A Grand Gift

Torva looked down at the ornate wooden case that was being held out to him by his grandfather, up at the man, then around him at the various members of his family that were surrounding them. They all seemed to be waiting with their breath held for Torva to open the gift that he was being given by the old man and to be honest he actually found himself instantly filled with excitement, "Grandfather? What is it? What did you get me?" He asked as he reached out, taking the box that was being offered to him with shaking hands.

He took it from the man and squatted down so that he could rest the case on his lap, undoing to two latches before he opened it up. Torva went still, his green eyes going quite wide, as he starred down at the two fancy guns that lay there before him. One of them was red, the other blue, both of them shiny and new. They were guns that were meant for Torva alone as the case had his name engraved on the top of it and he realized what it meant. He was no longer just going to be practicing with borrowed guns, instead he would have a pair of his own to use. Swallowing hard he rand a finger tip along each of the magical pistols before he closed the case, setting it aside carefully.

From there he launched himself forward and into his grandfather's arms, hugging the man tightly, tears shining in his eyes, "Thank you! Thank you so much, Grandfather! I promise I will work even harder to become a great trick shooter!" He said while clinging to the man. As he did so the others around them set to cheering, congratulating Torva on becoming 'more of a man' and for graduating to having a pair of weapons of his own to practice with. While it didn't mean that he'd graduated from being a prentice just yet he was one step closer to that point now.

Taking a step back he set to scrubbing at his eyes, not wanting to look to weak and childish in front of his grandfather or the rest of the troupe at the moment. Giving his best smile Torva said, "Thank you so very much, grandfather. I will work hard, I promise! I will make sure that I make all my practices and that I absorb every last thing that you tell me!"

With that he was quick to squat back down, picking up the case so that he could hug it to his chest. It might seem foolish on his part but he couldn't even begin to explain how excited he was. These guns showed that his grandfather felt that he was ready for this sort of grand step! That he was ready to go forth in his training and do more then just shoot at static targets. Not only that but he would be able to do so with a pair of guns that were meant for Torva and Torva alone! It was so very exciting that he wasn't even sure what to do at the moment. There was a part of him that wanted to run straight to training! There was also a part of him that wanted to run over to his parents so that he could show off the guns that his grandfather had gotten for him, then there was the part that just wanted to jump up and down. He had no idea which to do!

His mother stepped forward, reaching out to rest a hand on his shoulder, giving him a smile, "No running off now, Torva. We are going to celebrate! I'm sure that father will be fine with that." Serfie turned to look over at her father, getting a slow nod from the man that said that he was alright with the idea of celebration. Giving a happy sound she turned back to first Torva, then the others that were gathered, "Let's get this party started then! My baby boy is well on his way to becoming a full fledged member of the troupe!" There was another cheer from the group as they all started forward, dragging Torva along with them, toward where the party would happen.

Giving a smile he looked up at his mother and said, "The party sounds like fun... though to be honest there is the part of me that wants to run off to pratice." He gave a little laugh as his mother pouted and shook her head, "I know, I know. Not yet. Soon though, alright? I want to be able to be able to really perform soon and I can only do that with Grandfather's help... but I will wait to do so, don't worry." That part said in a reassuring manner as he didn't want his mother to think that he meant to run away the moment the party started. It would be a lot of fun to hang out with the group, especially for party time!

Giving a clap of his hands he said, "It's alright, mother, I will stick around! So! Is there anything I can do to help?" It might be a party in his honor but that didn't meant that he wouldn't help her out if he could. Might as well since he wouldn't be sneaking out to practice any time soon. Setting the ornate case holding his guns aside he stepped closer to his mother and said, "Come on, let's begin! I don't mind helping out with the cooking!"

Serfie gave a smile and said, "Thank you my sweet Torva! I'm sure together we can make something delicious." She turned and called to the others gathered and said, "Let's get to cooking everyone! We want a whole buffet of foods to enjoy as a group!" There was a murmured of various voices that started to speak up, offering various ideas for what they should cook up. It didn't take long before everyone was working hard to prepare the food so the lot of them could really celebrate the step forward the Torva had taken.

