Wow. If I were you, I would have yelled back at him that he shouldn't be saying something like that to a native.

And yeah, if I were the waitress, I would at least mutter something in Japanese and leave. Even if he kept yelling at me.

lol, I didn't think he was serious at first, but obviously he was. Oh well, he's the only one in the whole resturant who thought he was cool, everyone kept throwing him dirty looks mrgreen

So, he was saying it was supposed to be pronounced "アリガテゥ"? Is that even how you'd spell that? confused

Anyone else know that take-out Japanese place "Sarku" that shows up at malls? I've always wondered what the heck that name was supposed to mean...

Hehehe what an arse xd
I honestly dun like it when people are so uppity and
think they are better than someone else especially when the receiver
of the insults KNOWS WHAT THE HELL THEY'RE DOING.
Gosh some people are just so ignorant beyond words,
ahh hopefully those kind of people will humble themselves sooner or later razz

Well, we can't wonder why the Japanese think that Americans are rude thanks to stunts like that... stressed

Personally I don't like using the word 'ありがとう' when they ask me to show them what I've learned in my class. Usually when I say that, they get this really smug look on their face and they go 'Domo arigato Mr. robot-o'. They don't even pronounce it right. It's like Doe-Moe-Ae-ri-gah-toe.

A lot of my karate teachers love to act like they know Japanese. One of our stances is called ’ねこあしだち' (cat (neko) foot (ashi) stance (dachi), so our sensees tell us it's translated), but I heard our sensee calling it 'にこあしだち'. One would think that another would know how to at least say 'neko', because it seems to be a very popular word in animes and such. I sort of passively corrected her at the end of class (after all the kids had left and such) and she gave me this look as though she thought she knew I was showing off.

Yeah, that lady should have like wrote him an "I'm Sorry" note in Japanese.

OMG, my brother insists on singing that song every time I say ロボット. Which is often enough, since my favorite manga is about robots, and then we argue about whether ロボット or ロバート is right. I HATE THAT SONG.

Incidentally, ロバート is how we translated the name "Robert" in a summer Japanese program. ^^"

I think it's about time I appeared in the Guild again. Hmn, people like that senile man don't deserve a topic about him on the net. But, since it's already up here, I'll throw in some words of opinion.. stare For starters, me being an angsty American, I'd probably dump one of the plates on his head[while no one's looking of course], or spit in his food. scream It's just people like that, that make the world one step closer to hell.

.Just A Stray.

yeah, I know what you mean. I have this friend who is trying to learn japanese and he's always going around making mistakes. After a while I corrected him. What pissed me off is he didn't accept my help and took it as me trying to show off. He was saying ぼくはあいももです, I told him the correct way to say it was ぼくはももがだいすきです. He said "I know 3 different languages, english, german and spanish. I think I know what I'm saying". ok wtf, german and spanish are nothing like japanese regarding grammer and sentence structure stare
