Purchase RP::
It had been...what? Three months now since he'd wound up here? Not that it was so bad of course...he'd settled in almost flawlessly...Farlest was, if nothing else, an adaptable sort of fellow and the people were friendly enough. The dark-haired young male had made a way for himself...as he always got on well with people.
Making his home in the lower district, which suited the more laid-back way he was accustomed to living, it was one day on his customary journey away from work...(customer service was his forte, what else?), and it had been a fairly stressing 9 hours...in which he'd been cussed out at least twice, and now, as a result, he had a pounding headache, and even if the irate customers had left the shop with a smile, Farlest felt like his own pleasant expression had been permanently glued to the front of his face...bah, screw it...he needed to do something to unwind...
A bath sounded relatively pleasant...and one of the girls at work had blushingly given him...but that thought prompted another longing sigh from the slender, green-eyed man. Dammit...he was lonely and the accident that had brought him here had also seperated him from his lover...
Bleh.
Whisking on down the street, he rather decided that he'd put on appropriately sappy music and take that bath, pig out on chocolates and wallow in his angst.
And it was during mid-depressing-thought that he noticed the little shop...candles and incense? Heh...well wouldn't that just top off the mood wonderfully? Wandering inside, he browed the shelves...when the red of one in particular caught his eye. Crimson...just like...his eyes. Immediately it was in Farlest's hand, and he chuckled quietly, "Mad Love" was it? Perfect. Irony was his stalker.
Paying for it with the lunch money he'd winded up not using, he trudged the rest of the way home, whistling a melancholy tune that he'd composed years ago...more years than he'd care to think about.

Now that you're home, it's time to find the perfect place to light that scent! However, strange things seem to happen when you do... particulary with the smoke...

Lighting Prompt Response::
Gods...this was what he wanted to do...he wanted to wind down...play some music...preferably angsty. Within Temptation sounded DANDY at the moment, but it wasn't mellow enough for what he had planned. Farlest ruefully thought it was a good thing he held no stock with tobacco, because that would be just peachy right about now...he'd heard that was relaxing to an extent.
He went straight to the bathroom...and plugged the tub, and started to run some hot water. Yes...a bath sounded absolutely beautiful...he wanted to dwell on his memories with the proper sort of setting.
There was a drawn-out sigh from the slender male as he paused, having set down his purchase on the bathroom counter. "I'm such a terrible sentimentalist..." He commented to the scent...and the oil burner... "...I also think I'm going crazy..." yes. he had just noticed he was speaking to an inanimate object.
Hnn...right. He slipped off his jeans and turtleneck and pulled on his bathrobe instead, padding barefoot out into the kitchen to warm up some milk...and at the last minute veered for the pantry instead. No indeed...he had made the momentous decision to go for that bottle of red wine he'd been saving. It fit his mood.
So now, with wineglass in hand, he made his way back into the bathroom, flicking the switch on the CD player that was just outside, mounted on the wall in the hallway. Mmm...slow and sad love songs. The name of the artist escaped him for now, but it was compiled for one purpose. The tragic ending, the lost romance...and that was the core of Farlest's soul in moments like these.
His arms slid out of the sleeves of the loose, crimson robe, and leaned under the counter for the long-handled lighter...a new-fashioned sort of thing, in his opinion...but it was easy to handle than the traditional ones. Setting the scented oil just where he wanted it, he tweaked the wick of the little candle...and with just a single click, touched flame to it. There was a low sigh as he sat back, waiting for it to waft towards him...green eyes lidded...mmm...had to wait for the bathtub to finish filling.

Just about to shed the silken nightrobe, as the steaming bath looked absolutely divine at this point in time, Farlest caught another whiff of the scent that spiraled up from the burner, and he chuckled...well...he did have that box of chocolates in the kitchen, after all...it would accentuate the wine.
Putting on his slippers, the left being a wee bit more stubborn than the right in accomodating his toes for some odd reason, the dark-haired male then stumbled out to the kitchen, already having let the drowsy, melancholy mood take over him...remembering loves lost...and one most prominently.
There was no one to share things with now... this house was silent, with nothing to tear his thoughts away from sad occurences.
...
He needed to turn up the music.
Nudging open the bathroom door with one fuzzy slipper, box of chocolate in one hand, he was suddenly greeted by a wafting tendril of reddish smoke...it curled around him as though it were a living thing, and then spiraled across the room to make patterns against the shower curtain.
Farlest's mouth was hanging open at this point, and the smell...it was almost overpowering, rich, and so enticing it should be illegal.
At which point it formed itself into the shape of a heart (complete with girly curliques) not a foot from Far's nose.
He dropped the chocolates.
"What the-"
"Heaven? I'm your own little piece!"
...ohgodthesmoke was talking. And it had the gall to finish his sentences incorrectly for him too. There was sheer panic for a moment there, as Farlest was torn as to whether this was some sort of bizarre religious experience or perhaps some kind of alien visitation.
Ohwait.
Suddenly the entirety of it coalesced, and standing there, locks damp with the scent which had birthed him, was a small boy, dark-haired and he posessed the widest crimson eyes you could imagine.
"Are you my daddy?" Insert puppy-dog eyes here.
"Uhmmmmmmm..."
Now we must make note here, that to render Farlest speechless takes either a supernatural occurance of the highest order, or a very snug gag, both of which has happened in his past, but we are not at liberty to say just how and where. Needless to say, it is signifigant.
The boy giggled and jumped, latching his arms around Far's neck, and the elf could do nothing but catch him on reflex as the child plastered effusive kisses to the older male's face.
"S'a good thing you're cute," He stated matter of factly, " I wouldn't want an ugly parent."

WTF is this? Explain, Woman at the Counter - {RP/Playdate} Amryx For some time, Amryx had refused to believe that Adrian came from her broken burner and was convinced that this was some ruse to get him out of trouble. She had attempted to look around Midori for an unfortunate parent or set of who had lost a sulky emo boy with weird hair, but her searches turned up empty each time.
However, as time passed, Amryx was forced to slowly take Adrian's story as truth. He didn't tell her his name (Adrian was something Amryx made up on the spot in frustration when the youth didn't tell her - she was tempted to name him Ashley, but refrained), he smelled strongly of Black Currant no matter how many baths Amryx put him through, and the way he just appeared, and the fact he was so emo... Amryx was wondering exactly how she was "lucky" enough to stumble upon an enchanted scent.
Did Olivia know about this? Maybe that's how she got Ment. The boy always smelled strongly of peppermint... Amryx was thinking about this on a particularly slow day in the shop, as Adrian was writing something next to her.
"What are you doing?" Amryx asked the boy behind the counter, as Adrian was more interesting than watching people walk by the window.
"Writing poetry. You don't want to hear it, but you're going to ask to hear it because you want to be nice, don't you?" The child miserably sniffed, and Amryx resisted the urge to smack him fiercely across the head.
"Humor me."
"Fine," Adrian sniffed, and began reading.
"My soul is an abyss of torment void of hope and life because I'm stuck with this miserable cow of a mother for the rest of my - OW!"
As it turned out, Amryx did smack Adrian across the head. Olivia Solace Olivia was not home that day, she had left a note for her employee that she was picking up a shipment of candles that couldn't be delivered normally for the delivery boy was out with fever. She had also left her in charge of watching Ment, who was mostly keeping to himself and giggling from time to time as he passed by Adrian.
He meandered out from the back room when he heard Adrian's "OW!" and came to see what the matter was. "Hey Lady~ Why is the sad one rubbing his head??" Ment questioned, bouncing up and down on the heels of his odd shoes that didn't seem to fit here.
