The Aftermath - April 20, 2005

And Huni returned to the shop front, holding a glass of cold water and a mug of hot water. She wasn't sure which one Shiroi had wanted and decided to bring both, just in case. Of course, when she entered the shop front she saw the woman was no where to be seen.

Instinctively, Huni set the drinks down on a flat surfact and headed for the Study.

"Hey there, cutie." Shiroi said, taking the child into her arms, being careful to grab the heavy Tome as well. The purple one just seemed to be able to hover around her, and besides, Shiroi was out of hands.

Suddenly the study door opened, revealing Huni. Shiroi started babbling about what had just taken place in the room, a little scaredly.

Huni took it all in stride, not like she could do anything about it now, right? She just made a tired little sigh and opened the door wider so that Shiroi and the new Tale could come out of the Study.

"I got you some cold and hot water," she said, gesturing to the table where the drinks were. "If you both will excuse me, I have a date with a chocolate cake." Huni grinned goofily and skipped off to the kitchen.

The Homecoming - April 20, 2005

Shiroi walked back into her apartment with her new child asleep in her arms and her purple book hovering behind them. Pushing her door open, she was met with a critical stare from Kazra, her Kyr.

'Shiroi, What have you done?' He asked through their mental link.

'I didn't do anything!' Shiroi protested, 'I just wrote in a book, and then she appeared!'

'Of course,' the equine creature said dryly, 'But just where are you planning on putting her? Your apartment is already too crowded, even with Myria spending the majority of her time in Kyron.'

"I'm... not sure yet. I'll figure something out," Shiroi muttered. "But for now, can you watch Miako? I need to get her crib and stuff assembled."
Not waiting for a response, she set Miako down on her bed and walked back out to her car to get the crib.

Shiroi's Journal - May 1, 2005

So, Miako's been with us for eleven days now. For a baby, she seems to walk and talk really well, and I'm still trying to puzzle out how she got into the stash of picture books I keep mainly for sentimental reasons. Can't tell if she's actually reading them or just looking at the pictures, but it's better that she does that rather then writing on the walls or blowing up the house, right? In fact, Miako's the most mild-mannered baby/toddler I've ever seen. It's a little creepy, at times. She'll just spend hours in her room (aka my office), not making a noise doing who knows what. I think it's time to take her out to meet more Tales.

Now if Miako is nice and sweet and angelic, that magic book of hers is the absolute opposite. That thing is vicious! Miako's the only one that can open, although it'll let me hold it. Everyone else? Well, let's just say that when Kaz tried to grab it, it smacked him in the nose. Hard. Can you say ow?

On another note, I really need to start looking for another place. My apartment's just too small for two people and two Kyr. Kaz has taken to spending tons of time in Kyron, just to save space. Time to see what money I can dredge up for a house. I think I heard Agatha say there was some openings around her shop, maybe I should check it out.

First Impressions - May 1, 2005

The Stationary Shop was nearly empty, no one save for Aido and Chao were there, which was sort of expected. Sundays were always slow for everyone it seemed. Chao herself was simply packed herself away in a corner, scribbling away in a notebook with a half made hat perched on her head. It seemed the final quarter of school was beginning to get to the Gaian and she still had weeks to go. But being at the Shop was better than home at the moment, too many distractions there.

Aido was sitting aways away, humming to herself and bent over a book, eyes scanning over the maps displayed on the pages, turning them every so often to look at another page her finger held in place.

Shiroi pushed open the door to the Stationary Shop, a small bell chiming her entrance. Miako followed her, gripping Shiroi's hand tightly and stumbling on occasion; she hadn't quite gotten the art of walking down yet.

"Hello?" Shiroi called, "Is anyone in here?"

Chao didn't even look up, too absorbed in her work to notice the newcomers. The headphones on her ears didn't help matters much.