Playing with the Twins

Torva was currently walking around on his hands, humming to himself as he went, flanked on one side by Svana, his pet vedra. The little beast was walking in a manner that was more akin to a jaunty dance then regular walking. She was also doing her best to sing along though to Torva it sounded a bit more like an out of tune honking sound, like the sort one heard when a youngling got their hands on a trumpet and tried to play it without understanding even the fundamentals. Not that it bothered the green eyed boy, instead he gave a little chuckle, "You really are the cutest beast ever to walk on four hooves, Svana!" He praised the beast in a manner that was completely biased. How could he not be biased when it came to the grey vedra though? After all he'd had her ever since she was just a tiny ball of fluff, freshly hatched from her egg.

Allowing his feet to fall forward he got up onto them, reaching out with a hand to pet Svana on the head, "Just look at you dance! It's so cute!" Her 'dancing' walk was far better then her singing voice, he'd give her that. It also made her appear that much more adorable in his eyes and he wanted nothing more then to scoop her up and give her a big hug! Something that he did instantly, putting the happily honking beast into his arms, snuggling her close, "I should bring you to meet with Kal and Tally sometime! They are both really pretty and really nice after all! I'm sure you'd love them!"

"Who are Kal and Tally?" Came a pair of sing song voices from behind Torva, causing him to whirl around, finding himself standing face to face with his twin baby sisters. The two of them were standing there in identical poses, arms crossed over their chests, waiting for an answer to the question. Inquiring minds wanted to know it would seem... but that wasn't really what caught his attention. Instead he seemed to bypass the question for now as he studied his little sisters closely.

He starred at them for a moment before clapping his hands together in delight, "Hey! You're wearing the stuff that I got for you!" Not only were they wearing the outfits that he'd bought while he was out with Tally but they also had their hair up using the ribbons that he'd gotten for them. They looked adorable and most importantly for the two of them they looked exactly the same! The twin seamstresses had done magnificent works it seemed... though should he be that happy about it? He was feeding their want to be exactly the same after all, meaning that he still wouldn't be able to tell the pair of them apart if they didn't want him to. It was something that was both good and bad he supposed.

Shaking his head, his smile only growing he said, "Well, while it's tough since I can't tell you apart I am still happy since you two like the stuff I got for you. I will have to bring you to meet with the twin seamstresses sometime so that we can get more stuff for you!" He told them, something that had the pair instantly squealing and bouncing in place in delight over the idea of getting even more presents from their older brother. For a moment they forgot about Kal and Tally, feeling that it was more important to learn about possible new presents instead.

Trova set to laughing as his sisters rushed him, each of them catching hold of one of his arms to hang off of, "What were you going to get us, Torva? More pretty clothing?" One of them asked followed quickly by, "Will you get us more pretty ribbons for our hair too? Please! Please!" The two of them were like starving, feral beasts when it came to pretty things Torva thought to himself, giving a bit of a chuckle before he set to spinning around in a circle, his sisters still holding on

"I could get you either of those two things! The twin seamstresses, they do the most amazing work! Not to mention that they are just like the two of you, they are twins that look almost completely alike!" He told them.

"Awww... only almost?" One of his sisters asked, both of them giving a bit of a pout at the 'almost' part, "Why don't they looked exactly alike? Both are girls though, right. You said seamstresses and that means girls, right?"

Torva didn't want to share the real reason since it was supposed to be a secret so he said, "It's mostly a business thing I think. So that their customers will be able to tell them apart. Maybe one of them does clothing better and one does hair decorations better?" He was making that bit up but one never knew, it could be the case! Not like the knew them really well save for the fact that he'd accidentally learned one of their secrets because Tally let it slip. Giving a laugh he said, "You really should see their hair! It's done up in a way that is more ornate then anything that I've ever seen before! It's like their hair is a decoration meant to make them look even more beautiful then they already are!"

That set the girls to squealing even more as they swung off of their brother's arms and one asked, "Really? Really? I want to see! I want them to do my hair in a fancy manner! Please big brother!" The other twin was quick to join in, "Me too! Me too! Please! Let's do that now! Please, Torva! You will be our very favorite brother ever if you bring us to meet them!" A claim that had Torva laughing.

