[. 聖ルドルフ .] I don't see anything wrong with being interested in a foreign culture, and while it does irritate me that they try to be something that they are not and never will be, it's their decision and not mine. What does bother me is the fact that they are only interested in Japan because of its music, comics, and cartoons. Otherwise, half the world could care less about the island nation. After all, if it were manhua and manhwa that were popular, these same fans would attempt to pass themselves off as Chinese or Korean.
As much as I dislike the fact that a lot of these fans are ignoring their own heritage and culture simply because of comics and cartoons, to each their own. If they want to continue to be ignorant, then let them; the only time it bothers me is when they actually think they know what they are talking about. I will never allow some narrow-minded otaku try to tell me how to speak Japanese (and I've actually had to argue with otaku who think they know everything about Japan on the Japanese language) or to try to tell me about the Japanese culture when most of them know next to nothing about it. But, Koji Murasame does make a good point. On top of that, most of the Wapanese/Japanophiles are young and anime-obsessed. They may continue to love Japan and maybe eventually appreciate its true culture. That's what happened to me -- I used to be an otaku, but now I'm just an uber-obsessed anime fanatic and I adore the Japanese culture, without trying to be Japanese. In fact, when I think of Japan I don't even think of anime anymore! It just takes time for them to mature; some will remain ignorant. But like I said, let them be ignorant, because arguing with them is fighting a losing battle. They'll eventually realize the truth.
Me, I love Japan. I would say I am obsessed with it. But I do accept the fact that I am not Japanese, and it doesn't bother me. In fact, I am extremely proud to be African, East Indian, and Chinese, and I would never give it up to become Japanese.

yup those are called Japanophiles, the people that scourge all the rest of us who study hard and actually want to learn more about the culture instead of living in the small anime world.
I have friends exactly like that except they're also [insert name of topic here]-philes
they wear their Naruto headbands and such and act like they know japanese, actually they see china and think anime -_- and they are under the belief that Anime is from Japan and Manga is from China and I'm like, "you freaking idiot...."

maybe they are just japanese at heart.... like me. I'm american, but I might as well have a japanese heart. I'd give damn-near anything to go to Japan and actually mingle among the people. Their culture is so facinating to me. I even sometime pracise some of their customs.

Yeah, no offense but if I had someone randomly PM me someday and say "Hi I'm British but I'm Native American at heart you see I've got all the books talking about them, the photobooks of them, heck I've even tried to join the Council heh....I'm just a Native American at heart : D" that'd freaking creep the hell out of me >.> so it must be the same for Japanese, it's just it's not only them but all asians.

Xule][neiyu its really annoying me all these little jrockers suddenly thinking they're japanese. being japanese actaully requires having some japanese blood, or least having been born in japan! you're not japanese because you listen to dir en grey and go around calling everbody "kawaii" or "-chan". you're not japanese because some how you got it stuck into your head that you're a "ninja" and wear those stupid naruto headbands. its really ******** annoying me! and whats more its dicouraging a friend of mine who has ambitions to live in japan, and actually knows something about the japanese people, because she thinks she's going to be mistaken for one of those posers. XD people actually do that?

I've seen it on both sides and it can be pretty annoying, but it just happens. I've known those dumb geeks who speak 2 words of Japanese and think they're Japanese or that they should be, but I've also met a lot of Japanese people when I was in Japan that seem to idolize America and wish they were American. Especially where music, clothing, and ideals are concerned. One thing I know is that I don't support some current Japanese fashion because it looks like they grabbed it from the 80s...and no one wants to remember those days...

missgothiclolita but umm yea i really hate the kids that think japan is only about anime and big boobed japanese chicks *cough* Someone influential in this guild, if I do recall, told me that Japan's females are rather flat. Isn't that ironic? I'm actually losing interest in Japan. Sure, I'd like to go there and all, but Korea has moved up in my priorities and is usurping Japan's position. I love being Korean.
