Nightpaw purred as Leafpaw licked his shoulder, grateful that she seemed to be coming back around. He nodded in agreement that they would be two of them would be unstoppable. He certainly hoped he would be, though he was starting to thing a grown spurt would be helpful in making that a reality.

"Cats who are stubborn like that don't make it far. He probably wont even be leader by the time we're made warriors. Even the rest of DawnClan is gonna learn to hate him." Nightpaw mewed, tilting his head slightly at Leafpaw's odd reaction to the cat. He supposed they had to have been close in some way, though Nightpaw didn't know that whole story, Had she said he used to be her mentor, or something? That could be it. Regardless, he could remember a few too many stories where a cat that didn't bend at all would loose everything when the time was right. He figured the same would have to hold for Stormstar, no matter how strong he was.

"I really don't get his attitude. I mean as long as a cat learns the warrior code and obeys it, they're really a clan cat, aren't they?" His confusion was probably partly rooted in his own coming to FloodClan. Sunshade hadn't had any complaints about having a former-kittypet apprentice, and the warrior code was pretty easy to follow? Shouldn't any cat who could do those basic hings be fine?

"Yeah I guess I can see where he'd be cranky that you, Skychase, and Ripplepool left. Maybe wen you do see him, if you explain you're happy here, he wont be so mad? And if it's at a gathering, at least a bunch of us we'll be there to back you up!" Nightpaw replied to Rosepaw. He didn't catch her slip, but he did wonder why Foxstar being angry mattered so much. Unless he was another cat like Stormstar? He hadn't heard anything like that from the other DuskClan cats...

"Hi Ghost! Hi Spirit! I'm Nightpaw!" He mewed in greeting as the two younger rogues joined them, moving closer to Leafpaw to give them more room.

--~--

Lynxstar nodded as Sunshade agreed with all of his choices. Admittedly, it was comforting to be validated. He hoped Sunshade wasn't just agreeing because of what had just transpired. "I think she's earned it, and I'd like her to see a gathering before she becomes a warrior. It's a fundamental part of clan life."

"Foxstar and Owlflight have always hit me as reasonable cats. I would like to think that they would believe us if StarClan does not show a sign..." Lynxstar sighed, once again pondering how much of a nightmare the evening could be. "I like that plan as a precaution, though. If you'll help Moonpool, between Ripplepool and myself we can make sure the apprentices get across."

Noting the anger, but lack of outright aggression from Artemis, Lynxstar dipped his head respectfully. He couldn't be upset with her; this was her land first, and she did have just as much at stake as FloodClan did. "We don't anticipate the attack here - No one knows where we're staying. We do, however, have concerns that we will be attacked at our gathering tonight, and were planning on how to keep any potential cats with ill-will away from here. I promise, Artemis, if I have any concerns we will be attacked here, you will be the first cat to know about it. I can also promise you this though, if any cat were to come here with the intent to harm any cat in these nests, myself and my warriors would all fight tooth and nail to protect all of us." Lynxstar finished, meeting the she-cat's gaze. He kept his fur flat and his shoulders level. He wanted her to know, from the bottom of his heart, that he meant his words. She had done him a great favor by letting FloodClan build their strength here; he was not about to return that by willingly getting any of her family hurt.

--~--

"It is. And at least here, the prey will probably keep running through leaf-bare. Which is good, considering that there will be two litters of kits bounding around camp." Skychase mewed.

"I think Moonpool is getting a handle on things faster then the rest of us. I'm glad you're around so much to help her though."

"They're not the worst thing I've seen. The weird moss on the floor keeps getting stuck in my claws though..." Skychase grumbled in regards to the nest.

"I was going to have myself and Rosepaw help with getting more dens put up tomorrow. It'll be good experience for her, and with the weather getting cooler I think we're all going to want to share the nursery if we don't." Ripplepool purred in amusement.

--~--

"You have a point there. At least I wont have to worry about keeping any of the kit-weight on - I'll be chasing them all day!" Cloverstream purred in amusement, holding still while Moonpool examined her. Each move was so gentle - sometimes she was amazed at how much control the medicine cat held over her own frame, even without being able to see what she was doing. "They day that tom lets me go hungry is the day I will be dragging him to you, Moonpool. I'm good though, thank you for asking." She looked over at Blossom and nodded, "Apollo is a wise tom indeed, then."

"Thank you, Moonpool. I'm glad to hear that. And I'm sorry in advance for how often they'll probably tread on your tail." Cloverstream mewed in reply, once again turning to Blossom. "How are Ghost and Spirit handling everything? Are they excited to have more siblings running around soon?" She inquired.

--~--

When he finished with Artemis, he bowed his head respectfully and removed himself from the conversation. He padded back in the two-leg nest, signaling for Sunshade to follow. Inside, he found a ledge, protruding in front of an opening, covered in a clear ice-like substance. For now, it worked well enough as a spot to call for gatherings.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here for a clan meeting!" He called, waiting patiently as the cats gathered around. Even Cloverstream left the nursery, sitting near there to watch the proceedings.

"You have all been working incredibly hard, and I want to thank you for your service to this clan. StarClan has already blessed us with so many industrious, talented, and intelligent cats from all backgrounds. I wish I could take you all with me to the Gathering tonight, but you know what we're up against. Know that if I leave you behind, it is because I trust you to keep this camp safe while we're gone.

But before I announce who will be coming with me, I have something important to do. Something that has been too long in coming. It's time for our first ceremony as a clan. I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of FloodClan is Sunshade."
Lynxstar announced, swelling with pride as he heard his clanmates call out Sunshade's name. He gave them a moment to settle down before continuing.

"I know you will make FloodClan proud." He spoke, more directly to Sunshade, then returned his attention back to his clan, "Now, for the gathering, I will be taking Sunshade, Moonpool, Dreampaw, Ripplepool, Leafpaw, Nightpaw, and Rosepaw. However, to air on the side of caution, we will be laying a false scent trail to keep any cats from following us on the way back, so we need to leave now. Get ready, and meet me outside as soon as possible." With that, Lynxstar jumped down from the ledge and padded for the doorway, waiting for his chosen cats to follow.

