Remarque nodded. "Sounds about right."

He didn't have a way to confirm, but the Mirror probably knew what it was talking about. Ptolemaeus sounded Senshi-enough for him, and a sphere of change? Sounded good to him.

"Ptolemaeus is going to be your name, Senshi of Change is going to be your title. Senshi share a name with the source of their power. So for me, Remarque," he placed his hand over his chest, "Means I'm tied to a place out there named Remarque. 'Change' is the sphere that you control. It means that your powers are going to be related to that. But—the important thing to take from this is that you have powers. The Mirror's chosen you. Means you've got the ability to change the world. Which," he scoffed. "Is good, because it's going to be in a hell of a lot of danger in the next few years."

As Remarque began to explain, Kit looked up to realize his new reflection was depicted multiple times in the various mirrors scattered across the walls of the throne room. He looked about as if expecting one of the many reflections staring back at him to show him something different, but all revealed the same thing: Sailor Ptolemaeus, his new Dark Mirror Senshi identity.

He slowly walked up to one of the mirrors for a closer look, examining his outfit better from both his reflection and by looking down at the actual clothes he was now wearing. "So...you have a different name, then," he said to Remarque, eyes falling upon the brooch at his own chest. He touched it absently. "'Change', huh?"

Ptolemaeus turned around to face the prince once again. "Danger from who? For who? Why?" He had been chosen? For what, exactly? The teen began to wonder if he was actually and truly in over his head this time. It sounded like Remarque had been holding back on a lot of information until that Black Mirror had decided to spit him back out a few minutes ago. Was he now a part of these Dark Mirror people whether he wanted to be or not?

“Danger from something that was going to change your life, one way or the other. The Negaverse--a group of individuals corrupted and brainwashed by an evil known as Metallia. Her goal, so far as I know, is to destroy Earth. Or, at least, the White Moon Senshi--not us, yet--and Knights that inhabit the Earth. There are two groups, the White Moon Senshi and the Knights, who are trying to protect Earth from her. Honestly, there’s no telling who is ‘right’, because they both think they are. Either Metallia is evil and destroying the world, or she’s purging the alien entities that are destroying the world. The point is, in a few years, the Negaverse will have the ability to control the world, unless we change the course of things. The Negaverse taking over the world means imprisoning anyone who disagrees with them or their regime, killing those who oppose or question them. And then, you know. Destroying the world.”

He shrugged nonchalantly. “You’d have been just fodder if the Mirror hadn’t chosen you. Now, you have a chance of surviving--and, more than that, helping the ones you care for. Personally, I think this world is going to burn. I don’t think there’s anything we can do to stop it. But, I think we can use our powers to hold off the inevitable, and maybe we can use this place,” he gestured around to Mirrorspace, “To help us carve out a little pat of the Universe that they can’t touch. In the meantime, we need to find as many White Moon Senshi and try to save them. It is a burden, but,” he seemed honest enough when he said, “It comes with its perks.”

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold the phone. That's a lot of information you just flooded me with, so let me try getting this straight," the new senshi said, putting up his palms. "...There's someone named Metallia out there who's corrupting and brainwashing people to make a cult group called the Negaverse. You think Metallia wants to use the Negaverse to destroy the Earth because the two groups called the White Moon Senshi and the Knights live on it," he said, casting Remarque a slightly incredulous look.

"But the White Moon Senshi and the Knights are trying to protect the Earth from Metallia. And yet...you're saying it's possible that the White Moon Senshi and the Knights could be the ones destroying Earth as alien entities and...Metallia could be the one protecting it?" His head was already spinning. Somehow he was sure he had a place in this but he still wasn't sure where.

"You said there's no telling who's right, but you're sure making it sound like the Negaverse group is the most dangerous one here. Am I getting that right?" He frowned. "How are you so sure the Negaverse will have the ability to control the world?" Ptolemaeus scratched his head. "Imprisioning, killing, and destroying...on the orders of someone who built a cult off brainwashing and corrupting people...doesn't that already sound like Metallia is the one who's dangerous to the Earth instead of being the one purging the danger?"

