Torva was standing up on a small wall in a park within the city, working on some juggling practice, entertaining those who were nearby who wanted to watch him as he did so. Today he had a couple of little girls helping him out named Kinna and Ketra, their main roles presently being to gather any of the balls that he dropped and tossing them back to him. On top of that he would occasionally need them to toss him some extra ones. He was doing pretty well at keeping five in the air at once but any more then that and he started to falter a little bit, that was why the twins were helping him out at the moment.

"Brother! Brother! Catch!" One of the two identical girls called out, getting Torva's attention so that he could toss him another ball. Torva faltered for a moment but was able to keep them all aloft, though barely.

Once he'd regained tenuous control over what he was juggling he said, "Ahhh... Thank you, K!" He said, cheating his way out of calling out a particular name since the girls were doing their best to trick him today. If he didn't commit to a name then they could call him on failing at guess who was who. Yet.

It was a slow day for Kalanc. Nothing was happening that made him really want to write articles about. Father didn't need any help in the shop today since he was taking a half-day. Which meant the hybrid was free to do what he pleased, and that meant wandering rather aimlessly about.

Bright red hair fell into one of his eyes, and yet it didn't seem to bother him as he rounded the corner into the park. Almost immediately he heard a family playing. Glancing around he spotted the Lightening family (he assumed from the 'Brother' comment anyway).

Juggling! The Prentice stopped and watched, laughing a little at the antics.

They seemed eager to help and at the same time... if he were them he'd try to sabotage the juggler into spilling the balls. Not everyone was as playful as that, though.

"You're doing wonderful!" The hybrid commented, his voice a bit airy for someone his age. "How long can you keep going?"

Kinna and Ketra whirled around instantly as someone spoke up behind them, the two girls waving in sync with one another while Torva gave their 'guest' a smile, "I thank you!" He said, wanting nothing more then to give him a wave but given that his hands were full the smile would have to be enough for now. Thinking on it he said, "Depends on how many I am juggling at once. A ton of them look great but it's a lot more difficult... as these two little monsters well know."

The twins set to giggling at the comment, turning back to their brother and in sync they each tossed a ball up to him. That set Torva to scrambling and the twins to laughing, especially when the addition of the two extra balls became a bit too much for him, causing him to loose a few. The little girls went racing after the dropped balls while Torva did his best to get back into the rhythm of juggling what he still had remaining.

"Don't wander too far!" He called out after the twins before he looked back to their guest, "Now with this many I can go on forever!" He boasted, hoping to make up for his earlier mistake with renewed confidence.

The hybrid watched the antics yet again, and he was left basically a laughing mess. One gloved hand came to push his bangs out of his eyes to fully look at the other. He shook his head and then sighed. "Quite the sisters you have there! Seems like they really want you to practice a lot with their help." He bit down on his full bottom lip and just grinned. The twinkle in his eye was a bit playful.

"Forever's an awful long time.. You know." He put his hands behind his back. "How are you supposed to shake hands with a new friend? I'm Kalanc. I work in the old book repair shop."

Torva glanced after his sisters before giving a nod of his head, "Yeah... they are the most helpful pair that you will ever meet!" He said with a laugh, leaving out the part in which they spent their time trying to mix people up about which of them was which. He was their big brother but even he struggled with it... and it didn't help that their mother helped them out by letting them wear the same thing and do their hair in the same way. If they kept it up though it would make their own work in the troupe more interesting though.

"Yeah, it is a while but I really do need the practice." He said, giving a humming sound when the other proposed to him the question about shaking hands. Hopping down from the wall he was on carefully, able to keep the balls in the air though barely, he allowed some to drop leaving him with just three in the air. From there he shifted them so he was juggling them with one hand and held a hand out to the one called Kalanc, "It's nice to meet you Kalanc, I'm Torva!"

When the juggling boy got off the wall like he did, and stuck out his hand, Kalanc had to color himself impressed. He gripped the other's hand and shook it quite firmly before he just grinned. He'd never seen anyone quite so talented with juggling balls like that. One handed? He felt like he should dole out coin for him.

