I agree with pretty much everyone here. Yes, there are ugly ones out there. Yes, there are pretty ones there too. It's just the niche we're in. If you're ugly, they won't let you be a cheerleader (as not to demotivate the guys, as sexist as it is) and if you like comedy club you won't be boring to talk to.
Personally, I feel I am not ugly or stellar. I have a nice face, I guess, and I have a (I guess) nice rack. I could stand to exercise a bit more, being a bit overweight, but it's not ugly and sort of nice compared to all the stick figures running around nowadays.
But out of those cheerleaders, who won't let themselves eat anything but salad (exotic food and protein all the way!) I have one up on them. I know how to REALLY talk to guys. As in, not just to get a date. Like to be *gasp* FRIENDS with some of them. And it goes a little like this:
"Don't you hate that one boss in Metal Gear Solid...?"
Seriously. I scared the heck out of a random soccer player when I recognized the 'bling' he had on as Sora's pendant from Kingdom Hearts. And although we have nothing in common, we're pals now. And at first he didn't believe that I played videogames. Because I was too 'pretty', even if I'm considered a bit of a nerd at school.
So how's that?

*appears in a flash of lightning* Yo all. I think i can shed a little light on the subject. I am a guy, but I am also a big supporter of Gamer Chicks. Unfortunately I have to say that I used to believe that old stereotype. I say that because any girl that I met that was into videogames wasn't very attractive. Althought I'm not really that attractive either so I think I live up to the stereotype expectations. Check out my myspace if you would like to confirm. http://www.myspace.com/leonconner I stopped believing that years ago though. I actually have a girlfriend who plays videogames and she is very cute, but she is not the first one to disprove that stereotype to me. I have known for quite some time that cute girls play games too. Other than my gf I haven't met any yet but I have seen them on G4 and at conventions and videogame tournaments. I'm sorry if I insulted anyone. I had to be honest though. I did believe the stereotype before, but I don't now. Sorry this is so long. Just thought that I would put an honest guys thoughts in on this. Later all. *bows to everyone and vanishes in a flash of lightning*

You know. I've never met any other girls that play lots of video games like me. = But I have given guys some funny looks when they say "You've got a hobby?" I'll say, "Playing Legend of Dragoon, bitches!" razz

all or most of my friends are gamer chicks, and to be honest they're a lot prettier than most of the girls at my school, so, yeah
i think the reason some people think gamer chicks are "ugly" is because they think we spend so much time with video games that we dont work on our looks at all, when in fact most of us are naturally beautiful so we dont have to =) cuz if you think about it, most of the down to earth girls are the ones that are so secure with their looks they dont have to wear 80 pounds of make-up so they actually do what interests them the most: video games
as for me, i've been told i'm pretty but i'm not letting it go to my head, and i'm definately not going to fall in with "the crowd" i like being independent

That's such an obnoxious stereotype. A friend of mine (who wasn't my friend when I first met him) told me "You can't play video games, you're way too cute." When I proceeded to berate him in public, he told me it was a joke. We've been friends ever since. I play video games, but I still take the time to look decent and exercise. I mean, I don't spend hours in front of the mirror but I give myself at least a minute or two before classes/work. We can do it all. We're gamer chicks.

It's funny because I know an major-obsessive gamer guy. He's 6'3'' tall, and so thin you could slip him through a shower ring. He's so pale he could pass for Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy VII. His hair is sometimes dirty and he has kinda scruffy peach fuzz.
And he thinks that women will throw themselves at him.
Uh-huh. No. Then again, when I hang out with my boys (MY boys! ha!) they all consider me a 'lumpy guy' anyway. Like I'm a really pretty male with breasts.
I don't mind. The image is furthered when I take a foam boffer and beat up said ubergamer when he tries to imitate Saito Hajime from Rurouni Kenshin. I can beat up most of the guys I hang out with, sadly. sweatdrop
He beats me in Soul Calibur, though. Only because he has no life and is glued to his console when us saner people have things like- I don't know- HOMEWORK to do. Stupid academic high school. Stupid friend and his tech school. Blargh.
I'ma go play God of War to vent now, folks. twisted

Hmmm... I've never heard of this stereotype before. Well, either way, it's just nonsense. I know plenty of girls both girlish and tomboyish and most of them love playing videogames just the same. biggrin It'd take someone really ignorant to come up with that stereotype. stare

Meh...who cares? I paint my nails, I collect hello kitty stuff (a bit too much maybe), and I wear make-up whenever I go out in public. And I'm damn proud too! twisted I also publicly show my passion for video games, and I hang out with the nerdiest of nerds in my school! HELLZ YEAH!! twisted

I hate when people automatically think that just because we're good at video games that we're loazy and no how to do nothing else but use a joystick. Sure I can dubug a computer and beat KH2 in less than 12 hours but I can also whip your butt at football and probably have a higher GPA than most regular people. It's such a cliche. It's almost as bad as the fact that girls are automatically forced to like pink!

The stereotype probably came about from two sources. The males who were beaten by girls who seriously got their pride injured, to put us back down in our place they decided to start calling us ugly. And the females who dont play video games and have no understanding or desire to, who feel threatened by our knowledge and being able to bond with guys over them.
I care not what anyone calls me, I know I am beautiful and I am happy with what I got.
I know there is a pyp thread somewhere in this guild- for those of you who want proof we got some seriously sizzling gamer chicks.