"Come on you two, you have to love Tylarl too! Even if he is busy with his girlfriend of late it's only right that you give him a chance of being at least among your favorites even if I become your absolute favorite." He said in a joking manner, not really wanting anyone to them to forget about Tylarl just because of some presents that Torva spoiled them with. At the same time though it would be fun to tease Tylarl a bit about being the favorite he thought to himself for a moment before waving off the thought. Giving a smile he started to walk forward, giving a little whistle, "Svana! Come on, we are going to go and look at fancy hair and other girly things. Maybe we will get you something as well!" Something that had the grey vedra honking up a storm as she followed along after the three of them.

As they went forward toward where he'd seen the two amazing seamstresses one of the twins suddenly pipped up asking, "So! Who are Kal and Tally, Torva? Are they your girlfriends?" A comment that caused Torva to nearly trip over his own feet, something that had the girls giggling as though they had found fun new game that they just had to play at Torva's expense.

Torva lifted a hand to his mouth, giving a little cough into it, before looking over at his sisters, "They are new friends of mine that I hope will be coming to see a show soon." He really did want to see them both again! They were both a lot of fun to hang out with. They were the sort that made him giddy just thinking about them since his first meetings with them had gone so well! It went well with Tally especially but that didn't mean that the meeting with Kal was any less special in his mind. Especially with the pretty eyed boy wanting to come to a show so he could watch and then write about their troupe! Here was to hoping it help spread their reputation to all in Belrea!

"Sure... new friends. What about the whole them being 'pretty' part! Are you dating one of them?" One of the girls asked in a curious manner.

"Are you dating both of them?" The other girl asked in just as curious a voice as her twin.

The first question made Torva blush a bit, "What? No." He said, then his cheeks were burning brightly at the second one, "N-No! No, nothing like that!" He looked quite embarrassed as his sisters asked him if he was dating both Kal and Tally. That wasn't a very nice question at all and it had his cheeks burning hot and made him want nothing more then to hide his face in his hands. In fact that was exactly what he did, hiding his face, and tried to get his blushing under control.

Just the fact that he seemed to be failing to get his blush under control had the girls squealing and clapping their hands, obviously amused by their brother's reactions to what the pair were doing. They moved to flank him, hanging off of his arms once more, "So which one? Which one? Which one?" The two of them started to chant at him, trying to get answers from him about his nonexistent dating life.

He shook his head rapidly and said, "Neither of them! I just met them you little monsters." He said, waving his hands at them rapidly, "Now be nice or no presents!" He said, something that instantly made the pair of them go silent. The pair met gazes for a moment, seeming as though they were silently debating on if he was being honest or not. After a time they finally nodded their heads, hands lifting up to cover their moths, as though to say that they weren't going to push their luck any longer.

"Good! Now, come on. Let's go shopping." He said, moving forward to lead the way once more. He felt a little bad being so mean in that manner. He didn't like the idea of taking away their presents or even threatening to do so but if it meant to saving himself... well, he'd do so. Here was to hoping that they would forgive him for making such a threat. Glancing between them he said, "Once we get there you two can look around all you like and if you see something that you like just let me know! I'm not sure if they will have more identical clothing but they should at least have more accessories."

The pair of them nodded and one of them said, "I definitely want a pretty hair thing to make my hair all ornate and pretty!" She bounced in place, looking excited, before the other twin said, "Me too, me too! Let's get the prettiest hair ribbons they have, Torva! And a pretty dress!"

"Yes, yes, a dress!" The other girl said before started to excited chant 'dress, dress, dress' while bouncing around and pulling on his arms hard enough that was swaying back and forth now.

Giving a nod of his head he said, "We will see. Now, no more hanging or you're going to pop my arms off." The girls nodded, releasing their hold on him, and started to dance around at his sides, eager to get meet with the seamstresses that Torva was bringing them to meet.

A Breather

Torva was currently laying on the floor of the big tent that their shows took place in, eyes closed, with Svana using his belly as a pillow. Torva had just gotten done with a rather difficult training session with his Grandfather and now he was just... tired! The man pushed him hard but Torva knew that it was for his own good. Knowing how to do each and every trick perfectly was important, it kept everyone from being hurt. At all times Torva had to be aware of himself, the other performers, and most importantly of all the audience. As his Grandfather had said many times in the past there were many things within their control but the crowd never was.

