ok, heres the deal: in my life, reading books, i got pretty bored reading young people books. so i was looking on my librays catolog, the public libray, and was looking for a ficton book, with vampires in it, Derren Shann fan. so i was looking when i found a book called, Bitten and Smitten. so, i request the book, the next two days, it comes in, i go a pick up the book and find out that it was a romance book, and i was like 'awww crap, a sissy book'. but when i read it i was now like, 'wow that was a good book'. and i need to know: is it weird that a 16 year old like me, is reading a adult romance books. really i need to know, cause right now my best friend is making fun of the books i read, and its pissing me off.

Actually, as long as you stay away from the "series" romances (Halequin, for example), there are some well-written romances out there. Heck, I love just about anything Mercedes Lackey or Sharon Shinn writes, and they both do romance (they're more know for fantasy). I haven't read the one you mentioned, but now that you have, I'm going to check it out. (If you like vampire stuff, maybe you'd like Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series--they're mysteries with a dash of romance.)
By the way, 16 is not too young to be reading adult fiction.

I see nothing wrong with that, after all I figure reading is like gaming (( I do both)) if you are old enough to understand it without freaking out at what the game entails (( like blood or horriffic sights, or in a books case visions )) Then you can read anything you want no matter how old the person that book was intended for!
Seriously? Read what you want! so long as you can handle it the sky is the limmit! Almost literaly!

Yeah, they are right you should read what you enjoy. Besides 16 is not that young considering I kind of stumbled into reading romance novels in fourth grade. Now they are mainly what I read. If you really like romance with good stories try: Nora Roberts, Johanna Lindsey, Teresa Meriodos (sorry if I spelled that wrong), and Jude Deveraux. Those are just a few of my favorite authors. Oh and by the way I am only 17 right now and I took a lot of rap because of the type of books I read so I really do understand what you problem is because I went through the same thing. Most people do not bother me about it anymore though so its cool.

I've been reading adult romances since I was eleven years old so I don't see anything so surprising about it. If you like it, read it, I always say.
I've been reading a lot of romance over the last few months. However, I finally do have an author whom I believe that I adore. I finished When I Fall In Love by Lynn Kurland this week and I loved it. I checked out a couple more of her novels when I returned the one that I finished, and I look forward to reading them.

I think it is a bit strange that you are reading them, but yeah, if you like then then go on reading them! I myself am a Darren Shan fan and I get teased about it, "weird kid with his satanic books, going to sacrifice us all to satan" LOL I love it when ppl overreact.... but yeah, if you like 'em read 'em!!!

I bought my first romance novel when I was fifteen. I recently found it in the myriad stacks of books that occupy my office, and me and a friend were taking turns reading passages out loud in dramatic, breathy voices.
Ah, to turn it into a multi-player entertainment. "His thrusting love muscle" does not sound nearly as cool out loud.

Romance books are cool the first few times you read them, but once you've read a few, you've read them all. I don't go for romances anymore.
16? That's not too young. I read my first romance novel on accident at 13. I thought it was grotty rolleyes If you get it, and you like the books, then why the hell not?

I don't think 16 is too young to be reading romance novels as everyone has already said. As long as you understand it and it's not bothering you then you should be able to read anything you want.
I read my first adult romance novel about two years ago, I think, it may have been three. So I was either twelve or thirteen, but I thought it was interesting. Right now I'm going through those cheesy teen romance novels pretty quickly though, so it's not exactly adult romance but it's close enough. My mom reads a ton of romance novels though. I've tried to read some before but they just weren't interesting to me, I couldn't relate to the characters.
If you like vampire romance then there's this series my mom just finished that's a vampire love series. I don't know if it's any good since it didn't read them and I can't remember the author right now but I know some of the book titles in the series are Dead Before Dawn and Dead as a Doornail, then I'm not sure about this one but I think one is called Club Dead too.

16 isn't too young. I've read several romances in the past few years, and I'm only 14. If you can understand what you're reading and not be all "Eeeew! That's sooooo wrong! What is this craaap?! OMG!" then you're okay. Reading books is different from real life. If you've matured enough mentally, you can read anything you want, whereas if you aren't 21, you really shouldn't be drinking alcohol. I don't like to make a point of reading romances, but if the story and plot are good, I will read it.

I'm 13 and I read some adult romance. It's no big deal. Oh, and my mom keeps going on and on about this series of books that starts with "Undead and Unwed" the author is Mary Janice Davidson. They're a comedy/romance that has to do with vampires, so they're a bit lighter, but apparently they're good.

There is nothing wrong with reading "adult" fiction at 16, you're mature enough to handle it. Just watch out for Harlequin series and such, way too graphic. If you like vampires, check out this site.
