How do hunters change with old age, 10, 15 years from now?

LizAnswer:

"yeah like ~ hunters are healthier than most ppl as they age, they arent immortal but if they somehow managed to avoid battle while keeping their weapon fed they'd be a healthy ******** old as s**t a*****e ~

but ~ the context of deus and circumstances make that unikely ~ in the end the result is pretty similiar because theyre fighting and get hurting all the ******** time and the situation is terrible for mental health

but thats environment vs changes caused merely by bonding"

Question about the blue flames/effects from them and the other effects from the Sahara!

The way I'm reading everything is that the blue flames took off the layer of skin infected by the famine!fear and that the severity of the burns was just as much from being left out in the hot, burning desert sun without any sort of cover as it was from the flames. Is this correct?

As far as the flames go, were any of the personal effects that they were wearing affected/destroyed, or was it just their skin? Coats and clothing still intact or did it all burn away?

For characters like Arland who have pretty fabulous hair... Did the runic flame purify the goo/grime/gore from inside the stomach out of it but leave the hair otherwise unscathed or?

THANK YOU SOMUCH, ZOO!

It's actuallly preeetty messy thankfully not all skin peeled right off this aint a horror gig. Some smaller patche of skin have entirely peeled off, others have been seared - not too sure if you're familiar with burnt bodies but usually a terrible mess of scorched clothes and skin - so there is still clothing, Hunter coats are also surprisingly resilient so the parts with coat have less suffering.

It was mentioned that Deus had a pool somewhere that was broken. How can this be fixed? Are there materials already there or is it just a pump/some machine that needs to be worked on? Can hunters work on fixing this pool?

The pool can be fixed using manual labor, aka having your trainee go and work on repairing it. Materials aren't there anymore, unfortunately. Those materials were commandeered to rebuild the dorms and other parts of Deus Ex thanks to the last attack.

Hunters can work on rebuilding it, however it's expected that they'll do it in their free time. Trainees are expected to study/learn and train while making themselves useful to their superiors.

Currently the only form of swimming on Deus Ex is to swim in the ocean, however that isn't advised due to sharks and other predatory things, both existing in this world and the occasional sea monster.

If you want specific values for rebuilding the pool, let me know and I can throw some together/give you some specifics to work off of. Otherwise, you can RP working on fixing the pool/hot tub/sauna/etcetc~ There are loads of recreational items on Deus Ex that have fallen into disrepair.

Hello lovely ladies! *u* I was wondering if the general pool is still in this state (and/or if it's still available to 'clean up')

ALSO i believee there was also a pool near/belonging to sun division!

is the pool mentioned above that same pool, or is that a special Sun Division Only Pool?

ANDDD one last question SORRY if the pool is sun-only, can you like, bribe one to let you in for a Cool Swimming Adventure Party of One?

thank you in advance for humoring SWIMMAN QUESTIONS <333

There is a pool which the sun division loves using because Allan abuses portals to it, but it isn't actually on Deus per se, they simply literally borrow out a pool for a week or a few months etc.

There's a pool ON Deus that needs some work, I'm sure they can do some cleaning rps and get it spiffied up, since this IS Deus, they'll probably need to do some hardcore upkeep as just cleaning it up once isn't too great: it starts to accrue all sorts of nasties just after a week of neglect.

If you are a Runic Journeyman, when you roll 1d10 to carve a stone to determine if it's a failure/regular/superior,and you roll a 8, can you use the 1 roll different to make it a 9? Can you do this over a whole batch of rolls to increase it all by +1?

Yes all rolls can be increased by 1 unless it's a battle roll

Question: Is this bonus per team, or per person?

Quote:
Special: Should you bring their HP to either 0 exactly or 1, then you may viably capture them and bring them back to Deus. (Bonus Pay: $3000) otherwise they simply escape or dissipate.

Q: On Hunters and Technology;

It says that the island doesn't really have technology, but Candace and Jeremy both have headphones. Would it be possible to let them have MP3 players (that they'd likely need to charge in halloweentown), or would it be best to say that their headphones are just connected to their communication cellphones?

2011 Answer:

XD The island has a pretty good set of generators to provide electricity, so they can recharge their batteries on the island (doing so in Halloween would be a no go) ~ it just doesn't offer like, cable television and computers to the majority of Hunters. Think of it as fairly low-tech (outside the labs) rather than no-tech.

Keep in mind that too much tech = attraction from OTHER humans wondering about the existence about the island and other None Of Their Business information, thus the "low tech" part of it D:

Revised 2014: the generators are runic in nature, not AC or DC. Electronics need to be converted to use runic energy. Computers and TVs to watch movies on are a possibility, but converting the item can be costly!

Quote:

Q:
is it possible for hunter to have their weapon be able to heal others in some fashion or other? I was thinking about a hunter that specialized in helping out their team mates more then fighting off halloweeners, but I then realized that since humans can't use fear any healing ability would only work on a halloweener. Is there a way to get around this (for example the weapon could convert the fear into something the human body could use?)

2011 Answer:
For helping out...rather than directly healing, a weapon could create a barrier or absorb attacks. But full-out healing itself is a no. Otherwise a certain trainee would have two arms atm. (Poor Davey, his bowling score will never recover)

Revised 2014:
Outside of weapon charges and special Runic equipment, this still isn't possible.

Quote:

Q:
I gave Hanna a few books and a musicbox from her grandmother as her minimal personal effects. Would this be acceptable? I wasn't sure how strict they would be about ONLY the bare bones necessities.

2011 A:
That is okay! Please validate though how they got there, perhaps Hannah put them in her small bag she was packed when she arrived on the Island, for example! In some other examples, Hunter candidates might have arrived with nothing, having left as a more on the spot sort of situation, in this case, they would have very little self belongings.

