I adore both the anime and manga. I haven't reached the ending of either though. The storyline is just so unique and interesting to watch. Plus, I love the character interaction.
I wouldn't call it the best, but it's definitely up there. <3

In my opinion it's one of the best around.
I've read the manga to the end and am now watching the anime. Both are great. Though, i think the anime goes a little fast, but that's not a bad thing really. I'm also happy that it's every simaler to the manga. Sometimes the anime is horribale. What I really love about it is that you can really get into the characters and it makes you think.

Well, I haven't finished the series but I've had 5 different people explain the story from beginning to end ... -_-;
(way to spoil ti for me...)
But I digrees, it has a very unique storyline and its characters are focused on trying to outsmart their opponent first. Little do they know that they think exactly the same..
Unfortunatly eventually one gets too cocky and the other wins...
^^ I love watching Death Note... Its fun to predict their next action!!! Mua-ha-ha-ha! twisted

The ending was sad.

i haven't read the manga and i currently watching the anime. i've finished watching the whole first season and so far i'm addicited to it. it's really good. my favorite characters would have to be Light Yagami and Misa Amane

I loved the anime, started reading the manga, and watched both of the movies~
I loved the movies and the anime... Haven't gotten too far into the manga though.
I am an L fangirl. It's so bad... Lolz. I even sit like him... that's a bit much, I know, but I can't help it. SPOILER I cried when he died END SPOILER.
I was happy at the end of the series though. I thought it was a good ending... that may be because I hate Kira and liked Near and Mello... though that may just be me.

i loved it.. honestly if you think about it, there really wasnt any other good way to end it. that was the perfect ending imo.

I don't really mind the ending, though it really is quite sad. SPOILER: I read the manga first, then watched the anime, yet I still cried when L died in the episode. END SPOILER

Finaly got round to reading the Manga. Managed to go from start to end in a single weekend. Reading sessions that long are brutal.
A very interesting story, and (for the most part) good characters. I can't stand Misa, however; . Apart from that it was fine though. Strangely enough, I couldn't stand Mello at first, he grows on you though, especially at the end.
Least and most favorite part of the story (Both the same part, surprisingly):

When L dies, worst because L was awesome, best because even up until a couple of pages before it, I still didn't know who would win. As an extra note, the final few chapters, where Near and Light are explaining away all their feints, counter-feints, tricks and plans is BRILLIANT
