Heh, sorry Gid... Just thinking we have enough Hoshigaki...
Some people think a clanless person should be made... ((EDITED))
My biggest issue are the ones that are in a clan and then go for a bonus to their niche with a bomb weapon. I get that you want your character to max out their strength, but there should be some compromise.
Here's Joe Everyman in a clan and they get a 50% boost to [skill]. It was at 50, now it's at 75. They go on a quest and find a weapon that tacks on another 30%. What was 75 is now at 97 (rounding down). That's almost 2x the original skill.
Meanwhile Joan Somewoman doesn't join a clan. She has 50 at a different skill. However, she wants a weapon that adds 90% to a skill, so she could match Joe's caliber. The weapon gets rejected for being too powerful. All the while, Joe is slashing mofos left and right. Fair? I think not...
I think the only fair option is to balance out both aspects. If you want a clan? Fine. You get a lesser weapon. You want a good weapon? Cool. No/Restricted clan abilities. Have more of one and less of the other or less of one and more of another. You can't have badassery across the board.
((I will admit, my character is the one at the disadvantage. But I am one that would still speak up if I did have the advantage. It's only right.))
