[Solo] Peace at Last
Wangui was sitting patiently in the clearing, waiting for the rest of the class to arrive for their next round of training. Her hands were drumming on the stump she sat upon, making a beat that only she seemed to hear. Occasionally, she'd whistle or sing under her breath, close her eyes and imagine herself moving to the music. The young girl always seemed to dance her way around the field, and more often than not her instructors would admonish her for 'playing around'. They didn't seem to realize that the music helped her move, helped her concentrate and often she was much more successful when she danced to a song.
Her instructors instead claimed that the music would distract her, and fighting was no sort of dance. It was a bloody mess.
Pausing in her finger tapping, the girl tilted her head to the side and listened with her antennae. The sound of feet moving in the distance wasn't from her fellow younglings. No, it was the elder Alkidike that moved through their camp, their hushed whispers fervent as they seemed to seek a place to speak in private.
Maybe they assumed no youngling would be in the area considering how early it was before the next training session. They clearly didn't realize how keen Wangui was to practice with her weapons.
Shifting a bit, Wangui figured this would be a great time to practice with her special hearing, the one that came from her antennae. Closing her eyes and breathing softly, she let the sounds fade away and attempted to fixate on the voices of the two elders.
"Can you believe it, Tespia?" The first asked, her voice sounding strained, "They say Danika actually met with the Extremist Mystic and they decided on peace."
The young girl took a moment to consider what was said. Danika was the mystic on Chibale, a young leader who could hear the great tree Aisha. She also helped bloom the children there and might come to visit them soon. The extremists were across the sea, traitors to their homeland and never permitted on Chibale again. They hated Earthlings so much they wanted to purge them from Tendaji, and the Chibale Alkidikes did not agree on such extreme actions. Never did they think that the extremists would be welcome to Chibale again.
Apparently they now were. Wangui leaned forward a bit more to see if she could hear anything else.
"It's hard to comprehend, but not impossible," The other Alkidike spoke up after a long moment, "Seems that even they see value in sisterhood when their mother tree begins to die..."
The Extremist tree was dying? Wangui took in a deep breath to hold her gasp, surprised at the news. No one shared that information with the young Vandrea tribe. Did that mean their tree might soon die too? Was the tree too young to survive on foreign soil? Wangui pulled her thumb to her mouth, nibbling on her nail in a nervous tic she often didn't show to others.
"Well," The first sister replied, "It seems Danika solved the problem, and in thanks they now can travel back and forth. We might soon see those Elaria on our rootline if we're not careful."
Wangui actually gasped at this. She knew there were Elaria out there, similar to the Alkidikes but with different coloring. They too fled the island where their tree was and allegedly founded their own home where fishfolk lived underwater. She heard from the others that there might even be young cousins from a tree just like their own.
Wangui wanted to see them, but did she want to risk running into such angry cousins like the Elaria?
Sure, the young girl wasn't scared to fight them, but she had a nice sense of respect. Any elder Aishan was a warrior, trained to fight. To face off against evil, bloodthirsty sisters that didn't seem to respect the ways of Aisha seemed like a dangerous task indeed. Wangui would need quite a bit more training to manage, possibly years. She hoped that the extremists wouldn't journey across the sea, through the sky, and land on the shore of her home.
Noises broke her out of her thoughts, and she realized the two Alkidikes also heard them. They began to walk away, their voices dropping even more as they went out of range. Wangui wondered if she could stalk them, but realized that Aishans were skilled as sensing movements and it was a lost cause. Plus, she had some training to do. The group of young Vandrea raced into the clearing, chattering excitedly about the day's training and looking eagerly at the blunt, wooden weapons before them. The matron trainers also arrived, hushing the girls as they began to inspect the weapons.
One glanced her way, but she simply smiled with bright white teeth. She wasn't one to practice with the weapons...at least not in such an obvious way.
Instead, Wangui looked around at the group and for her sister. She had to let Hesperia know what she heard, and hopefully they could go and confront their mothers. They needed to know what threats were out there if they were to be the leaders of their future race. Yes, it wouldn't do to be left in the dark, and Wangui took her role seriously. She'd get answers, and she'd be ready for any invaders who decided to come to her island.

Solo - Class Affinity
Wangui found herself back in the training fields, her second home as most of her sisters would tease. They found it funny that the girl would get so focused when preparing for battle, yet would indulge in treats and snacks as if she were the earthling royalty they heard about. It wasn't as if Wangui didn't take her duty seriously, it just seemed as if she really lived by the "work hard, play hard" mentality.