Q:
Am I allowed to write a very brief backstory for her weapon's life before she became a weapon? What are the limitations/guidelines on this? I know it says they have "some of their memories" still. I was just looking for clarification on that.

2011 A:
You are allowed to write on your weapon's backstory and what they might have been like as a TiH character, the only restriction is they cannot mention (and are forbidden to mention) why they became a "weapon". They are allowed to talk about their life previous, but keep in mind that Hunter weapons are ranked WITH Hunters for a reason they did not get along all that well in Halloween.

2014 Revised Answer:
This is no longer a matter that is "allowed/not allowed" matter to hunter weapons. To simplify matters and work better with the nature of conversion, please treat weapons in a manner somewhat similar to ghosts and zombies, most memories of their past lives and interactions have been lost. They may still have general knowledge of the world of Halloween and impressions of what their life was and who they were, but they shouldn't be recognizing old friends and enemies.

Quote:

SETTING INFORMATION QUESTIONS GO:

- I assume the Hunters get food from somewhere: is there a main cafeteria/mess hall/etc.? What's it like, and what sort of food is likely to be available?

- What other things are provided for the trainees? I assume they'd be given clothing/toiletries/various supplies? Is there a quartermaster or someone they can requisition things from?

- Is there a library? Can they request books/other media not involving major technology?

- What are trainees expected to do in their free time (and what facilities are there for them to do... various activities)? Is everything always srs bznz? XD

- Can they text each other using their Hunter cell phones... and do they have those phones yet?

2011 A:
they could remember past wielders, if they had any but all the fresh recruits also got fairly fresh weapons. The majority of weapons at the moment are first and second year students lured away from various schools around Halloween for the last several years.Several of the more veteran hunters on the island carry weapons that have been passed down through the generations of their families or training masters.

2014 Revised Answer: Memories of past wielders is only an option if the weapon never turned into a tablet between bonding hunters.

2011 A: Weapons can see, hear, and feel when summoned.

2014 Revised Answer: they may also in totem form, though their senses are limited to their hunters. You can't leave a totem in one room and have them listen in to things others say or anything along those lines.

2011 A: Yeah there's a cafeteria (they get human cafeteria food, assume what you will about it) a library (and they can even read the books in it, the horror and lore sections are especially robust), and they do have a supply house they can use to grab toiletries and such from. Think of the quartermaster position as a s**t job hunters get assigned to on rotation every once in awhile. Their free time can be used for socializing, independent studies, mindless pieces of whatever, physical conditioning, and whatever hobbies they able to indulge in. They do have their cell phones and they can text other hunters using them.

Quote:

Q:
Also do the weapon and the hunter communicate ALL the time or only when the weapon is summoned?

2011 A: they can communicate at all times

2014 Revised A: They must be in proximity (within a room or two's distance.) Totems come in easily portable forms for a reason, and this is it. Keep your weapon on you at all times.

Quote:

Q:
Do weapons know how to be summoned and unsummoned, or does that require some kind of explanation/training?

2011 A:
Weapons just know what it feels like to be summoned (and its slightly different for each one so you'll have to use your imagination)

Quote:

Q:
Since the weapons are picking the hunters, do they know anything about their chosen hunter's experiences from the meta? Or is it just one of those resonating with each other things? For example, in our weapons ceremony solo could they refer to something their chosen hunter had done that drew their attention or something to that effect?

2011 A: That extra something hunters have had all their life resonates with the weapon's FEAR. Overtime, the bond will likely reveal the hunter's experiences and previous life, but that doesn't start until after the ceremony, and again, fairly slowly unless the hunter is super open and mentally chatty. So in that instance, the weapon wouldn't refer to what the hunter had already done before entering the ceremony.

Quote:

Q:
Would there be things like horror movies, games, (like, Silent hill..PS1, really a**-old PC games) and such on campus for 'research' purposes that older students might have snuck in? Or old black and white horror films/just the real creepy films in library or something?
Anything like these at all? Old film reals?

Can Students have picnics on the island? |D
Camp fires?
I ask since the whole...fog..issue kinda lingers.

2011 A:
Yeah ~ newer forms of scary lore like movies and games would be hand, since they are capable of spawning TiHers.

They can have picnics in a the foggy unlovely outdoors and such. The fog doesn't affect hunters the same was it does TiHers (their weapons are fairly immune as well, due to the nature of their current form)

Basically, the fog isn't just made of FEAR but rather a chaotic FEAR as opposed to Halloweens more ordered FEAR. When TiHers are exposed to the fog for a long time, it can corrupt and disrupt the FEAR that the TiHer is made out of. This usually takes the form of severe mental instability and altered perceptions that include the senses, and even time.

2014 Revised Answer:
Yay the fog (which was made of Insanity) is no longer an issue! But scary things are still on the island and there's always a chance they may disrupt gatherings.

Quote:

Q:
Can Hunters hold or use another Hunter's weapon? What would happen?

2011 A:
They can hold it, but they can't charge it or communicate with it....also...uhhh...it's not really safe...

...

...for anyone else within striking distance.

Hunters trying to use other hunters' weapons tend to go all "Here's Johnny!"

2014 Revised Answer:
More of an explanation ~
Holding another hunter's weapon when said hunter is not also in contact with the weapon is ill-advised, particular if the weapon belongs to a higher ranked hunter. It's a disruption of the bond and that weapon's awareness, amping up the weapon's only real sense that belongs to them: hunger for FEAR. A weapon that's stronger than you can overwhelm your senses and reason, causing you to become hostile and bloodthirsty.

