Maybe he would reflect later that it was so like her, to be tuned in more to the racing of her heart than anything, whereas his fear was just a nebulous, ever-present anxiety as detached from his body as it was possible to be. His heart was racing too, of course--he realized that now, but it had taken her pointing it out, because the machinery of his body had been neglected and misused for so long that a hiccup here or a malfunction there was the normal course of things. In a state of dispassionate horror he watched his misshapen hand sink right through America's chest, and he yanked his hand free of hers and back and he saw, very clearly, the crawling shapes of the edge of her too-vibrant tattoo, the heart or whatever it was that had thrummed against his fingers thrashing in a frantic attempt to escape her ribcage. "Don't let it out," he barked. And he wanted to run, but the panic had not yet become so entire that he was willing to leave her alone with her awful lung parasite, or whatever it was.

Whipping her head around, she hissed, "There's something in here with us? ******** no, we gotta get outta here, s**t." Grabbing at his hand once more she practically ran out of the room, seeking out a better, safer pool. Upon seeing the next one, she let go and rushed toward the water, drinking in a handful.
The world shifted and she was shorter once more, the girl instead of the woman, but still the fear did not die down. "Taym?" she whispered into her headset, voice younger and even more uncertain, "where are you?"

"O-oy, is someone here?!" She shouted, her ears picking up the sounds of someone else speaking. Just the thought of others being in here made her panic, and she backed up against the pool with her claws out.
As she moved back, her foot caught on her tail and, with some amazing flailing, she fell into the blue pool.
And there went her horns again.
"Jack dammit!" she cursed, dragging herself out of the pool. With a frightened glance around, she ran for the door before she had to deal with whatever it was that was in here.

"You didn't let me count to ten," said the headset, petulant. It was not Taym, because Taym did not sound like that, all sleepy and childish and malevolent. It sounded, terrifyingly, much like the Horseman they'd encountered earlier, run through the nasal Georgian filter of Taym's voice. "It's like you wanna lose. Wanted to be the hider anyway. Going to play it like sardines. Find the smallest-smallest place. If you can, with the--the walls moving."
He yawned into the headset. A yawn had never sounded so utterly nightmarish before. "Going to melt right in on you before I can find you. Bet I can hear you. Which one of those is you? You don't laugh like that. You don't cry like that either I think but I haven't heard you do it." A pause, and then, lazily: "Yet."

This pool seemed safe, he told himself, of course, he'd thought so of another one too.Still, he took another sip, half distracted by the sounds of people in other rooms. He had to stay away from them. It wasn't safe…they were surely armed, he knew they must be. Should he risk making his way to another room? What if they came in here?

Yves must have taken a wrong turn and ended up back at the pool that he had just drank from earlier without even realising it for as soon as he took a drink and found himself growing younger yet again, he muttered a curse at the sight of his prepubescent self that was now reflected by the pool water. This wouldn't do. No way. He had to find a way to turn himself back and get out of here if he was going to reach Medea who was currently at the top of the tower.
With a crack of his knuckles, he broke off into a sprint to the nearest pool he could find.

The sense of furious, bitter jealousy and rage had faded as Jordan left the shifting rooms in the deep void, and he had been left with a chilly, nauseated twist in the pit of his stomach; the emotions had been amped, turned all the way past maximum in a way he rarely experienced, but the seeds had been present before the corridor had sent them spilling over into full blossom. He'd known that he felt discontented and restless, upset in a way he couldn't articulate, but exposing the roots of that unhappiness hurt. A cold ball of shame sat in his gut. Was he sabotaging himself? Maybe he was. When he found the ornate door, he pushed it open without hesitation, stepping into the tangled, riotous garden with its jewel-like pools. Of course the door in the center would be locked. Of course he would have to drink from the pools to pass onward. He paid little attention to the other figures glimpsed behind the foliage; nothing was attacking him, and if anyone he knew was here, he didn't want to talk. The gold pool glittered furthest back, and he cupped his hand and scooped a sip of the water out. It was clear and cool and pleasant, and welcome enough after who knew how long spent in the desert. He knelt at the edge of the pool and waited for some transformation or dream to overcome him. Nothing seemed to be happening, and he frowned in confusion and rose, looking around surreptitiously. Was it just water? It couldn't be just water, not in a place out of the world like this. Bu he felt nothing. Was anyone else being affected? Perhaps he was the only one. Perhaps something was wrong. Quote: You drink from the pool of Insanity. Every single time you take a sip from the pool, your thoughts become more and more irrational. At first it isn't too bad but the feeling compounds until you are literally talking to people who do not exist in the room, and feel a strange compound of agitation and paranoia. You are easily excited into attacking.