Moonpool couldn't help the delighted purr at the queen's words.
"An upside then." she teased. Honestly she couldn't wait for Cloverstream to have her kits. As much as they could make life...difficult for the blind she cat kits always held a large soft spot for her. she glanced up , her unseeing eyes willd with humor as the queen described handing over her mate "He better watch out then, I have been known to be quite dangerous " She mewed, smirking

The medicine cat shook her head at the attempted apology. "Don't you fret. A kit treading on my tail will be a welcome change to my own clumsy foot" she mewed with a laugh.

When the blind cat heard the call to meet she turned towards the chatting queens, planning on asking one of them to help her over but before she could even get the words out Sharptalon's scent washed over her and his tail gently touched her shoulder. Purring at the tom she followed him to the gathering area and listening to Lynxstar's speech. She was pleased he decided to announce his deputy finally. Sunshade would make a fine support for him and she cheered loudly for the other Tom. She was a bit disappointed that sharptalon was not going to be going to the gathering but knew Lynxstar would have made accommodations for her. Still the Tom next to her felt tense and she couldn't help purring in amusement.

Sharptalon nodded at Skychase's comment on the prey "Agreed, it is good we have so many cats but I will be honest, before I knew about all the prey I was worried floodclan wouldn't last, especially with the other rogues here as well." He mewed

He purred and nodded at Ripplepool's statment about Moonpool. The she cat was finally starting to find her way. He didn't mind the extra time with her though if he were being honest

He couldn't help but purr at Skychases displeasure. Swallowing the last of his prey he mewed "Just make sure to sheath your claws before you walk on them. It's not like moss, it wants to catch and stay." He claned off his muzzle as Ripplepool talked about his plans for rosepaw and offered "If you would like some help with that tomorrow I would be happy to lend a paw if I'm not on a patrol."

Out of the corner of his eye he saw Lynxstar leave his small group and head to get ready to call the meeting. Excusing himself he headed over to where the queens were laying. Gathering Moonpool and leading her to listen. He wasn't thrilled he wouldn't be going. He couldn't protect the blind she-cat if he wasn't there. But he trusted his leader and if Lynxstar thought it better that he was here then here he would stay. He led her over to the leader and deputy so one of them could take over and lead her to the gathering

Owlpaw nodded at Nightpaw's words. "Well that's what I think? If you follow the warrior code, respect starclan and protect your clan...that's what being a real clan cat is all about" she mewed shrugging and finishing the last of her prey

Owlpaw winced at Rosepaw's hesitation, sympathizing with the she cat. She glanced over at Nightpaw, flicking her tail as he tried to reassure his denmate. He obviously didn't know about the pair's relationship and it wasn't her place to tell another cat's business so she just kept her mouth shut giving Rosepaw an encouraging look before beginning to groom.

Hawkpaw followed his sister's lead and stayed quiet. He wasn't sure how to reassure the other apprentice that the leader of the clan she deserted, who was also her brother, wouldn't hate her for leaving. Luckily the awkward momment was interrupted when the two rogue cats came over. "Hello, I am Hawkpaw and this is Owlpaw" he mewed, flicking his tail in greeting "It's nice to finally meet you both. You know my sister and I used to be rogues too. We like this better though. Are you all going to join our clan as well?" he asked, tilting his head to the side curiously while Owlpaw glared at him

Rosepaw ducked her head at Nightpaw's encouragement. She forgot sometimes that he was a rogue and not just another Dawnclan cat. Granted that was one of the reasons she liked hanging out with him so much. He never compared her to her siblings because he had literally no idea. "Maybe...we'll see. Honestly I just hope I don't get sent....but If I do I guess I will just stay out of sight"

When the rogues came over she nodded and introduced herself as well. They were interesting and she was eager to hear their story but soon after Lynxsta called the meeting. She headed over to listen with the rest of the cats. Eagerly cheering when Sunshade was made Deputy. He was a hard worker and very loyal, he would make a good deputy. She winced and ducked down when she was chosen to go to the gathering though.

As everyone was preparing to leave she headed over to her mentor, anxiety showing in her puffed up fur and rolled back ears. "Ripplepool. I don't want to go to the gathering tonight. Foxstar is going to be there! He is going to hate me! What if he sees me and makes me go back. I don't want to leave, floodclan is my home now. I don't want to leave you and Skychase" Fearscent rolled off the Apprentice in waves as she stood in front of her mentor and his brother shaking

Artemis noted Lynxstars respectful attitude and relaxed a bit. She was prepared for the other tom to be combative or angry. She was glad o see she had been worried for nothing. She listened to his explanation patiently with perked ears. It wasn't what she was expecting and she couldn't lie and say she wasn't a tad upset. But it was obvious Lyxstar was doing his best. He seemed to have a lot of difficulties ahead of him. She couldn't say she was jealous of his position. However he was still trying to be considerate to a group of cats he honestly could have probably chased off if he really put his whole clan into it.By the end of his explination almost all of the tention had left Artemis's body and she nodded her head in understanding "Thank you Lynxstar. It is a relief to hear that. I am sorry you are expecting trouble at your gathering tonight. I hope it does not come to blood being drawn. However if the worst happens and these cats that worry you end up coming here my family and I will fight along side yours to keep them out. We may not be as well trained but we have plenty of experience." she promised.

She tipped her head as Lynxstar and Sunshade walked away watching the leader go and call his clan for a meeting. Artemis made her way off to the side. Not a part of the group but listening to the tom's words. It was an interesting dynamic this clan had. She was curious but still wary as she watched the group follow after their leader. She stayed off to the side, noting Ghost and Spirit were talking to a group of young cats and wanting to give them another minute before she collected them and Blossom.

It seems your Lynxstar is doing alright for a first time father though." she teased, flicking the other queen with her tail "Seems very doting, you got a good one."

At the mention of her other kits Blossom sighed and her eyes went to where they were sitting with the other cats their age "Spirit and Ghost....they are handling it fine. Those two..it's like they are their own clan inside of our little group. As long as they have each other nothing really gets to them." Honestly Blossom was a little sad. She had wished her Kits would be a little more excited at the prospect of having some more siblings but they seemed to not care much

When the other cats were called away the white she-cat thought maybe this was the end of it but Ghost just followed the group as they headed over.