Quote:

Q:
So, just to make sure I understand the golem thing: from now on we're free to pick up/roll golems and take them to Amityville unsupervised? Can we go in groups? Solo? XD

2011 A:
yes ~ though be sure to give it a mission-y context. It's not like borrowing the car for a joyride. If anybody is uncomfortable making something up, just poke myself, maru, or zoo and we'll whip something up.

Quote:

Q:
Are weapons able to manipulate hunter's movements in any way?

Also, would weapons and Hunters be able to communicate with each other while asleep? Do Weapons sleep? Would they share dreams?

2011 A:
Not actively. Passively, they allow for a beginner level skill in wielding them.
Yes, kind of, sometimes but not often.

Quote:

Q:
With regard to the duties, we can just start a PRP / Solo / etc for whichever one we're doing, right? I.e. I can do a solo of Gale attempting to get four steps into the Deathsweeper room?

2011 A:
yep ~ ! Mechanics can also be adjusted for group play, if you're unsure how, just poke me.

Quote:

Q:
Would there be some way to obtain a guitar? o: It's not exactly tech or whatever, but I don't know if there might be some other way to go about it ... XD

Because I think Tedan can play and it might be cool for him to get hold of one at some point. If it requires some kind of special RP or something like that, I like this idea~

2011 A:
The abandoned and partially destroyed school has a bandroom. If someone were to work on clearing/repairing the town, they may have a chance to find (somewhat battered) instruments within. Otherwise, hunters who have human world missions can be sometimes bribed to bring things back, as long as they aren't too bulky (a guitar request has a good chance of resulting in a ukelele)

2014 Revised A:
You can also pick one up for yourself on leave now. If your hunter is still too new to get leave, they can still bribe someone toget it for them.

Quote:

Q:

Just want to clarify.. because I am not sure and I see diff things being done:

Hunters can or cannot charge their weapons by fighting each other? In 1 v 1 fights are we using our charge attacks?

A: They can charge, using them is up to your hunters ICly

Quote:

Q:
Related to Christmas presents! I know things like TV's, DVD players etc are right out lol. But what about smaller electronics, such as a Nook or one of those tiny MP3 players? Personal gaming systems like PSP or Nintendo DS? Would those not be allowed (OOCly or ICly) or just not work at all, or? XD;;

2011 A:

Anything with "video" or a screen feed that can be disturbed by electromagnetic waves (strong ones) does not work on Deus. This includes PSPs, nintendos, etc etc. But if you're REALLY lucky you can ask a Life Hunter to mod an ipod for you okay!

(but no phone service, no internet, no computers outside of Hunter tech, maybe only luck modding a very small item)

Rune-powered computers are in the hunter labs, they're on an intranet that includes a limited google-esque search and wiki with Hunter-relevant informations.

The better tech is all a mix of human technology and runic magic that utilizes the FEAR absorbed by the Island's barrier.

2014 Revised A:
Items with video screens are simply more costly to have converted to runic power. The island is on an intranet, featuring forums, wikis, twitter, and several other amenities (though many are in hidden areas that aren't generally accessible and involve a Marvel RP group) though the internet is still no go.

Quote:

Q:
Who would act as a pastor for weddings at Deus ex? If they wanted to change their name who would they talk to?

2012 A:
They could change their name ~ just ask the people in the records office. There's no one to ask as a pastor. I mean ~ Killzone could say some words, but marriage isn't something The facility really caters to beyond "go ahead, don't let it affect your work" ~ people who want something more official usually do so during a leave weekend, and get married in places like vegas where its fairly easy to do with a fake passport and short notice.

2014 Revised A: Killzone is dead, you're on your own bro.

Quote:

Q: When Hunters have dorms, these would be rooms that would have been used countless times by previous owners, correct?

Does the Air Conditioning in Deus have any sort of filtration (like hypoallergenic Filters)?

Are Hunters still given medications they took in their past life?

2012 A:
Yes! Actually certain portions of the buildings have been around for centuries! But rooms are cleaned pretty thoroughly prior to getting new occupants.

In certain areas like the lab building yes. In the dorms, no.

Possibly. But if the medical condition is of the sort that would impede mission performance, chances are they wouldn't have been recruited in the first place, and the weapon bond can possibly alleviate certain minor conditions.

2014 Revised A:
Bond cures most conditions, though it won't heal like old scars or grow back your arm.

Q:
I'm talking medication for very minor OCD. The medication helps out - and it's not to the level were the person is screaming in terror at being outside of their room, but enough to be nervous or uncomfortable around someone with the sniffles.

2012 A:
Yah they'd probably carry some, but it may not always be readily available.

Quote:

Q:
If we got permission from the rper of a TIH character, could we have the trigger that makes our Hunter character see shadows be an encounter with a TIH character (not a student but a teacher that would have a passport)??

2012 A:
You can ~ !

Quote:

Q:
Since I don't like assuming, if it works for a plot for both our characters, could my quest Hunter be allowed a small burn mark from a TIH character during the moment of his first encounter/trigger to see shadows if I justified it?

2012 A:
As long as its small, and is within their abilities ~

Quote:

Q:
Would it be possible to backdate/past rp this encounter that created a trigger for a Hunter? *Curious*

2012 A:
Yes ~ ! and Since you asked for the okay and would have plotted for it ~ backdated rp is fine in the past rp subforum ~

Quote:

Q:
This is why I shouldn't have my phone nearby when I'm in bed.

When weapons are first bonded with a Hunter, wouldn't they be fear starved? Is there a place to fed a fed starved weapon or would it not be necessary as it would be like feeding the weapon's addiction?

Do some Hunters have mini pets as pets and if so, how do they survive with being outside Halloween?