Aido's eyes flickered off the page at the jangle and quickly she manuvered two scraps of paper into the book, marking her place before she set the book aside and stood up, smiling at Shiroi and Miako.
"Hello and welcome to the Tall Tales Stationary Shop," hopefully Linny wouldn't mind her breif take over of his role as greeter.
She glanced at Miako and her smile grew a tiny bit. Another Tale! And one she hadn't met yet at that.

"Hi," Shiroi said, smiling at the child. "I'm Shiroi, and this is Miako. She's a little shy around new people."

"Hello." Miako said, looking at the older girl, and her.. halo? Was she a Tale, like herself?

Aido nodded her head, "nice to meet you Sh-Ms. Shiroi," she didn't like using the honorifics, even if her mother insisted that you didn't usually call those older than yourself by their first name.
Her halo was glowing dimly and hovering a bit above her head, though it seemed to glow brightly for a moment only to dip lower to her head as Aido breifly noticed Miako's attention on it. Truthfully Aido didn't notice the action, nor control it really.
Nodding to Shiroi she knelt down on her knees, lessening the slight difference in height between herself and Miako, and offering her hand to the younger Tale, "hello Miako, my name's Ai. Nice to meet you."

Chao finally looked up as the introductions began and jolted softly as she noticed Shiroi and Miako. Dropping her notebook and pulling off her headphones she waved to the two. "Hello over there," she called, standing up.

"Nice to meet you too, Ai-san." Miako said, grabbing Aido's hand.

Satisfied that Miako was going to be okay, Shiroi walked over to Chao. "Hi, I'm Shiroi. Your name is... Chao, right? My memory for names is horrible."

Aido blinked, puzzeled by the tag on her name. She glanced to Chao, who smirked and mouthed 'honorific.' Aido made a face at her Author, deciding that she would fine out percisely to then turned back to Miako with a small smile as she gave the other girl's hand a small shake, "would just Ai be alright?"

Chao nodded to Shiroi, "yep! Chao is I. Or... I am Chao," she chuckled and pulled at her hair, her brain felt scrambled from the school work. "It's nice to meet you Shiroi." She looked over to Aido and Miako, "ooo, is that little one a new Tale?"

"Okay, Ai." Miako nodded, "You came from the book too, right? Are there other Tales too?"

"Yep, Miako came out of the Tome a week ago. Scared the heck out of me, too. And it's been interesting trying to take care of her, I never was a very good babysitter."

"The Tome you mean?" she asked, glancing towards the currently locked study. "I think so.... The Tome is nice to talk to when the Study's open."
At the mention of other Tales she nodded, thinking of her friends. "Yeah! There are a lot of us Tales. There's Linny, Viddy, Khia, Ang'lus, Capn' Tybo, Nala, Jiro and a bunch more!"

"You get used to it after a while, don't worry. Second nature, accuried insticts and all that. Aido's been with me..." she paused, glancing at a calendar and chuckling in slight amazement, "for a little over three months now actually." How time flies....

Miako's eyes widened at the mention of so many people. "Wow, Ai knows lotsa Tales!" she exclaimed. "But Miako only knows Ai..." She cast her eyes downwards in a feeling of inadequacy. "But maybe Ai eentroduce Mii to some?"

"Three months? So you must have a lot of practice with that sort of stuff." Shiroi said, keeping one eye on the talking Tales.

Aido smiled kindly, "Aemu takes me here alot so Ai gets to meet a lot of other Tales," she shrugged and moved from bending on her knees to sitting crosslegged.
"O'course! Soon Mii will know lotsa Tales and if Ai's here she'll introduce Mii to them," she nodded firmly.

"Errr... sorta. Sometimes I think you can never have a lot of practice when it comes to anything in Gaia," she thought about what had happened in the last few months and shook her head gently.

"Yay! Thank you!" Miako said, clapping her baby hands.

"That's true. Gaia is so unpredictable, well, always." Shiroi then noticed the clock in the corner of the room, and more importantly, the time it said on it. "Oh, crap! Not good, not good. I'm afraid I have to run. It was nice meeting you! Mii, say goodbye to Aido."
Shiroi picked up Miako and hustled out of the store, Miako waving to Aido over the redhead's shoulder.