The next room now had purple water. Poke really didn't want to drink from it, but since the door wouldn't open since she did..maybe if she took a sip..
"Oh...." She said, eyes wide after drinking the water. Everything began to blur, and strange blobs and shapes appeared in her vision. vat ze shitz is thizz..."
When she began to see magical sparking adorable ponies, she screamed and ran for her like "HALP ZE PONIZ ARE GONNA EAT MEH"

The voice in her ear had America curling in on herself, mouth forming silent no's as he went on. Closing her eyes tight, America rocked back and forth, tears freely streaming down now. The self control of earlier had gone with her maturity and now every was so much more."Taym," she choked wetly over the headset, "please. Please don't." A sob broke her voice on the last word. She gripped the walls with white knuckled hands and made her way to the next pool, eyes seeking out possible danger. Hoping that danger wasn't her friend. "Please, please, please..." the whispered mantra continued until she had a palmful of water to her mouth. "Please, please, please..." she continued, voice growing higher and softer as years fell back once again. She was alone here with monsters.astrazilla text to: Kon im so scared kon taym isnt right unable to sendastrazilla text to: Kon i think he wants to hurt me unable to send (-6 years, ++fear)

"Please please please," he mimicked, all gently chiding and mocking at first, punctuated with nervous little laughs, interrupted as he stooped, shaking and darting glances over his shoulder, to scoop up a palmful of water. "Please don't, please don't, please don't," he mocked again, his voice trembling and sing-song. "Please. Please."
The word echoed in America's headset, pitching steadily upwards on a rising tide of panic, shifting slowly but inevitably from taunting to raw, unleashed, total terror, and broken up by a sudden thump and the sound of all of the air leaving his lungs at once.

Yves came to a red pool this time and wasted no time in taking a drink from it. He smiled to himself when he felt the growth spurt that could only mean that the earlier effects of the pool of youth was being cancelled out by the water of this particular pool, taking yet another sip again as he felt his strength return and his wings revert to how they were originally.
Gazing down at his own reflection, he chuckled to himself when he realised that the water had not only returned him to his original self but had also added a couple of years to his age as was evident by how much older and covered in scars he looked now. Well, this would have to do and it was with that thought in mind that he started towards the exit that was open to him now.

He made a wild bolt down the corridor from the yellow pool, and turned rather sharply to the right, he'd heard …something, he was sure of it from the left… from the b…blue wasn't it? He wasn't sure anymore. He just needed to get into a room. He turned right again and skidded to a stop in front of a purple pool breathing hard and his throat dry. He felt so… little and…and what the HELL was wrong with his feathers?!
He just needed a fast drink of water, that would help…really.
"…oh…sh…shoot….I…i fink I ha…you b'fer." He realized after he took another drink of the intoxicating water. He gave a sound somewhere between a hiccup and a chirp.
"I…Im going to be stuck here forever…I know it." He wailed.

If it hadn't worked, maybe he should try again. Jordan bent to scoop another handful of the glittering water, sipping it and shaking drops off his hand. He could, he thought, feel the water evaporating, a creeping coldness that irritated him. He wiped his palm on his pants, turned to look out through the wild garden, to see if he could see anyone else. Voices echoed through his headset, familiar but not quite, people he maybe knew but not quite, please please please in a chorus of terror and mockery. Was he really hearing this at all? Maybe it was all in his mind. Maybe he was imagining it. Maybe he was finally ******** breaking down at last. A little wildly, he demanded of the channel, "Who's there? Who is it?" The sudden cease in his screams was accompanied by the soft, choked sounds of a young girl trying very hard to stifle her sobs. Not because she was too proud or too strong to cry; not because there was a time and place for tears and this wasn't one of them. Eyes wide and hands clamped wetly over her mouth, the girl desperately did not want to be heard. She did not want to be found the man who was out there.
Maybe if she was small, maybe she could be so small that he could never find her. Soon she was nine years old, a small, thin figure shivering violently in the depths of her scarf and coat.

Picking himself up from where he'd fallen, he crept along the hallway towards the nearest door, half-terrified, half-furious, and when a voice demanded who was there he fell silent out of spite.
He did not want to drink the water, which was moving in a bizarre and entirely unsettling way. He did not want to look at whatever it was that was breathing warmly down the back of his neck. Closing his eyes and trying not to whimper into the headset, he drank.
Nothing happened immediately, not until he turned to go and his body felt still less cooperative than it had moments before, and some bit of his raw fear--it didn't drain away, not exactly. To say it was replaced would be inaccurate. It was, instead, dimmed, held back by a bulwark of complete and utter exhaustion. Numb and buzzing, he dispassionately examined his terror, dispassionately examined the way the floor was moving, and he whispered into the headset: "So ******** tired."
Had he been less possessed with panic and exhaustion, he might have noticed that there were a few more square inches of scalp receiving cold air. He did not. This was likely for the best. Also likely for the best was the fact that he could not see that he was going to start greying at the temples before thirty, or the deepened creases at the corners of his eyes. He had quite enough to worry about. Or would, if he had the energy to worry about anything. Depersonalized and disassociated, his terror hung suspended about three feet away from his actual body, present but alien.