2012 A:
It wouldn't be starved ~ as it's been in a dormant state ~ like hibernation ~ hungry? Yeah ~ most likely ~ but not starved ~

Minipets are kept in the minipet labs ~ some hunters do indeed have favourites! (but said favourites sometimes end up being used in experiments or melting) ~ minipets are kept inside tanks filled with ambient FEAR ~ outside of the tanks they can only be outside for like an hour before they start to melt in a rather horrific manner.

This thread describes various locations and duties, including minipets: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=22297769

This RP gives descriptions and examples of how minipets are fed an cleaned up after inside the labs: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=22315873

2014 Revised A:
Personal minipet carriers can be gained in several ways, enabling some hunters keep their favourite minipet with them and out of the labs.

Quote:

Q:
Weapon starvation - I hear that weapon starvation typically is the weapon complaining that it is hungry. Has it every escalated to a point were the weapon is outright complaining and demanding constantly to be fed as if it needs a fix badly? Does this ever get to the point of being a major problem? Are there measures to prevent this or ways to deal if this escalates to a problem?

2012 A:
Generally thats just a personality thing. Some people are more demanding, loud, and whiney than others ~ and weapons are still people in this regard. If it escalates into a problem, its generally more of a relationship problem between hunter and weapon ~ and something they need to work out between them.

Quote:

Q:

In Life, can trainees ask for specifics fields of study to work under seeing as they research different subjects (outside of their normal duties and what is currently necessary to be done)?

Can Life Hunters, like Amityville students, get mentored under someone?

2012 A:
Trainees are encouraged to do a bit of everything, Intermediates may begin to help in more specialized fields. Full hunters often fully specialize. Life doesn't allow those under full Hunter to learn certain skills, such as runic coding, in order to keep certain skills and abilities within the Life division (Life and Death are the two information-based divisions, and tend to be at odds.)

Quote:

Q:
When humans in the normal world first see shadows (the recruits that will be taken into Deus) - how do they see these shadows? Are they just shadows, are is this just the term for Halloweeners? How much detail do they see - just shapes and some variations of shadow depths with maybe eyes? Can they hear noises coming from these creatures - like grunts and hollow breathing? Can they also be pushed aside or would the creatures go through them if any human was ever stupid/daring enough to confront them?

2012 A:
Shadows that hunters see come in two flavours: shadowlings ~ which show up in some courses and tend not to be very powerful, as they are generally just the runaway shadows of halloweeners and such ~ and tend to be less intelligent than minipets. And halloweners themselves, normal humans can't see TiHers unless the creature in question is capable of controlling their FEAR to the point where they make themselves visible. Generally they just see indistinct shadows, noises can be indeed heard, they can be pushed aside, unless the creature is intangible (ghost or nat ability) ~

There are times when potential hunters see very vivid, distinct TiHers, but these times are few and far between, it's rare for a potential to see them like this more than once or twice in their lifetime.

Quote:

Q:
do the runes around the island/on the weapons mean anything? Is it a language, symbols, just random energy waves?

could a hunter find out the meaning of these symbols/letters/waves/pictures through research in the library with ease? difficulty? not at all?

2012 A:
It's language and symbols and hunters with a great deal of knowledge when it comes to both language and symbolism can create more. Basic ones can be figured out with ease, the common/ancient ones you could find in google, others are generally kept as need-to-know-only in the life labs ~

2014 Revised Answer:
Basic runes and runecarving are slowly being introduced to all hunters. Currently only Uruz is available, but more will come. Newly created runes and more complicated ones are still restricted to senior life hunters, though.

Quote:

Q:
Do these shadow creatures only show up in areas that are dark or would generally be associated with being creepy/scary (as TIHers would go to places to collect FEAR) or could they be walking down a sidewalk since they wouldn't think anyone could see them? Do these shadowlings have limitations of where they can be?

2012 A:
The tiher shadow creatures show up w/e a TiHer icly would ~ and shadowlings tend to stick to areas where they blend well

Quote:

Q:
Do weapons have their own senses or are they from the hunter they are with?

Example: Do weapons see or do they only see through their partner's eyes? Do they also able to taste what the hunter tastes? I ask because weapons comment on things all the time that is happening around them - but is it in reaction to what is being seen by their partner and transmitted to their weapon, or what the weapon directly experiences?

2012 A:
They have sight, but it's limited to their hunter's sight. That doesn't mean they see exactly as the hunter sees though. It's just like when two people see one picture, and while one can accurately describe everything in it, another might only be able to describe a few items, but in greater detail. So what they really "see" is dependent on the two different personalities and cognitive abilities.

Same thing with hearing.

And they're also able to feel as they're handled/used ~ as well as the strength of their FEAR shield ~

All other senses are a no ~

Quote:

Q:

If someone threw their weapon across the room when they were in summoned/desummoned form, would they feel pain?

If my hunter had a desummoned weapon as a pen, could I have that pen work as in being able to write?

2012 A:

The weapon would be unhappy, thats for sure. The pain is possible, depending on conditions, but it's remote. A weapon would generally be more upset at the mistreatment than because of how it felt.

Yes, though just normal pen ~ it can't write for itself or anything

Quote:

Q:
Another odd question. If a hunter was drunk, would the weapon be drunk through their bond?

2012 A:
Nope ~ they also aren't affected by JOY as well as most status effects

Quote:

Q:
Are most weapons Halloween students or are some weapons able to just be normal, grown-up citizens of Halloween? Are most taken when they are young?

Once Halloweeners become weapons, do they age?

2012 A:

The majority were students, as Hunters still ICly have trouble successfully transforming a fully mature TiHer. They're taken at student age but not before ~

They do continue to age and grow, they are still very much living ~

Quote:

Q:
Can hunters leave their weapons in their room and walk away? How far away can they leave a desummoned weapon and for how long? What are the consequences/sideaffects if they do this?