He took his hand back and dug his hands into his pockets and pulled out two coins. With a wink he held it out to Torva. "Here you go, for your constant entertainment. Perhaps it should be three. One for each of you." Kalanc was talking about the two little twin sisters. A laugh bubbled up again and he just shrugged a little more. "Is this what you do all the time? Just come out here and play with them by juggling and practicing?"

Torva couldn't help but to grin as the other took his hand, shaking it. That he was able to continue to juggle the trio of balls while shaking hands delighted him. He wasn't positive that he could do it but pulling it off was a grand thing! He wanted nothing more then to tell his parents since they would be proud of his accomplishment. Stepping back after Kalanc released him he caught the trio of balls, tossing them to his sisters who had the rest of them gathered up, "Thank you, you two." He said with a smile before turning back to Kalanc once more.

"Huh?" He was being offered coins in exchange for his hard tricks? Giving a rather happy sound he took them, holding them up for the twins to see, "Check it out! We got a tip!" Not something that he'd gotten during practice before so he had to admit that it was something he was very pleased with. Yet another thing that he was going to have to report home since he was quite proud of his moment.

After pocket the coins he said, "Naw! Not all the time. Our parents are busy today with their own training so I figured I'd bring the girls to the park to play. Juggling is just something that I want to practice! Other tricks I am a bit better at but juggling can get complicated."

"Especially if you're our dad!" The twins chimed in helpfully.

Kalanc was delighted that Torva could do this one handed. it was an amazing thing to watch. The hybrid vaguely wondered if there was some kind of story here. He could write up an article and get it printed! Like his parents.

He watched as his sisters gathered the rest of the juggling balls and then the reactions to getting paid for entertainment. "It's a normal thing to do, isn't it? I mean..." He rubbed the back of his neck, poking one of the dots he knew was there and just grinned a little more.

"So what else can you do, if you're only practicing juggling?" For someone just practicing, Kalanc thought it was pretty spectacular. Not that there were a lot of people doing it, but when he was a lad he tried, and it was so hard. He had given up after two days, like typical kids do when they're experimenting with things to have fun. Writing was something that stuck, though.

"Oooh? Maybe I'd like to meet him one day. See what he can do."

A family story! People loved those. Ah, he could feel the need to take notes causing his fingers to itch and twitch at his sides.

Torva nodded his head rapidly, "Yeah, yeah... it's normal but since I am still a prentice I don't get to join the shows yet. I'm still in training after all! I need to hone my skills a bit more before I am able to join the others who are already entertaining the masses." He was really looking forward to when he would be able to join in but until then just being able to entertain passersby like Kalanc was enough for him. Soon though! Soon he would be doing incredible feats like this his grandfather was able to do! Or at least that was the plan.

"Acrobatics!" He said, clapping his hands together before he did a back flip, landing easily on his feet, then bent over backwards into an arch before standing up on his hands, "Like so! Among other things... though I think walking around on my hands might be one of my favorite things to do. It always tends to draw a lot of eyes since it's not the typical way one walks around town." He gave a little laugh as he walked around for a moment on his hands before letting his feet fall back to the ground so that he could stand up right once more.

Once he was back up right he brushed his hands off, giving a smile as he and his sisters all at once said, "He juggles knives!" It was rather amazing to them and it wasn't just knives but all manner of dangerous, pointy things! Knives were just his specialty.

Kalanc listened to all this, watched the other turn into jelly and then just shook his head. It might be way too much for him to take in by just listening and seeing small examples, but maybe if he went and saw a kind of performance he would understand everything better. It sounded fun. The hybrid honestly didn't get out of the office much, so he hadn't seen many people do these kinds of things.

"Wait." He paused hard, stared at the other and then squinted. "Knives?! That's so dangerous! What the heck?" Kalanc's eyes were wide and he was almost a bit slack-jawed.

"I mean, don't get me wrong, that was so fun to watch, you doing the bendy things and walking on your hands. But. ... Knives?" He whistled slowly and put his hands on his hips. "I'd love to see that."

Torva couldn't help but to laugh, finding the reaction to be kind of funny. Maybe it was because they were so used to such things it that something like juggling knives was normal to them? Giving a smile he said, "Yeah, he's currently practicing a new act with mother that should be quite amazing once it's done! We are all quite excited to see it!" He said, clapping his hands together in an excited manner, ever eager to see what the two of them were planning during their down time.

