I don't really have a favorite author. I don't like authors, I like books. If I loved an author, and they came out with a dud I would not defend it. Which is why I only like books. A book is either good or bad, who wrote it matters not. If, by chance, and author died and I was in the middle of his/her book, then I would make my own personal ending. Just for my peace of mind, I don't like leaving a good book unfinished. 3nodding

I'd just cry. Cry and cry. But I would be happy if someone ATTEMPTED to finish it....but it still wouldn't be the same...I'd think that somebody would just screw up the series. But if they make it better, YAY!
I refuse to make endings to others' stories. It's THEIR story, not mine.... Unless I'm just writing fanfiction XP I'm all up for writing fun fanfiction.

I know I'd be pretty darn devastated if any of my favourite authors died. If they bit it before they finished their final installment I would hope that their final notes would be published for everyone to read. I wouldn't want anyone, even their spouses or children or close friends to finish the final chapters since it wouldn't feel the same.
I'd much rather read what the author wanted to put down on paper and either leave it at that or write my own ending. Hopefully I don't go before my series is finished. I'll be sure to write the final installment before I'm 50 just in case the apocolypse comes and takes the world, or I die of unforseeable medical or otherwise, circumstances.

oh man, if robert jordan didn't finish his Wheel of Time series before he died it would be terrible!! The plot of the books and everything put together, the books are just so fantastic that I wouldn't be able to survive without finding out what happened in the end. I really get into each book and the plot and the characters and what is happening that it just wouldn't be right if it wasn't ended by the one and only Robert Jordan. By the way, all the people here, if you haven't hear of Jordan or haven't read his books, you don't know what you're missing! IF you want a really thrilling and ever-interesting read, then this is a must. Anyone else who has read the books in this series can back me up I am sure. mrgreen

Well, Douglas Adams died in the midst of writing a new book. They published what he had written, along with other various writings found on his computer, in a book called "The Salmon of Doubt". It made me that much sadder at his passing when I read it and knew I would never get to know what happens next.
I always wished I had the power of the Necroscope (Brian Lumley is the author for those who don't know). He was able to speak to the dead, and found out that a person would continue doing, if only mentally, whatever they did when alive. So authors would continue writing after their death.

i'd try and complete the series myself! that would be much fun for me to do though it probably wouldn't be as good if they wrote it!

*sigh* Wiccan rituals don't work like that. And when magic is involved, it's called Witchcraft. Don't post if you're going to say things without knowing what you're talking about. -LD

I wold be really mad and sad if they died. I might try one book of a say continusation by a famiey to see if it was good but there would be no garuntee. For all you know the person who takes pver will be just as good or kill the series. or nobody takeover and you get to invent ending in your head even you don't write it down just for your peace of mind.

junkpile Well i do have to say that the writing style definitely took some getting used to....and i had nothing better to do with no power, a bunch of candles and books, and nobody to talk to....(caught in snow drift in Colorado when moving away from Utah) crying that would definitely give some people something to do. also what part of Utah? i'm from Sandy.

if one of my fav authors died, i would hunt down their every living kin, and put them out, to ensure what happened to Dune will never happen to my fav novels xp
[imo; dunes brillant, but im not big on scifi, his son slaughtered it in a pathetic excuse to cash-grab by taking advantage of his fathers loyal fans]

idealy i would look through all their notes, they'll have the ending written somewhere. if not their friends might have been told what could happen. if all else fails i preform a ooiji board (i KNOW i can't spell it, you try better!) *shudders* and find out that way. they better not though cause i never want to have to do a board