2012 A:
They can leave their weapon, the further it is the harder it is to summon them. I would say that if the distance is too far, they won't be able to build a charge during battle, as the distance summons depletes the weapon's energy ~

I would also think the weapons would get kinda pissed ~

2014 Revised A:
If the distance lasts too long, the hunter may no longer be able to draw health from the bond. The hunter will be more prone to injury and illness if they abandon their weapon for a week or longer.

Quote:

Q:
How far is too far? Going to the cafeteria or like - leaving the island?

2012 A:
I would say a mile is too far.

2014 Revised A:
A mile is too far to force summon at all. Simply not being in contact and force summoning can kill your ability to charge.

Q:
Question! If a hunter has a disiblity normally, would that reflect inside their golem?

ie: Ofelia is blind on her left side due to lack of an eye, would the same weakness be inside her golem even though the golem itself would have two visible eyes?

Or would the weapon make up for that weakess?

2012 A:
The disability would not carry over ~

Q:
In last year's island meta, the area known as the dark cove was riddled with traps for the students.

.. Does it still have these traps?

Or was the cove for that event really deathsweeper?

2012 A:
That section of the Cove WAS full of traps, but since security was still bypassed last year, that portion has been blocked off for the time being.

Death sweeper is what a lot of Deus traps and such are tested on =D

Quote:

Q:
Another Shadow Interaction Question: If a human who can see shadows was close to a shadow, what would be some of the side affects aside from being scared out of your melon?

2012 A:
Maybe chills/goosebumps ~ just sensing that extra energy

Quote:

Q:
Since fear treats are available to be given to minipets to keep them alive in the labs - what would happen if a trainee ate a fear treat?

2012 A:
They get chills, maybe some anxiety and paranoia ~ possibly have trouble sleeping due to expecting something awful to occur.

Q:
It was mentioned that Deus had a pool somewhere that was broken. How can this be fixed? Are there materials already there or is it just a pump/some machine that needs to be worked on? Can hunters work on fixing this pool?

2012 A:

2014 Revised Answer:
There is a really nice pool available only to full hunters. (They may bring 1 guest to the nicer pool/gym facilities with them.)
There is a resort like beach and pool facility also available to full hunters, available through a special portal.
There is a really shitty concrete block of a pool available to trainees.
There is a pool in the school but it needs a lot of cleaning, repair, and clearing of infestation.
In the jungle there is a hidden lagoon that can be nice for a swim but there might be things that want to each you in there as well.

Quote:

Q:
Can there be a ref of just how much basic runic services costs? How much does it costs to runic up a ipod? A laptop? A toothbrush sanitizer? Just as rp reference purposes. Pwease?

2012 A:
Runic ipod average charge: $500USD
Runic laptop average charge: $2000 USD
Toothbrush: $100 US

^ Don't like the prices? Well that's what you get for living on an island do they look like they're made of time??! Seriously

2014 Revised A:
These prices can be negotiated lower and raised higher depending on your character and the NPC.

Quote:

Q:
"- Make sure to post OOC that your character is in a golem/ and what their golem looks like! Also make sure to note that since this is a NEUTRAL environment, students/ horsemen do not recognize these slightly nicer prototype golems!"

Does that mean their voices are altered in these golems or do they all still have their own voice?

2012 A:
If you are lucky you got one with an altered voice :T (or you can request it, if you ask nicely, I guess... @ icly to tech). It's up to you how you wanna rp it!

Quote:

Q:
Eating/drinking in golems, yay or nay? And if so what'd it taste like if anything?

2012 A:
Discouraged, golems don't digest so food would just sit there in an uncomfortable manner.

Quote:

Q:
Were the busted dorms ever fixed?

2012 A:
In large part, yes. Some areas and dorm rooms may still be heavily damaged due to their previous occupants no longer being with us on Deus Ex. There's also the quality of repair, ie a hunter who knows what they're doing will do a much better repair job than a hunter who's never had to use plaster before in their life.

So~ It's up to you how well "fixed" your dorm room is compared to someone else's. Otherwise on a whole they're in a "passable" condition with the occasional bad fix-it job suddenly falling over and making a huge mess and needing to be fixed again.

2014 Revised A:
This can be assumed for most times the dorms get damaged or partially destroyed. After they're regained and order of some sort is restored, repairs happen in the background unless stated otherwise.

Quote:

Q:
I know that if a guy and a guy on Deus have sex, they could have zombie babies. What if a hunter goes on leave and has sex with a man or a woman - will they be at risk for zombie babies with that normal person?

2014 Revised A: Male hunters - no. Female hunters - yes.

Quote:

Q:
Is there a way for a hunter, should they lose all their weapons by some weird thing (RE: HI CASS) to defend themselves without access to runics and stuff or are they just chow?

2012 A:
A weapon can summon itself to their hunter's side, but it takes a lot of energy. Otherwise generally without a weapon or runic a hunter is a rather defenseless human.

Quote:

Q:
Does Deus/Hunters celebrate Halloween? Considering that it's fear that makes creatures, wouldn't making it cheerful and fun work against it or would Halloween be considered HIGH ALERT time for Hunters? What is the general feeling on this holiday?

2012 A:
Halloween is the busiest time of the year. It's not a time when Hunters go out in large groups and go capture/kill Halloweeners indiscriminately. That would be a large waste of resources. Instead, it's a time to sit back and monitor closely.

'cause the Hunters are vastly outnumbered.

Otherwise pre-1999 the families of Deus did celebrate it, in a way. Too bad they're all gone now. :<

TO ADD: Deus Ex works 24/7 all year round with a couple days of short leave every month, less so for the trainees. There are no official holidays. It's up to the individuals themselves to celebrate holidays. Every year, Christmas would be ignored if not for Julie. Too bad she's no longer around to promote it, hey?

