Super Laon
With company, Laon had steeled himself for conversation. He put on his best face and sat up straight when Persephone approached. He set down the silverware he’d been trying to work because he was afraid his hands would sweat and he’d drop them anyway.
“Hi, yes,” he said quickly, and extended his hand to shake. For a split second it looked like he might pull back, but he was already committed to it and didn’t want to make it awkward. He caught Arawn eating the steak as if he’d forgotten how to use utensils but understood this was just him trying to keep up his own wall.
So, best to speak quickly and make sure he didn’t feel too crowded.
“I’m Laon,” he said, but maybe he’d already introduced himself. It was a bit blurry. “I’m fine, thank you. No adverse aftereffects,” he said, but he’d have lied if there had been. “I wanted to say thank you.” Was it cringe to say that he’d hoped he’d see her? He’d hoped he didn’t see her too but he didn’t want to say that. It was complicated.
He didn’t want to be reminded of his weakness but he was glad that there had been people there to help him.
He was alive. He could see.
Things were okay. Probably.
Persephone seemed like she might have had a lot of stories but he didn’t want to pry any more than he wanted to overextend Arawn’s patience. Short and sweet, maybe that was good enough. Especially in a large group. Maybe they’d run into each other some other time.

Prince Remarque
Remarque raised a hand to greet Persephone but he waved his hand dismissively when she apologized. It was an open invitation to come get some food; as long as she showed up so he didn’t have to drop it off, he didn’t care how late she was. It was good to see her. He didn’t interrupt her once she made her way to Laon and Arawn; it was probably good for them to talk.
He nodded to Ariadne. “You’re missing out. It’s a lot of fun.” Hybris was right, though, so that earned him a nod, too. “The Mirror probably would. I would, too. Would be nice to know we’ve got a little place we can fall back on if we aren’t able to save the world next time”
It was easy to shrug it off; Remarque wasn’t the sort to give up or think there was anything they couldn’t do. They’d put their back into it, but luck had been on their side, too. There were a hundred different ways a single thing might have gone wrong and ruined their chances.
He didn’t waste time thinking about them. They had a future to worry about; no point in wasting time on the past.
“But,” he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth and eyed Storm. “I’m pretty partial to treasure hunts, myself. One of these days we’ll have to get together and compare what we’ve found.” He had a collection–a strange assortment of mostly useless, if not at least interesting items. “There’s a lot of crystals out there in the corners of Mirrorspace, too. You can use those to build up your ‘islands’ if you haven’t started already. Seems like there’s not really a limit to what you can build. Maybe we should do a tour of them one day, too.”
Or, maybe he was making too many plans. Or not enough?
There was so much left in Mirrorspace; he knew they’d only scratched the surface of all it had to offer.
They had time.