He twirled a piece of hair between his fingers and waited for her answer as he looked down at what Adrian had written. kitten Kitten, having not bought her gel cup too very long ago, had not expected herself to be returning to the scented shop so very soon. True, she'd almost been out of oil for her candle, but like everything else she probably would have procrastinated on getting more anyway. Now, here she was, standing before the shop and peering through the windows to see if there was anyone inside. This trip however was not for her to purchase more oil. Oh no, we'd already seen where that had lead to, didn't we?
Oh good, it looked like that little white haired boy from before.
Turning, Kitten looked down at the girl whose hand she held, puckered her lips a bit and then turned back around to push open the door to the store, tugging the orange haired child gently. It's not that Kitten was acting unmotherly, or irritated towards the girl. More, she appeared to be too deep in thought over what exactly had happened and what exactly it was she needed to do about it.
Entering the shop she was once more assulted with all the scents one could ever imagine. Oh...there was even a raspberry sce-no! Not again. Kitten didn't have the money for another scent at the moment anyway.
Making her way to the counter, Kitten smiled sweetly at the woman who appeared to be working there that day, though she felt a bit put off that it wasn't the familiar Olivia this time. Although she smiled, Kitten didn't talk, instead she simply waited for the other to begin.
Vanyel peered around curiously, rubbing at her nose with one hand and fixing her glasses before spying Adrian and Ment. Canting her head to the side she offered a sweet smile like the one Kitten was giving now. She'd wave but, well, her waving, and was being held in her mommy's hand at the moment. Sukkubus To say that Mary was unused to carrying small children was an understatement. In fact, she couldn’t remember a moment in her life that she had spent cradling a child in her arms – let alone one that smelt strongly of spiced apple at this proximity - much less carting them through the city like a one-woman chauffer. None of her friends had children, and she had no siblings, so the task was foreign to her.
For the umpteenth time in that hour Mary readjusted the little boy tucked in her arms. His own were draped languidly around her shoulders, his legs wrapped loosely around her waist. For being so little, he sure was growing heavier and heavier! He must have been asleep at that moment in time, for she felt his face nuzzle into her shoulder (of which ached terribly!) and a sigh brushed across her neck. Despite the sweetness of the situation, practicality and urgency (for once) overrode any affection that may have grown for the obstinate boy; and in such little time!
She crossed the street towards the shop, short legs carrying her all the way to the door where she stopped to peer inside. Wonderful! There were occupants – perhaps even the shop keep was there and they could play a little game of twenty questions, the first one being: why? Why had there been a little boy in her living room, on her piano no less! When she had lit that silly candle. Despite living on Midori her entire life, Mary wasn’t much for magic and magician’s shenanigans! At least…that’s what she told herself. And this was coming from a woman who could sit and watch sparklers for hours on end on holidays.
Shifting Amahté onto her left hip and supporting him with her arm, she reached forward and opened the door with some difficulty, squeezing in. The scents that had mingled at the door’s crack now blasted her senses, and she felt a little overwhelmed by their mingling aromas; it was like having a horrible bout of vertigo. The little boy stirred, lifting his head up and wiping the drool from the corner of his mouth. His look of bleary-eyed wakefulness lasted for but a second before he came to, eyes brightening and narrowing like a cat’s.
“Why am I here?” he asked simply, voice giving a shrill crack. Apparently Mary herself was not important enough to be included in that ‘I’.
“That’s exactly what I would like to know,” she returned, setting him on his feet; when she tried to take his hand, he snatched his away, opting instead to walk before her, eyeing the other occupants within the room critically. +Sephiros Immortal+ Farlest was perplexed. Well, that was something of an understatement, he was confused and befuddled and just barely dressed, in jeans, flip-flops, his button-up shirt was half undone and he hadn't done a thing with his hair. This was the state of mayhem into which his life had been cast, and all by one silly little indulgence in a fragrance. Alas and woe.
Of course, parts of it weren't so bad. Even if the boy was precociously impertinent...he was cute. Adorable with those big crimson eyes of his. Gods they were crimson. Crimson eyes and hair as dark as Far's own. Now that was just a cruel trick for fate to play, now really.
Ka's eyes.
Arius, as he'd announced was his name, with those same puppy eyes and voice that was entirely too savvy for his apparent age. Fitting somehow for the spawn of Mad Love. But all right, Farlest wanted some answers.
So it was back to the little shop in which he had purchased the stuff in the first place, the boy had one hand attached to the elf's jeans and Far's hand was in the child's hair, monitoring and ensuring that he didn't just wander off on him. Arius seemed the type that just might do that...miniature imp that he was.
Pushing the door open with his free hand, immediately the fears came true, and Arius pulled himself loose and darted on in, as there were new people and HE WANTED TO MEET THEM! Like a little cyclone of sweet-smelling goodness he announced his presence.
"Hello!" Beaming at them all, he finally slid to a halt, bright eyes wide and full of complete innocence, most of it probably feigned. "I'm Arius!"
Far sighed...it was hopeless. "Ari..." Already shortening the child's name in sheer exasperation, he made a grab for the youngster's wrist and tugged him back. "Be polite...please."
Amryx "Because he's a brat who has nothing nice to say," Amryx grumbled, but now that she looked down on the mournful child, she did feel bad. Then she remembered Adrian always looked like that. Indeed, he seemed to forget about Amryx entirely and instead gave a dramatic sigh to Ment's question.
"Mother doesn't appreciate poetry. I figured as much," Adrian whined, looking up at his guardian balefully. Amryx was about to argue back when the front door opened, and she immediately took the chance to cater to a customer and ignore this demon spawn that came out of the burner... until she noticed that the customer had a child in tow, one who smelled strongly of Orange...
And then another, and another, all with children. The children seemed to recognize their own kin immediately, and Amryx promptly resisted the urge to groan in despair. She wasn't sure what Olivia's return policy for children spawned by magical oil/burners.
Luckily, Adrian groaned for her.
"Great, more kids. I bet their parents don't want them either," Adrian loudly complained, so that everyone could hear. "We're not going to keep here, are we? I don't want to share my corner. It's a corner meant for one."
"Shut up," Amryx hissed, and she promptly plastered a permagrin on her face as she finally attended to the customers. Maybe they all just decided to bring their kids along and she was getting the wrong idea about everything. "Hello! Welcome to Solace Scents! Olivia isn't here right now, so I'm taking her place." Olivia Solace Ment looked up, fluffy white hair bouncing and settleing quickly back into it's original state. His bright red eyes blinked for a moment at the sight of so many people in one room. Quckly though his attention went back to Adrian for a reply, "It's not your corner. It's 'Livia's corner." He muttered, crossing his arms in a way befitting for one proud of their parent.
He wasn't going to mingle with the children that had entered until one little boy came bounding up with hair a black a raven, and eyes as red in color as his own. He said his name was Arius, and he smelled good~
Ment stopped for a moment, dropping the crossed arms he was sporting and his eyes lit up, clapping his hands wildly. "They're here!!!!!" He shrieked, dodging in and out of the men, women and their children. "They're all here!!!!...Well....Most of them." kitten Oh look. More children.
It wasn't really that Kitten wasn't good with kids, on the contrary, she quite enjoyed children and was rather good with them...but this many? No, this many were not her cup of tea. Atleast they had their own parents to cling to though.
The orange haired girl standing at her side, who had so cutely called herself Vanyel during Kitten's 21 questions on their trip here, simply stood and watched the others. Poor girl must have felt left out being stuck in a group of boys, but atleast she was taking it relatively well. A smile was upon her lips for anyone who cared to notice, though apparently none of the others were very interested in her at all, especially when Ment got excited only after seeing the Arius boy.
