Drego642 Delhome /Tr/mp/et/ Baritone = the King of Brass!!!! What he said. razz Anyway, I'm also a Percussionist, and I've buzzed into a Trumpet before. I had the same problem you do with the high notes, and the low notes were no problem, and after some consideration, I chose Baritone and found I a great embrochure for it. I think I would suggest Baritone or Trombone, unless your options are restricted to Trumpet or Tuba. In that case, it depends on your lungs and your embrochure (the way you tighten/loosen your lips to buzz into the mouthpiece). What is the highest note you can hit on a trumpet? And do you know how to pedal? Highest note I can play is like a g on the staff. I have no idea how to pedal or that it even existed. lol. My choices are tuba or trumpet. If I learn to play tuba I can pick up trombone. And other instruments if I want to.

For instance, when I pedal on a Baritone, I can make it sound like a Tuba wink It takes a while to get used to, though. Do you run out of air alot when you play?

And I only run out of air when trying to play the high notes.

Well, i used to play the trombone...which was back in middle school, but then when i joined band for highschool, my brother told me to try tuba... the first time i played it, i whined, and complained saying "OMG! its sooo hard to play the low notes!!" and "Crap! this thing is too heavy for me!!!" But then after a few months of practicing playing the tuba, and alot more fun stuff with the sousaphone...i find it really easy to play... But it's up to you... "You need the Bass, to keep the band together"
Tubas and Trumpets will rule the world! And the Woodwinds will tremble at our feet... Muwahahahahahahahaha....*cough, cough* wahahahaha...*chokes, coughs* hahahahahaha..*wheezes* ha ha...thats enough...

Well dude, I can help a little. I'm a tuba player and my sister is a trumpet player. Tubas (pros): It's easy to play No need to do "horns down" or really concintrate on horn angle don't have to worry about being set or relaxed get to be noticed ^_^ Tubas are just awesome like that!! Just because I say so!
Tubas (cons): hard to turn from marching left or right Have to be in time otherwise other people mess up U have to polish it. Take EVERYTHING apart and polish it. Have to be turned at a certain angle so that the horn angle is good. u mostly sometimes bounce while marching back Is NOT the instrament you would want to trip over a rock with
...I probably forgot a lot but here's some!

TUBAAAAA. IT IS THE GREATEST INSTRUMENT EVER CREATED.
I played the flute before, and until I tried the tuba, I could never make sound come out of a brass instrument! I'm having a little trouble getting to a g on the bass clef staff (the high g on the staff) but otherwise, it is majorly fun. But if you're going to be marching, make sure you're able to lift a sousaphone. 3nodding I didn't actually check, and now I'm having a lot of back pain ('tis my first marching season on sousaphone 4laugh ) but I love it!

I would just go for the instrument that you need in the band the most. If I was you, I would go for Tuba. (Sorry, I just HATE trumpet.)

But if you had the choice of only the trumpet or the tuba..come on dude, there is no comparison. Tuba all the way

I play the trumpet and i say go for trumpet because it is awesome biggrin . I had trouble with high notes as well when i first started but now i get them with almost no problem and it sound great. Tuba is cool too though I am thinking of trying it maybe if my teacher lets me one day mwahaha i will just sneak in the grade 9 class and play with them for a bit. Though pros of a trumpet are it is smaller and more portable than a tuba. I think you can play more melodies on trumpet but then again i haven't really heard any tuba solos but my friend in band transposed some for it and now he plays these awesome songs on tuba. So i guess it is up to you but I would go with trumpet biggrin