Quote:

Q:
Do I have to have a NPC for the admins wake Nevada from the pod...or can I do it with player Hunters? ex. Do I have a rp with like Lance/Aria for Nevada or can I have it with Candace/Molly/Otto/Ryan ect.

2012 A:
Nope! You can GM the NPC yourself. Check out page 25 with the details~

So if you wanted to collab with someone, they can wake your hunter up. Or if you want a specific NPC, you can poke that GM and collab with us too.

Quote:

Q:
If a trainee wanted to organize a holiday but didn't have leave, could he request the supplies from a deptment if he paid for it?

A:
sure

Quote:

Q:
Were students/halloween creatures being weaponized even in the twenties? And if so, Could they be bonded to a new hunter nowadays?

Say like...

I have Nevada who just woke up and her Weapon, Leroy is a 1920's inspired Mobster Reaper Tommy gun. Could he LITERALLY be from the 1920's?

2012 A:
Weapons were not massly created till post 1999! It would prolly involve some crazy loop in which Leroy continuously failed third year but yeahhhh

Quote:

Q:
What is the graveyard on the island like? We've seen it in a few orps, but I was wondering if we could get specifics?

Like are there grave stones, how many graveyards are there, hows it organized? Are hunters buried? Burned?

2014 A:
It's very simple and plain with markers featuring names and dates but no epithets. It's organized simply by time. There's 6 flags, one for each division and one for the island itself. Further up on the volcano, above where the fog line used to be, there's another small graveyard for those who died before ever becoming hunters.

All hunters are cremated unless there are outstanding circumstances preventing it.

Quote:

Q:
After the pony people came and attacked the island, do the houses in the village (the ones that were repaired) still have the 15 or so fog insanity monsters in them?

2014 A:
The town now has lots of small and a few large infestations of shadowlings and sometimes a full Halloween being. They tend to stay in the more abandoned areas.

Quote:

Q:
Just wanted to ask about mission reports.
Do we still fill it out after each meta? (Since I don't recall there being a prompt telling us to for the most recent HH mission, and... there hasn't been a post in there for a while, so I wanted to check)

For internal missions (spars/training, etc), can mission reports for them be filled out also, and how many times (once per training course/spar, or just one time total?)

Also, for the most recent portal mission, would mission reports have to be filled out for those also?

2012 A:
EMS Are a yes @ reports, yes to meta, everything else up to you! You do get a bonus rp point for doing them for EMS and metas!

2014 Revised A:
You really don't have to for metas, unless there's a stated bonus for doing so.

Quote:

Q:
If a Hunter has a probation bracelet can they leave the island?

2012 A:
Yes however:

1) They must be ESCORTED by a non-probation hunter.

2) If no hunter is available, they may be escorted by two non-probation trainees.

3) They must also bribe one of the portal techs.

2014 Revised A:
You probably can't afford the bribe.

Quote:

Q:
For spars, should our Hunter ICly decide not to summon their weapon do we need to drop down on the dice level as well? I remember it being mentioned once but I forget the end result. :T

2012 A:
It's really up to the hunter's choice. They can summon their weapon and go easy with it (drop down a dice), or they can opt to use a training weapon to either learn a new weapon or to prevent little "accidents." Like an arm being chopped off with a giant axe or a metal boot going to the nads or a scythe taking a little too much off the top of a neck if you catch my drift.

2014 Revised A:
No weapon = drop dice and hp down a tier, no charges

Quote:

Q:
If someone were to say, take some runiced appliances for a day no one was using for lighting and returned them the next day, would that be cool? >_> <_<

Also, is there any precautions that hunters are told about if they want to mess around intimately with people during their leave aside from using protection?

2013 A:
DEPENDS ON IF THEY GOT CAUGHT. CONSEQUENCES!

Just the zombie baby talk + if it looks like a hunter is growing close with someone on the outside, their profile is flagged and the might get a Death Hunter stalker for a bit

Quote:

Q:
Since going into Deus and being limited in opportunities to learn via a traditional class, are there ways for techs to learn more in the medical field on Deus if they had no education before coming to the island?

2013 A:
They offer their assistance and get hands on training, those interested in medic stuff end up in the infirmary, trainees get stuck with mainly grunt work like cleaning and bringing patients meals and the like ~ THEY ARE BASICALLY CANDY STRIPERS AT THAT LVL OK ~ they get a chance to mainly observe in the infirmary ~ they can also contact a more senior hunter about working under them as a sort of trainee assistant/minion ~ this basically applies to ALL fields and divisions

Quote:

Q:
Oh one more thing - are the guy's showers still destroyed?

2013 A:
THEY SHOULD NOT BE DESTROYED UNLESS YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN ******** AROUND AGAIN

Quote:

Q:
for "shadowlings" how powerful are they? where on the island are they? how often do they pop up?

2013 A:
Shadowlings singly are no big deal, you'll note from the courses that individual shadowlings only have 1 hp and do 1 damage. it's the part where they mob you in large numbers that's dangerous

They mostly stick to places they've been corralled into (shadow run) or hiding in basements and dark, out of the way places. They can be drawn out into specific areas using capsules containing a dense amount of FEAR.

Usually they only pop up when drawn out, or when hunters enter areas they''ve been occupying

Q:
how far can weapons golems be from their owner?

how long can w golem be w/ out owner?

what limitations do w golems have physically? (like can they eat things?)

how does getting one work? like you go to a life tech and rp them getting you a golem or ? the guide says "When the Life Labs regularly asks for volunteers." - how often is that?

