6 - 10: Mudslide It has been a dry few weeks, and many were excited about the rains coming in. But alas, it seems that too much rain has caused a mudslide. The damage isn't bad, but there might be a few people missing that need to be tracked down.
Wangui and Hesperia's trip, after a brief interim in Sauti, they were turning their sights back to Jauhar, and the closer they got the more bubbly and energetic Hesperia became. Her sister bore it patiently enough, but Hesperia noted that their trip was almost halfway over - a fact she mourned, even if she knew she shouldn't. Going home was always in the cards, Hesperia had always framed this as an exploratory pilgrimage, but she liked how new and interesting everything was.
Back home meant settling down, finding a wife, or becoming a role model for more younglings, and as much as she liked those ideas, she wasn't quite ready for it yet.
For now, they were hovering around the borders of Tale and Sauti, breaking down from the craggy mountains and towards the flat, inhospitable looking savanna. Hesperia huffed out a breath, blowing some curls from her face as they looked down the path. A few others were traveling with them - a sister Alkidike chief among them as their guide, who called back among their group, hurrying them along. "We want to be camped as close to a tree as possible by nightfall, let's hustle!" The older Aishan called, stamping her walking stick for emphasis. Hesperia groaned under her breath, resisting the urge to reach down and rub her aching, sandaled feet. "I never saw the appeal of familiars before, back home - now I think I get it." She said, dreamily imagining having a mount to carry her.

[ Wangui 1 ] Wangui was enjoying the trip, not only for the sights but the people along the way. She had already met a few curious earthlings that she had a casual encounter with, testing the waters to see the best way to approach one for a evening of companionship. Every morning she walked away easily enough, focused on the journey and not minding the empty promises of returns. Her favorites were the ones who were content with one and no more, made it easy to consider a visit on the way back. Now, as they entered flatter lands with rolling fields, she let out a low whistle at the scenery. "We could try and get one...maybe trade or tame one." she replied simply, eyeing the leader and wondering why they were pushing so hard.

(2/7) Hesperia was... aware of her sister exploring the world, in her own way, but had very politely opted not to ask for details. Where Hesperia's curiosity about the world was more on the travel and seeing the world, her sister seemed just as curious about the people they met along the way.
As long as Wangui was back at camp by morning and ready to move along, Hesperia wouldn't pry for more details. She wasn't sure, in the end, if she'd be up to hearing them anyway.
There really wasn't much use for a large familiar back home, not if they had no intention of traveling again. And besides, would they be allowed on the ships anyway? Hes pondered the suggestion, more eager to contemplate that than to focus on her aching feet.
The guide kept lifting her head up, looking concerned. There'd been rains that held them up, but now that it was dry they should be able to move along unbothered. ... Right?
A bit further into their hike, though, they rounded one of the paths and came to a stop, with the guide staring with a frown ahead. The mountain path they'd been following ... had disappeared, as if carved away from the mountains and replaced with a steep pile of half dried mud and dirt. It wasn't... impossible to pass over, but a glance down the mountain showed a rather stomach churning fall if they should stumble.
"Maybe one that flies." Hesperia whispered to her sister, wide-eyed as the guide beckoned a few of the other travelers forward to inspect the damage.

[ Wangui 2 ] " Woah." She said with another whistle at the sight before them, stepping a little closer to peer down at the mass of earth and mud that was like a dried river. Never had she seen such a sight, and awe swept through her being. The power of such a thing, the trees drug down in the mass of mud, was inspiring. " There was that one...the one in the mountains. The big bird." She said back with a shrug, moving toward her sister and setting her spear down on the ground to keep stability, " You think anyone got hurt?"