"Oh! Don't worry, he practices a lot. Like hours a day! He'd never put mother or anyone else in the troupe in danger or anything." He said, lifting up his arms, tapping them together in a manner that made an X shape. He knew that his father was very studious and would never try out an act he wasn't certain that he could handle. Best to reassure Kalanc... though upon him saying that he wanted to see he gave a smile, nodding his head, "Alright! You should come see a one of the group's shows for sure!"

"Yeah, yeah! You should watch the bit where dad throws knives at apples balanced on mom's head!" One of the twins said, while the other nodded rapidly.

Torva looked over at them then said, "Don't go trying to scare him off, K, we want him to come watch the show." Looking over at Kalanc he said, "You should just come and see!"

It still was a terrifying thought to him, juggling something that dangerous. And as the talk turned to throwing knives, Kalanc shivered and just rubbed at his face, looking a little pale. That was something he didn't want to see. He probably should though, because it sounded like it could be good news. News wasn't always fluff pieces - sometimes it was scary, sometimes depressing. He had to get used to that, wouldn't he? He rubbed at the marking on the back of his neck again and just gave a little noise.

"Uuuuh... One day I'll see it," he said, honestly. Kalanc had to actually muster up the courage to see it. "I want to, I mean, I really do, I just ...have to work up some courage. I'm ...not great when it comes to high risk situations like that.." Or the sight of blood, but whatever.

Torva gave a smile, "Good! Maybe you will come in time to see the new act that they are working on!" He clapped his hands together and gave a nod of his head, "Once it's ready I can send you an invitation if you like! Though I would need to know where to send it..." Something that hadn't quite thought of ahead of time when he made the offer. It wasn't as though he actually knew where Kalanc lived or anything given that they'd just met.

The twins came to stand on either side of Torva, seeming to be studying him, before they one of them said, "You know you might be able to see Torva's act soon too!"

"Yeah, you should definitely come watch that! He's gonna do trick shooting like our grandfather!" The other girl said, both of them catching hold of his hands so that they could tug on them in excitement. The idea of seeing Torva in action, trying to do what their grandfather did, was something the girls were eager to see.

After glancing between them Torva gave a laugh, "Yeah, I might be ready at some point... though I need months of practice more before I am allowed to have a real gun. They are dangerous after all since they fired concentrated bursts of magic and need to be respected." His grandfather's words, not his own.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 06, 2017 1:36 pm

Kalanc rattled off the address to the book repair shop, saying he lived just above that in an apartment with his dad.

"...Wait. What's trick shooting?"

His eyes went from the twins, back to Torva for an answer. "...Whoa. Hang on just a second, trick shooting involves a real gun? I'm not sure.. I can stomach something like that." If other people were involved, he would definitely not be watching. Knives were dangerous, but buns were more dangerous.

Oddly enough, Kalanc was feeling like a bit of a chicken compared to the others here. Just a plain Jane who thinks the most exciting thing to do is climb a tree and dive into a late that was deep enough he didn't have to worry about getting hurt. Who knew he was such a worry wart? A dark hand pushed his bangs out of his face, exposing both eyes and just looked at the three. What an odd little family.

Torva held up his hands in gun shapes and aimed them at a fictional target before he said, "Trick shooting involves shooting at various targets focusing on a mix of speed and precision. At least that is the very basics of it." He gave a smile then blinked a couple times, "Huh? Oh! Well you needn't worry. I am not allowed to shoot at anything more then targets at the moment so there is nothing really to worry about... umm... 'stomaching' since it's just magical shots hitting various sorts of targets."

Was that reassuring? He wasn't really certain... giving a smile he said, "Let's see... imagine shooting at an icy or watery target with a fire shot. It explodes into steam and sometimes even makes a rainbow if done right!" He clapped his hands together then nodded, "It's a lot more flash then actual danger as far as what I do goes. I want to push the limits of my skills one day though." To be as good as his grandfather or better was his goal though at the moment he didn't even have guns of his own yet.

"Will you still come to the show?" All three of the siblings seemed ask at once, all of their eyes on Kalanc now.
