OliviaFalconer By the way, 16 is not too young to be reading adult fiction. When you start to read at a younger age, you get tired of young adult fiction that feels aimed at someone below your level. So you start reading either non fiction or novels aimed at adults. I wish I'd just picked up one of those reading lists and started reading the classics when I got tired of the youth section. Also, Harlequin is something to be avoided. Not only are they heavy with sexual scenarios, they aren't typically deep reading. My grandmother had an attic full of them, and the plots all seem to run together after you've read a few.

Nothing wrong with that. I started reading adult romance novels at 14. I love them.
It gets kind of tiresome having your Mother steal a book from you when you're half-way though reading it, though.

Sora Agrotera ok, heres the deal: in my life, reading books, i got pretty bored reading young people books. so i was looking on my librays catolog, the public libray, and was looking for a ficton book, with vampires in it, Derren Shann fan. so i was looking when i found a book called, Bitten and Smitten. so, i request the book, the next two days, it comes in, i go a pick up the book and find out that it was a romance book, and i was like 'awww crap, a sissy book'. but when i read it i was now like, 'wow that was a good book'. and i need to know: is it weird that a 16 year old like me, is reading a adult romance books. really i need to know, cause right now my best friend is making fun of the books i read, and its pissing me off. One: I read romance novels to, there is nothing wrong with that. Two: Adult Romance novels can be quite graphic, so I would hardly call them sissy. Three: You shouldn't be friends with a book hater

OliviaFalconer Actually, as long as you stay away from the "series" romances (Halequin, for example) I actually own a few of those books.. XD I can't remember if they're cheesy, or what... but I know I haven't read them a lot.
@ Sora :: There's nothing wrong with reading romance novels at your age. Hell, I'm a year older than you and I'm reading them. I've been reading them, since I was about 14 or so. (Found them on accident.)

I've been reading and writing adult romance since I was 13. It's really no big deal.
My friends all think I'm an insane pervert, but I could care less about what they think.

I'm with most everyone here on this topic. Absolutely nothing wrong with reading romance at sixteen. Face it, a good portion of sixteen-year-olds have kids these days- in my opinion it's better to be reading about it than doing it at sixteen.

Caiou I've been reading adult romances since elementary school. If it's wrong, I don't wanna be right! So have I! The books for my age weren't long enough so I started raiding my mom's romance collection when I was 12! Then I started going to the library and checking out dozens of books at once to keep me busy for the week. (I lived in the middle of nowhere, with lots of snow...long, boring, winters.) Some of my friends would snatch my books at school and start reading the dirty passages out loud.. but that wasn't until seventh or eighth grade, thank goodness.

As a 16 year old male I should be worried. I like romance books but they must have a good story. I do read other books like suspense and the occult but I love a good romance scene.

The Lost Desperado As a 16 year old male I should be worried. I like romance books but they must have a good story. I do read other books like suspense and the occult but I love a good romance scene. Don't worry, you're not alone; roughly 10% of romance readers are men, and the numbers are climbing. I've even seen one survey that estimated the number of romance readers who are male is closer to 20%! As for a 16-year-old reading romances, no worries there, either. Almost 10% of romance readers are under 20 years. I myself first read a romance when I was twelve...Nora Roberts' Divine Evil. 3nodding

I agree Christine Feehan is a good author, as said by Kiena the Wolf

If age matters, I think I'm the one who should be worried. I'm 14 and I started to read romance books when I was 12. Your friend has no right to judge.