Aido smiled at Miako's happy reaction but then blinked as the younger Tale was scooped up into her Author's arms, standing again she waved, "bai Mii and Shiroi!"

Slightly startled Chao smiled and waved to the two, "see you! It was nice meeting you two!" she called after them before glancing over to Aido, "we should be heading home as well."

Nodding Aido grabbed her book and slid on her newly acquired sneakers, watching as her mother got her own things before the two of them stood and headed out the door.

*Compilation stolen from Aido's Tome because Shiroi is lazy like that.

After a long while of nagging (which, by the way, Vidya was getting VERY good at), Enoh had finally caved to take her Tale daughter to the shop once more. After all, the grounding sentence was lifted now, having been three weeks since the initial...incident. So why not go out and make new friends now, eh?

It was lucky for Enoh that she didn't have to worry about Vidya. Well..too much, anyway. The shapeshifter, shortly upon settling herself into one of the most comfortable chairs in the shop (by pure accident, of course), had quickly fallen asleep, leaving Vidya to her own devices. She'd been very busy lately, and it was starting to wear her down physically as well as mentally. She needed this sleep.

Vidya, perfectly aware that her mother was asleep, never even thought of taking advantage of the situation. She had gotten what she wanted, and thus was going to be a very good girl to ensure another visit.

So, at this current point in time, Vidya had seated herself on one of the carpets near the chairs, waiting for someone to play with. As she waited, she played with Forte and Kalani. The former was an orange dream plushie, one who was named after Fortuna, who was the Dream bird her father owned. The latter pretended to be a plushie in the shape of a green dragon, and nobody seemed to understand Vidya when she insisted that the plush was alive, and that it was playing tricks on her. It was this fact that made her lament ever picking up the plush, but at the same time, she didn't want to hurt his feelings by abandoning him.

She was strange that way.

Shiroi sighed as she dragged Miako down the street, towards the Stationary Shop. Even after her meeting with Aido, it seemed that her Tale was still a bit anti-social. It had taken a great deal of pleading and a bit of bribery to peel Miako away from her pile of books, and she was going to make the most of it.

Upon reaching the shop, Shiroi saw Enoh napping through the window, and entered as quietly as she could. Seeing Vidya playing on the ground, she let Miako go, with instructions to play with the other Tale.

Chances are, even if Shiroi had come in banging pots and pans together, the shapeshifter wouldn't even budge.

Vidya's sidewings twitched upon hearing the door open, the small girl instantly looking over her shoulder to see who it was. Unable to get a clear view of the door, she turned fully around, now sitting and facing the other child.

As was her custom, Vidya was picking out things on the other child that she liked...and within seconds of looking at her, she knew exactly what she was going to say.

Grinning and bouncing to her feet, she toddled over towards the other girl, holding out her hand like she'd seen so many adults do.

"'Allo! M'Viddy...! N'You gots pretty eyes...Blue. Viddy likes blue! N'yer horn...s'like a uni-corn!"

Shiroi resigned herself to browsing through the shelves, keeping an eye on the two Tales.

Miako blushed, unused to this kind of praise. She took the energetic girl's hand, shaking it.

"I'm Miako! 'S nice to meet you, Viddy-chan! You gots a pretty jewel on your head! Mii likes blue too." Nodding energetically, Miako noticed one more thing. "You gots wings!" Naturally, the young Tale was enthralled my the feathery contraptions on Vidya's head.

Vidya giggled, only happily shaking Miako's hand. Oh, she loved praise! In fact, the blue girl liked Miako even more now, aside from the fact she was so interesting to look at. At the mention of her wings however, the blue child let go of the other's hand, only to press the back of her own hands against her pointed ears, and wiggling her fingers only because she thought it was fun.

"Yes! Viddy gots wings! Dun work tho. Just...there."

Shrugging, she dropped her arms to her sides again, her attention caught by the other girl's horn. Giving Miako a curious look, Vidya pointed towards it.