Kitten simply pulled the girl a bit closer to her in a protective manner before turning to the one that declared herself in charge. "Good evening," Kitten replied to the woman's greeting, "I'm here because I'm a bit confused..." With a bashful expression Kitten looked down at Vanyel.
No, Kitten wasn't here to rant or rave or get angry about anything. She was a shape shifter after all, so from where she'd grown up? This wasn't anything strange at all, she simply wanted to make sure she didn't do anything wrong.
Vanyel continued to watch everyone with observant eyes, wide behind those black frames. A giggle was with-held when Ment got overly excited about the arrival of the others, but that wasn't surprising, he probably had known they were coming, even though they hadn't even know themselves.
Looking past Ment, Vanyel peered at the one that rather excitedly announced himself as Arius. It wasn't that she didn't want to reply with her own name, but as soon as she'd opened her mouth to reply, Ment and Kitten had interrupted her, so that could wait for later she supposed. First impressions couldn't be tarnished just because they hadn't actually met, could they?
Adrian was...unfortunatly...not noticed as Vanyel's view of him was obscured by where Kitten was standing between the two, so instead she trained her eyes on Amahte, purshing her lips and giving a weird expression at the sight of the boy. It wasn't that there was anything wrong with him overall, after all, they had all been oil cups just moments before, but he was strange even for the group. Atleast the rest of them were wearing normal clothes, like pants and shirts. Sukkubus It took Mary a moment to realize just how many children and adults were in the room, and she swung her gaze backwards to see if there’d be another influx. She took a few more calculated steps into the shop and rubbed her clammy hands together, brows knitting. Everyone had a child, plus little Ment, of whom she had met before while purchasing Ama—no, the spiced-apple scent liquid. She had not bought a child! As much as she tried to convince herself this, the fact still stood that she had seen everything…. A shiver worked its way down her spine despite her layers.
Upon hearing Adrian’s baleful words, she perked up and shook her head frantically.
“Not at all! I-I mean…well, it’s not that I don’t WANT him…but…” her voice trailed off as she searched her mind for the words; to anyone looking at her, it seemed as if she simply had forgotten to finish her sentence, having thought up something else. Something completely unrelated. She jolted suddenly.
“Why?” she cried aloud; she shook her head and tried again. Obviously she was stressed. “He- I didn’t mean- I just- I didn’t BUY a child, did I? Where did he come from? Did…Did Miss Solace plan this? Why didn’t she TELL us?” She looked at all of the others in turn, beseechingly. For a woman who spent most of her time on Cloud 9, she looked worried, almost terrified.
Mary turned to Ment, fingers pressing into her round cheeks, “ ‘T-they’re here?’” she repeated. Vertigo. Her voice became shrill, “Did you know? Oh God, I bought a child! I-Isn’t that illegal? What am I going to do?”
Somewhere behind her Amahté scoffed and gave his green eyes a whirl. Of all the people to be stuck with, why did he have to get the bimbo? He was already disgusted by the other children’s show of…glee, and now to be coupled with Mary? Oh, he was in for quite a treat, wasn’t he? The little boy crossed his arms over his bare chest and wandered (with a soft ‘shuff, shuff’ as his quilt dragged along the floor) towards the shelves.
It was like a burning in the back of his neck, having someone stare so intently at you. He attempted to ignore it, to even jostle some of the glass cups lining the display, but it didn’t leave. Straightening, he cocked his head slightly and cast his eyes over his shoulder; his entire body soon followed until he was eyeing Vanyel dubiously.
“Yes?” His brows remained level, as if addressing her were perhaps the most boring thing he had done in the short time he had lived. +Sephiros Immortal+ To Far's everlasting delight, the dark-haired boy actually listened to him this time, small fingers curling in the fabric of a pant leg and clinging, gazing up at his new caretaker in a puppyish fashion. Arius always knew how to make his wishes known even without words...but words helped, and he, like his guardian, loved to talk. "Pick me up?" He begged, crimson eyes becoming wide as saucers, liquid with what could possibly be tears that would most definitely spill should Farlest say no.
He didn't. With a longsuffering sigh, the elf scooped the little boy up into his arms, and Arius responded with a childish squeal of glee. Farlest had a long ways to go with that one...
The older male had to agree with Mary's slightly panicked outburst to some extent. "I'd have to agree...I really don't think any of us purchased something here with the intention of getting another family member." Farlest observed. "However, from the state of things, I gather Ms. Solace doesn't really want them back."
"So...how...precisely did this happen?" Eyeing the strange little white-haired child, who seemed so ecstatic about the entire affair, Farlest couldn't help but get the suspicion that the children knew more about this than they themselves did.
That was a damnedly scary thought right there.
"You dun want me, Daddy?" Arius looked positively crestfallen, arms looped around his guardian's neck, gazing into emerald-green eyes.
Oops. "Of course I do..." Farlest soothed quickly, tucking the boy's head under his chin, "...I just want this figured out. You were kind of a surprise, penneth." Amryx Oh no. It was time for Amryx to do damage control, and she had nothing to control the damage with. Certainly, there were situations at the bank back home where Amryx had to quickly explain her way out of transaction failures and such before the angry customers clobbered her with chairs and the like, but this?
How could she explain children randomly being born from burners? She had no idea such a thing was possible, yet the proof was running around all over the shop!
"I had no idea as well. I was um... very surprised when Adrian showed up. Tell me, how did you come across your children? Did they just appear, or did you see them being born, or...?" Amryx hoped that more information would help her solve this inconvienient mystery. Of all the days Olivia had to leave!
Adrian seemed to be unsure of what to do, but he grudgingly followed Ment out from behind the counter. Whether he was just curious or because he didn't want to be left of the crowd, Amryx didn't know.
"Well, it's my corner now. My mom works here too," Adrian mumbled, knowing how lame that sounded. He glared balefully at Amryx, accusing her of not being cool and owning her shop. Maybe he was jealous. Either way, he joined Vanyel and Amahté at the other end of the store.
"... Why are you wearing a blanket?" Adrian questioned, pointing to Amahté's choice of clothing. "It looks like an colorful oversized diaper, actually." Olivia Solace Ment crooked a head at Mary as she rambled on in her confusion. After she was finished he quickly regained his composure and made a ninja look to make sure no one saw that he was slack jawed at watching the woman who didn't seem to breathe when she talked. At least he still thought she was a nice lady.
"Calm down silly Lady," He murmured, taking Mary's hand with a smile, " You chose us." He gave her a smile before darting away from her to inspect the children. He tugged at Amahté's wrap, made Princess Lea buns out of Vanyel's hair, and poked Arius in the butt several times before being content with his exploration. "It's like a family!" He squeaked, his peachy fists balled and shaking from delight, "A family! A family!" kitten Vanyel smiled in return to Amahte's expression and question. "I was just admiring your..." the girl thought for a moment as she tried to figure out just what to call the cloth wrapped about his waist. She thought it would probably be insulting to call it a skirt, but that's certainly what it looked like. Finally she found a better word, "I was just admiring your outfit," she finished.
The girl gave another cute smile before Ment suddenly started playing with her hair. Vanyel pulled away and wrinkled her nose, causing her dark glasses to slip down her nose and requiring her to push them back up. Quickly fixing her braids the girl turned to look at Ment. "Family?" she asked curiously, looking around at the other boys with a dismayed look. Vanyel was definitally the type of girl that was all about sisters.
Although she should have replied to Adrian first, Ment's actions had riled her so much she had replied to him first afterall. Turning to him she shook her head and giggled, "It doesn't look like a diaper at all. I think it's really interesting, don't you?" she asked, looking over at Ment curiously.