We are old enough to catch our own prey, proved it today". he purred in amusement as Spirit just rolled her eyes and followed him. He listened to Lynxstar with rapt attention. It seemed that all was not well between all the other clans. Artemis hadn't been telling them much about what was going on which was part of the reason Ghost had come over to talk to the other apprentices. He wanted information and figured the chatty cats were the perfect way to get it

Skychase and Ripplepool glanced between each other, neither quite sure how to handle Rosepaw while she was so distressed. After a moment, Ripplepool recovered somewhat, putting his tail across her shoulders.

"Hey, he could never hate you. He might be a little angry, but it's more going to be because he's probably been worried than because he's mad at you." Ripplepool mewed softly.

"And he can't make you do anything you don't want to, Rosepaw. You're your own cat. If you want to stay here, Lynxstar and Ripplepool will be there to make sure you can." Skychase added, managing to keep his tone level. Seeing Rosepaw so distressed was breaking his heart, especially knowing it was his fault in the first place. But they were here now.

"Just stay near me, okay? He wont start anything serious the night of the gathering. You trust me to bring you right back to camp when the gathering is over, right?" Ripplepool gave her a nuzzle on the cheek.

"Besides, someone has to help Lynxstar look serious, and you know your mentor is no good for that." Skychase finished with a mischevious glint in his eyes. Ripplepool cuffed him in the ear, earning mrrow of laughter from the darker tom. "Get going, and if Foxstar tries to keep you, we'll just stage a break out." Skychase promised.

((I figured I would just reply to Rosepaw real quick since it seemed kind of important and the other convos were pretty much done.))

Padding back into the abandoned two-leg den, Nightpaw found himself more tired than he thought a cat could be. Once he was inside the den, it was like all the energy had been drained from his frame. Dragging his paws, he flopped into his nest, curling into a tight ball and wrapping his tail around himself right to his nose. He could vaguely hear Hawkpaw and Owlpaw trying to ask him about the gathering, but he ignored them in hopes of them somehow believing he had really fallen asleep that quickly. Whether they did or not, he was at least left alone.

--~--

Skychase had been sitting vigil, and mewed a greeting as the cats from the gathering returned. Looking at their faces, he realized the gathering had not gone well. He scanned over the cats, intending to ask Ripplepool what had happened, when he realized his brother and Lynxstar hadn't returned. Moonpool was there, heading straight for her den. Dreampaw was present. Rosepaw. Sunshade...

His heart dropped onto the floor, any questions he might have been able to ask dying in his throat. Mouth opened slightly, he scanned the cats who had come home more carefully, looking for any signs of battle in them, fearing the worst. Thankfully, Rosepaw seemed to catch that the moment was on the verge of making StarClan claim him, and she padded up to explain the news.

"Ripplepool and Lynxstar are okay, they just went to go look for Leafpaw. She ran off while we were walking back." Skychase felt his heart resume its place in his chest, though the ache from his moment of panic remained. He laid down again, with Rosepaw lying next to him, pressed against his side. She explained what had happened in more detail in hushed tones, finishing just as a soaked through Lynxstar and Ripplepool returned from their search, with no apprentice in tow.

--~--

Flopping down next to his apprentice and brother was one of the better feelings he had that night. Seeing that at least they were both safe warmed something in the depths of his chest, even as he started to shiver with the chill of the rain in his coat. Skychase had some pity on him and began to help him groom the water out of his fur. Ripplepool purred a little in response to his brother's quiet scolding between licks, falling asleep to the sound of his voice and the rain pattering outside.

--~--

Lynxstar shook out his pelt as much as he could in the entrance of the den, doing his best to not bring the wet in with him. It did little to help, his coat still clinging to him. He moved over toward Sunshade, though he was courteous enough to sit a tail-length away.

"We didn't find her. It was too dark, and the garlic scent was too thick coming off the both of us. We'll never find a trail in the morning. Lynxstar mewed softly, shoulders sagging with the weight of his failure. One apprentice. He couldn't keep track of one apprentice. And to add insult to injury, it was his own. "I still want to try, though. Let's send Skychase to search in the morning, since if they get caught near the border, there will be less of a personal issue with them and DawnClan. We can have Sharptalon take Rosepaw for hunting. As much as I hate to do it, we'll keep Hawkpaw and Owlpaw in camp... If Leafpaw gets caught... Or worse, if she was here for your brother's sake all along... We'll need to be ready for an attack. I just wish we had the cats for it. And we'll need to send Ripplepool to warn Artemis to stay away for a while... I'll address the clan in the morning in regards to the gathering. I don't want to wake anyone over bad news, and I need time to think on what I am going to say." He finished, finally, waiting so see what Sunshade had to say.

When he finished with his deputy, he padded off to the nursery, glancing in just to see Cloverstream curled up, nose hidden in her tail. Part of him longed to just lie with her and bask in her warmth. The other part of him knew if he woke her up by lying with her with his pelt soaked, he probably wouldn't live to see his own kits. Instead he padded to the nest he had for himself, settling down and working the water out of his pelt.

xxx Sunshade nodded at his leader's order, rallying the remaining FloodClan party with his tail. "Alright everyone, it's going to take a while to get back to camp. Dreampaw, please make sure Moonpool sets the pace. If I'm going too fast have the other cats send a message up the line. We need to stay as quiet as possible." Taking a second to do a quick head count he made sure Nightpaw was close by before turning. Sunshade led the cats down the winding path they'd taken from camp as heavy drops of rain began to soak his pelt. When he noticed his dark furred apprentice at his heels he draped his tail over the smaller cats shoulders. "If anyone cat find her, it's Lynxstar. None of us could have predicted this would happen Nightpaw." Sunshade said the words to comfort his apprentice, although he also felt as if he were trying to convince himself. I should have seen this. Why wasn't I watching? His thoughts beat down on him almost as hard as the rain.