ALL OF THE W GOLEM QUESTIONS OUO/

2013 A:
1) if they're in the facility it's fine. It also depends on weapon bonding, so the higher ranked the hunter, the more they can strain it. Beginner trainees cannot strain it as much. Anywhere inside the deus walls aslong as they're in around is the same building is average.

2) Golems, like tih golems cant eat things. They're super fragile being prototypes

3) You can just sign up for one, the life labs is alwys looking for volunteers. Though considering how many Hunters use them for leisure, it seems like they are now offering it as a service and charging.

2014 Revised A:
Golems must be monitored at all times, preferably by their hunter.

Quote:

This question came up regarding a spar where hunters were fighting hand to hand combat, and one of these hunters had no weapon/shield:

MK: Don't hunters know when they are breaking a shield
MK: so in theory they should know when they aren't clashing against one?

Here is the answer:

liss180: I would think they'd know by sustained damage
liss180: if someone is suddenly a bloody wreck, congratz u broke their shield
liss180: they would know if they werent hitting a fear shield if they didnt get a charge from it otherwise
liss180: yeah it wouldnt be obvious right away

In summation, if a hunter is fighting a hunter with no shield/weapon. they would be able to tell by lack of Fear charge upon successful hit. However, if it is hand to hand and no weapon involved, the only way to tell that there is no shield involved would be by sustained damage.

Quote:

Q: Runic weapons have been used in the past to fight and cause damage, granted, on a smaller scale/with limited use.

Do these, or can these, be applied to things like battle situations where normal dice put players at a disadvantage?

Like idr what RP but runic daggers causing OoC damage/used to be actual daggers for stabbing TiHers. Torches to burn slightly. In past its been flavor text but implied damage.

2013 A:
Yeah, flavour text is fine, just note that if you stab someone with a runic dagger, your weapon doesn't get a charge off that.

Q:
1. Do the statuses on approval for quest characters mean anything or are they just random fairy tale references? I was gettin' mad hype thinking they had secret meanings. I also assumed Sleeping Beauty meant someone was currently podded but I appear to have maybe been mistaken and I'm not gonna lie to you, I AM FAIRLY BUMMED IF THIS IS THE CASE. smilies/icon_sad.gif

That was actually 90% of what I wanted to ask but since I'm here here is 1% more:

2. So I know the process eliminates/soothes some minor health things, and major ones woulda stopped you from being approached for recruitment. So my question is what's the threshold for a major health problem that would have prevented recruitment--is a chemical addiction enough to do it? That's curable, is why I ask, and certainly there's no inpatient rehab facility safer than a totally isolated magical island haha.

Subsection A: If the above applies (ignore this if it doesn't), does it have an effect in the stuff you're going through in the pod, or is that all away in your physical body and your locked-up memories?

Subsection B: if it applies (ignore it if it doesn't): assuming you did get recruited while prey to a drug addiction, are you gonna withdraw right out of the pod or is that somehow magically hand-waved away? If you do, does the weapon/the island/anything else diminish the effects or are you in for a period of (magically-accelerated?) cold turkey before you're well again?

3. RELATED TO THE ABOVE: if you're, say, a smoker, and you stumble out of your pod... are you gonna stumble out physically craving a smoke? Or is that all magically hand-waved? I imagine psychologically you're probably gonna want a smoke regardless but the wave of nicotine craving is what I'm curious about O:

4. Speaking of which what's the policy on smoking and alcohol on the island? If it's permitted, where does one acquire goods?

2013 A:
1. generally its sleeping beauty but sometimes one of the Life hunters thinks they're clever when entering pod data

2. recovering drug/alcohol addicts are acceptable ~ ! But those actively indulging in their addiction would be passed over as a bad/unreliable investment.

3. smokers are still gonna want to smoke, the weapon bond does not cure addiction at all, though it may heal over physical damage caused by addiction (if it was serious enough, like scars would still be there, but that plz-dont-be-cancer cough is gone)

4. unavailable on-island, newbies don't get their pay or leave until after a few months or a huge mission, so they're SOL at first. Hunters can buy alcohol and cigarettes during their leave and bring them back, drugs can be brought back but that's one of those "you can do pretty much anything but there will likely be CONSEQUENCES which you won't have any control over" ~ type deals! Also if alcohol impairs a hunter's work, or they are found drunk on the job there will be CONSEQUENCES then too. Basically: CONSEQUENCES.

Quote:

Q:
Do weapons "age" after awakening? Ie. do their golems change slightly as they age, or are they forever in the appearance of when they were converted?

It's mentioned that some hunter weapons can gain passive abilities beyond fast healing. Is that a full hunter trait, and if so what are some guidelines? Do we have to post it somewhere?

Has there ever been a case of a hunter getting their original weapon broken to the point that they needed a different one in order to fight? How well does it play on their psyche if so?

2013 A:
1. They are still alive and growing! You'll find that most weapons to grow and change physically with their hunters, some grow larger, or more elaborate, of gain additional functions, though they should essentially be the same type of weapon!

2. It's not a full hunter only thing, but full hunters do have a better grasp of them, here is more information on passive abilities, you don't have to post it anywhere (though you should probs put it in their journal) but if you want something that's not listed, you should contact an admin/pm the mule with your reasoning

3. Yes! Hunters have broken their weapon before. If the weapon is completely dead (which nobody has done yet) the hunter's physical condition soon begins to fail.v They are unable to bond to another weapon, and are basically doomed to an increasingly awful, inevitable death on top of the psychological problems (which would be player determined.) Hunters with weapons that are simply broken but still alive, use a special runic weapon temporarily until the weapon if healed enough to be summoned again without destroying it (this usually happens when a hunter + weapon reaches the next stage of their development.) Basically: think of a damaged weapon in terms of a damaged student. They are HARD to actually kill, but it can be done. Most damage can be recovered from as long as they're given time to heal. The psychological state of hunters with damaged weapons depends on the player.