He rubbed at his temples, trying to sort things out better in his head. "So you're saying your group...the...Dark Mirror Senshi...is trying to protect the White Moon Senshi and Earth from the Negaverse and Metallia?" Raising a brow, he asked, "Or are you just trying to save this place?"

”I’m saying there’s a big picture out there, and you’re going to have to learn how to adapt to who approaches you. There is a future out there--one many of us were shown--where the Negaverse has rounded us up and tried to execute us. I’d warrant that’s enough for a bit of suspicion, don’t you think?”

He gave the man another moment to let things sink in and then continued, “The White Moon, and the Knights, are trying to stop us. They don’t see us as anything but Chaos--aligned with Metallia. Which, we are not. Once, our Queen--now absent and defunct, I’ll tell you about her another time--made an alliance with them. So the Negaverse knew our identities, knew our civilian names--which you always must protect, don’t let anyone know if you don’t trust them. You mustn't ever reveal yourself to the White Moon, either. Unless they are joining us, but that’s also another story. This is a lot to take in, and I am sorry. There’s not really a handbook, but I’ll give you my number so you can call. We can meet up again after tonight and go over things again, after you’ve had time to let the basics sink in. It’s not like you get quizzed on this stuff, so just take it in on your own time.”

But there were still a lot of questions he had to answer. “...Just remember that you should be careful with the Negaverse. They aren’t out for our blood, yet, but we all had a vision of what the future could hold--and if things continue the way they are, it could be very, very bad. Right now, we are a very small group amidst three larger ones that could honestly team up to dispose of us. Sometimes that requires playing both sides. I prefer to approach the Negaverse with politeness, but I would not tell them my activities. I don’t want them to use it against me. Still, I do have friends in the Negaverse. I don’t think they are all lost causes. But I would sooner trust my life with a Dark Mirror Senshi than one of them.”

He sighed and combed his fingers through his hair. “The White Moon Senshi have an alliance to the Moon Queen--some deep, imbedded loyalty to the woman who caused mass destruction many years ago. It’s vague, everyone has a different version of the story. Some think that she will ruin us all, and some think that she’ll be able to defeat Metallia. The White Moon itself is divided. Some of them are friendly to us, and some will try to kill us. But if the Moon Queen comes back, who's to say she won’t have the same effect on the Senshi as Metallia does on the Negaverse?”

It was food for thought and all speculation so he shrugged. “The more White Moon Senshi we can convince to join us, the more we save from her--and the more we have to help us with our own goal. And,” he looked across the vast room, and Mirrorspace’s smokey walls. “We need all the help we can get.”

"Oh. So you...saw a future vision," Ptolemaeus said slowly, wondering just how that might have been possible. "Did the Negaverse and other groups see it too, or just you guys?" Maybe these mirrors did more than just act as portals or sentient beings. Adapting was something he was confident he could do, however. He continued to listen and absorb more information the hopes of clearing up more of his confusion.

"Not that I'm complaining, but are you saying I'm one of you guys now - the Dark Mirror Senshi - whether I want to be or not?" the teen asked, wondering how he had gotten himself into this without even realizing the entirety of the situation. With all these factions and captures and executions, it almost sounded like a war.

At the very least, though, if he was part of this group regardless of what he wanted, it also sounded like the Dark Mirror Senshi were trying to be neutral in all this for now, so it didn't seem like anyone was actively out to get them. Being a small group meant they were more likely to be overlooked by the big ones, too, while they still had larger rivals to keep their attention.

"Playing both sides..." Ptolemy repeated. "Like a Devil's Advocate? That's something I know how to do. But...if you're on the White Moon's side, is it not possible to make an alliance with them, now?" He cocked his head to one side. "Wouldn't that be easier than trying to convince them individually to join you so they know you're trying to help?"

And then there was something about a Moon Queen that had caused mass destruction. "So...there's no Moon Queen right now, but there was before. And...she caused mass destruction just like Metallia's aim to do? Wouldn't they want the same thing, then?" This was getting worse and worse. "And you Dark Mirror people had a queen, too? Where'd they all go?" He raised a brow. "And what's our goal, exactly? What's in it for the White Moon Senshi?"

