That's some major BS, from the sounds of the things his friends said about him, it's highly unlikely he would kill his family and them himself. mad

And Ronin's right, not the brightest now, are you Poison? There's no way the WWE would go to that much of an extreme for ratings. And don't even start about the McMahon death angle, he can do that because he's Vince McMahon, and it's so obviously fake.

Thanks to those of you who have made sensible posts about this situation... Thanks Drwow for posting this info (I work the night shift now and miss news...although tonight Ronin called me at work to tell me). As Captain as much as I hate to ask this.. please don't repost the news reports over and over in threads.. it'll cut down on traffic.. thank you.

I am saddened and DISGUSTED with how some of you have reacted to this. If you've been around prefessional wrestling for more then a year or four you know when story is story and when it's REAL LIFE. Allow me to be emotional...please don't trash this thread with consipracy theories and garbage talk. Let's just get to this straight away.. Benoit is indeed gone.

Do you remember what happened when Owen Hart died? Eddie or now even? Have you seen this kind of thing in the WWE before? If you had you wouldn't think for one second that this was story. I'm not trying to be mean.. it's just the "typical" way that WWE handles situations like this. I'm GLAD that Vince dropped the "awe I'm dead" crap and was there for the fans and the WWE family in the time we all needed him to be. Vince always drops storyline for actual life altering events like this.

IF WWE was going to play this as story do you think for ONE second that Vince would have been there? Don't answer that because the answer is NO. Would Stephanie be talking about being married to Hunter? Don't answer that either.. the answer is NO. Would people like Edge be breaking down and crying (therefore pussbagging their characters). HELL no. I think my point has been made... It's not story.. It's real life. Accept it and let's actually give the fans a chance to mourn this MASSIVE Loss.

To rebut the speculation set forth in earlier posts:

1st off.. Chris hasn't had a drink since around the time that you were born. Riddle me how he was drunk then?

His other children aren't very young and could have very easily been out with friends for the weekend

The reason the press is "hiding" details is because it's a police investigation... If you watch the news you'll notice that details are ALWAYS limited in situations like this.

This is NOTHING like what Vince pulled a few weeks back in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Ya know why? Well for one Vince blowing up" was taped story. Everyone knew it was story and there wasn't anything on the national news media reporting about this. As you can see the Associated Press has been following Benoit's story since the news broke. You'd think that Vince's story (should it have been real) would have equalled the same national attention.

There usually isn't a distinct cause of death (or at least the situations surrounding one) until at least an autopsy is done. That and there's an on going investigation... therefore we aren't going to hear about it. Give it till tomorrow at least

How was Benoit acting strange lately? That's just backward thinking... His demeanor was no different... He was driven towards a goal... the ECW title and he was well on his way to getting his title.

Please... No more "What if he's alive still" posts...I wish it was true just like everyone else, but sadly it's not the truth. Many people are in a state of shock over the loss of a wrestling great and we don't really want to have to deal with posts being so ill-informed and frustration inducing.

If others want to post meaningless things that are hurtful towards the memory of Benoit do so in other guilds.. I won't tolerate that crap here. Let's keep in mind that this is a time of questions/heartache/and any other high emotions. Please be respectful towards the memory of Chris Benoit and his wife and young son. Also please respect the members of this guild by keeping negative posts out for now. It's not a conspiracy.. this actually has happened and now we have the time to grieve in as many ways as we can. Now is not the time to set others off. I really ask that you keep your crap to yourselves. This is the only time I want to say this. Consider it a warning.

For those of you that are like I am.... as very big fans of Benoit. I promise you this... I won't let anyone here ruin his memory by things said here. I'll do what I can to remove the posts and causes if there are situations that arise from this very somber time.

Please everyone feel free to post your memories of Benoit.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

That'll probably be the last info until later on in the day today (it's Tuesday on the East Coast). Ronin and I will both check in when we get up for work. We will try and remain informed and keep you all informed (it's kinda hard working nights though, but we will do our best).

Oh DrWow... I'm going to edit your post title to reflect the time of updates... Hope you don't mind.

Yeah, you can edit the title

Are you saying you want me to edit my first post then?

Aye. For now, it's a wait and see to find out the reasons for this senseless tragedy.

As for memories of Benoit's career.... I think back to the mid-90's and his feud with Kevin Sullivan. Those were some of the most intense and brutal matches I had ever seen up to that point. That was obviously before I was able to watch ECW. Anyways, I remember those two actually fighting all the way up to the bathrooms and throwing each other into the stalls and smashing mirrors over each other's heads. Epic brawls, and VERY intense when it came to promo time.

Secondly, I have to say Benoit and Angle from the Royal Rumble 2003. That match was an instant classic, and the standing ovation Benoit got after the match just shows that not every wrestling fan is a drunken slob. They know a good match when it's witnessed and can show respect when warranted.

Third on the list, Benoit winning the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania XX. Not only that, he was the only wrestler to secure a submission victory in the main event of a Wrestlemania match. PLUS he made Hunter tap. A huge rarity. Just watching that match tonight during the career retrospect... it literally brought a tear to my eye.

