To me,It looks like they did something to Olaf. If it is Olaf.Afterall,he isn't the only person with a tattoo of an eye on their ankles.

I was thinking the striped pants might be a clue, but can't recally if anyone was wearing something like that at the end of TPP. xd (looks back at picture) Yeah, either they did something, or it's more the aftermath of a shipwreck and they're discovering him or something.

Or they planned to do something to the ship that would hurt Olaf but they could get away safely.

IT reminds me of the first book. It hit me as some sort of wreckage, but almost that of Olaf's tower. Maybe he hung himself. The birdcage may be the same Sunny was caught in. Also, does anyone notice Sunny's ribbon color change? It used to be sky blue. Violet is holding her ribbon and her hair really is a mess without it. Interesting...

If it was Olaf's tower, then how do we get the water and seaweed? I assumed it was more inland. No? Hmm..... And I think Sunny's ribbon changes periodically. It looks red in TSS, blue in TGG. and yellow in the top inset of TPP. 3nodding

I think the think the apples have two different possibilities from the ones previously mentioned in the topic:
A: In the first book there was mention of a bowl of apple cores in Count Olaf's house when they first enter, so maybe count olaf chokes on an apple?
B: If they ARE shipwrecked on an island...snicket mentioned something about an island somewhere that doesn't allow the removal of it's fruit.
And the Baudelaires do look kind of guilty...

@ KiraLight: I think that's the old cover before this picture was recently released. They did a similar blank cover for TPP if you recall with the whole "Nameless Novel" deal. But I think this new cover is it, other book sites are now posting it as well. 3nodding

KiraLight oh yeah..I remember but the title sucks it doesn't alliterate stare I think he did that to make it all the more significant. If it breaks the sequence he's held up for 12 books, he has to have good reason. I for one, am extremely excited, that cover looks great.