Remarque resisted the urge to slide a hand down his face as he listened to Ptolemaeus' questions. He had to ration to himself that he'd had his own questions when he'd been brought into the Dark Mirror Court--only, his hadn't been answered.

He tried to go down the list of questions. "I know more than just the Dark Mirror Court saw visions, but I don't know exactly what everyone else saw. So far, it seems like we all saw the same thing."

That was the easy one. The next one-- "I suppose if you really wanted, you don't have to be a part of the Court. No one's going to force you to power up. If you wanted to pretend none of this ever happened..." He shrugged and had to bite back the anger that bubbled at the thought. It would have been a waste of energy--a waste of talent. "...But at least you're prepared if something does happen. If you do need the extra power to save yourself, it's there. We don't know what the future holds. Which is what makes it difficult to make an alliance with the White Moon."

He drew in a breath and tried to figure out how to explain that one shortly. "...There are members of the White Moon who think that we're evil. They try to pollute the others. If we allied with the White Moon, the Negaverse could pick us off easily. The Queen I mentioned--Ares, don't worry about her. She was a Queen of her own title. The White Moon Queen disappeared, I don't know where she is. Ares went through a Mirror and we haven't seen her in years. I don't know what's become of her, or if she'll ever return, but don't worry about her. We don't operate based on the law of one person, and even if she came back," he shrugged. "Ares doesn't know what's best for us. She's been gone for too long, and only ever had her own agenda."

Which brought him to the final question.

"Our goal is to explore Mirrorspace, find what power it holds, and use that to protect Earth. We want to get out into space--to explore, and expand. If we're lucky, we'll manage to do that before this war gets too bad. The White Moon Senshi have worlds out there, that they can reach with their magic. Worlds that are dead--that can't sustain life. If we succeed, maybe we'll find a world that can. In case something happens to Earth, we'll have the security of another planet, ready for us. For anyone we can save."

"Power up?" he repeated, the phrase unfamiliar to him. "What's that?" Maybe it had something to do with these new clothes and the new title he'd been given with his new name. Along with the warning to protect his 'civilian name', this was all starting to sound suspiciously like some weird superhero comic or magical girl manga.

"Wait, wait, what do you mean the White Moon tries to pollute others? What others and what do you mean by 'pollute'?" Ptolemy rubbed the back of his neck anxiously. "Why would the Negaverse pick us off any easier if we were allied with the White Moon than if we weren't? If we were, couldn't we stand together against the Negaverse and be stronger for it?" Sure, there would be the White Moon's belief that the Dark Mirror Senshi were evil to overcome. But if they could manage to do so, Remarque still seemed to think it would pose a problem.

"Okay, the queens I get now, I think. All are irrelevant right now 'cept for Metallia who controls the Negaverse. But you're saying the Dark Mirror Senshi are exploring Mirrorspace in the hopes of finding something to protect Earth as well as maybe find a new world that can be used as a back-up if Earth goes down. Right?"

He sighed and shook his head. "But then what's with trying to get White Moon Senshi to join you? Can they even enter Mirrorspace if it's just for you Dark Mirror people? Or can they become Dark Mirror Senshi too?" Ptolemaeus rubbed at his temples. "Are you saying you want more Dark Mirror Senshi because that'll expand the search in Mirrorspace?"

He wasn't sure how any power or anything else could be found in this strange place, much less a whole new life-sustaining world, but if Remarque had reason to believe it did, Ptolemy wasn't in any position to question him.

"Power up, when you transform from who you were fifteen minutes ago to this. While you're powered up--as in, while you're Ptolemaeus, it's just a secret identity where you get new powers. I'll make sure you know how to do that, so don't worry--I won't forget. When you want to power down--where you from back to being a civilian--you just have to relax, clear your mind, and think about doing it. Focus on what you were wearing, that helps."

But there were a slew of questions he could ask about that, so Remarque moved to the next question. "You've got the part about the Queens right, and the part about needing White Moon Senshi to join us. White Moon Senshi can become Dark Mirror Senshi, and the more Dark Mirror Senshi, the more we can explore Mirrorspace. Others can't come in here without the aid of a Dark Mirror Senshi or they get kicked out--or drained. I suppose that's the 'hardest' part about being a Dark Mirror Senshi. You have to drain energy."