When the party arrived back at the camp Skychase was there to greet them. Sushade was glad Rosepaw filled the cat in as he hadn't the heart to tell him his brother was still out in the rain. Sunshade found a dry spot to wait in, grooming the water from his pelt until he was more or less just damp. He looked up at the sound of his leader and Ripplepool returning but slouched slightly to see that the little she-cat was not with them. "It's not your fault, Lynxstar. She's always been a hothead, but let's hope come morning she's had time to cool down and start thinking rationally again." The golden deputy thought a minute on what Lynxstar had proposed. "Skychase is a good choice. It'll help he doesn't smell so strongly of garlic." Sunshade winced at this, it had been partly his fault that they'd been unable to track her, as it'd been his suggestion to disguise their scent in the first place. "I want to say I don't believe Leafpaw would ever betray us, but Stormstar can be... persuasive when he wants to be. It'd be prudent to prepare for the worst, but in the meantime I think the best course of action would be to rest and discuss it more in the morning."

Lynxstar nodded as Sunshade spoke, letting the words sink in. Still, he couldn't stop feeling guilty. She probably wouldn't have run had he not snapped at her. "I want to feel the same, but she's never wanted more than his approval. I can't help but think that if she thought that would be the way to get it... She might." Lynxstar sighed, kneeding the ground with his claws as he thought. "You are right though. Whatever path is best to take will seem more clear in the morning. Get some rest yourself, whatever happens tomorrow is sure to be a busy day." He mewed, before stepping away.

--~--

As morning came, Lynxstar felt better rested than he thought he might. He had slept well, despite the events of the gathering. He could probably blame his late night romp through the rain for causing him to sleep so well. Stretching as he stood, he gave his pelt a thorough grooming. By the time he finished, most of the clan had stirred awake, so he proceeded to leap onto the ledge.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here for a clan meeting!" He howled, watching as his clan mates gathered around him.

"As you know, last night was the first gathering we faced as a clan. For the most part, it went as expected. Stormstar was openly hostile, and Foxstar seemed relatively neutral. He even said he would give consideration to giving us excess territory next moon. Over all, I would say our address to the other clans went well.

At the very end of the gathering, StarClan did cover the moon. It was because Leafpaw attacked Iceleap. I don't know what happened to start the fight, but I broke it up before any serious damage was done. I asked Ripplepool to lead Leafpaw back to camp, at which point she ran away from him and into DawnClan territory. At this moment, she is still missing, and what her thoughts were are a mystery. If she is caught by DawnClan though, she will likely be forced to tell them where our camp is. Hopefully she wont be, but I want us to be prepared for the worst possible scenario.

Skychase - I want you to do your best to re-trace our steps last night and to search the DawnClan border to see if you can perhaps see where Leafpaw got off to. Ripplepool - You are to go to Artemis and warn them to stay away until we tell them otherwise. Sharptalon, you are taking Rosepaw today for hunting. Sunshade, take Nightpaw for a border patrol. Hawkpaw, you and Owlpaw will be staying in camp to begin the process of helping fortify the camp just in case. Let's make sure there is only one entrance and one exit."
With all of his announcements finished, he jumped down from the ledge, watching his clanmates set to the tasks he had given them.

--~--

Skychase had woken at dawn, grateful to feel that his brother's pelt had warmed over the course of the night. Ripplepool's breathing seemed even, and as far as Skychase could hear, his lungs seemed clear. Beyond grateful, he nudged his brother awake. Ripplepool made a disgruntled noise, but also shook himself awake after a moment and started to groom his pelt into shape.

As Lynxstar called for a gathering, the two brothers joined the rest of the clan to hear what their leader had to say. They were disappointed to be separated, but did leave to go do their respective tasks together. Skychase turned away from his littermate, and headed for the direction Lynxstar had taken the cats in for the gathering the night before.

He only found where they had been because of the trodden down grass, but did not get very far by that, as the rain had washed all the scents away and shifted the plants that might have given away their path. So having failed that, he instead kept a few tail lengths between himself and the DawnClan border, remaining downwind as much as possible to hide his scent. Scanning the trees and brush before him, he struggled to see any sign of the apprentice. He didn't dare call out though, for fear a passing patrol might hear him.

He stalked along that way until nearly sun-high before he was finally forced to give up, belly caked in mud. He padded back to camp disappointed in his lack of results, before reporting in to Lynxstar. The older tom was disappointed, but thanked Skychase for trying anyway. Skychase left camp again, washing the worst of the mud from himself in a puddle, before heading out to do some hunting and help Sharptalon and Rosepaw build the fresh-kill pile.

--~--

Ripplepool headed deeper into the two-leg place, searching out the home of the rogues. He eventually found them just as they were waking, and only narrowly avoided getting his pelt handed to him for disturbing them so early and with no forewarning. Still, he completed his mission, warning Artemis an attack could be imminent, and to send for Moonpool if Blossom started her kitting and wanted the help.

When he had finished that, he moved closer to home, stopping twice to get some hunting done. He padded back into camp with a squirrel and a robin in his jaws, dropping them on the pile before joining Hawkpaw, Owlpaw, and Lynxstar in re-enforcing the camp and building dens.

--~--

Nightpaw's sleep that night had been fitful. He kicked at his nest throughout the night, and woke just before dawn to find the grass mostly torn to shreds from his fidgeting. He looked around, finding every cat present except for Leafpaw, causing his ears to droop.

He couldn't help but feel guilty for the night before. He had been the one to respond to Iceleap, probably only antagonizing the warrior further. And he had been the one to stand there and do nothing while Leafpaw jumped at Iceleap, even though he knew he wouldn't have made much of a difference in that fight anyway. He also hadn't followed Ripplepool and Rosepaw and Leafpaw away, instead staying behind and feeling sorry for himself while waiting for Sunshade. He knew he should have followed, should have said something to Leafpaw, tried to comfort her the way she did for him after Iceleap went after him.