And finally. Last but not least. I've stated this match as my favorite wrestling match of all time before in a previous thread. Chris Benoit vs. Bret 'The Hitman' Hart. 1999. Kemper Arena. It was the Owen Hart tribute match. My God. That match was one for the ages. I remember watching it when it happened and, despite the commercial breaks, I sat in awe of the clinic they were showing on FREE television. Factoring in commercial time, the match was between 28 to 32 minutes. On a Nitro. The class that WCW showed in letting those two performers have the match in tribute to their fallen brother and friend and the fact that those two went in and tore the house DOWN! Man.... that match is the one that cemented Benoit as a machine in my mind. I had watched him for four years prior, but seeing him and Bret go hold for hold.... it left me speechless. All I could do was applaud. I don't remember properly, but I believe my friend applauded as well. I'm not sure if it's on the Benoit dvd, but it is on the Bret Hart dvd. If you haven't seen the match before, I highly recommend it.

No that's ok.. I just want the title to reflect upon when updates happen so people don't post the same news a million times.

I was suprised to see that benoit had died. I was more suprised to learn that the current story is that beniot killed his own family then himself. Update from the associated press.

Edited because a lot of this has already been posted.
Link if you want to read it all: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/W/WRESTLER_DEAD?SITE=ILEDW&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

Here's the newest information:

Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Authorities also said they are investigating whether steroids may have been a factor in the deaths of Benoit, his wife and their 7-year-old son. Steroid abuse has been linked to depression, paranoia, and aggressive behavior or angry outbursts known as "roid rage."

"We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at," said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard. He said test results may not be back for weeks.

Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities were investigating the deaths at a secluded Fayette County home as a murder-suicide and were not seeking any suspects. The official who described the manner of death spoke on the condition of anonymity because the information was to be released at a news conference later Tuesday.

WWE.com hasn't released any information yet, but it would usually lag a few minutes behind the associated press (that is national news afterall). There's going to be a press release later today as well as a full on news conference. I won't be around this evening (nor will Ronin.. we have to work!) for either so I really hope my Mods can get the information to you as soon as it is released.

I'm still in too much shock to actually respond to the situation with emotion. I'm just sitting here hoping that this was a "Set up", but it's starting to look like my worst fears.....

Sorry to have to be the one to deliver that news to everyone, but it's Wrestling news and being the Captain I feel a responsibility to the information and to you all. Hang in there guildies...Maybe the AP is wrong!

I'll be back after midnight EST to update and see what you all have been saying *hugs*

I have read the news posts etc, with extreme disbelief. Chris Benoit was one of the best wrestlers around. He was technical one minute and extreme highflyer the next. He was a likeable guy-hekll, you could tell that by the wrestlers who honored him last night. When grown muscular men are squalling their eyes out, you know that it is over a person who has touched their lives somehow-he is someone that is respected, admired, loved. This is why I cannot wrap my head around the news stories saying that he did what they say he did. I refuse to believe it-it will take a lot to make me believe it. It is just so impossible to imagine.

I heard that WWE was issued a gag order by the authorities while the investigation is ongoing-which I can understand, but do not know how accurate that is.

I feel numb. I cried like a baby last night, then as more details came out, I was dumbfounded. I can't even begin to know what to think until the entire story is revealed. I know one thing-Chris Benoit was a kick a** wrestler, he had a never give up attitude in the ring, and I pray for peace for him, Nancy, and Daniel, as well as the rest of their families, friends and fans impacted by this tragedy.

No matter what-you are always a champ, Chris, and I will miss you!

I just wanted to stop here for a second to encourage everyone to post their feelings about what has happened... Anger/sadness/apathy/anything. I'll keep an eye to this post to make sure that no one disputes anyone else's opinions or feelings because they are only opinions and feelings.

I think it would be a good idea for everyone to get out there what they want to say about Benoit and the whole situation that has happened.

Please everyone feel free to post how you feel. No one will judge you (or if they do I'll have a nice little chat with them and remove their posts). Opinions are only opinions.. please make sure to not be a douche and let people say their peace about the situation so we can get past all of this and back to our regularly scheduled wrestling banter!

Poison.. you're breaking guild rules with the "OMG I'm leaving I hate you" post. If you want to leave I'm sorry to see you go, but the post is being deleted.. that's for the chatterbox... Not the wrestling threads (it's clearly stated in the guild rules). SO it's being deleted.

One final update and that'll be all I quote about this situation...

WWE.com has posted a timeline of events. It can be viewed here: http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/detailedbenoittimeline

The official press release from WWE (definately should be read): http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/benoitpressrelease

WWE's stance on what will happen now is pretty cleaar (to me at least) from Vince's statement at the beginning of ECW this evening:

"Last night on Monday Night Raw, the WWE presented a special tribute show, recognizing the career of Chris Benoit. However, now some 26 hours later, the facts of this horrific tragedy are now apparent. Therefore, other than my comments, there will be no mention of Mr. Benoit tonight. On the contrary, tonight's show will be dedicated to everyone who has been affected by this terrible incident. This evening marks the first step of the healing process. Tonight, the WWE performers will do what they do better than anyone else in the world – entertain you."

That's all of the information that's been released... and really the only detail left is a toxicology report which might take weeks to return.. More realistically it'll be a few more days before it comes back. I will make sure to find this information out for you all and let you know.

well, ok, Benoit was one of me and my dads favorite wrestlers. We sometimes called him stubby arms. Not because we didn't like him, but we always enjoyed that even though he didn't have the longest arms, he still somehow managed to get his arms around for the Cross face.

He was also one of the only mid-card (when he was) guys we would watch because he always put on a good performence, and most of the time, carry the match.

And the royal rumble match and Wrestlemania XX they showed this week on Raw, I'd never seen those before. (we don't order ppv) but those were easily some of the best matchs I've seen.

Wow, that felt good to get off my chest