He offered him a moment to let that sink in and then produced two Mirrorshards. He handed one of his to the Senshi and held out the other one in display. "To do that, you're going to summon a Mirrororwrath. It'll pop out, run through someone, drain some energy, and then go home. They're very fragile when they're full of energy, so you have to protect it. To answer some questions I know you'll have--No, they don't hurt. No, they don't kill anyone. No, I don't know where they came from, but they are at our disposal. Yes, they are ugly. If they break, or the shard you're holding breaks, tell me and I'll get you a new one."

After he held his shard out for a second, a strange creature slid out. It was tiny and catlike, though looked like it had a rat's tail and long, rabbit ears. It's entire form seemed to be made of shards of glass. It looked around, confused, and began stalking the area. With no one to drain, it seemed sort of lost.
"They listen to some commands, but not much. They can't communicate. Their sole purpose is to drain energy--and you're not likely to get the same one twice. These are portals for them to come through, from deeper inside Mirrorspace. They gather energy and then return it to Mirrorspace with them. You can drain energy from anyone--but if you've got strong morals and are particularly righteous, there are a few slums and dark alleyways I can direct you to. Take it from the muggers, the drug dealers, the criminals if you want. You'll be doing the world a favor, there."

He paused and held out the shard; finally, confused, the wraith returned to it. Remarque looked at the man in front of him, expecting another slew of questions. This time, he was ready. He was getting back into his groove. Hopefully.

'Transform'? So this wasn't just some weird costume change after all. This really was some strange transforming magic. He wondered what else it had changed besides his clothes and giving him a new title. Perhaps Remarque would tell him when he taught him learn how to 'power up', as he called it. Powering down sounded simple enough, but his head was still too full of trying to comprehend all of this information for him to try to clear it just then.

"...If White Moon Senshi can become Dark Mirror Senshi, what about Knights and Negaverse people?" Ptolemaeus asked, though in asking he thought he might have answered his own question. Senshi could probably change sides because they were still senshi, but maybe there was an equivalent for the others.

He still wasn't sure what the difference between Knights and Negaverse were as opposed to senshi except that the Negaverse were supposed to be brainwashed and corrupted by Metallia. Maybe they couldn't become Dark Mirror Senshi, then, because her hold on them was too strong.

The comment about the hardest part of being a Dark Mirror Senshi caught Ptolemy's attention again in particular. "Drain energy?" he repeated softly. From who? Why? Themselves, perhaps? How much?

Before he had a chance to ask these questions, though, he was distracted by the sight of the two shards Remarque had brought out. He took the one he was given, inspecting it curiously, before diverting his attention to the other. Mentally he took notes as Remarque answered questions he had not yet voiced. Still more came to him, but he doubted it would do much good to wonder about them. If these shards could break and the wraiths were fragile, did that mean they died? Were they even alive to begin with? And if Remarque could get new ones, didn't that mean he had at least some idea where they came from?

The sight of the actual Mirrorwraith again derailed his train of thought, however. He had imagined a wraith to look like some cloaked phantom or something so the tiny, catlike form with the rat tail and rabbit ears caught him by surprise. Rather than ugly, he thought they looked sorta cute. And the way they appeared to be made out of shards of glass was almost like they were living mosaic statues. At its apparent confusion, Ptolemaeus looked back at Remarque. "...They don't attack us? We have energy they can drain too, right?"

When he was told they weren't likely to 'get the same one twice', he wasn't sure what that meant until the other senshi went on to say the shards - at least Ptolemy assumed he meant the shards - were portals for the wraiths to come through. So it wasn't likely one would summon the same wraith twice. How one could tell the difference between wraiths enough to know it wasn't the same one also puzzled him, but he supposed that wasn't a particularly important question to ask, either.

"So they gather energy for Mirrorspace...like... bees that gather pollen and return to the hive when they have enough to make honey," he murmured. "Why do Dark Mirror Senshi need to help them gather energy, though? It doesn't help you explore Mirrorspace, does it?"

