LEMONS now I hope I have your attention because I found out that the sour fruit cleans chemicals off of anything, well almost anything.Well it explanes why pinsale works and I cleaned my room with them so they are good for more than cleaning chemicals.

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned this yet, but what about Simple Green?

... and then there's feminine toiletries and diapers that are reusable. They're cloth, and so when you've used them you just chuck them into the washer, wash them, lather rinse repeat. I was worried at first that washing them would be a waste of time, but then I thought about how much water goes into petroleum processing. So, it's still better.

What's Simple Green?

look for cleaning supplies at the supermarket that are more environmentally friendly, biodegradeable, and such. Also, buy bamboo wood products instead of tree wood. bamboo is actually more like a grass than a tree, because it grows very quickly, and the trees from old growth forests don't have to be chopped down. There are also biodegratable plates and bowls!

Re-use soap. Yea, you know when you get those little slivers of bar soap, well instead of throwing them away there is this niftty contraption that you can put them in and mix with a little water to make liquid soap. I don't know what it is called but it is a small container with strings of metal beads that are attached to a crank and you just crank it and it turns to liquid. I have my great-aunts one and it is great.

If you ever find out more information, please tell us! I'm sure all of us would like to know exactly what these things are and where to find them.

Hankies instead of Kleenix- at first I thought it would be nasty to have snotty cloths, but it really saves paper.

For mice: cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil. They hate peppermint, and will leave.

Ants: Red pepper, and I've heard tell of turpintine, but that could be worse than the poisons.

LED lights (we've used them on our Christmas tree, but I don't know if they sell them for regular household use...) save electricity. Reading by candle-light is incredibly hard, I wouldn't recommend it. sweatdrop

Orange-peel oil is a good alternative to pestacides, and for roses, a little bit (a teaspoon per gallon, I think?) of liquid Ivory soap in a spray bottle with water will keep just about everything detrimental to them off.

Composting is a creation of heaven.

Caution with the orange-peel oil, though, I don't know specifics. Only that it supposedly works really well. It would be horrible if they citric acid ate all the plants. xd

Bamboo can grow anywhere though, or almost anywhere. We've got a grove out behind our campus that I like to walk to sometimes. It's very peaceful. A friend of mine back in Oregon also has some in her backyard.

It's not native, it has to be planted, but from what I've heard, once you plant it, it grows like a weed. smile

For cleaning products and such, you can also use Seventh Generation - I've used their surface cleaner before, and it works even better than Greased Lightning! eek