"C'n Viddy touch't?"

Miako looked warily at the blue-skinned Tale.

Feeling her horn pulse slightly, she quickly said "M'kay, but not for too long," not wanting the other girl to feel bad. "An- can Mii touch Viddy's wings?"

Oh, how she wanted wings of any sort.

Vidya looked ecstatic that she was allowed to touch the interesting looking extremeity the other girl possessed. Touch her wings? Yeah, that was about a fair trade. Vidya giggled, nodding happily.

"YAY! Thank'oo! N'..M'kies! You c'n touch Viddy's wings!"

Of course there was no problem with it...as long as the feathers didn't get pulled. When it came to the feathers, she was very, very glad she didn't have as many feathers as her Captain did.

Carefully, she reached out to gently brush her fingers against the horn, just testing it before dragging her fingers along the surface. Ooh...it felt so NEAT!

Miako giggled as Vidya's fingers ran along her horn. That tickled! The child, of course, had no understanding about what her horn was made of, and thus couldn't realize that it definitely wasn't Vidya's fingers that were making her laugh.

One Vidya was finished, Miako said slightly impatiently, "My turn! My turn!"

Without waiting for a response, she reached out and brushed Vidya's wings, smiling happily [and enviously] at the silky texture of the feathers.

At Miako's impatience, Vidya lowered her arms to let the other girl play with her wings, the tale's white eyes closing as a rather lopsided smile formed on her lips...This TICKLED. She squirmed lightly with each twitch her wings gave, the tale giggling gleefully.

By the time Miako had finished, Vidya's arms were pressed tightly to her chest, her hands in fists just inder her chin...and looking like she might fall over from laughing from being tickled.

At seeing the other Tale's obvious ticklishness, Miako smiled wickedly. Could anyone say tickle torture time? She renewed her efforts, laughing gleefully.

"...EEP!"

Vidya hadn't expected Miako to go for the wings again. The blue girl recoiled a little bit, and then fell back into her fit of laughter, trying in vain to get the other girl to stop tickling her.

Of course, her laughter made this damn near impossible!

Finally, Miako stopping tickling the girl's wings, mainly because she herself was also laughing too hard to keep up the tickling. However... her hand caught on one of the feathers, accidentally pulling it out. Miako froze in horror, all laughter immediately dispersing.

"Aa, Mii is sososo sorry!" Miako blubbered, on the verge of tears. "Mii din't mean to, I swear!" The Tale buried her face in her hands, hoping that Vidya wouldn't be mad at her.

Vidya's white eyes widened as the tell-tale pain of a pulled feather hit her. A hiss escaped her lips, and nothing more for another long while, her blue hands pressed tightly against her sidewings. Shortly after her hiss of pain, Vidya bit down on her bottom lip to keep herself from whimpering, and tears of pain formed in her tightly closed eyes.

Ooooh did that ever hurt! After a while of silence and fending off pain and whimpers, Vidya slowly lowered her blue hands, looking to see if the tugged feather had drawn any blood. Luckily it hadn't, though she didn't really think it would bleed in the first place. Sniffling, Vidya wiped her eyes, getting rid of those pesky tears. She had heard the other girl's horrified plea, though at first, Vidya was a little hesitant to reply. But when she did, there was no malice in her tone or expression.

"...S'okay...jus' an accid'nt. Mii no cry...!"

Her wing still hurt, but that was nothing right now. Vidya disliked seeing others cry, and it was just a small feather, no big deal, right? Miako really didn't mean to, and Vidya knew that perfectly. She might have been angry (though probably only for a little bit) with Miako if she'd done it on purpose, but since she hadn't, Vidya was willing to forgive and forget.

Trying to make light of things, Vidya piped up, brightening in expression and tone.

"Yeah, S'was jus' an accid'nt! Mii c'n keep Viddy's feter, if you wants! Jus'..no cryin, kay?"