'Maybe she wasn't so wrong about me after all...' He thought, shoulders slumping at the thought. He was distracted slightly when Lynxstar called a gathering, and when it was over, he moved toward Sunshade so he wouldn't hold his mentor up.

xxx Leafpaw made her way toward the FloodClan camp in a round about way. She started by crossing the stream twice, then rolling in sweet grass to disguise her own scent and shed any traces of Shadowstone's from her pelt. Once she was satisfied she continued in a more direct path to camp before a rustle caught her attention.

Ducking low into the grass she scented the air but relaxed slightly when a rabbit came into view. I've already had breakfast, but it wouldn't hurt to come to camp with a peace offering. Having decided, the little she-cat kept her body low the ground as she stalked the rabbit. Then suddenly the wind changed and the rabbit caught her scent, taking off. "Fox dung!" Hissing, the she cat sprang into action, chasing the rabbit through the underbrush at a top speed.

Gaining on the critter, she lengthened her stride until she caught up to it, pouncing on it from behind. Her jaws made contact with the prey's back and she made quick work of it with one deadly bite without breaking stride. Without slowing down she kept running towards camp, though the rabbit was heavy and blocked some of her field of vision.

Without realizing it, she came across two cats, her mouth filled with the scent of rabbit she was unable to recognize them until she got closer, trying in vain to slow down on the muddy ground. Trying to bank too quickly the forward motion took her paws right from under her and she barrelled into one of the cats that had just popped into view, knocking him to the ground with her still clutching the rabbit on top of him. "MMmrph." she said around her prey.

xxx Sunshade woke without really feeling rested. Rising to his paws he padded out of the group of nests in the warriors had congregated in until they could build a proper den. Sunshade looked at the outer walls of the Twoleg den they'd been staying it. It looked solid enough but the walls were creaking slightly in the wind. Was that normal? The wind's not even that strong... But there were already so many things to worry about, Sunshade decided to push that aside for now. There was no use stirring up panic if it was just him being paranoid.

The golden tom's ears perked as Lynxstar called a clan meeting, though he was already pretty certain what his leader was going to say. Finding a spot beneath the ledge he nodded at Lynxstar's words. Though he winced slightly at the mention of Leafpaw. Where was that little hot head? Sunshade flicked an ear in acknowledgement of his leader's orders before gathering up his apprentice. Upon closer inspection Nightpaw looked drawn and listless, like he hadn't slept at all last night. Sighing, the tom nudged the dark furred apprentice encouragingly.

"FloodClan needs us to mark borders, Nightpaw. It's a very important job because it's one of the ways we protect the clan and uphold the warrior code." Though the enthusiasm was for Nightpaw's sake Sunshade also believed in the truth of these words. Padding out of the camp Sunshade cast a sidelong glance towards the outer walls of the Twoleg nest. They didn't look so bad from the outside, but what about that old tree just beside it? It leaned heavily to one side, just above the roof of the nest. Sunshade shook his head to clear it. Focus, deputy. You're on border patrol, remember? He caught up to where he'd let Nightpaw walk ahead, veering him towards the first scent marker and showing the apprentice where to renew the scent. The two progressed around the FloodClan border until a distant rustling caught their attention.

Turning, a dark shape suddenly broke through the clearing and ran straight into his apprentice. "Nightpaw!" Sunshade said the name through bared teeth, his claws already out to fight the intruder off. But as he neared the tangled mess of paws and tails he relaxed, letting his claws slide back into his paws. "Leafpaw! Where in StarClan have you been?"

The golden tom licked the top of the wayward apprentice's head affectionately, though she tasted strongly of sweet grass. Disguising her scent? Clever cat. The deputy was pleased she had been careful not to lead any cat back to them. "Nightpaw and I were on border patrol. Why don't you come with us?" He finished the patrol with the two apprentices before heading back to camp. When they returned a hushed whisper rose from the clanmates that saw Leafpaw with them. Some seemed happy she were safe but Sunshade could tell others were not as kind. He covered her small frame from view with his own. "Lynxstar would like to speak with you, Leafpaw." He watched as the apprentice padded over to where Lynxstar was, her ears drooping and her tail low. Be brave, little one. He thought as he watched her.

Nightpaw nodded in agreement when Sunshade spoke, following him out into the morning chill and fluffing his pelt a little. He couldn't see the sense in putting their scents everywhere if they didn't want to be found, warrior code or not. Wouldn't StarClan forgive them if they were doing it for their own safety? He shook his head, following Sunshade's instruction and helping mark the border at the locations he pointed out.

Nightpaw's only warning that he was about to be bowled over was a rustling a few tail lengths away. He had assumed it was one of his clanmates, or else some prey, and had no time to react when a cat suddenly slammed into him. He let out a grunt of pain as the wind was knocked from him, baring his teeth and about to bite at the cat when he heard Sunshade call out Leafpaw's name.

"You came back?" Nightpaw mewed, genuinely confused after everything that had happened the night before. "I mean, I'm glad you did... I just thought you might... Not." He finished lamely as she got up and off of him. They continued their patrol. When they returned to camp, he waited by Sunshade, not sure if hey were done, or if they were going to wait for Lynxstar to finish with Leafpaw.

--~--

Lynxstar glanced over as he heard the shuffling of his cats returning from their patrol. When he saw Leafpaw, he wasn't sure how to react. A thousand thoughts swirled through his mind as he looked over her. He was grateful, at least, to see she seemed un-injured. As she approached, he watched her posture, and for a moment felt a bit guilty. He didn't want her to be afraid of him - didn't want any of his cats to be afraid of him.

"Leafpaw, I'm glad you made it home. Are you alright?" He mewed, trying to think of how to word what he was going to say to her. As much as he wanted to just let it go, he knew his wasn't a moment for pity.

"I hope you are aware that your behavior last night was unacceptable. Not only did you attack another warrior during the full moon truce, but then instead of coming back to camp and facing the consequences, you ran off into the heart of another clan's territory. What do you have to say for yourself?" He spoke calmly, keeping his tone even and doing his best to not get angry. Doing so now would do him no good, and he didn't want her to decide to run off again. When she finished her side, he sighed a bit.

