Vuja smirked, she knew the feeling he was describing, family was odd in that way. While she wouldnt openly admit it, she liked their nagging in a very strange way. At least it meant they thought of her. She grinned widely and asked, "Well, who thinks you need a new attitude, and who votes for polish?" Things like that could be very telling.

"Mother and sister, in that order," Amaroq replied promptly. His tone grew a bit sullen as he continued, "Of course mom's the herd alpha...but Great Spirit forbid anyone acts like her." He tossed his head with a snort. "She can just get used to it, or I'll just touch by home base a bit less. We don't really spend much time all in one place anyways...she says it's more like a 'network.' So I'll just check in now and again to help if needed, and fulfull my son's duties." The last two words were accompanied by a rather accomplished eyeroll.

Nuja helf back a twitter of laughter, "Ah, I know about problems with mothers. I don't quite think mine really...gets it, you know? Her patterns of thinking are just a bit outside the loop of reasonability sometimes. Very impetuous." She nods, and continues, "But I love my family, no doubt, even if I too am a bit of a lone wolf, so to speak. They know I love them, thats all they need. If they needed more I would be there."

"Must be one of those things that's universally true, one way or another." Amaroq smirked a bit at the pun, though it'd take him or his sire to easily see it as such. "Oh, that's for sure. I've heard of a few players around...but if they mess with Miri they won't be around for long." He pawed a bit, one hoof digging into the sand. "Especially not the sort that consort with kalonas. Bringing that sort of risk down on another is..." He shook his head with a loud snort of disdain and disgust.

She nodded thoughtfully, "One hears about all sorts of people... I preffer not to judge until I've met them, but I can see why you would be worried. I have only brothers, so I don't particularly have to worry about their virtue, they'll keep it if they want it."

"That's true. Hmmm..." Amaroq glanced at Vuja, face nearly impassive save for a small smirk sneaking around the corners of his mouth. Abruptly he reached over and gave the braid in her mane a tug, whirling away to leap into a run. Laughing, he called out, "Catch me--if you can, Vuja!" He'd see just how much those chains really did slow her down, if they did at all. He wasn't really that fast of a runner, but that just meant he wouldn't be tempted to 'let' her win. Nope, he'd give it his all, competing with a female or no.

Vuja almost instinctively siddled away after he tugged her braid honestly bewildered. She blinked, once twice, and then it dawned on her that she was going to lose if she didn't hurry up and run! She kicked up her feet, following behind him, her chain jingling and rattling noisily, making a rhythm of her pace. Rooster tails of sand were flung from her hooves as she tried to catch up.

Amaroq knew that he'd gained a head start with his little stunt, but he knew also that this head start wasn't going to last long. Almost anyone he knew could outrun him, even if he could sometimes outlast them. He was built for strength and endurance, not speed. He glanced back and laughed, gaze challenging the mare to overtake him. If she was even slower than he was, well, that wouldn't be any good at all would it?

Vuja pressed her efforts harder, quickly gaining ground after him. She whooped almost triumphantly, calling up to him tauntingly, "I've almost got you!" To illustrate her point, she put her head down and made as though she was going to n** at his hind legs, but she wasnt stupid enough to really put her head down there, she didnt want to be kicked in the face...

"Almost is the key!" Amaroq shot back in a tone just as taunting as hers. He started bringing his legs more underneath his body, collecting himself. But doing so sacrificed speed, and he lost ground. He tried to lengthen his stride again, but knew it was probably too late...he was as good as caught. Kicking out didn't really enter his mind, not with a mare that he was starting to see might be an equal.

Nuja leant forward as she sprinted, nipping at his tail and giving it a light tug, before letting go, and whirling around rapidly of her heels, kicking up a spray of sand, and darting the other way, looking over her shoulder. The tug should have said it all, but she called out tauntingly, "You can't catch me."

Oh s**t. The look of dismay on Amaroq's face as she whirled around was almost comical. He scrambled to lunge back into the chase, even though he knew speed itself wasn't going to be his ally. Strong and sturdy he was, not fast. But even so...endurance ran in his blood. If he didn't give up...he had a chance to catch up.
Even if her fleeing rump was proving, somehow, to be terribly distracting.

"C'mon slow poke!" Vuja jeered in teasing, looking back over her shoulder. To her surprise and pleasure, the game was on, and she continued to dash along the beach, looking behind her to see if he continued to follow every few minutes.

Amaroq, stretching out with a ground-eating stride, smirked a little as he noticed Vuja glancing behind her every few moments. Why, she almost looked worried that he might not follow! The upside was that he was gaining more ground than he had expected to this soon.
But if she tripped over something and ended the race, that wouldn't do at all. Winning by default just wasn't his style. "As much as I enjoy seeing your eyes, you just might trip if you don't watch your feet," he called out with a laugh, swerving past a bit of driftwood.