Even if the were warned that the tricks were dangerous and everyone had to remain in their seats there was that chance that children might run around foolishly during a show. It was up to them to be careful for everyone, even if that meant cutting a possible trick short or waiting until the rowdy crowd was brought under control. Once that happened things could go on as planned. Now the biggest problem he was told, beyond even a rowdy crowd, was hecklers... but that was what their bouncers were for. They were there to toss the worst of the worst out of the show, those that wanted to ruin it for everyone else. Here was to hoping with Kal and Tally came for a show that they didn't have to deal with such things. He wanted their experiences with the show to be perfect! Not that he could guarantee that but he'd do his best where he could!

"Hey! Torva! If you're just going to be laying around doing nothing why not help out instead." The voice of his older brother drew Torva's attention and instantly he was sitting up, glancing in Tylarl's direction. The older man gave him a little wave before he said, "Come on, our parents could use help with the twins so that dad can practice and mom can work on dinner."

Giving a nod of his head Torva hopped up to his feet, stretching out all over, "Let me pick up my stuff and I will head over to get the twins. You going to be helping this time or are you going to see your girlfriend again?" A comment that brought the slightest flush to Tylarl's cheeks, "So that means you're off to do the latter then?"

His brother gave a nod and said, "I have to deliver the present that you picked up for me to her. I already have permission to head out, which is why I was seeking you out to play with the twins." He said, waving at his brother in a manner he hoped would be dismissive. It seemed that talking about things with Torva had Tylarl a bit more embarrassed at the moment. It was something that made Torva quite curious, wanting to know what his older brother was up to. He'd bother him about it later though since he knew his parents needed help at the moment.

"One of these days I will get you to reveal your secrets and introduce her to me, Tylarl." He said, starring his brother down for a moment before he moved to pick up the case that carried his dual pistols, making sure it was locked, before whistling to Svana, "Come on, girl. Let's go play with the twins." He called to her, the two of them heading in one directions while Tylarl left in the other, both of them off to do their own separate things.

Growth Solo: The New World?

(( Upon hearing about the new world the troupe that Torva is a part of starts making plans to send a possible envoy across the ocean to get a feel for the place. While it's his Aunt that might go Torva finds himself with the want to go along with her. To this point nothing has drawn his attention from his desire to become a real member of the troupe. Now he isn't so sure if his destiny lies with them or traveling across the ocean with his Aunt. ))

Torva was sitting off to the side, his twin sisters flanking him on either side, watching what was a bit of an uproar in front of him. It seemed as though they had gotten the news back from the 'new world' that was known as Tendaji and there was a lot to tell. It was hard to say what all was rumors and what was real news but it seemed as though everyone was quite excited about the idea meeting with new tribes, make friends with them, learn from them, and everyone in the group was trying to figure out exactly how Belrea might want to go about such things. Would they send more envoys when the airships became more stable? Would they invite people from Tendaji to Belrea instead? Maybe a bit of both?

"I think it would be pretty neat to visit there. I'm kinda curious what the people might look like." Torva said to the twins as nobody else was close enough to hear him. Being just a prentice he was allowed to watch the goings on but he wasn't invited to weigh in quite yet. Another reason for him to get to a point where the troupe saw his opinion as one that was worth considering when it came to all matters, not just important ones like this.

The twins looked up at Torva, then forward again, one of them saying, "If you go to Tendaji then who's going to play with us and get us presents?" She gave a bit of a pout over the idea that Torva might bail on them and no longer get them things from the twin seamstresses that he brought them to meet recently.

The other girl leaned against Torva and said, "Yeah, you should just stick around with us and never get married, Torva! Tylarl has been soooo boring since he got a girlfriend! You should just stay here with us instead!" Something that got the pair happily chanting the words 'stay with us, stay with us' in a manner that had Torva sighing a bit. As much as he loved his family he was listening to the words of those in the group before him and he found himself rather curious. What if he went to the new world as an envoy with those from the group that were chosen? Wouldn't that allow for them to meet with the entertainers from Tendaji? Wouldn't that allow them to work together and become even better at their jobs?

That seemed to be what some from the group were suggesting and it was... well, an exciting prospect. Not just because he wanted to go to help the troupe but because he found he wanted to go in general. It was a rather strange feeling for Torva as to this point he really found nothing at all that was worth being lead astray from the troupe. He wasn't like Tylarl, he didn't have a girlfriend that distracted him during all of his downtime. He had friends, sure, but it was nothing like what Tylarl had. Did he want to be so distracted as Tylarl was though? It was kind of hard to say really. The idea of going to the 'new world' sounded like it would be a great amount of fun, as well as a learning opportunity... but at the same time that meant leaving his family behind for an unknown amount of time and the idea of doing that was a bit intimidating.