"You are confined to camp until the next gathering. You will care for the elders and queens and help fortify the dens. If you can prove to me you can behave yourself and you've learned from this, I'll decide what happens then." It felt like more of a punishment on the rest of the clan, giving a mouth to feed that wouldn't be working on hunting with the rest of them. But it was the only punishment he could find suitable. At least the worst of her training was over, and he probably wouldn't have to feel terribly guilty about keeping her confined for so long.

"I'm glad you're alright. Welcome home." He mewed, letting his shoulders relax and giving her an affectionate lick on the forehead, "Don't pull anything like that again. I was worried about what Stormstar would have done had he found you." He kept his voice low, wishing he could sum up in any decent way what the night had been like.

                      ᴏᴏᴄxx ...
xxx The surprise in Nightpaw's voice cut Leafpaw deeper than any claws ever could. She could tell she'd really worried and hurt him, and opened her mouth to... Say what? Leafpaw had done all those things, and there was nothing she could do now to take them back. Sighing, she gave up and closed her mouth. For once she had absolutely nothing to say. The little she cat followed Nightpaw and Sunshade in silence as they finished patrolling the border before heading back to camp. With heavy paws she followed them into the Twoleg nest, a murmur rising from her clanmates at her return.

Was it weird that didn't bother her anymore? It was sad, but in perfect honesty she had gotten that exact treatment in DawnClan, and she was used to it already. What hurt was that unlike in DawnClan, she deserved every sidelong glance and unkind word whispered about her. With heavy pawsteps she nodded as Sunshade dismissed both her and then Nightpaw. She watched Nightpaw's retreating form, wondering if it'd be the last time she ever saw him. She had wanted to be his friend so badly, and it made her bitterly sad that she would never get that chance now. She forced herself to turn away, making her way towards the place Lynxstar sat with her head low. Of all the cats in FloodClan, she was most sorry to have failed him. This cat was the one who took her in when no one else wanted her, who made her his first FloodClan apprentice. These facts which she once treasured now left a sour taste in her mouth. Shadowstone's words of reassurance now felt like a fantasy, or a fleeting dream. There was no way Lynxstar would let her stay in FloodClan now.

Leafpaw was pulled out of her thoughts as her leader spoke to her. Home? Can I still call it that? Hope fluttered in her chest but she squashed it immediately. "I'm alright, Lynxstar. Just got a little wet but I guess most cats did last night." Her shoulders sank beneath his words of admonishment. This was more of what she expected, though that didn't make them any easier to hear. "I.... I did it for you!" The little she cat looked up, her big eyes filled with a mix of frustration and sadness. "You didn't hear what she was saying about you, about FloodClan. I couldn't just let her say those things, not after... not after everything you've done for me." The she cat's voice broke at the last word, her gaze dropping to study her paws. There. She'd said it. She'd laid all she had out in front of him, so she could leave now without any regrets. She braced herself and waited in silence without looking up, as if expecting a great weight to fall on her.

But it never came. What Lynxstar said surprised her, and she looked up. "C-confined to camp? Like, I get to stay here? You're not going to kick me out?" Her voice was incredibly happy for someone who had just been severely punished. The duties felt like gifts to her, as clan duties meant she still had a clan. "Of course, I'll do anything!" Her usual excitement was slowly making a comeback, and she was practically bouncing on her paws. But she froze at what he said next. Welcome home... What a beautiful thing to hear. She threw caution to the wind as she buried her face in her leader's chest. "Thank you, Lynxstar!" Her voice was muffled as she nuzzled him, purring happily.

Stepping back, she seemed to finally remember propriety and dipped her head in a more formal gesture. She grew solemn as he mentioned Stormstar, and she realized just now exactly how much danger she would have been in if any other cat had found her. And thank you too, Shadowstone she thought with a with a nod.

"No, I didn't hear what she said, but I expect you to be the bigger cat regardless. Words will not take a life or end our clan, but claws and teeth certainly can. It wont be the last time you hear cats saying negative things about me or FloodClan. I need you to prove to me this won't be an ongoing issue." He replied, keeping his tone as stern as he could manage, despite the rapidly growing affection in his chest. Of course she had lunged for Iceleap over comments in regards to her new clan. "Iceleap has always had a big mouth, and she'll say anything to impress her superiors. Take her words for a few mouse tails, if she got desperate I guarantee she would come to FloodClan with her tail between her legs."

"Kick you out...? Why would I...? Leafpaw you scratched a cat older than you, not anything that would warrant banishment. Do you think you're the first cat to have broken the truce at a gathering?" His tone was half amused, mostly out of amazement she would have jumped to that conclusion. He'd certainly been angry that she had broken the truce, but not that much. She sounded grateful to be getting punished, and he almost felt bad that his actions had lead to her thinking things would be so serious. He was a little surprised when Leafpaw buried her head into his chest, though he started purring after a moment. 'Is this what the kits are going to be like?' he wondered. He let her back off when she was ready, not about to try and shover her away when she just got back.

"Go get some prey, you must be hungry. Bring some to Nightpaw too, he looks like he could use his friend right now. And get some rest, I am waking you up at dawn to get to work on the dens." He mewed with finality, wanting to dismiss her so she could get some time to settle. With all the assumptions she had made, she had to have had a wild night, alone and scared in the rain. He really did pity her, now that he knew all was well.

xxx Leafpaw turned Lynxstar's words over and over in her mind. Words will not take a life or end our clan, but claws and teeth certainly can... She mulled this over, because he was right. She had let Iceleap's words endanger FloodClan. And although words had hurt her all of her life, they had never endangered any cat as much as acting on those words had last night. So maybe she could get to a point where another cat's words wouldn't make he pounce claws out at them. "I.. I think I could do that. If I thought about it like defending FloodClan from myself." Leafpaw knew she'd have to work at this, but she was grateful for the second chance and determined not to waste it.

The apprentice tilted her head at his next set or words. "I guess not? But this was my first Gathering... You've seen StarClan cover the moon before?" Her eyes went wide at this. When she stepped back from thanking him she dipped her head. "Okay, Lynxstar." She turned to do as he said and get herself some fresh kill but looked over her shoulder once more. "And... thanks." She purred before bounding away to find Nightpaw.