If the wraiths were doing all the work, why had Remarque called this the hardest thing about being a Dark Mirror Senshi? Was it the whole thing about a question of morals? "If they can drain energy from anyone, doesn't that mean they can drain it from us, too? Why does it have to be others?"

He paused. "Not that I have a problem with it, really. If I'm understanding this right, we're just taking a little energy that people can always make more of. Just seems a little strange to me; I still don't really get why we would do that." Oh. He was already calling them 'we'; including himself as one of them. Smirking softly, Ptolemaeus watched the wraith return to its shard. It seemed like he had already made his choice about joining their group. "I'm assuming White Moon Senshi don't have to do this sort of thing unless they have their own energy-gathering system."

Remarque was slowly growing more accustomed to keeping a mental checklist of the questions he was asked and strived to be patient while he waited for Ptolemaeus to get through all of his questions.

He had taken note of the ‘we’ and seemed a bit more relaxed and accepting of questions now that he was a bit more certain he wasn’t just wasting his time.

“White Moon Senshi don’t drain energy, but if they found a way, I’m sure they would. If someone could promise that their world’s energy would be restored if they donated energy to it, I’m sure they’d be a lot more understanding and sympathetic towards us. We can drain energy from other Dark Mirror Senshi--or ourselves--but the wraiths recognize us as being on their team, as it were. They will go towards the nearest energy source, the one most different from our own. But, I think they would understand if you summoned one for the sheer purpose of offering your own energy. Otherwise, unprovoked? No, they shouldn't attack you.”

Remarque deliberately neglected to tell him about the incident a few years back, where the wraiths were attacking everyone--Dark Mirror Senshi included. But that had been an anomaly--and one he wasn’t going to allow to happen again.

“The morality of draining energy is usually what holds people up--but like you said, no one is ever hurt, and their energy can be restored in as little as a day. A cold is likely to knock you out worse than what we do--and most people will never even know. And it goes to a good cause--Mirrorspace is a tool, but it needs batteries. The energy we give it are its batteries, and the stronger it is, the stronger we are.”

He thought he was finally starting to get enough of the puzzle pieces to form something of a picture in his head. He still wasn't sure just how large it was, since he felt only a few of the pieces he'd been given formed the metaphorical border, but it was a start. Some things he supposed he'd have to ask people from other factions about to get the answers to and other things still he would probably only understand through more experience as a Dark Mirror Senshi.

"So what I'm getting is that it's kinda pointless to give the wraiths energy for Mirrorspace because it just comes back to us since we get our energy from Mirrorspace itself - energy to transform and be 'powered up'." Ptolemy reasoned. "But then do the Negaverse people get their power the same way we do? And what about the White Moon Senshi? If they don't drain energy at all, where does their power come from?"

"The Negaverse gets their energy by draining it from people. Only, they have a penchant for actually hurting people. They are far less subtle and require far more energy. Of course, they aren't shy about killing people, but." Remarque shrugged. "We are very different from them. The Senshi, however, draw their energy from their homeworlds. That is, distant worlds they are tied to, from another life. But their worlds are dead or dying and eventually I can only assume that they'll lose their power all together."

Remarque wasn't thrilled with the prospect of being given all this power only to lose it because you couldn't maintain a world a few million--billion?--light years away.

"Ultimately, it takes us longer to collect energy, but I think we have the best system. It's a slow process, but no one gets hurt. People often underestimate us but," he shrugged, "Better for them to be focused on other issues. The more distracted they are by each other, the more we can do without their interference."

Kit nodded slowly as he processed everything, though more questions continued to pop up such as why the Negaverse required more energy than they did and if the White Moon Senshi needed more or less. As there was no guarantee that Remarque would have been able to answer that, however, the teen decided to stick with asking things the other male probably would have been able to answer.

"You mentioned that there is a place with your name - Remarque. Is that a homeworld?" If the White Moon Senshi had homeworlds, why not them? He studied the sheer fabric attached to his top. "Do all senshi have homeworlds regardless of their faction? If they do, how come you can't draw energy from them like the White Moon Senshi? Is yours dead already? Or does Mirrorspace donate energy to them?" Scratching his neck, he wondered aloud, "How do whole worlds die, anyway? Did the Negaverse attack them before coming to Earth, or did the inhabitants of the others destroy them themselves?"