(3/7) She certainly hoped not. Hesperia bit her lip, turning her head to follow the swathe of devastation. There were entire trees, smashed to pieces and half sunk in the half dried mud and debris. For at least twenty feet, the well worn path had been erased from the earth... but while steep, it wasn't impassable. The alternative was turning back the way they'd come - which was clearly the only option for those with carts and heavier packs who couldn't pass even if they wanted to. Those people stood surveying the destruction, frustrated and upset.
Hesperia edged closer, and balked when one of the earthlings next to their guide began to tentatively climb their way across the earthy slope, crouched low and using their hands to steady themselves. "We're not... continuing on, are we?" She asked doubtfully. The alkidike guide turned her head towards her and frowned, looking back up towards the slope above them. "This is a few days old at least. It's a risk, but going back is at least a week's delay if we turn back. You're more than welcome to turn back with the others, but those who want to go ahead will have me to guide them."

[ Wangui 3 ] Golden eyes continued to peer at the damage, before Wangui shook her head at the sight. Never had anything occurred back at home, and she was in awe at the power of the earth before her. Glancing at the guide who spoke on moving through the mess, Wangui found herself also a bit uncertain at the direction. Turning toward her sister, she shrugged, " The reason we got a guide was for situations like these...we should trust her judgement...unless you want to turn back and wait?"

(4/7) The guide said her piece and stepped forward, assisting a few brave, tentative travelers to pick their way across the debris. Hesperia wrung her hands, looking to her sister in question. It wasn't as if they had a deadline for their trip... the cowardly part of Hesperia wanted to turn tail and head back the way they'd come.
But she'd been the one to ask Wangui to come with her, and it felt cruel to waste even MORE of her precious time just because Hesperia was scared. "No! No we can - we should- yeah, lets go!" And before she could lose her nerve, Hesperia tugged up her skirts and proceeded forward, stifling a warble of discomfort as she clambered over the partly submerged trunk of a tree.

[ Wangui 4 ] Wangui kept close behind her sister, careful to use her balance and ensure each step had a surefire holding. There were a few precarious moments, but eventually she herself got the rhythm and moved fluidly throughout the space right behind her sister. She hesitated a moment, debating on speaking and deciding it might be for the best to focus and let them get past whatever this challenge was. They could laugh about it once they were on the other side with the rest of their party.

(5/7) Hess squeezed her eyes almost closed and kept a white knuckled grip on her skirts as she picked her way along the debris. With her sister behind her, she felt her nerves settle, at least enough to quicken her pace. If she kept it going, she could --
But then her foot landed on a section of ground that was soft and still wet, and she tripped, shrieking as the ground slid beneath her, certain that she'd started another landslide, that they'd be buried in mud and dirt and rock and be smothered to death -
"Goddess, calm down girl! It's more sturdy than that, your howling'll set it off before your clumsy feet do!" An older traveler scolded, shaking her head as Hesperia peered through her fingers, cheeks going warm with embarrassment. "Wangui, just knock me out and carry me." She complained, pouting as she pulled herself back to her feet, skirt and legs a muddy mess.

[ Wangui 5 ] Wangui reached out to help her sister up, her eyes concerned as she shook her head at the comments of the others. "Just ignore them, they are a bunch of old crones who are probably going blind." She whispered not too lowely as she sent a glare their way. Wangui was low-maintenance, unless of course someone gave her family issues. "I heard mud is good for your complexion..." Reaching forward, she moved to wipe some of the mud away and rubbed it on her face with a cheeky grin.

(6/7) Hesperia gratefully stood with her sister's help, then swatted her shoulder with a bubble of tense laughter. "Those are our elders, hush!" Yet, she was happy to have some reassurance. She gingerly stepped away from the mud, with her sister by her side, then turned to look at her with an inquisitive hum - only to burst into scandalized giggles, swinging her muddied skirts towards her sister's legs in vengeance.
Thankfully, Wangui's well-heard insult didn't cause a riot, and their ensuing playfulness emboldened some of the more wary travelers to start picking their way over the mudslide, so Hesperia would count it as a win.
"I'll be thankful to be back in a proper town, when this is over." She admitted once they'd cleared it.