Leafpaw stood over the fresh kill pile, taking a moment to think about her options and which of them Nightpaw might like the best. She hummed and hawed before settling on the rabbit she'd caught earlier. Snatching it up she padded slowly to over where her fellow apprentice was. "Hey, you hungry Nightpaw? I figure the least I could do for flattening you was share what I caught." She mrrowed awkwardly at the end. Please don't hate me.

Frogleap was looking at her again. She didn't even need her peripheral vision to know that. They'd been living together alone for so long, they nearly had a mind and body connection. She could almost always know where his eyes were directed, and right now they were burning holes into the right side of her face. Bordering full on rage again, Spidersilk halted suddenly. Frogleap did so as well almost immediately, leaving Thistle to pad on a bit before he sensed the absence of his parents' body heat. He turned just as Spidersilk met her mates eyes. She had to look away quickly, though. Frogleap's eyes carried everything in them and right now she was too angry with him to let herself see the worry and regret there. It would soften her up within moments, and she didn't want to be soft yet. "What?" she demanded venomously, her ears drawn back and her eyes narrowed to slits, focused on a line of trees beyond the deteriorating twoleg dens. Frogleap shuffled his paws. "I'm sorry." "Stars--So you've said. Many times." "Well. Yeah. Because I'm really sorry." "It's fine, Frogleap."

Thistle had rounded back to form a triangle between the three of them, and at this moment released a loud snort. Spidersilk's paw flashed out at the back of his head at the same time as Frogleap reflexively said, "Excuse you." Looks of incredulous disbelief passed from son to mother to mate. Frogleap blinked. "I mean. Uh." Silence. "Um." Thistle shook his head, stifling a smirk in favor of turning on his mother. "Okay first, that was uncalled for. Second, your tone and body language makes it very obvious that things are not 'fine'. Can you just be straight up with dad so we can get off the eggshells?" Spidersilk flushed beneath her pelt, guilt and embarrassment washing over her. She awkwardly bent to lick her son's head, right where she'd cuffed him, then rose stiffly to stare down at him in silence for a beat. "Okay." Her attention moved to Frogleap's face, his big amber eyes hitting her like a twoleg monster.

There was a pregnant silence before it became evident Spidersilk was not going to say the first word. Frogleap sighed. "I know you think that the continuation of my dreams means I'm not completely yours, and maybe some part of that is true. But that doesn't take away from the fact that I have still chosen you and our family over everything else--even in spite of what it all meant to me. I know you feel like returning right now is the beginning of the end of us, but it's not. I just want you to understand that I am a clan cat, as well as your mate. And I love you, and will always choose you when it counts, but this," he waved his tail in the direction they were headed, "is important to me. StarClan and everyone we grew up with--they matter too. I just want to make sure they're okay, and then we can go back to our life."

Thistle nodded and turned to look at his mother, still staring at Frogleap. At some point during his spiel, her stiffness had melted. Understanding had dawned on her, and she was looking at him with obvious earnest. "Okay. Okay, alright, you're right. I'm sorry." She rushed forward, pressing her face into Frogleap's neck fur. The act made her look softer, gentler. It was not a sight Thistle could say he witnessed very often. He purred in content satisfaction as Frogleap chuckled warmly, wrapping his tail around his mate's small shoulders. "There's been enough sorry today. It's okay." He craned his neck to lick her cheek soothingly.

Spidersilk allowed herself a moment more to breathe in her mate before she pulled herself back. "Right. Of course it is." She shook herself off, rising to her paws. "Let's get on with things then. The forest should be just beyond these old twoleg dens." Starting back up, she left Frogleap and Thistle behind to trade smirk for a smile before they too padded after her.

-->Beginning Timeskip. 3 days before the next gathering...<--

A lot had happened over the course of the past moon, Lynxstar had to admit. Stardancer and Dewheart had joined them from FloodClan. Ceadarmask, Grasspaw, and Fawnpaw had as well. Frogleap and Spidersilk were with them, though if they and their kit Thistle were going to stay was still up in the air. And another rogue, a she-cat named Lavendersky, had also become part of the clan. Over all, he was much more comfortable to be facing the gathering than he had been a moon prior. He had cats to defend his camp, if need be. And cats to back up his words, if DuskClan and DawnClan were reluctant to give up their territory.

His kits, sadly, still had yet to grace the world. Moonpool didn't seem overly concerned for that fact, so Lynxstar did his best to not be either. At least now every group of cats had a den to sleep in, thanks in no small part to the work of Leafpaw while she'd been confined to camp. Lynxstar was pleased with her progress, and had full intentions of giving her another try at a gathering at the end of the moon for taking her punishment with less complaint than most apprentices would have.

Shaking his head to free himself from his reverie, Lynxstar stood and stretched, padding out into the 'clearing' of the two-leg den. He could hear the wind outside, causing the two-leg den to creak and groan. Nightpaw and Lavendersky agreed it was fairly normal for two-leg dens to do so. He still was not completely certain, but took their word for it.

He could see patrols had already been sent away for the day, if the empty nests were anything to go by. He was glad to see it. He heard a sudden, sharp crack snap through the air, before an odd second of complete silence. Then there was an echoing crash, and a sound like ice being shattered suddenly, as debris shot across the den and the roof came crashing down. He barely managed to lunge out of the way in time to avoid being crushed in the collapse.

Panting, Lynxstar whirled to see what had happened as the cacophony ceased as swiftly as it had began. His heart seemed to climb into his throat as he realized the large tree that had been next to the den had fallen in to it, and now lay in the camp. It had completely smashed his own den, and just barely missed the medicine cat den and nursery.

"Was any cat hurt?" He called, quickly running to check the dens, and finding that most cats seemed to only have superficial injuries. He was about to check the nursery, when he realized that the tree blocked the way, and it was surrounded in its of den, and the shattered remains of the odd ice two-legs used in some of the holes in their den. For a moment, it was only an annoyance - the nursery seemed un-touched, but inaccessible. They would find a way across by sun-high.

And then he heard Cloverstream let out a pained wail that could only mean one thing - the kits had finally decided to come.