That was of course provided that an entertainer like himself would even be able to get one of the first seats on an airship over to Tendaji. Wouldn't they instead want to send over people that were more qualified? The intellectual types like Kal, perhaps? Those who could write all manner of interesting stories about what they saw in the new world to bring back to those of Belrea? He found himself wondering for a moment if he should ask Kal to come with him because it might get them over easier... but that seemed too self serving. Besides, Kal was working so hard to become a great reporter. It would be mean of him to try to drag him away from his dream because of Torva's creeping curiosity. He found himself wondering if he should ask Tally along instead?

As one of his Aunts suddenly spoke up about being the one to go to the new world he scrambled up to his feet, leaning forward to hear the decision made by his Grandfather. Much to his surprise the man seemed ready to let her go but he wanted to look into some things first. It seemed he wouldn't just let a member of the family leave without knowing that their trip across the ocean would be a safe one. Did that mean that he would have a chance to talk to his Aunt? To see if he could tag along? Provided of course that Grandfather allowed it. He knew that if the man said 'no' that he wouldn't have much of a chance of tagging along. If he said no his Aunt would for sure say no as well. He'd have to go about this carefully if he wanted to go along.

The time it took his Grandfather to figure things out for his Aunt would actually help him to figure out if he really wanted to go himself as well. While there were a lot of pros to go to the new world there were also a lot of cons as well. He had to be absolutely certain that this was what he wanted because if he went he would be there for some time. Going meant being without his family, without his friends, and being all on his own save for his Aunt, in a new world, where he was a stranger. It was a bit on the scary side but he still kinda wanted to go.

Sitting back again he decided that he would talk to his Aunt first, to see if she would even let him go with her in the first place, then he'd consider talking to Grandfather next. There was a lot that had to be done first for Torva just as it had to be done first for his Aunt. Giving his sisters a smile he said, "Well, I will stick around for now. It doesn't seem like Grandfather is letting anyone go yet anyway." No reason to do anything that might cause them to throw a fit when nothing was decided as of yet. Actually little to nothing was, so no reason at all.

Before them the gathering was starting to disperse now that their Grandfather had given his verdict on the matter. It was all wait and see now, with everyone having to wait to hear back about the new that the leader of their group gathered. After that things would really start rolling. It wouldn't be too long before he found out how he'd be spending the next part of his life and he was... exhilarated to say the least. Though he did his best to hide it for now so as not to let his sisters in on his thoughts.

Returning with Cake!

It was almost the moment that Torva returned home with the trio of cakes that he'd picked up that he was nearly tackled by a pair of girls, that being his twin sisters Kinna and Ketra. He gave a squeaking sound, fumbled, but was able to catch the bag he was carrying as they crashed into him. Giving a sighing sound he looked down at the pair of them before he said, "You know... you almost killed the cakes that I brought back with me, you two." He shifted them to one hand before lifting the other one and petted them both on their heads one after the other.

The two of them took a single step back, starring at him, and then turned their attention to the bag that he was carrying, "You were able to get one of them?" One of the two girls asked, moving forward and jumped at the bag in an attempt to get it from Torva.

The orange haired Torva twirled around, holding the bag just out of reach, before grinning, "Actually I was able to get three of them." He dodged once more as the two made another lunge at the bag. He then reached into the bag and got out one of the cakes, handing it over to them, "The two of you little monsters can have this one. I am going to bring the other two to some of the others." They deserved one cake since they were the ones that had sent him after the treats.

Kinna reached out to take the offered cake before turning to her twin sister, the two of them squealing in excitement over getting to have the cake to themselves. The two of them were quick to rush off, knowing if they ducked off into their own space to eat the cake. He watched them go before he lifted a hand, waving after them, before he turned his attention to Svana and Eayolin, "Alright, beasts, time to go and drop the other two cakes off with the others." He said, getting enthusiastic responses from the creatures before he walked further into the tent that the members of the troupe stayed in.