Kitten watched quietly as Vanyel made her new little friends before turning back to Amryx with a smile in hopes of comforting her. It must have been a shock for all the people come in at once and Kitten didn't want her own presence to be upsetting to the woman. "Actually, I thought Vanyel had broken into my house when I was gone and that I'd caught her in the act."
"Ah, is there anything I need to know about her? I've tried to give her a few baths to get the gel off of her that spilled on her when she broke the dish, but it doesn't seem to come off. It's like she's her very own cut of gel. It washed right off me but with her, I dunno, it's just not working..." Kitten smiled again before looking over at her girl mingling with all the boys. Well, they looked...harmless enough, but those braids being pulled into buns by Ment had been cute enough to bring a laugh from the woman. Sukkubus As the others spoke in turn, more calmly than she, Mary followed them with her hands pressed to her mouth. Her brow was worried across her dark forehead, fingertips pressing hard against her lips. Her gaze lingered on Farlest the longest, or rather, on Arius who seemed most affectionate, and his father in turn (’If…that is his father. Right? Oh goodness, at THIS angle…’); she received the sinking feeling that she had gotten the most…ah, socially apathetic of the bunch.
Mary began to nibble anxiously on her nail, “I…I saw an eye. I mean, I was playing my piano and I get up to get a snack, and when I come back the entire room was just…” – she looked for a word and bit hard on the corner of her finger – “immersed in smoke. And then there was this eye.”
She threw her arms into the air suddenly, “This big! And…and it blinked at me and then everything just sort of swirled back into the cup. Like…like a reverse explosion, or something. And then he was there. Amahté, I mean…he was on my piano.”
She wondered if any of the other stories were as weird as hers…she certainly hoped so. Her hands brushed against her skirt when she felt Ment’s small hand clasp her own, and she looked down to him almost imploringly.
You chose us.
When he darted off, quick as a sprite, she followed his movements, the crease in her brow disappearing slowly. So…that was it? After her so-called ‘retirement’, she had planned to live leisurely, and one sharp turn down her path she had stepped upon a sour note. She hadn’t even planned this! But in hard truth, she had. She had chosen Amahté, thus had chosen her own fate.
Oh, this was too mind-boggling. She could only hold her head and sigh.
“…Oh, I think I left the blinds open…”
Vanyel’s answer caught him slightly off-guard, but he managed to cover up his uncertainty to respond with a nod, as prim and proper and detached as only a king could be; a smug smile pulled the corners of his mouth taut. For a child, his mannerisms were curiously cold.
“Admiring? I see. Well, continue if you’d like,” he returned with a knowing nod (he may have had the air of a king, but his voice was one of a boy’s: high and sweet, able to sell sand to the desert). “Gods should be admired.”
“Amahté!”
He turned slightly, “What is it, woma—gah!” He swiped at Ment when he tugged on the quilt, a little too late. He took a hasty step forward in the boy’s direction, before Adrian wrangled his attention in the opposite. “I’d hardly want to be a part of this family – and you” – he pointed harshly at Adrian – “Don’t question my state of dress, and I won’t question your lack of masculinity. And you think I wear the diaper?”
His mouth twisted into a vicious sneer – or would have, had Vanyel not cut in. Again he seemed confused by her…unintentional support. Obviously he did not expect it, nor did he know how to receive it. However, the young boy quieted down and dropped his hand, looking every part disgruntled.
+Sephiros Immortal+ Ari had squeaked at Ment's experimental poking, leaning over his guardian's arm in a precarious fashion in order to bat playfully at the other's finger...for some reason he didn't seem to mind said poking and Farlest had to wonder just where this kid had gotten his outlook on life...
He hoped it wasn't from him...Farlest didn't think he had been quite this much of a love-monger when he was that age. Of course, considering...it was a wee bit of a stretch to remember that far back. Huh...how old was he now anyway? Refraining from trying to count it out in his head, he turned back to the matter at hand. "I'm positive Ari appeared from the scent...I don't really see how he could have gotten there otherwise." Farlest's smile was a bit sheepish, "I was the only one in the house and he did sort of materialize right in front of me...at first I was sure that the smoke was talking and I had gone mad."
The child didn't seem to be listening any longer, squirming his way from Far's arms, after planting another childishly sloppy kiss on the elf's cheek, and was immediately granted access to the floor. "Family? So it's like he's my daddy and you guys" A gesture to the other children, "are kinda like my cousins or somethin'?"
Green eyes flicked over to Mary and her young charge, "It seems you have something of a handful there, Ma'am." Sympathizing, he was as polite as he deemed correct for the circumstances. Though he rather thought that 'little he-devil' was a closer description for Amahte. Any tyke who thought he was a god had severe issues upstairs in his personal opinion. {Journal Entry- Farlest}
Well, today is Friday, and I'm off from work. I've had to hire a babysitter for Arius, as I can't take him with me when I do my job, though I have been for the past few weeks. I...er...well, he does seem to make a hit with all of the ladies, and sometimes I think he enjoys their attention a little too much, for he has them wrapped around his little finger.
I daresay I hope he grows out of it, as this is a little awkward.
I'm becoming used to him. It's nice...to know that coming home, there's someone waiting for you, someone who loves you and thinks the world of you, even if they do attempt to drive you insane. Arius is a good little boy, he is...and I'm proud of him, though I'm not his birth father. Er...well...you wouldn't know looking at him, would you?
It really isn't fair you know, to look into his eyes and see Ka. If I didn't know better...he has my hair, and Ka's eyes, beautiful, gorgeous crimson. I...I put my arms around him last night, and I cried. Ari didn't understand, but he stroked my hair, and he tried to reassure me in his childish way. I'm hoping that he is right, that things will be all right.
I don't know what I'd do without Arius, he's a handful, but...he's mine. Olivia surely doesn't want him back, none of the little scents, or she'd have a veritable hoard of younglings. And in reality, I suppose I should thank her.

It's All the Same - {RP/Playdate} Olivia Solace Ment toddled around the merchant square, talking to some of the local neighborhood kids while Olivia sat outside her shop, sipping on some iced tea. The summer was a hot one and brought on many rain storms with it. Because of this, Olivia had a small shade built onto the front of her shop so the kids had somewhere to sit when the sun got to bright.
She was glad it was finally going down, she was a little tired of child's feet running about her store, in and out for water or lemondaide or just to escape the heat. Nothing really changed... Hikari Chou He was glaring again. She could feel it. He was pissed off because they were out shopping once again. He could glare all he wanted, really, but she wanted to enjoy her day off, and though she was frightenly certain the boy could easily handle himself without her care, she didn’t wish to leave him alone inside their house.
However, on a brighter note, Tango had become slightly more open as he now clutched tightly onto May’s hand, his green eyes staring blankly ahead. This motion was credited to the fact that he had almost gotten lost from her when she had kept walking and he had stopped to…well. He couldn’t even remember why he stopped. But the fact remained that once he stopped he was nearly eaten by a crowd, and he wasn’t about to let that happen again.
As May noted the oil shop a pang of guilt hit her. Hard. She fastened her pace more then slightly, squeezing Tango’s hand in her own. He glanced up curiously at her, but didn’t speak a word at the girl’s actions. Though he was silent and he had only been around for 2 days his presence had become one that she was already accustomed too and found herself growing fond of the boy despite his mannerisms. A fear that he’d be taken from under her nose hit her icily. She had stolen him, they had every right to steal him back.