Craning his head up to look at the smoke swirling across the white walls of mirrors, Kit - Ptolemaeus - realized how odd that this dimension or whatever it was had such structure to it. He would have thought that a place called 'Mirrorspace' might have appeared more like outer space...especially when Remarque talked of exploring it in order to find a planet to replace the Earth. "Remarque, is there more to Mirrorspace than this?" He touched one of the walls of the throne room. "Or do you really believe a sustainable world large enough to contain the whole population of an entire planet could be found within these walls?" It was difficult for him to picture, but the blonde had to know more about this place than he did.

Turning back to Remarque, he said, "I guess it's not safe to even tell people we trust about this powered business since we don't know who else might be able to power up...but for people who are powered up, how do we know the difference between them? Like what does someone from the Negaverse look like? Do the White Moon Senshi look any different from us?" He looked between his own and the other man's outfits. There were similarities, but they were also very different. "Is there a way to tell if someone's from our own court other than asking?"

Ptolemaeus glanced back at the Black Mirror. "And something else I meant to ask... You said to try to save the White Moon Senshi and convince them to join us, but what about the Negaverse? Can we try to convince them too?" He tilted his head. "Or do you think Metallia's power over them is too strong? If they could be freed from that power, is it possible that they could also become Dark Mirror Senshi?"

Remarque listened as the other Senshi spoke and, when the young man finished, he wound up whistling. “Lot of good questions there. Let me see,” he paused to scratch at his chin before settling on how he wanted to answer things.

“There’s probably a world out there, Remarque. But I’ll bet it’s as run down as the rest of the Senshi worlds I’ve seen, so there’s not much point seeking it out. From what I gather of the other Senshi worlds, just because they exist—just because they can reach them—doesn’t mean they can do anything with them. They can’t sustain life, at the very least. Senshi worlds die from any number of things, I suppose. I’ve never met a Senshi that remembers exactly what happened, but I doubt it was the Negaverse. If they could have gotten into space to destroy them, I don’t know why they’d be having such a hard time now. So, I think it must have been something else.”

His eyes lingered on the walls of Mirrorspace and he thought of all that he had seen—and wondered how much more there was.

“I think there’s more to Mirrorspace, too. I’ve seen things, out of the corner of my eye. Things that I couldn’t explain. Things that disappeared when I got close enough. We still don’t really know where so many things come from—wraiths, our powers. So I know there are answers out there. We just have to find them. And, if those answers are out there, I’m sure there’s more, too. I don’t think we could have all this magic without there being something substantial out there. I’m going to keep looking until I find it.”

He seemed thoughtful for a moment, debating on how he wanted to answer the last few questions. “It’s easier to save the White Moon Senshi, I think, because they aren’t brainwashed by Metallia. Truthfully, sure, I think some of the Negaverse could be saved. But we have no way to help their agents, and their corrupted Senshi are few and far between. And, if Metallia caught us poaching her Senshi,” he shrugged. “The Negaverse has records on quite a few of us. Not much we can do about it, considering Ares decided to sell us out early on. So we have to play nicely.”

To a certain degree.

“We can worry about them later, but for now, the best thing to do is focus on the easiest ones and hope we can build up our numbers. If you can find a corrupted Senshi that you think you can help, go for it. But don’t make an enemy of the Negaverse in the process. The Negaverse, by the way, are usually dressed in uniforms and are carrying something sharp. Knights have strange symbols all over them and are usually carrying something useless. Those are the ones I don’t know how to help. But the rest of them, probably Senshi. White Moon’s usually got a white top. Corrupted Senshi have holes in their foreheads and chests, but they wear black, like us. All Dark Mirror Senshi wear black, and we’ve got some colorful fabric.”

He tugged at his colored overlay.

“But the real giveaway is the energy signature—all of us have different energy signatures, Corutwise. You’ll be able to tell the difference from that alone.”
