Aiko_589 20 t0 16 is odd. 20 t0 18 is pretty exceptable. of course if the woman is older its a whole different story. but if you dont have parents bugging you, and you dont care about what people whisper about when they get home, it doesnt really matter. and a 20 year old and an 18 year can have all the sex they want. 18 years is legal sex age.  この世を司るように出された・・・・・・・・・・・・True as that may be, as I understand it I often hear that the U.S. are the ones that are so strict and uptight about dating underage... Apparently a man in his 20s could date a girl under the age of 18 and not be persecuted or looked upon as immoral in other nations, particularly those overseas... This one guy on Dr. Phil said so... sweatdrop Thats why I want to know Japan's take on it... ・・・・・・濤萬凪汰冴眞（どうまなぎ・だざま）！！

If you're confused "dating down" is when someone gets together and/or fools around with somebody younger than they are, usually CONSIDERABLY young!
I wanna know how Japan looks at it. How much younger or how far apart in age does the limit of 2 people getting together become viewed as largely unacceptable or inappropraite???
例え: How would a 20-year-old look dating a 16-year-old??? ・・・・・・濤萬凪汰冴眞（どうまなぎ・だざま）！！ I always thought it was called robing the cradle. Although usualy when a 20 year old dates a sixteen year old then the 20 year old is called a petifile *spelling*. Yeah its usually considered that, but my cousin once told me that if the younger is 15 years old that its consensual. Does anybody know if thats really true??? confused ・・・・・・濤萬凪汰冴眞（どうまなぎ・だざま）！！

We would try it back then when I was in elementary, but obviously our attention spans were waaaaaay too short to try and make a relationship work... sweatdrop

I would only date a girl who is around the same age as me to two years older. Dating down is nothing new to me. A few years back, I've heard of a couple of girls who were dating guys that were already graduated from high school, like about ages 20, and the girls were fifteen.

Izumi Ako-chan I would only date a girl who is around the same age as me to two years older. Dating down is nothing new to me. In Japan you can get married without parental consent at 16, is my understanding. (There are actually girls in my school who are going to do so, I think...)
I don't know how common it is, but it does happen. My friend (16 or maybe 17) is currently dating a 17 year old, but she said that it's a first - all her previous boyfriends were around 23 or 24. I don't know about the attitudes of parents or the Japanese as a whole, though.

i really dont think age is a big problem in japan.

Mmm... I think ANIME would be the worst thing to go on in a situation like this... Anime seems to never really be based on Japan in real life circumstances and I think they use anime to make things happen that they would catch s**t for if they ever even THOUGHT about doing it in real life, like talking informally in anime when people in Japan are actually much more distant than that...

I hate hearing about when girls that are 15 are sleeping with like freaking 20 year olds whenever I think about it I get ticked off evil evil It makes me wanna kill all those guys that are THAT pathetic to sleep with like 15 year old girls. =/ I really wish it was non-existent but unfortunately it isn't.....

Kiba_Inu I hate hearing about when girls that are 15 are sleeping with like freaking 20 year olds whenever I think about it I get ticked off evil evil It makes me wanna kill all those guys that are THAT pathetic to sleep with like 15 year old girls. =/ I really wish it was non-existent but unfortunately it isn't..... i dont think atraction and love should have any boundries as long as its reasonable. anyone under 16 should steer way clear of anyone over 18.