She moved to cross the street to even distance them further, however, when Tango decided to slip his hand away from her grasp and meander over to the shop’s shade. What ever it was that had May rattled wasn’t much of his problem, he had decided, and he was hot. He had no more desire to go shopping again, and as a result he figured she was a big enough girl. He trusted she could handle herself without his guardianship. Olivia Solace Olivia looked over at the boy, "Hello." She murmured plainly, the sufferng of the heat written across her face. She took a sip of her drink once more and went back to starring at Ment as he played.
The little rascal noticed Tango and smiled brightly, making his way over with a skipping-like gate. He wanted to meat Olivia's new friend. Afterall, any friend of Olivia's was a friend he could potentially steal fro himself! Oh the joys <3. +Sephiros Immortal+ It was going to be one of those days.
Arius was on the prowl, as he liked to call it...hop-skipping about down, dark hair plastered to his forehead by sweat and not seeming to notice. He had some secret today, crimson eyes bright as he ducked into Olivia's shop, peering out the window as though he didn't notice anyone within.
He'd escaped from Farlest earlier in the day...and had been dodging him for the past hour or so. To the little scent, it was a game, but to Far, it was completely and utterly nerve-wracking. The mother's curse had proved true in this case, he had a child that was precisely as bad as he had been at that age.
Groaning, Farlest headed down yet another side street, much to the jubilation of his young charge who ducked down, and then peered back over his shoulder at the others who just happened, by his way of thinking, to be there. Hikari Chou Tango frowned a little, but just nodded in Olivia’s direction to signify that he had heard her. Apparently the woman had been out in the sun too long, and he wondered how long it would take until her skin would be the color of his hair. Taking a seat a ways away from her, but still in the shade he let a lazy yawn escape his lips.
He was just about to sprawl out on the floor for a quick sun nap, when he spotted something skipping at him though. Silently he hoped the figure was heading towards the sun dreading woman, opposed to him. Another kid. Oh the horrors.
May was panicking, really she was. She moved to walk on without him, but then stopped and glanced in the direction he had disappeared. Groaning out in despair she slowly shuffled her feet in the direction of Tango. Maybe if she could just snatch him out of there and ran… Olivia Solace "Hey!" Olivia yelled, getting up and running in after Arius, "Kid, what are you doing? My shop isn't a hi-...Oh....It's you." She sighed, placing a hand on the kid's sweaty little head.
"Arius where is your parent?" She questioned, looking out her shop for only a brief moment, hoping she'd spot Far somewhere.
Alas, no luck. Her quick glance did not serve her well as it was not timed appropriatley with when Far was walking donw the street. The poor man.
Too late. Ment had not directed himself towards Olivia, but indeed ran after Tango and knelt down before him gleefully. "Hi!" He chirped, burshing white hair from his sweaty peach face. "I'm Ment! What's your name?" +Sephiros Immortal+ Arius blinked, surprised by Olivia's voice more than anything else. Oooh! He knew this one. He grinned beatifically up at her, crimson eyes wide and innocent. "I dunno, ma'am." He replied, hands behind his back, "We just got separated, so I figured...oh, yanno, I'd just wait for him."
Hah. Yes...he'd lost his father and now it would be a long time before he found him again, more likely than not. He wasn't sure if Farlest would think to look at this little shop or not...whatever the case, it made a dandy hiding place for the moment.
Momentarily his gaze flickered outside...to the other children. Hmm...he'd have to investigate Ment and the new kid while he was here, as soon as he deemed the coast officially clear. Hikari Chou Oh, man. Just his luck. He groaned mentally and looked at the chipper…kid in front of him. Ment? The tested the name inside his head, and then repeated it once more hoping to drill it to memory. At least he wasn’t the only one with a funny name. He had been about to open his mouth, or why he wasn’t even sure. He didn’t even have a clue as to what he was going to say, but thankfully he didn’t have to come up with a response.
“Tango!” May shrieked as she suddenly moved to a run standing at him looking worriedly around. Now where was that emo kid who had caught her before? Not seeing him, she felt relieved and yet-some how- more panicked. “Tango lets-“ She spotted the child with him and let out a restless sigh. “Hi there.” She addressed with the best smile she could muster. “What’s your name?” Kinky_Coyote_Kun Romolus wandered around the square going nowhere in particular. He panted lightly due to the heat and when a stray breeze blew by him he stood on his toes to catch the most of it. Along with a brief relief from the temperature, the Lycan caught a wondrous combination of scents that willed his feet towards Solace's. Only a few people looked at him strangely but he had gotten used to it. There weren't many Lycans going around town but he felt special just because of this. Rabid Ice Weasel "MEEEEEEEEEENT! TANGOOOOOOO!"
"SLOW DOWN, POLLY!"
Carrie and her pink-haired son came careening down the way, the former heaily laden with shopping bags. The girl huffed and puffed and stumbled like a broke-legged penguin as Polly sprinted to and threw his arms around Ment.
"HIIIII!"
Carrie huffed and puffed her way over to May and dropped her bags heavily.
"Yo."

There's a funny thing 'bout growing up, or so daddy tells me, he says that strange things are bound to happen. I think I'm figuring it out...happens when I think people are pretty and stuff. Personally I like to think I know a lot more than he thinks I do. Ah well, sometimes parent people are best left in the dark about that, he'd just get all confuzzled.
I've made lots of new friends, like Vanyel and Polly and Ment. That Amahte kid is wierd though...I mean, what sort of guy runs around thinking people should listen to them all the time. And you don't just go acting like that, if you really want your way, you be all tricksy about it, see?
Anyway...I want to learn how to dance...I wonder if I can get my daddy to teach me, but he always gets wierd when I mention stuff like that, so I don't know. I mean...all misty-eyed, and the other night he cried. Scares me when he cries, cuz I feel like nothing is right anymore, and it's all going to fall to pieces.
If I was god, I'd make daddy happy.

To the Park! -{RP/Playdate} T ` P o i "Why again, did you wake me up mid-morning on one of the few days I don't have school on a weekday?" One Kyoko Akarui trudged along behind her 'adopted' child, the strange Scent letting its ball bounce alongside and slightly behind it. Anbu looked back at her with a 'Well duh' expression.
"I want to see if Vanyel is at the park. If she isn't...well, I'm sure there are others I can play with." Kyoko groaned, then promptly yawned. She had planned on sleeping in until noon, at the very least. But...Anbu had dragged her out of her nice warm bed without so much as a 'Please' or 'Thank you.' And as a result of the speed at which the Scent had rushed them out, her hair was more mussed than normal (and showing some of her dark blond roots, since she hadn't touched up the dye in a few weeks), and her clothing was simple: a blue tank top, knee-length black shorts, and a pair of black sandals.
"Child...You are so lucky I forget the fan." Anbu smirked.
"I know. I was expecting that." Kyoko grit her teeth and made a mental mantra to keep her sanity.
'Do not kill my child, do not kill my child, do not kill my child.' +Sephiros Immortal+ Farlest, suffice to say, wasn't in much better order than Kyoko was. The elf had been half-dragged from the bedroom by an enthusiastic Arius, who for some reason was under the misconception that a day off for his guardian was a playday for the little scent, and no amount of disgruntled mumbling from Far would change his mind on that account.
He'd only had time to slip on a pair of jeans, a button-up shirt that currently -wasn't- buttoned, and nab a pair of flip-flops on the way out. Oh...and there was the ever-present emerald pendant...that just didn't leave so it went without saying that it would be there. "Ari...where the..." he would NOT swear, "where are we going?" The lithe male was running a hand through his hair, all the combing it was likely to get...and with the one hand not currently occupied with both of Ari's, as little 'Mad Love' there was using both, as though tugging a wagon about.
"To play!" He chortled gleefully, hop-skipping his way down the road. "Mebbe I'll meet some new people."