--~--

Skychase woke early, and found himself in charge of the dawn patrol. Annoyed, but without many options, he asked Dewheart and Cedarmask to join him. He only had to wait briefly, before they padded out into the early morning light. It was muted, somewhat; thick gray clouds obscured the sky, and a heavy wind was whipping through the tree-tops, sending a chill into Skychase's pelt.

"Not a great morning for a patrol." He mewed, complaint a bit thicker in his tone than he'd intended, even as he paused to mark the first spot on their patrol. They were still maintaining a solid distance from the other clan's borders, in an effort to avoid being found, but Lynxstar insisted on following the code as much as possible. Not that Skychase was complaining, but sometimes it seemed foolhardy. Though, on a day like today, any scents an enemy patrol picked up could be coming from anywhere.

As they walked, the trees above swayed and creaked. Skychase couldn't help but keep glancing up, half expecting a branch to come down on his head at any moment. Blessedly, the moment never came, and the tom relaxed a bit as they came to a more open stretch filled with divets from where a two-leg monster once passed through.

--~--

Ripplepool woke when his brother had, finding himself sent on a hunting patrol. He took Sharptalon, Rosepaw, Hawkpaw, and Owlpaw with him, if only to actually get the other two apprentices out of camp. They headed out, and instead of heading toward more open land, they went deeper into the maze of two-leg dens.

All around them, the structures groaned in complaint from the abuse the wind was giving them. It was almost comforting, to hear the sounds coming from a sen other than the one where FloodClan currently resided. The cats split off, choosing different dens to explore in search of prey, while also getting out of the wind to avoid the chill. Ripplepool and Rosepaw went into one den, so he could help her focus on her skills. Sharptalon went in to the next one down on his own. Hawkpaw and Owlpaw went together to one across.

By the time they met back up, each cat had at least two pieces of prey each, all plump from their easy life hiding in the dens currently un-inhabited by cats. The began the trek back to camp.

--~--

Nightpaw had gone out the night previous with the Dusk patrol, and wound up being awake much later than he usually would be with the extra energy the late exercise had given him. Which meant, he had slept in a bit.

He was woken suddenly by the sound of the crash, the sudden noise making him wake with a yelp and lunge out of his den, thankfully in the direction of safety. Chest heaving he stared at the damage that had been done.

"Whoa... I didn't know a tree that big could fall down." He mewed, eyes wide as he took in the sight. And then Cloverstream let out an awful sounding yowl, sounding pained. He didn't dare move closer, but from what he could see the tree shouldn't have hit her... It took him a moment to realize that she was probably starting her kitting... When every cat in the clan was separated from her. He glanced at Sunshade, looking for some sort of instruction, not sure if it would be better for him to just stay out of the way for now.

Lavendersky was still unused to this whole 'clan' thing. Not in a bad way, but she just still hadn't adjusted to the idea that so many cats could be allies and friends. Some cats even liked to call it a family. As a kittypet, the only other cats she had ever encountered were pets of her two-legs. All were vain things, thinking themselves better than her because they were pure-bred, and she couldn't say what her lineage was.

These cats didn't care where you came from, so long as you could obey their rules. And seeing as their rules, at their core, were 'care for your own'? She could easily follow that. Sometimes, it was still a challenge to ignore her hungry belly if she knew Cloverstream or Spidersilk hadn't eaten yet. Sometimes it was hard to rise with the sun to join a patrol. But when a cat complimented her on a job well done, of she could lie in a den with other cats and feel safe sleeping knowing they were there if trouble arouse? It was a feeling she hadn't felt since she was with Taylor, the rogue who first showed her how to fend for herself. But it was magnified now, and the security of having it multiplied several times over was worth every second of inconvenience.

'Having a tom like Sunshade to look at doesn't hurt either.' She mused, glancing over at the other as she sat outside the den grooming herself. Something about the tom appealed to her, though she so far had found dismally few chances to talk with him. But he hit her as a good cat, and his pelt was certainly something to envy. While she wasn't the loveliest cat anymore herself after a run-in with a two-leg monster, she liked to keep what fur she had left in line. Whether that would be enough for her to catch any tom's attention would now be left for StarClan to decide. She found the thought of the warrior ancestors both thrilling and terrifying, and only hoped they approved of her being among their friends and kin.

For once, she hadn't been chosen for a patrol, so after her grooming she was planning on heading out to get some hunting done. She had just about finished, when she heard the snap of the tree about to fall, and on impulse lunged away. Her reflexes saved her from too much injury, though some debris bit into her fur and left her bleeding a bit, but from her own quick assessment as things settled down, she was relatively unharmed.

However, she could see the nursery blocked off, and joined Lynxstar in glancing for a path. She hissed in pain as she stepped on something sharp, glancing at her pad to see one of the glass shards from the shattered windows and skylight had pierced the pad. Without thinking, she pulled he piece out and spat it away, waving off any concerns of Lynxstar's to help look over what had happened. And then Cloverstream yowled.

Lavendersky watched Lynxstar leap up on to the remains of the tree and attempt to weave through the the jagged maze of broken branches that comprised its trunk. Halfway through, it seemed he could go no further, and he only managed to get back to solid ground again with Sunshade's help. Lavendersky glanced around, finding a spot that looked to be clear of broken glass and jumping for it. She could spot a few patches like the one she was currently in, but knew her own legs wouldn't carry her between them safely.

"There might be a path this way?" She mewed, before carefully leaping back to Lynxstar's side. "I can't make it, but another cat might."

Cloverstream had been dozing lightly, focusing her attention all on the tiny movements her kits were making. The two seemed to be exceptionally active this morning, and she couldn't help but hope it meant that they would finally be arriving soon.

She was startled to full awareness as there was an explosion of sound just outside the den. She was just about to get to her paws to check on the source, but with the slightest movement a sudden pain wracked her from the tip of her tail to her nose, and all she could do was howl with pain.

"Moonpool!" she managed to moan after a moment, as another wave came over her. She hoped the medicine cat would arrive soon. 'StarClan please... Let this go well' she pleaded quietly, squirming in discomfort.
