morning warm-ups. And as usual, the two animal boys started out with a fight.

"Don't even think about it, Nick!" Nack shouted, moving so his right arm was barring over the back of Nick's neck. The wolf boy had already got his hit in, and was about to suffer for it. Nack reached down, grabbing Nick's ragged looking jeans, and pulled, just as he always did.

But something happened this time that hadn't happened before. "RIIIIIPPP!" The pants tore down the back, falling to the ground and leaving the poor wolf boy with a draft.

"s**t!" Nick cursed, jumping away from Nack and looking down. His hands went down abruptly, covering himself as a bright flush crossed his cheeks. "Dammit, Nack! You ripped my pants!"

Nack was looking away, not daring to say anything in fear that he'd start laughing.

"Those were my only pair you jackass!" Nick shouted, jumping the other male and pounding on him. His shirt was already full of holes, but now his pants-- "And the brats are coming for training today!" He added, slamming his fist into Nack's barely blocking hand.

"I didn't mean to!" Nack said, dodging another blow. "Get off of me! If we're going to make you a new pair before they get here we don't have time to waste!"

Nick grunted, pulling back reluctantly and tugging his shirt off. He ripped it into one long piece and tied it around his waist like a skirt. "And how the hell are we going to do that? I don't even remember how we got those clothes in the first place."

"Well there's got to be some old material around here somewhere..." Nack said. "The only problem is sewing. I don't have a needle small enough--"

"I can help!" Soho said, looking up from where she was stretching with Silva. "I've got this trick I figured out a while back." She bounced to her feet and headed towards them. "But I don't know why you have to wear clothes in the first place. They look uncomfortable."

Both boys went red. "Well... we're used to it." Nack finally said lamely. "Think Ice would know where some cloth is?"

"Um... yeah. Probably." Nick said as he headed for the string that led to the ground. Both boys headed for the front room, leaving Soho to shake her head and wait for them to return.

Ice was talking on the phone as Walter and Oblivion played at her feet. She looked slightly irritated, but her tone was nice and polite. "Yes, sir, corrugated means that there's grooves in the steel that the knife is made out of--well, actually, if you don't know what corrugated is, then chances are good that you don't need it-- of course, sir... why don't I--"

Nick and Nack headed for the string that hung down the side of the couch, climbing their way up and waiting impatiently for Ice to finish talking. She finished up the conversation a few moments later, jotting down a note in her little yellow book, then looked up at them. "Nice um... skirt, Nick."

"Nack ripped my pants."

"It was you're own fault!"

"And we've got a class in like an hour or two, with a couple of juvie female feien coming over. We're supposed to teach them to spar." Nick went on, crossing his arms over his chest. Ice couldn't help but notice that for such a little guy he was extremely well defined. But she didn't mention that.

"Um..." Ice said. "I can try to make you some pants, but--"

"No, Soho said she could. But do you have any material we can use?" Nack asked. "Something light, and thin if possible."

"But tough."

"Well I do have a really old black silk shirt..." Ice said thoughtfully. "I guess that would work, right?"

"Yeah, I guess." They watched impatiently as she stood and headed for her room, chasing after her as she headed for the closet. But instead of opening to another world the door opened to... shockingly enough, a real closet.

She pulled out a black silk shirt, one that looked almost new even though she had had it for years. "Will this work?" She asked, holding it out to them. Both boys touched the smooth cloth.

"You sure it's tough enough?" Nack asked.

"Yeah. I'm sure." She said as she laid it on the hope chest. "Do you want me to cut it for you?"

"I can." Nack said as he headed for Silva's exacto blade set.

"You might make the pants a little larger." Ice suggested as she watched him. "It should let you move easier."

Soho fluttered over, dropping down to watch as the baggy pants were cut in two pieces. She took them from Nack and cast mend to make them into pants. Then she thoughtfully created cuffs at the ankles and stopped to grab a piece of string and fold the waist over to make a tie string. She had seen these sort of pants in her magazines!

"There we go! One pair of fighting pants all done!" She said happily, handing them over to Nick. Nick slipped them on, looking slightly blank at how the bagged around his legs. He tightened the string, tying it at his waist, then he tossed the shirt away. "Huh... I dunno..." He said, moving and blinking at the swishing sound it created.

Nack handed over a second pair of pants to Soho, taking them for himself before he started cutting out shirts.

"That should last you a good while." Ice said. "And we'll get you something heavier for when winter comes."

"Thanks Ice." Nack said as he pulled on his own pants and shirt. He did it quickly, so that nothing showed for more than a second. "We appreciate it."

"It's no problem!" Ice replied. "You two look really good in black." She jumped as the sound of a trashcan falling over filled the air. "And now I've got to go give Walter a bath. Be good, you guys!"

The nodded and waved as she left before turning back to what they were doing. It was only then that Silva spoke.

"You better take damn good care of those pants, boys."

"Huh?" Nick asked, glancing over at the tall feien. "But she said the shirt was old."

"It is. It's also one of her favorites."

Nick and Nack looked at each other for a long moment. Then Nick spoke. "I don't need a shirt yet."

"...Yeah."

And they went to work folding the shirt carefully for the next time they needed pants.
