YOU HAVE MY BOW!

Another glancing blow! Jove's aim was inconsistent, but he was preventing the mannequin from advancing too quickly. It was harder than Cybele made it look, but the pup had one advantage. He was willing to practice and practice and practice until he had perfected a skill that interested him.

YOU HAVE MY BOW!

Another blow to the mannequin, this time a shot to the shoulder that took a chunk of 'flesh' off, but didn't halt it's advance. It was still moving, and the pup realized to be really effective, he would have to learn how to drop it in one or two shots. The hunter guns could hit from a distance, and bows would work better if he had surprise on his side. By the second shot, there would be no surprise to help him.

YOU HAVE MY BOW!

Jove pulled the string back again, ears flattening, tongue sticking out with concentration, but this time the shot missed. It went over the thing's head, neither doing it any damage or knocking it back. It continued to shuffle, unhindered by the arrow in it's torso. That's probably how hunters were too, they just kept coming even when you knocked them back... Good thing he was just practicing.

YOU HAVE MY BOW!

The pup reminded himself that, practice or not, the teaching methods of the War tribe could very well get him beaten down anyway. Sure he wouldn't dissipate, or at least he hoped he wouldn't, but being hurt that much wasn't fun either. His arrow glanced off the thing's scalp, throwing it's head back, but leaving it unharmed as it staggered back.

YOU HAVE MY BOW!

Another arrow, another glancing blow. Where were all the arrows coming from anyway? He examined the feather fletching as he pulled the next one up to his ear, and noticed they were all very finely made. It must have taken a lot of work, and now they were just launching them off like nothing. Looking around he noticed Tybalt was having similar luck.

The pup reminded himself to go bring all those arrows back after he was done fighting off the mannequin.

YOU HAVE MY BOW!

The pup took a deep breath and whipped off another arrow, his ears perking dramatically as this one hit the doll and stuck. He would turn it into a pincushion yet! Well, if it didn't shamble forward enough to get him. Thank goodness it was so slow!

SWEET VICTORY!
Sosiqui

YOU HAVE MY BOW!

The pup gave a short, feral grin as he struck the mannequin again. Maybe he was starting to get the hang of it with all that repetition. A non-moving target might have been best for a true beginner like himself, but he couldn't deny this mode was more interesting. Considering his difficulties meditating, any attempts to look inside himself and find true focus while aiming at a steady target would be in vain.

He quickly drew back the string with another arrow... and frowned. The mannequin was no longer shambling forward, it was lying face-down on the ground. Jove brought the bow down, easing the tension on the string.

That was all?

The pup whined, and wandered back to the rack to set his bow down. He gave Cybele a questioning look as he did so. Maybe they could do more of that tomorrow...? If not, he might have to wait until he got back to school to learn more. Surely there had to be some weapons lying around the campus, there were always dangerous things sitting around if you looked hard enough.

YOU HAVE MY SWORD (OR DAGGER)!

Canon's gaze wandered between the three choices, but she eventually chose the dagger. Skarks had never been known for their depth perception, the bow was out, and with her small stature, the weight of sword would only slow her down. So, the dagger it was!

She gave the blade a few swipes through the air. It wouldn't give her the reach she would've had with a staff, so she had to be quick.

And then the fight began. Canon immediately darted in and tried to slash the mannequin. This mannequin seemed much more capable than yesterday's though. Its sword blocked her dagger, taking the Skark by surprise. It then rammed her, knocking her back forcefully.

Recovering as quickly as she could, the little ghoul looked for another opening.

Her next attack received the same answer, and Canon proved no quicker than before. Smarting from the body blow, she nevertheless brought the dagger back up into a fighting stance.

Third time's the charm! Seeing a thin opening, Canon dashed in and laid a thin scratch on the mannequins leg. It didn't stop her from being smacked knocked back once again. But Canon felt she was making progress! Smiling, she danced around the mannequin, looking for another opening.

There! Canon darted in once more, dagger at the ready. She could tell almost immediately that the mannequin would be able to block her once again, so she feinted back one more. She hadn't done any damage, but she thought she was starting to anticipate the mannequin's movements.

The dance continued. Canon couldn't seem to get close enough to the mannequin to do any damage, but she managed to evade its counterattacks. The two circled each other, and Canon couldn't help but feel impressed with the clans ability to create such efficient training dummies. This one was better than a few of the horsemen she'd sparred with!

Finally, Canon managed to breach the mannequins defense, score a solid slash with her dagger, and get out of its range before it could retaliate! Progress! Canon was breathing hard, but from the smile on her face, it was plain that she was enjoying herself.

[ENTER, day 3]

Sheridan stood silent, attentive, perhaps for the first time truly listening to the instructor rather than trying to dissect her words and motive. He still not trust her or the other horsemen, nor was he likely to change his mind easily, however he had come to realize how much he had to learn, and how much she could teach if.

Now he listened with interest, his gaze drifting over the various weapons with intent curiosity. He was not so...exuberant as some of his classmates, however even he was eager to hold the weapons in his hands, to test himself at this new (to him) means of combat and grow stronger in his skills.

A flicker of his tail, Sheridan stepped toward one of the weapon racks, examining the various choices between swords, daggers, and bows. It was not a decision he took lightly, a thoughtful contemplating expression as he tested each in turn.

Picking up a sword, he turned it, looking over the blade, then the hilt. He felt it's weight in his hand, shifting it from his right hand to his left, then back to his right, then making sure no one was too close he gave it a test swing. Its mechanics intrigued him, but it felt heavy, awkward, it made him feel unbalanced. Perhaps if he'd had more practice he would have felt more comfortable, but today was not the time for this weapon.

Placing the sword back on the rack, he chose a dagger, again examining the blade, the hilt, passing it from hand to hand as he felt the weight and feel in his grip. He liked this one, short perhaps, but it felt light and easy to hold, a test swing revealing the speed with which such a weapon could strike. With such speed he could move in, strike, and quickly retreat out of range while he circled to strike again, it suited his style well.

But it was the third choice that had most caught his interest, and as he now held a bow in his hand, a small smile crossed his face. This particular bow was one of the longer of the bows, most likely made for one of tall stature. The curved wood felt smooth in his hand, light to hold. He pulled back the strike experimentally, testing the feel. A ranged weapon, he could move around his opponent, staying out of range, striking before the target had a chance to catch him.

While both the dagger and bow were of great interest to him and he would have liked the opportunity to try both, for this day it was the bow that won out, the dagger he would save for another day. He was ready.

His weapon chosen, Sheridan stepped forward on the platform. A deep breath, he placed an arrow against the string of his bow, then raised the weapon to the ready. He drew back the string, eyes narrowed, he gazed down the shaft of the arrow at the target down range. The string released with a twang, the arrow flew, soaring down range toward the target.

Though the arrow struck, it did not strike true, hit the 'arm' of the dummy and ricocheting off and into the canopy. It seemed he had barely pierced the target's leather hide, but the arrow strike had caused it to stagger and fall back, halting its advance.
