Festival in Chiume
Wangui 1
Wangui was enjoying the summer break from fighting, using the day as a 'cheat day' to splurge on food and indulge in revelry. She hadn't seen her sister for the day, but more often than not they would run into each other at some point during these things. For now, she'd go and find some of the sultry meats and delicious sweets before heading over to the mother tree to wish for a prosperous year filled with growth. Who knows, maybe if the mothers blessed her enough, she'd finally gain her title as a Blade part of the sisterhood.

Verose 1
Verose was wandering around the festival, a patchwork cloth wrapped around her head as she kept to herself. Even if she wasn't singled out, events like these tended to make her feel like a bit of an outsider. By covering up, maybe she would get along without people taking note of her outside-ness in this world.
It wasn't as bad with the Vandrea, considering she grew up training next to them, but some of the elder cousins would look at her with hesitance. Even with the fact they came from a place open to hybrids, they still were hesitant and getting used to the concept. Especially one that looked so...earthling.

Wangui 2
Walking between each of the vendors, Wangui sampled the treats with decadence and poise. While she may be a fighter, she knew how to enjoy herself. Now that she was growing confident in her prowress, she began to also explore other things. Food and romance were things she was starting to appreciate as she grew older. Sure, she still focused on her family and her sisterhood, but sometimes people got bored when they were on the top of the class.
For now, she was too young to really explore a love life, so food it was. She worked hard enough that food didn't really settle on her body. But that didn't mean that she'd let this be a daily occurance.
"Today simply is a call for celebration." She hummed joyfully as she licked her fingers to clean up the leftover spices from her latest treat.

Verose 2
Finding herself near some of the vendors, Verose grabbed a stick of toasted meat, nibbling on it as she wandered about and took everything in. Every day she would debate her future, either here on the isle or out in the world. Being part of a festival like this made her wonder if she'd see such sights in the Earthling communities.
Suddenly, she overheard Wangui and smiled to herself. Wangui was such a straightforward girl. Always seeking a fight, wanting to protect the world and her sisterhood. It was an admirable quest that Verose respected greatly.
That and Wangui was one of the first to treat her as an equal, considering they both trained with each other.
"What are we celebrating today, Wangui?" She called out, joining the girl's side.

If it wasn't her favorite hybrid. If one of the few hybrids Wangui got to speak with. She wasn't as bright eyed as her sister, but Wangui did enjoy being around the girl who looked so different compared to her dark sisters.
"Why, the prosperity of our great sisterhood, of course!" She said with a grin, waving at a vendor for some more food.
"Rare I see you wandering about at these things, Verose."

Verose felt her cheeks warm at the offhanded comment, because it was true. She didn't like getting into crowds, even if she could try and be lost in them. Eventually, she'd be found by someone with judgmental eyes.
"You said it yourself, today is a special day. Even a recluse like me is expected to go out"

Sometimes Wangui really felt that Verose was trying to get off this island as fast as possible. Which was really strange considering how much Wangui wanted to stay and protect her sisters. But that was just it...Verose wasn't a sister. She was a cousin with mixed blood, and often would travel to her other home. Who knew what family meant to the girl in front of her.
"Expected? Do you not want to be here?"

Verose 4
Verose took a bite of her food to stall for time, chewing it in her cheeks until the meat was soft and mushy. Humming slowly at the question before swallowing the food. It was quite delicious this year, but Verose resisted getting another. She wanted to try some of the other food before heading out.
"I...do. You know I do. It's just..." Verose took a breath, "I just like doing things my own way sometimes..."

Wangui's amber eyes examined Verose for a long moment, before finishing her food and flicking the stick away with a snap of her hand.
"The great mother embraces all of us." She replied in an echo of their teachings, "We bloom from her roots and fuel her roots when we pass. No matter where we go, as long as we are there, so is she."
She was quiet a long moment before letting out a laugh, "Sometimes even I can't take it seriously. I celebrate my great mother by growing strong so I can protect her and her children. That's good enough for me."

Verose was taken aback by Wangui's honesty for a moment before remembering that was how she was. A straightforward fighter, proud of her accomplishments and willing to do whatever it takes to protect her family. Verose admired her for that, even if their paths were two very different ones unlikely to cross.
"Yeah...we all have our own ways of honoring our great mother." She replied slowly, blinking dark eyes back at Wangui's behavior.

Wangui hummed and waved off in reply, glancing about and wondering what to do next. Her eyes narrowed on the sweet bun vendor, boasting imported honeys from the Jauhar forests. Grinning to herself at such a rare treat, she turned back to Verose.
"Come now, let's celebrate some more with the fruit of our great mother. I for one wont pass up on some sweet buns if I can help it."

Nodding at Wangui, she smiled as she took looked over at the vendor. It was rare they had such a great treat on the isle, but many of the elder sisters boasted about the treats from Jauhar. It'd be a shame if they missed it.
"Ok, let's go before they drag us to the roots. Who knows if the vendor will be here when we're done praying." She lowly teased.

Laughing out loud at the jest, Wangui nodded before moving to grab Verose's hand, considering they'd need to wade through some of the crowd. Sure, Verose might be a little different than them, both in color and behavior, but they were friends in arms, fighters who trained under the same master.
As long as Verose didn't betray them in a way that would hurt the sisterhood, Wangui saw no problem spending time with the earthling-like sister.

Verose warmed again and took Wangui's hand, her heart warming as well at the gesture. Wangui was a bit rough around the edges, but she adored all of her family and this gesture made Verose feel like one of those people.
As they rushed through the crowd, with her head bowed Verose began to smile.
Maybe it was worth coming to this festival after all.