User Image

Reaching out, Vidya hugged Miako, desperate to get the girl to realize she wasn't angry with her, and that it was just an accident. No hard feelings on her part whatsoever,

Miako's mind blanked out, not even hearing Vidya's desperate pleas that it was an accident. All she could here was the sound of her failure, ringing through her ears. She had hurt someone; made them feel bad. Ugh, she was so stupid! Miako smacked her forehead lightly with her hands, cursing herself.

She finally snapped out of it as she felt Vidya hugging her, realizing that the other Tale wasn't mad at her, or at least was very good at hiding it. Sniffling a bit, she hugged Vidya back.

Shiroi looked at her watch, and realized that it was time to go. Gathering up her things, she went to seek out Miako. Seeing the emotional moment between the two, she paused a moment, and then said gently, "Miako sweetie, we have to go. Say goodbye to Vidya, okay?"

Miako smiled weakly at the blue-skinned girl. "Guess Mii has t'go. Thank you for the feather. Mii will pay you back, 'kay?"

Waving to Vidya, Miako left the stationary store.

Shiroi's Journal - June 11, 2005

It's official, we're moving. I don't know... these last weeks were just so hectic, and the apartment was so chaotic. Something just snapped. I went out, looked around, signed the papers, and now I'm the owner of a nice little two story house behind Agatha's jewelry store in Barton Town. We're moving out next week.

I still haven't told Myria, Kaz, or Miako yet. I don't know how exactly I'm going to tell them, or have any idea of how they'll take it. Kaz and Myria will probably be happy that we're moving, but Miako.... she seems to get attached to things rather easily, so she might not take the idea so well. We'll see when I tell them tomorrow.

Interesting Reactions

"Oof!"

"Move it!"

"I'm trying!"

Shiroi looked on with a rather bemused expression on her face as she watched her two Kyr argue over the little remaining floor space in the main room of her small apartment. Miako and herself were seated quite comfortably on the small tan loveseat, but because of their hooved status, Kazra and Myria were left quite out of room.

Once they were settled, Kazra turned his head to glare at Shiroi. "I know this amusing for you and all, but do you mind telling us why we're here?" he commented peevishly.

Shiroi rolled her eyes as she glanced at her Kyr. She could always count on Kaz to tell the straight truth; the Kyr had no sense of tact, or at least he didn't show it to her.

Taking a deep breath, Shiroi paused before going on, saying just a simple phrase that she had practiced saying to her mirror over and over again the night before: "We're moving."

The tiny living room fell completely silent for a moment as she finished her sentence, only to be broken by Miako's curious question. Her young Tale had a puzzled expression on her face as she was attempting to comprehend what Shiroi had just said. "Y'mean that... we're... going away?"

Shiroi sighed as she sat down on the small couch with Miako. So much for her hopes that telling her would be simple; just a quick statement and then moving right on to packing up. She stalled for a moment, wringing her hands, as she tried to figure out how she could possibly explain what moving was. "Not exactly. We're going to go pack up all of your things into boxes, and then take it to a new, bigger house, and unpack, and... live there." Shiroi finished lamely, hoping her somewhat lackluster explanation made more sense to the young Tale then it did to her or her Kyr.

Waiting nervously (and somewhat impatiently) for Miako's response, Shiroi began to pace in the small space in front of the couch, fretting about all of the possible outcomes that it could take, her mind immpediately jumping to temper tantrums or screaming fits. Not that her Tale was especially prone to either, but Shiroi hadn't exactly done anything as major as this, either. However, no amount of daydreaming or contemplating would have prepared her for Miako's response.

"Moving's a good thing, right?" Miako said in a small voice, hugging her small purple tome to her chest as if it would disappear if she loosened her grip. Attempting to sound cheerful as she went on, her voice wavered and fluctuated, getting quieter as she remarked "If moving's a good thing, then Mii will be happy for us, kay?" The young Tale then silently picked herself up and exited the room, making sure not to face Shiroi or the kyrs. as she padded towards her own bedroom, closing the door firmly behind her, and leaving her Author flabbergasted.
