I guess people would call me agnostic... and no I am not as sangu says a 'fence sitter'. I spent most of my like is differnt churchs. Nearly 11 at a United Methodest church. The hypocrsy disgusts me to this day. I not belive in a higher power, but I agree more with the athists I know then I ever have with the christians I know.
I may go to my grandmother's church to help clean or set up with functions but the last place I want to be is in a service. I have a hard time listening to my grand mother "My jesus! Wounderful savoir!" Makes me want to gag. Like when the precher at my grandfather's FUNERAL spent more time talking about the wounders of god and being SAVED then the dead NASA scinetist how spent the last sevral months in contant pain.
I have more issues with how christans act then the thought of a higher power. I beleive that weak people need to believe in "God's mercy" Just to get by.
I'd like to have a few Christians talk about their veiws that are open and won't take offence.

Christians that talk about their views (not shove them in your face, or at somebody's dead face), that are open and won't take offence are not really christians. I mean, they may think that jesus was "the" man and stuff, but if they are open minded, then i can assure you they're not really christians. They're agnostic-believers. Especially if they know their biology.

And tenth, so far i haven't flamed ANY christian on this guild. If anything i was flaming YOU for saying that you're agnostic/atheist and then follow (and act out) christian values. And even then, i wasn't flaming you cuz you were acting christian, but because you dare to call yourself an atheist AND follow the "christian" way of life.

It wasn't ME the one who tried to flame christians with comparisons to hitler; it isn't ME coming up with jokes about the christian god (i haven't posted ANY jokes at all, except maybe a link to south parks vid of "evolution"); And it is usually YOU guys (sangu, tenth, caustic, dathu, etc) the ones that try to say "well that's dumb, yeah hitler is a christian but there's many racist/killer atheists too." And by doing so FLAMING those retards that don't have arguments against religion/gods other than they don't like to sit in church every sunday, or that don't know what they're talking about.

Other than that, yeah... i agree with you. Flaming christians disgusts me. It is their hypocritical books and attitudes derived from them that i falme tho, so *phew* i'm good then.

interesting point of view, but i beg to differ. if you think about it, an atheist cant define what a christian is, just as much as a christian cant define what an atheist is. if you dont believe in something, how can you define what it is without having a biast opinion of it?

I consider myself what you described above, but being open minded doesn't make me any less christian. it does the opposite. God loves everyone and he expects us to do the same. as i recall a commandment saying "love thy neighbor" ?

you can be open minded and not believe it at the same time. to be open minded can also mean that your not so caught up in yourself that you can see past your own view. it can also be to just be accepting of others and recognizing not everyone is going to believe the same thing as you.

to be christian is to be many things. to be christian is to be LIKE god. and that DOES include the following:

being open minded
accepting others for what they are (hate the sin not the sinner)
being merciful
kind and truthful
kind even to your enemies

etc etc etc

I love it when we get theists. There's nothing better than spreading their theology bear in an environment where they have no help from ignorant ideologies.

Mmmmm theists.

everyones a critic smile but i really stand by what i said. i dont think anyone can trully define something if they dont believe it in the first place. but my statement can be vague in nature too. but i didnt know really much anything about atheist until i joined the guild. but i still refuse to pretend i know and define what an atheist is because im still learning things ive never heard before about atheists.

sometimes it best to just ask before assuming? he did have some valid points though, because there are christians out there that sometimes pretend that they are, or they're apostates who have fallen from the faith, some don't want to return and they end up being more open minded to something that isnt of their religion.

in THAT case i can agree with Anonymous2 with what he said. im sure theres other examples too.

*shrugs*
Every belife or group pf people have Zealots. Christianity just happens to be the one that is most famous for them.

When my sister coverted to judisum her best friend told her "I can't be friends with someone who is going to hell." What gets me is that the main differance in belifes that the Jews have over Christians is they don't think Jesus was the savoir... prophit yes savoir no.

I dislike Zealots more then anything. (As a history major)
Did you know that throughout the world's history all wars have been started over one (or more) of four things
1) Greed
2) Land
3) Religion
4) Sex

my question is, would a christian/ religious believer actually join an atheist guild? yeah its accepting but won't most of them turn away? Or not even look this up?

...Perhaps for the same reason I joined a Christian guild? Because they're curious as to the opinions of the members.

Welcome, SaintChaos! ^__^

If you mean define as in definition, then yeah it's been done. Unbiased too. Or am I missing something here? (english has so many alternate meanings) BTW you're the most open minded christian i've ever have interacted with. 3nodding

DerShtinktier
I believe in god.

Shocker eh?

But quite honestly Atheism is the closest thing there is to my personal beliefs.

Let me explain. I believe there is a god, but my definition on what god is is very unconventional. It's not something you could pray to, and he/it is definitely not omnipotent.

I believe that we, as just humans, can't accurately and unbiasedly explain the nature or meaning of god. I also believe there is a limit to what science as we know it can explain everything that is out there. It'd be extremely arrogant to say that even given unlimited time we'd be able to explain literally every phenomena down the smallest detail. Basically I feel that god is the mystery, the part of the universe which holds the unifying and fundamental basis for all existence. The very fabric which holds reality together.

There is more to what I believe than that, most of which alienates me even further from conventional religion, like I do feel very strongly in the theory of evolution.
User ImageAre you a pantheist? Contrary to the ideas of some, pantheism doesn't necessarily imply a belief in any conscious deities, and is a form of semi-spiritual atheism for some people. I float somewhere between agnostic atheist and pantheist. I don't believe in any sky fairies, per se, but I don't discount the possibility that I may be wrong about that. I do, however, feel that it is likely that there is "something" out there that people mistake for their personal deities... something unconscious that connects the whole universe somehow. I don't call it "God" (I don't call it anything, really), but I feel it in fleeting moments of oneness with the world.User Image
