YOU HAVE MY SWORD (OR DAGGER)!This was definitely the most challenging task that had been set to them yet, Canon observed, darting into and out of range of the mannequin. Her stamina wouldn't last forever. If she couldn't get in quick enough to hit it, she had to use energy to get away. She didn't think the mannequin would suffer the same trouble. It wasn't alive. The blow delayed its swing long enough to allow her to dodge back once more. YOU HAVE MY BOW!He had quickly drawn a second arrow, letting it fly from his bow the moment he had pulled back the string. An action he would quickly regret as the arrow soared wide of the target, missing it completely and sticking in a tree to the left of the dummy. Damn, next time he'd take a moment longer to aim, and keep a better hold on the arrow when pulling back the string...this was proving more difficult than he expected. YOU HAVE MY SWORD (OR DAGGER)!And again! Canon darted around behind the mannequin and slashed at its hamstrings. She almost felt like she was whittling wood instead of fighting an opponent. The mannequin turned to try and counter, but she'd dashed away again. YOU HAVE MY BOW!This time he was more cautious, holding the tip of the arrow fast as he notched it into the bow and drew back the string. Deep breath, aim, and release! The arrow flew, cutting through the air on a path straight for his target. The arrow struck home, but not with the power needed to significantly damage the dummy. A consolation was that once again the blow had caused the dummy to stagger backward, halting it in its path. YOU HAVE MY SWORD (OR DAGGER)!Canon tried a bit of a different tactic, wanting to see if she could catch the mannequin off guard. She danced about the platform, leading the shambling figure to a tree trunk. The Skark hovered near the trunk, tempting fate as the mannequin came within range. It swung... and Canon ducked behind the trunk. The sword bit deep into the wood, preventing the mannequin from removing it quickly. As it struggled, Canon rolled around the other side, and delivered two vicious slashes to its abdomen. Yes! YOU HAVE MY BOW!Now he was growing frustrated, angry at his lack of success. Each time he was careful to aim, and each time he let the arrow fly true. But despite the arrow striking the target, despite the dummy staggering backward, it seemed he was having no further affect on the target. Glaring down range, he could see no damage apart from the mark left by his initial arrow, and even that one had done minimal damage. What was he doing wrong? YOU HAVE MY SWORD (OR DAGGER)!Her limbs shaking from the length of their battle, Canon decided that she needed to end this now. The mannequin had obviously been hurt badly from that last blow. If she was quick enough (if she had enough energy left!) she could get underneath its guard and deliver the killing blow. Breathing hard, she studied its movements, and waited for an opening. There! Canon burst into a full out charge at the mannequin. The mannequin raised the sword to block the incoming blow, but Canon ran right past it, up the trunk of the tree she'd used as a shield earlier, and launched herself at the mannequin as it was turning to meet her. There was a loud clash as their two weapons met, the mannequin proving just fast enough to block the attack. But not fast enough to prevent Canon from wrapping her tail around its sword arm. The mannequin tried to punch her off, but the Skark just rolled with it. Her attack had knocked the mannequin off balance, she used the momentum of her falling body to swing it past the point of recovery, and they both fell to the platform. Canon scrambled up, and drove the dagger with all her strength into the throat of the mannequin. It stopped moving. Canon fell flat on her back and took a few moments to regain her breath. HP: 21 - 3 = 18 Damage Dealt: 6 Opponent's HP: 2 - 6 = K.O.! YOU HAVE MY BOW!Alight Sheridan, relax, breath, don't let your frustration get to you. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, another deep breath. Peering down the shaft of the arrow in his bow, he wait a moment, keeping the dummy in his sights as he aimed the arrow. And then he released the string, the arrow unleashed toward the target, this time striking true and sinking into leather 'flesh' of the 'knee'. The dummy buckled under its weight as the arrow struck, stopping dead in its tracks. That was more like it. YOU HAVE MY BOW! If only returning to the platform did not require the utilization of cruel and unusual torture devices. What he would not give for a ladder or a set of stairs. The mantodae might have been looking a bit greener than usual as he all but lurched onto the platform, trying to settle his stomach. He looked around to try to distract himself, eyes alighting on the weapons. So perhaps today they would be utilizing them. Unlike the first day of class he no longer truly felt intrigued at the thought of learning weaponry. But he would not back down from the challenge of it. He stood, watching closely as she began her demonstration. The dagger appealed to him in the sense that it was close range and based on speed and evasion. Those were both certainly attributes that he could relate to. He had made a knife, and tested it, so perhaps it would be similar to that. But on a deeper level he just loathed it. Loathed it for the implications that he may need to rely upon it. Next was the sword. He had used one quite a bit, having taken Professor QB's class many, many times. Yes, that also meant