"Heaven forbid..." T ` P o i "Can we please at least stop for something to ea-okay...never mind." At the thought of food, Kyoko's stomach tried doing a back-flip. Thankfully, it didn't succeed. Anbu slowed down a bit and looked up at her.
"Are you okay?" Kyoko waved it off, looking ahead of her. She sighed in relief. The park was just ahead, and it was far from the crowded monstrosity Kyoko was expecting. There were even several benches that she could see! Maybe she could doze off on one of them...She shook her head as she and Anbu continued down the path. No! Someone had to make sure the cotton-candy smelling child didn't cause too much mayhem!
"Anbu...please...just don't send another kid crying to his mom. Last time...I think my ear is still a bit off in hearing..." She cringed in memory of that one-sided yelling match. Anbu pouted, but nodded. +Sephiros Immortal+ It was Arius, and not his still-sleepy father-figure who first noticed the other two people coming into the park...and immediately decided that this was an opportunity to add more names and faces to his list of acquaintences. Ah, well...the boy was pretty enough...but the lady...which to address first?
Letting go of Farlest's hand, he ran pell-mell towards the two, waving and calling out a greeting. "Hello!" He chirped, crimson eyes wide and full of an innocence that was 96% feigned.
Farlest groaned, rubbing a hand over his face tiredly...not even having time to wonder if he looked shabby...which he did...more like some teenager than a being over two thousand years in age. But what was he to do? Being a father wasn't easy...and he hadn't done it in...yeah...a few centuries. "Please please please Ari don't do something stupid..." Yeah. he could hope.
It would seem that he would have to make an introduction of his own in the near future. Ah well, best to let mr. 'I am a morning person' break the ice there, whilst he woke up. Then Farlest could be his usual personable self. Hopefully. T ` P o i Arius' greeting got two very different responses. The first was a loud groan from Kyoko, who was attempting to get her hair to be agreeable -as if it ever was-, the second was a blank stare, then grin from Anbu.
"You're not Vanyel, but you'll do! What's your name?" There went Kyoko's hope that they wouldn't find anyone for Anbu to play with. She sighed and continued to run her hands through her hair. When she spotted the other person, presumably the one the red-eyed boy had run from, she freed one hand to wave tiredly. When he got closer, Kyoko piped up with a simple question.
"You get dragged out of bed too? +Sephiros Immortal+ All right, so the new lady wasn't happy to see him...well...HER LOSS! He grinned at her anyway, but then went right on to the more interesting (in his opinion) of the two, the one who was talking to him...the boy with the pretty hair. "Vanyel? You mean the girl with the glasses?" He made circles over his eyes with his fingers to demonstrate, "I know her."
Immediately discarding this as irrevelant, he plowed on, tossing his head, "I'm Arius! Arius Morifaerion!" Yes, he had taken on his guardian's surname, as Farlest hadn't known what else to do, as the boy was indeed his responsibility now.
Letting the children banter, Farlest nodded in that not yet awake fashion. At the moment, should a bed have been provided, he could have gone right back to sleep without so much as a by-your-leave. "Yeah...Ari is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at this hour of the morning...and he doesn't care for the late-rising folk." He grinned sheepishly, shrugging, "So here I am." T ` P o i Anbu nodded. "Yes, yes. It would seem we have a mutual acquaintance then!" The 'clown' blinked as the red-eyed boy continued on with the introductions, and threw in its own two cents.
"Good to meet you. I am Anbu Akarui." Though its voice didn't have the zeal of its new companion, it made up for it with a flourished performer's bow and mysterious smile. "Any preferred games?"
Kyoko covered the ear nearest the children, using her free hand to rub the sleep from the corresponding eye. "I know that feeling. When Anbu wants to play...Anbu wants to play." She yawned and removed her hand from her ear, holding it out. "I'm Kyoko Akarui." +Sephiros Immortal+ Mutual acquaintance, was it? Well then...he could use terms like that if he had to. Squaring his little shoulders, he nodded politely, inclining his head in a manner that he thought of as dignified, and wasn't far off considering how young he was. "It is a pleasure!" The grin was back on his face in a moment. "And not really, I'm terribly adaptable, when it comes to such things...though I think something that involves running and..." he glanced over his shoulder at their guardians who were currently conversing, "...hiding in other places."
Farlest accepted that hand, his grip firm and warm to the touch. "Indeed, it seems we both have a pair of little scoundrels. I'm Farlest Morifaerion, pleased to meet you." He glanced over towards the children. "Did you acquire your youngling the same way that I did?" (( The rest is here )) {Incomplete}

It's Cute when Kids Flirt - {RP/Playdate} kitten Vanyel, much to her distaste at the moment, was dressed in something that could only be defined as terrible. Kitten had clearly been drinking something that had long gone off because she had dragged Vanyel to some god-awful clothing store and had been stuffing her into the most horrific of outfits. For example, first there had been the frills and lace, and then there had been the plaid and stripes. Did Kitten have no fashion sense? The woman had never appeared to be colour blind (or at this point maybe even completely blind) but she seemed to be out-doing herself at the moment. The outfit of the moment was, and get this, a green mini-skirt with white lace trim that tickled her thighs with a white button up collared shirt with long sleeves that also sported white lace frill on the cuffs. Knee-high black boots had been chucked onto the girl and her long hair had been pulled out of its braids to be pilled atop her head. Kitten thought she looked adorable, Vanyel thought completely otherwise and anyone could tell from the purse of her lips and the tears that were welling in her eyes. " I'm giving you one minute to finish looking at me in this before it's on the ground, possibly in shreds," Vanyel said sweetly as she looked away from the mirror and up at Kitten. +Sephiros Immortal+ Instead of being dragged to go shopping, the situation with Arius was completely vice versa. Once again he had dragged his hapless guardian along to go clothes shopping. Farlest had done nothing but go through the boy's dresser and announce that they would have to buy more clothes...sometime. Sometime did not mean fifteen minutes from that very moment.
Arius had somehow translated it as such however, and now the elf was eyeing with distaste some jeans that looked as though they had already been worn for a year by some over-active little boy the way they were faded and torn.
The crimson-eyed Scent however, pronounced them stylish, and was now pleading his case to the powers that be. In other words, he who held the wallet. "Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase?" He wheedled, those large eyes going impossibly wide and lower lip jutting out in a pout.
Farlest swallowed hard. He knew he was doomed. kitten Kitten turned to look in the direction of the over enthusiastic pleading voice of a small boy. She was likelt imagining it but it sounded rather familiar, though she certainly couldn't place when or where she might have heard a voice such as his. It seemed...distinctive. Shifting about the clothing rack and now ignoring Vanyel's glares the woman found the source of the voice and found the familiar face that fit the familiar voice. " I hope he's begging you to put those pants back," laughed Kitten as she took a step over to the pair. The orange haired girl followed Kitten, not knowing that the path was leading towards people. She hadn't heard the boy and so she assumed Kitten had found another outfit to stuff her into. Needless to say, the girl was not pleased when she took the step out from behind the pants rack to come face to face with Farlest and Arius. Pale cheeks were instantly red as strawberries at the sight of the two, but she didn't move. Dashing behind the pants rack would have been silly. She knew she looked rediculous in the outfit she was wearing at the moment but it would have been worse to hide she had decided and so she simply put her hands on her hips and grunted a soft hello. +Sephiros Immortal+ Farlest pulled a face, grimacing. "I only wish that was the case." He said ruefully, before turning to smile at Kitten and her charge. "Instead he wants to be the height of fashion, I fear." The elf ruffled Ari's hair, to which the boy objected loudly, having just noticed that they had company.
