Blue eyes flashed at that, and he half-snapped, "Does it look like I approve?" Almost immediately though, ears laid back and he took a step backward, ducking his head. "I ... I'm sorry, you don't deserve to get yelled at," he murmured, getting himself back under control again.
He knew that he, himself, hadn't done much better ... but. The first time had been while he still thought his twin dead and then ... then ... with the other, it had been a momentary lack. A drunken one-night stand sort of situation. He hadn't planned for anything to come out of either of those times. And each time it had been a single time. Curse his apparent tendency to cause such things with one time.
This, though ... it seemed as if Vergil was ... doing it intentionally. Planning to have a relationship ... to leave him. And it hurt ...

She took his anger relatively well, at least better than most would have handled the situation. Then again, she came searching for him knowing the chances of an approval was close to non-existent, so she didn't really expect much out of their conversation. She would've liked to said "It's ok, don't worry about it" like most would, but that's not really the case here. It wasn't really what she wanted to say, but what she felt she should say. Though, the result of if she said it or not would end the same. It would not be alright, and neither of the two would resolve anything anyway.
Dante was lucky he didn't tell her the reasons of his little...incidents with the result as children. She would've definitely lashed out on him, calling him irresponsible, unthoughtful and just trying to cover for himself using excuses. That probably wouldn't have ended up too well considering the nature of the two.
Lenneth wasn't sure of Vergil's intentions in this relationship shared by the two of them, but she had hoped, or at least felt, that this relationship was genuine. She didn't exactly know why it happened, or how...it just...did. Though if she knew what would happen eventually...she would probably end up being the one hurt more than any of the three involved in this...relationship.
Inhaling deeply, her voice was still as firm and commanding as ever despite Dante's painful words, "Even if you do not approve...It is still a matter between only Vergil and myself. I do not know what you are thinking would be the result of this relationship between himself and I, but all I ask is that you consider it once again. Keep in mind that no matter what bond you share with your brother that the two of you are still brothers and nothing more. I am not...stealing him away from you, if that is what you think. Please be considerate to your brother and his happiness, too.
I hope that...eventually you will approve. But of course, that matter is left entirely up to you, as it is your decision and yours alone. It is probably best that I take my leave...before things turn for a worse." At her remark about the two of them being brothers, she didn't mean any malice in it. It was just merely a reminder about the situation the two of them are in.

At that, Dante literally snarled, though he cut the sound off after a moment. "You don't know anything about what relationship we do or don't have," he half-growled, taking a step closer to her, ears laid back. "So don't presume you do."
In a way, though, she was right ... this wasn't, apparently, any of his business. It was between his twin and her. Dammitall. He remained tense for a couple more long moments, then turned, shoulders slumping.
"Fine," he said softly, every line of his body now almost radiating barely hidden hurt. "If it's what he wants ... can't really stop 'im, can I?" His tone had a strange sort of note in it, hopeless, almost ... lost. Maybe his brother would be happier like this. And if that was the case ... what need was there for him to be around at all?

Dante was correct in that statement that she wasn't in a position to tell him what the two of them had. Lenneth, however, wasn't the type to back down without a word nor the ignorant type. Through the conversations she had with Vergil she knew enough about the two of them to at least make a general assumption. No matter how much the two were in denial, they still had to face the facts: They were brothers, nothing more and nothing less.
Taking a breath in slowly, she didn't want to make matters worse than they already were. She meant no harm in her words, and certainly didn't consciously intend to pick a fight with the crimson twin. It was hard not to snap back with the first words that came to mind.
Her face still carried that calm, yet cold demeanor as she spoke, "You have a bigger say in what he wants than I do. Your bond with him is much closer than mine is, or ever will be. If you encourage him otherwise, I do not doubt that he will at the very least consider your words. I do, however, ask that you do not think of this as him being stolen from you. No one person can possibly obtain all the love of his or her desired person. Not even you, nor Vergil, nor myself." Each word held a sort of wisdom and kindness to it despite what impression it might give off.
Lenneth wanted to get along with Dante sincerely. If he thought she was stealing Vergil away from him, he was way off track. She wanted Dante to understand that the two of them would share Vergil's affection in different manners now, not having a tug-of-war over his heart or anything like that. Besides, Dante shares his affection with others aside from Vergil, too, right? If that was the case, which was highly likely, then Dante had no reason to be so hypocritical.

He looked up again at that, barely hiding the hurt now. He didn't blame Lenneth in all of this ... it wasn't her fault. It was just that she was here, now, and telling him things that he really didn't want to hear. So he was snapping and upset ... but it wasn't her fault.
"There's not really a point in me talkin' to him," he murmured quietly, calmer now ... slowly pulling into himself, hiding. It wasn't quite as cold as his twin could get, but it was closer than he'd been to that state in a long time.
"S'not your fault ... I don't think you're stealin' him or anything. Don't ... don't worry about it." And though he felt like he might choke on the words, he murmured, "Hope you two are happy together."