Quote:

Q:
are hunters allowed to paint their rooms/make any modifications to the dorm rooms (like they'd buy the paint and stuff)?

2013 A:
Yes! Though full hunters are more likely to do so, as they have more space/money and probably won't move any time soon. Trainees/Intermediates mostly just stick with painting/small appliances, where full hunters have been known to add in personal kitchens, stupidly luxurious bathrooms, ninja training rooms, dreamatoriums, and other such things.

Quote:

Q:
For those Hunters with locks because of the meta, do their weapons' golems wear the locks as well? Or do they only show up in weapon form?

2013 A:
Nope! Tech isn't that advance yet.

Quote:

Q:

What would a sample of dirt from Deus look like under a microscope? Just dirt, or are there any microorganisms? BASICALLY CURIOUS to know how far down the food chain the 'FEAR KILLS THINGS' extends~

2013 A:
mainly extends to things that are sentient/aware ~ but its not exactly "rich" soil ~ since weaponization advanced and the fog of insanity grew to hang heavy over it, Deus Island hasn't been a place that allowed for much in the way of healthy growth ~ with the fog gone, over time, there'll be changes in the soil ~ as it becomes more capable of nurturing life once more.

Quote:

Q:

If a hunter and a monster hook up, why does the hunter get sick?

Could they get a charge instead.

2013 A:
only if they attack the monster with their weapon during ~ otherwise ~~~~ only ice crotch ~ <3 Hunters -are- able to handle it better than regular humans tho, like they don't have heart attacks and s**t from it so congratulations on your interspecies romance

Quote:

Q:
Hunters trying to use other hunters' weapons tend to go all "Here's Johnny!"

CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THIS I AM VERY CURIOUS

2013 A:
Now, weapons and their hunters share a bond, and for the weapon, the hunter literally completes them. Weaponization creates a gap in their core which makes them unable to function as a person, which the weapons bond later fills. So when they're with their hunter, they are relatively "normal" and there is a balance within them, they can be a person.

In the hands of another hunter, that bond is disrupted, and the weapon cannot communicate as a person, the only thing that carries through prolonged contact is the one thing every weapon has: a deep hunger for FEAR and the ability to take it by violence. Depending on the strength of the weapon vs the strength of the hunter, this hunger may overwhelm the hunter's own sense of self, leading them toward bloodshed with little restraint.

Quote:

Q:
Are the tentacles (or other sea life like mermaids I GUESS) considered minipets in any capacity and/or can they talk through an artifact

If a horse tranq works for 24 hours on a horse

2013 A:
Trainees: Roll 2d12
Intermediate: Roll 2d10
Full hunter: Roll 2d6
Mark: Indefinitely

Q:
Room Upgrade: You can finally upgrade your dorm rooms to a small suite within the security of the dorms themselves. You get your own rather luxurious bathroom, shower facility, and even a small walk-in closet. Your suite has two separate rooms, a small kitchen, and a den. Fridge, microwave, oven, TV, and basic furniture is included.
+50 RP points

If two hunters are sharing this room can the points be split between the players or can only one hunter pay for the room

2014 A:
Points can be split, but if they separate later, one hunter is gonna be sol @ those points.

Quote:

Q:

If a Hunter wanted more minipets for tests. Could he just go on the island and capture some? If so, could he just use a net gun and carry a portable tank or something?

2014 A:
Minipet resupply can be done by going to Halloween in a golem and trapping them!

Quote:

Q:

So we all know that wielding another hunter's weapon makes you cray, as discussed above.

Would the weapon's personal opinion of you have any impact on that process? If the weapon liked you, would it slow it down/stave it off? If the weapon HATED YOUR FILTHY GUTS would it speed it up/be worse?

CURIOSITY

2014 Answer:
Not to great extent, they can't help themselves. The greater impact will likely be due to their emotional state during the aftermath.

Quote:

Q:
What is the average timeline for those effects to set in re: holding a weapon you aren't bonded with?

2014 A:
It depends on the rank of the weapon vs the rank of the hunter trying to hold it. Holding a leader's weapon can make you go from 0 to murder within moments. Holding a hunter's weapon that is less than your own rank is more like, severe discomfort and irritability unless you hold onto it for a couple days.

Mission Rewards Points:

* Once total, not once per level.

HELLO ZOO : D

I had an idea that I wanted to bring up about playable mini-NPC hunters! NO WAIT DON'T RUN!!

I love the idea of Htown citizens, but obviously there's no direct analog for Deus. There is wayyy too much death and dying and SUFFERING.

I propose something LIKE:

- You must have at least 1 intermediate hunter to make a mini-NPC
- These mini-NPCs reside at a base/off island at all times.
- The mini-NPC either cannot come to deus at all because of reasons(TM), or only for the duration of leave. The rest of the time, they spend their time at a base.
- The mini-NPC cannot be higher level than intermediate, so no getting bossy. They cannot advance like citizens.
- PERHAPS with the stipulation/option? that you are signing up for SUFFERING and POSSIBLE DEATH, since ...so many NPC hunters die...so many...!
- Or maybe you can use them on missions as disposables at player choice! The option for THE GLOOM without it being mandatory.
- OR ANYTHING ELSE! these are all just super loose POSSIBLE IDEAS and i think any combo/limitations/etc are important to have, to balance the weight of 'these are not for permanent/forever/main' use!

If you think this is interesting/possible in any way, I would totally be willing to set up a casual player-poll to gauge interest! sorry to sound like an oxiclean saleswoman ILUUUUUUU
