Davy Jones rose the ship from the bottom of the sea and Jack rechristened the Wicked wench the "Black Pearl," and was given a debt to pay by Jones for doing so (which you see jack in the second movie trying to escape from). Jack was captain for several years, but it was primarily captained by Barbossa, who held a mutiny.
Originally, the Pearl was the Wicked Wench, owned by Beckett of the East India Trading Company with Jack as the captain. Jack was labeled a Pirate and the Ship ordered to be sunk for his release of Slave cargo.
I say whoever controls it at the time is the owner.

Oh, darn...
I think Capt. Jack will always be the Pearl's owner.
No matter how many time he loses her,
he'll be her owner.
He has to be.

I think it belongs to Hector {Barbossa}. He's captained it the longest and...
PotC 3 Spoiler Alert: { It's currently in his posession. The Black Pearl was recovered from Davy Jones' locker and in the end of the movie Barbossa makes off with it, so it belongs to him. }
If you don't want a spoiler, don't highlight that. ^

Just thought I'd say this, the Wicked Wench was the name of the ship in the POTC ride in teh first battle on the fort, so...homage to the ride =]

I think its Davy Jones ship, becaus he braught it up for Jack Sparow for 13 years, and it had been 13 years, so it cant be jacks anymore, its Davy Jones. that being said does anyone know how old Jack Sparrow is sweatdrop

Jack. Barbosa totally died. Once you die you lose property rights or something.....Oh yeah....Lizzie murders Jack...He deserves the ship to make up for that.

You could argue its Elizabeths. She caused Jack's death, meaning she took over as Captain.

i wonder what was the time frame in which the storyline happened?
was the movie put on fast forward?
afterall it must have been a big time gap in between the time jack got eaten by the kraken and the begining of POTC 3 when they were in singapore.
Actually i think i'm just confused. sweatdrop