that he was used to wearing a miniskirt, but that was not this course. And nothing here looked like the sword that he had used for that class. It was focused somewhat on sheer strength. He was strong, but he knew better than to think that he was solid. Alexander had more than enough strength to overpower him when it came to that. Which left the bow. She picked her bow up, holding it for a moment as she explained it. Long distance would be beneficial, though sniping opponents and not giving them a chance seemed wrong to the mantodae. On the other hand? Hunters did not fight fair, and it was in his best interest to do anything he possibly could to get an advantage over them. And it could be invaluable for hunting. She was explaining that the benefits disappeared in close range. That was fine really. He could always drop the weapon and use his fists. And that really was what made up his mind. He could not do with his own hands what the bow could do. It was something he had no hopes of accomplishing really. He carefully noted everything that he could about her stance, about what exactly she did with her hands, feet, everything required for a successful release. When she allowed them to chose their weapons he moved immediately toward the bows. It would be disappointing not to get his hands dirty, so to speak, but this was something with real potential use. He glanced at the Horsewoman several times, checking her weapons for its size. He found one that seemed to be about the appropriate size for him, but when he tentatively placed his hands in the correct positions it was obvious that his over-sized hands were not going to work that well. He chose a slightly larger one that fit his grip a bit better and moved over to the left side of the platform, awaiting instruction. Finally it was time to put this all to the test. Before moving to take his position he reached up to slip his goggles into position. He identified his target as it began to move toward them. He did not rush though. He took his position, planting his feet carefully and bringing an arrow to his bow string. He sighted down the shaft and pulled back carefully. Despite the strain pulling on slightly different muscles he had the strength to hold it for a moment to double and triple check his aim before letting the arrow fly. It struck, though only in the arm of the mannequin. Despite that it was knocked back to the starting line. Riley was eyeing the daggers with a wistful glance. She was good at small, light weapons, she knew that. She wanted to take them up and prove herself, but she'd already made her decision. It was clear the teacher favored the bow, and Riley picked up the bow and arrows in hopes that the instructor would favor her attempts. She moved into position and arched an arrow into the crook of the bow, aiming directly for the distant mannequins head as it came charging at her. She sunk the arrow into it's shoulder instead, and it did not stop coming for her. But still, her first shot and she hit.. she was content.

YOU HAVE MY BOW! So taking his time had paid off. The mannequin was already beginning to move again as he took up another arrow, almost at a leisurely pace. It was unusual for him to not be in a rush, but his opponent was just a distant figure, ever so slowly creeping toward him. He gave the arrow a quick examination for any major flaws before placing it on the bow. His feet were carefully set again by the time he brought the bow up. Aim. Hold it. Check to ensure that the target was in his sight, and then releasing the arrow. At the last moment it began to wobble, and he quickly reacted almost faster than should have been possible, everything just moving into place. He watched it sail toward the target, hitting the opposite shoulder and once again managing to knock it back. Nothing major, but not too bad either. And now he was getting to know his weapon and enemy. There was a slight dip has it flew but nothing major. And he how now shot on both sides of the mannequin. Just to...aim for the center. That was all that he needed. He was going to get better. Even if it meant using a weapon. YOU HAVE MY BOW! Her second shot was less spectacular, as the arrow flew right over the mannequins head, knocking it back as the tail end whacked it across the forehead. YOU HAVE MY BOW! He rolled his shoulders, loosening them up as he kept an eye on his target. Two arrows, two hits. All he really needed to do was continue to take his time, to relax. Feet sliding into position. Arrow to the string. Lift it up in a fluid movement. Hold. Sight. Re-- His fingers were not accustomed to the position of holding an arrow like this. The clawed tips twitched, and he hissed as it released before he was ready. Premature discharge. There was little satisfaction even though he was successful, because he knew that he could have done better. He was not here to merely get the job done. It pierced the mannequin but it just kept coming, approaching at a steady pace. He stretched his fingers carefully, taking a small break as he sized up his target. YOU HAVE MY BOW! Riley took her time settling her third arrow. She'd been aiming for the head this entire time, which was a difficult target, and perhaps not her best strategy. So, she aimed for the heart this time, and held the arrow carefully as it wavered in her hands. She counted to three, exhaled, and let the arrow loose - it whistled through the air, smacking directly into the mannequin's neck, and knocking it back off it's feet with the force of it.