Many found it interesting when comparing her to her sister, who was softer in a way. But Wangui didn't mind the comparison. Hesperia was her own Aishan, just as she was her own Aishan. They each had their part to play, and Wangui believed her part was the play
You see, Wangui knew her destiny was to protect her blooming sisterhood. It was to be a front line defender of the sisters and eventual mystics of her tribe. To ensure that no one could harm them, and hunt down those who dare try. She would be the strongest, most dangerous flower in the field, delving into techniques that many sisters might turn away from. For as long as she protected her sisters, there was nothing that would stop her.
As a result of this mindset, Wangui spent years trying out different weapons, magicks, and potions. She attempted to learn the whips, the daggers, the sabers and swords. Every time she'd look at the techniques critically, were they earsier to execute on mount? Could they be used in a quiet, covert setting? Could she douse them in potions to inflict even more than the slide of the blade?
It was all worth considering, and when one took note of the girl when she considered such things, they might have been surprised. Wangui was often told that her warrior face was terrifying compared to the indulger she showed while away from battle. Though everyone agreed she was a beast, if but in different ways.
Wangui moved back and forth between the weapon racks, humming slowly as she considered her options. Sure, she'd continue to train in all weapons, but this was something she needed to focus on. The weapon that would forge the path of her future. Her mastery weapon, that would allow her to make the biggest impact.
As she finished her pacing, she found herself standing before a tall rack of weapons, gleaming as if drawing the light of the room. Moving her callused hand to brush it across the handle of the weapon, before pulling it off slowly with a deep breath. The weapon wasn't one she was used to using, considering they mostly got practice items to help them get their strength, but even so it felt...light. Maybe that's because she insisted on getting heavier and heavier practice items to over-build her weight. That way it felt light as air, meaning she could move it faster than an Earthling's eye could track.
Grinning slowly in glee at the weapon's touch, she stepped away from the racks and toward the practice ring. Many of her sisters had left to go enjoy their evening meal, but Wangui knew she had to prepare for her trials to becoming a blade. That meant she had to keep pushing herself. She would lead the charge, lead her class, and lead her sisterhood. She had to be the best.
As she began to slowly swing the weapon, the tip seemed to glow like starlight. It wasn't magic, no it was the look of an actual weapon being moved swiftly through the air. Wangui went through her paces, her lean body moving quickly with the weapon in toe, before ending the practice with a deep breath. Sweat dripped down her brow as she set the weapon down, tip to the ground.
Yes, this was the right choice. A spear, an extension of herself. She could use the other weapons, of course, but this was her battle song. This was her future.

Growth Solo (513)
[ After a lifetime of Training, Wangui completes the evaluation to become a blade, finally swearing to uphold the Aishan ways and protect her sisterhood. This accomplishment finally means she can pursue her commitment to keep her family, sisters, and land safe. ]
Wangui stood in front of the elders, along with some of her other sisters. This was the moment they had trained for, the moment they would prove they were ready. From what her teachers had explained, this was more symbolic than anything. All the girls were of age and ready to take on the mantle of Blade, but the matrons wanted to celebrate an accomplishment. Wangui wasn't one to refuse. As each Vandrea was handed the weapon they had chosen, an actual weapon and not the practice ones they had used before, they stood proud before each other.
This trial would be a practice with an elder warrior, a chance to demonstrate mastery of the weapon in both attack and defense. Sure, they weren't sparring for real, and the sisters before them wouldn't be pushing them too hard, but they were told it would be realistic enough that they best be prepared to act fast. This wasn't the drills they could complete in their sleep, this was a spar.
Wangui found herself grinning. She didn't bounce or fidget like the others, or bite her nails nervously. No, she lounged as if she were waiting for a meal, casually commenting to some of the sisters to help sooth their nerves. Yet, the whole time she was ready, her muscles limber and her gaze keen. Even the matrons could look pass the behavior to see she was a warrior ready to go like most of the other sisters.
The spar itself was a rush. Wangui moved like a Keldari, striking quickly and rolling out of the way. She used her spear like the wind, her muscles strong and ready to hold up the challenge. Even when she nearly was struck and stumbled, she found a way to get up again and keep moving. After the spar was over, the Warrior before her smiled and nodded, pride in her eyes as she looked down at Wangui, bruised and huffing. It was a challege, but Wangui would have it no other way. They knew that, and they let her get her licks in.
As the ceremony ended, the newly minted blades celebrated together with cheers, hugs, and secret whispers to meet after dark. Well, maybe that was Wangui whispering, the wine she had saved for this event waiting for the girls to celebrate under the moonlight. Not all were that type of way, but she hoped a few would let lose and celebrate such an exciting event.
They were the next generation of fighters, and while they might have much to deal with in the future, now was a time to celebrate. This was a major accomplishment, and just one step toward being the protector she swore to be at the end of the ceremony. She would live by the Aishan ways, and die by them if it meant she protected her sisterhood, her family.
That was the rules Wangui would live by, would hope others would live by. But her sister's weakness would be her strength, and together they would protect the future of their tribe.