Scooting out of his guardian's reach, Arius quickly forgot about the pants and instead darted over to give Vanyel an overenthusiastic hug. "Vanyel!!! You're getting new clothes too?" Pulling back, he beamed at the girl, looking at her current outfit. "Wow...your hair's different too, did your mommy do that?" Innocently he poked a finger at it, "That's pretty, makes you look older." He embellished the compliment with a wink.
The elf rolled his eyes, "You're out shopping too, I gather?" He inquired politely, turning his attention towards Kitten, letting the children settle their own affairs. It was just safer that way. kitten If that was high fashion then Kitten was quite glad to be out of the loop. They looked more like a dogs chew toy than pants that anyone should be wearing. And here Kitten though Arius was interested in being cute. " Well, we're sort of out shopping. I've a bit of an engagement with my job so to speak and I was hoping Vanyel would be there with me, but she needs a cute outfit to go in and she just seems to hate everything I pick out for her. Maybe Arius could help her find a good outfit, hmm?" she asked, turning to Arius with a smile. " Why not pick out Vanyel a cute, not too very expensive outfit. Doesn't that sound like fun?" Vanyel thought she could have killed Kitten in that very instant. Let Arius dress her? That sounded really terrible. And why was he hugging her? How did he know her name? The girl simply stood there looking grumpy, still irritated about the clothes she was forced to be wearing. " Yes Kitten did it and no it's not pretty, she replied, crossing her arms over her chest with a sigh. If Kitten was going to let Arius pick out her outfit it would atleast look better than if Kitten herself picked it out. All she had to do was be pleasant to the boy for the next few minutes. That couldn't be too hard. Could it? +Sephiros Immortal+ Farlest raised both brows, but didn't say anything to Kitten's suggestion. Not to be impolite, but he really wouldn't let Arius pick...he might turn her into any stereotype imaginable depending on how he felt, but then again, he might not, he could only cross his fingers and hope that his charge behaved himself. "I'm just shopping because Arius wears his clothes out almost as fast as I can put them on him...he's a very active little boy."
Arius blinked for a moment at Vanyel's words before shrugging, "Well...iffen you say so, I suppose." He showed her a cheerful smile regardless. "Let's go find something for you to wear then!" Turning that blinding grin on Kitten, he waved a hand, "Thank you, ma'am!" Before snatching Vanyel's hand and dragging her off to go find something to wear.
Once safely out of sight of their respective parental units, he exchanged a conspiratorial glance with the girl, "So ah...what do you like to wear?" (( The rest is here )) {Complete}

{Table for Two? - RP}
Ka'hmesh& Arius Ka was glad that sometimes he got lunch breaks a little longer than the norm. It meant that sometimes he actually got to leave and walk to a small cafe a few blocks down - then sit down and have a nice meal ... rather than having to bring something with him. Today was one of those days - and though it was hot and sticky outside, the inside of the cafe was cool and welcoming without being -too- cold. Ka chose a seat in one of the small booths next to the windows and ordered a drink and one of this particular cafe's specialty deli sandwiches, then settled down to people-watch and wait for his food to arrive.
Arius was out for a walk...he'd escaped his guardian for the afternoon, on the excuse of going to see Ment. However, he wanted to explore instead, meet -new- people...but after a while, it had gotten too hot, and he was tired of wandering about and following people...pestering, his guardian would have called it, but he didn't care one way or the other. Sighting that cafe, he decided that it looked as good as the next place, and decidedly cooler than out here. Popping through the door, curious crimson eyes glanced about, before settling on Ka. Oooh..he had cool hair, and pretty markings on his face like Vanyel did...kinda. Bouncing over there, he put a hand on the other's table, grinning as wide as he possibly could. "Hi!" He greeted cheerfully.
Ka blinked, looking up at the child who had seemingly appeared from nowhere. The boy wasn't really particularly unusual looking (aside from the eyes). But then again, Ka couldn't say much on that score, himself. So he just inclined his head slightly, replying, "Hello there..." He wondered just where the boy's parents were, glancing around a little.
"I'm Arius, who are you?" He inquired, seating himself across from the other without so much as a by-your-leave, peering inquisitively at the other. This guy had eyes kind of like his. How cool! Farlest had always told him not to talk to strangers, but that worked about as well as telling a young -Farlest- not to talk to strangers. In other words, it didn't.
Ka blinked again, but he didn't really mind the boy ... as personality reminded him quite forcefully of someone else he knew. Or had known ... but best not to think about that now. "My name is Ka'hmesh," he replied, smiling slightly. It was a bit of an odd and perhaps rude way to ask his name, but ... children would be children. "Where are your parents?" he asked, a rather pointed question of his own.
Ari shrugged, "My daddy's at home, I'm out visiting." Which he was, he just wasn't doing the visiting that his guardian thought that he was, but what Farlest didn't know in this case, wouldn't hurt him in the boy's opinion. "Nice to meet you! D'you live around here?" It didn't seem like he was planning on going anywhere anytime soon, and indeed he wasn't, the little scent seemed on the verge of making a new friend, and a grown-up one at that.
Ka wondered just who Ari was -supposed- to be visiting ... as he was pretty sure whoever the child's father was hadn't told him to go and sit down at cafes across from random strangers. Ah, well. There wasn't much he could do about it at this point - other than possibly indulge the boy so he didn't run off and get into even more trouble. Although ... "You know, I could be a very bad person," he pointed out, raising brows slightly. "And if I was, you might be in big trouble right now."
Ari shook his head vehemently at that. Leaning up so that he was almost standing in his chair, he touched a finger to Ka's nose and smiled, "I know you're not a bad person...'sides, I can take care of myself, and you have eyes like me, and that's gotta be a good sign." To him, his logic was infallible, besides, he had never run into any trouble before, and though still a child, Ari was unmistakably starting to grow up, to become more than that.
That nose wrinkled just a little at the touch and something almost like a ghost of pain flitted through the older male's eyes. Too many similarities here ... but the boy couldn't know that. No need to blame him for it. "Mm so having crimson red eyes is apparently a good thing..?" Ka mused out loud. "I'll have to remember that the next time someone stares at me."
Ari frowned, that looked altogether too familiar, it really did. "Yeah...my daddy says it's a good thing, but sometimes...I think I make him sad...don't be sad!" He commanded, tapping his lips thoughtfully, a little habit out of the several that he'd picked up from his guardian. "Cuz I can try and cheer people up, but it takes lotsa work, see? And my dad says that my eyes are pretty...but...sometimes when he says that, he looks like he's gonna cry. " He frowned, sitting back and apparently trying to think over that one. Huh...what a contradiction. "Grown-ups don't make sense sometimes." He concluded.
Ka blinked slightly at that, his mind having all together too much fun with all of that information. What he was thinking of was impossible, though, so he shoved it away, instead dredging up a smile for the other. "All right, if you insist, I won't be sad," he replied. "But you are very right about grown-ups. We don't make sense a lot of the time. But neither does the world we live in." And ... it was just about then that his food arrived and Ka turned for a moment to thank the waitress. She said nothing at all about the boy, probably assuming the two were related or at least knew one another.
Ari sighed, "Meh...I don't like it when people are sad, people...'specially if they're good ones like you and my dad, don't need to be sad, it makes the people who care about them sad too." He eyed the other's food for a minute and then settled back in his seat. Yeah, he'd do a lot to make Farlest happy, because Arius was almost perpetually cheerful, and didn't understand why everyone wasn't that way.
Noticing that look the boy gave his food, Ka raised brows slightly, and asked, "Are you hungry?" It -was- about lunchtime after all ...