In a moment his pets rush off, over to where some of the youngest members of the troupe were playing, likely off to get treats from them. He shook his head at them, "Little traitors." He murmured before continued forward, eyes scanning the crowd, before he spotted his mother. He gave a smile as he saw her, hurrying over to where she sat on a large pillow on the floor with some of the other women of the troupe. He leaned over, kissing her on the cheek, "Hello Mother, I brought something back for you. Since you're all gathered you can share it." He said, taking it out for them, setting it on the small table they were sitting around, "Would you like me to make you some tea to go with it?"

Serfie gave a smile, lifting a hand to ruffle his hair before she said, "Tea would be wonderful, Torva. The kettle should be near to the fire if you would like to put it on? I will take care of things after that."

Giving a nod of his head he gave a wave to the others, "Aunties." He gave a smile, a wave, and then turned to head off to where the fire was. He filled it up with some purified water and then hung it over the fire. Once that was done he then looked at where the children were all playing, walking over to them, and said, "Hey kiddos, I brought some cake." It was something that instantly had them swarming around him, asking him all manner of cake based questions, something that had him laughing a bit.

"It's a special chocolate cake that I got from a place in town. It looks really good so I'm sure you guys will enjoy it. If you sit down I can cut a little piece for each of you." Something that had the group of children squealing in delight before they rushed off to do just that. He smiled a bit before following after them, setting to work cutting up the cake into enough pieces that he could give one of them to each of the children. Giving a sigh of relief when it was done he then carried the now empty bag over, tossing into a basket with some other bags knowing that it could and would be reused later.

Once everything was over and done with he gave another sigh, looking around for a place where he could sit down as well. Before he was able to do so though he heard the screaming of a the tea kettle, something that had him trotting back across the tent again. Once he arrived he called out, "Don't worry, Mother! I've got it!" She seemed to be busy with the others and he wasn't doing anything quite yet so there was no reason for him to do anything but help her out. Once he got to the kettle he got on a glove so he could take it off the fire. He set it down and then set to work getting cups out, added the leaves, and poured the hot water over them.

Everything was put on a tray and he carried it over to set it down on the table as well, "Here you go." He set to handing out the cups one by one to each of the women before he took the final cup for himself, snapped his fingers to summon a tiny cube of ice, and added it to his cup to help cool it off. After he was sure it was cooled enough he took a sip from it, finding that he rather liked this particular blend of leaves. He'd have to make sure to get another tin or two of them from the seller before the troupe moved on to the next town.

"Torva." His mother called out his name to get his attention before holding a piece of cake out of him, "Take it. I know you gave out all of the last one to the children and we had extra." Once he took it she gave him a smile before turning back to her tea and the conversation.

He took another sip from his cup, one bite from the cake, and then turned as he heard his father calling his name. He gave a laugh and said, "Seems everyone is wanting my attention." Turning on his heel he hurried over to where the man was standing, giving a bit of a squeak as the man scooped up the fork sitting on his plate, stealing a bite of the cake, before he pointed it in the direction of where his grandfather was sitting, "The old man is looking for you." He told him, taking another bite, and then gave the fork back.

Torva stuck his tongue out at the man before hurrying along to the final person that was wanting his attention. He went over to where the man was sitting, sitting down carefully next to him, and rested his cake plate on his knee, "Did you want a bite too?" He asked, offering some to the old man who shook his head, something that had him sighing in relief since it meant he got at least a few bites of the cake that wouldn't be pilfered by one family member or another. As he ate his cake and drank his tea his grandfather set to explaining the next step in his training, about where they were thinking on going next, and various other show business. There was a lot to do coming up, though there always was when it was time to pack up and get moving.

"Just let me know when we are heading out and I will be sure to be present to help. I might even be able to get a friend of mine to help out." He said once he finished off his cake, "As for training are we going to do that now or later?" He was watching his grandfather with wide, excitement filled eyes. There was nothing better then when he could actually get one on one time with his grandfather. The man was always so busy since he was in charge of everything meaning that everyone in the troupe wanted his attention at all times of day and night. That he might actually get time with him today outside of his conversation, just the two of them, it was something that excited him like nothing else.

"We can start once you drop off those dishes and get your guns." A comment that had Torva nodding his head before he hopped up to his feet and hurried off. The man watched him go, muttering something about wishing he still had that sort of energy at his old age. With that he got to his feet, heading in the other direction, wanting to get prepared for afternoon training with his grandson.