Ari shrugged one shoulder, "A little bit." He admitted, not wanting to guilt the other -too- much, into giving him something to eat. That would look entirely too suspicious now wouldn't it?
Ka just shook his head very slightly, though, not even really surprised ... children were almost always hungry, he had learned. And then, he picked up half of his sandwich and offered it to the other on a napkin. "Well here ... since you've decided to join me, I can't very well be rude and eat without you having something too."
Arius laughed, "Thank you! S'very nice of you." The boy smiled widely and then promptly started in on the sandwich. Well, that way he wouldn't have to plead for food as soon as he got home...wouldn't irritate Farlest. As much as he knew that Far liked being his parent, well...Ari didn't cause him -too- much trouble, unless he was trying to impress a friend which was...well...all right, a lot.
Ka just smiled in return and ate his own half of the sandwich, sipping from drink now and again. And the next time that waitress wandered by, he got a glass of water and then pushed it across the table toward the other. "I'm going to guess that you live somewhere close to here too, Ari?" he asked - sort of naturally shortening the other's name.
Ari nodded, "Yeah...a few blocks away, I don't walk far from home and Daddy wouldn't like it if I did...even if m'capable of doing it." He obeyed Farlest in that sense if nothing else. Finishing his own half of the sandwich in fairly short order, he then reached for the glass of water, and drank half of that. "You're very nice." He stated, "You should come'n visit sometime, Daddy would like you too." Far more than Arius knew...
"Mm ... maybe I will," Ka replied, smiling slightly. But not today ... it would be time pretty soon for him to head back to work. Taking another sip of his own drink, he finished up his own food and leaned back a little, at a bit of a loss. He wasn't incredibly good at making conversation anyway, and besides that, he didn't really know what a boy Ari's age would like to talk about.
Arius, however, was not the sort who was easily at a loss for words...much like his guardian in that way. "So you work, right? What do you do? And where do you work? My daddy talks to people about buying stuff, he's good at that." Farlest was very good in both sales and customer service, and his employer had found that out fairly readily.
"I'm a ... guard, sort of," Ka replied, and as explanation, lifted one arm and flexed it a little. Though he wasn't -overly- muscled, it was clear that he was quite strong, and that he stayed in shape and everything.
Ari giggled, "See, my daddy's strong, but he doesn't look like it...you look like you could really protect things." Or people for that matter. "I wouldn't wanna get in a fight with you." Not that Arius would or anything like that. "But that's really cool, that you're a guard...I'll bet you do a good job."
"Oh, I certainly try my best," Ka replied, smiling. "And I rather hope you don't get into a fight with me ... or anyone else, for that matter." A little pause. "Unless they tried to hurt you first. Then you're fully allowed to kick their butt." On that last part, he leaned in a bit, as if telling a secret.
Ari giggled, "Yessir, I'll do that. Daddy taught me a little bit about how to fight...kinda...in case the sort of bad people you talked about try'n grab me." He nodded sagely, "But...this town is pretty nice, and so are most of the people...my Dad says s'a lot safer than how he grew up."
Ka nodded at that, thinking back on his own young life. "Mmhm ... this place is safer than where I was growing up, as well." Looking back to the other, he smiled a little. "You're pretty lucky to live in a place like this, you know."
Arius smiled, resting his head on his arms atop the table. "Yeah...I guess I am...and it's not even boring!" He knew he should be getting home soon, but he was still very interested in Ka, so as long as the other was willing to stay here and talk to him, well... "How'd you grow up then?"
"Well. You remember these bad people we were talking about?" Ka asked, and then went on after a moment. "One of them ... took me, when I was very young, younger than you are now. And I couldn't fight him ... he hurt me a lot. Then he made me guard something for him, until ... someone else came along and helped me escape him." And that was the -incredibly- short version.
His eyes widened then, as Ka suddenly had the boy's full attention, Ari quite fascinated by even the brief account. This fellow had had an -adventure-. "Wow..." Thinking about it, he concluded that, though exciting, it couldn't have been any fun for Ka'hmesh. "But...at least someone came along to save you, right?"
"Yes ... " Ka replied, gaze going distant for a moment ... remembering. Nn ... he didn't need to be thinking about this right now. Ah, but ... saved. "Well ... I'm sorry Ari, but I need to get back to work now. Maybe I'll see you again sometime," Ka murmured with a smile.
Arius nodded quickly, slipping up out of his seat. "Ok...I'll try and see you again, you're my friend now." He declared, "And thank you...it's been really nice talking to you!" Paddering over to Ka, he hugged the other tightly for a moment, inexplicably happy for the meeting of him.
Ka was almost expecting that hug by this point, having figured out that Ari was a very friendly little kid. So he returned the hug sort of one-armed, smiling down at him. "Friends are good things to have," he murmured quietly.
"Yeah..." He pulled back then, watching Ka for a moment, "I'll see you later, Ka'hmesh!" Waving, he then darted out, pushing past people and out the door, dashing pell-mell towards home.
Ka watched the other go, smile turning just a bit sad as soon as the small form was out of sight. Then he just shook his head slightly - leaving some money on the table - and walked out himself, heading back to work.{Complete}

{Journal Entry - Arius}
I met somebody new the other day…and I have a few secrets now. Secrets are fun things aren’t they? For starters, I really do think that Vanyel is pretty…she has nice eyes and vibrant hair and she’s actually a lot of fun to be around.
Anbu is fun too, he’s crazy though, and sometimes he talks funny, but we get along. Daddy says that I get out a lot and don’t seem to meet new people…maybe that means I need to get out even more? That’s a finny thought…he worries about me enough as he is.
I’m gonna bring Ka’hmesh home sometime for dinner. I think Daddy would like him, and I want to be able to tell Dad about him, but I wasn’t supposed to be out that day….soyeah…I’m kinda scared about what he might say if he knew. Far-daddy thought I was visiting Ment, and m’gonna let him keep thinking that until I surprise him.
Surprises are the best, aren’t they!!!! Especially the fun-super-special-friend kind.

{Journal Entry - Farlest}
If it weren't for Arius, I think I would be a little puddle of depression right now. He's gotten me out and about...and I've met new people, a little shifter named Kitten, for one...I think I scared her or unnerved her, somehow, but she and her little Scentling Vanyel are both very nice. I feel for Kitten and her relationship with her adopted 'daughter'.
It makes me terribly glad that Arius accepted me right off. Nnn. He's growing up, I can see it...and it reminds me of my own childhood. I hope...I sincerely do, that he doesn't have to make so many attempts at happiness before he settles down, but I fear he's like me...only worse.
Ka...if only you were here to help me...then I'd know that he'd turn out right. I'm afraid of making a mistake, I've never had to raise children on my own before, and it's somewhat awkward being a single parent...especially knowing that my little one is on the verge of becoming an adolescent...I'm not sure if I can handle the girls and the dating and whatnot. Or heaven forbid...the boys. Arius seems to have the same sort of inclination equally towards both sexes that I do.
Nnngh. This isn't at all easy...I'm praying very very hard lately.

Maturity Prompt (Required To Teach Teen Stage) Learning how to be responsible is an important part of growing up. In order for your scent to mature into a teen, they need to prove that they are capable of taking responsibility for themselves and/or others. That said, your scent comes home one day with an amazing story that shows how responsible they are. They have rescued a cat, saved up enough money to buy themselves something nice, or saved the world from an evil wizard that tried to divide by zero. Whether it was ultimately to serve themselves or others, your scent's tale will show traits of maturity that will let them blossom into angry, hormone-driven monsters that act nothing like the sweet children that you fondly remember having. Be as creative as you'd like with their story, and remember:RESPONSIBLITY, DO YOU HAS IT?!
