Cruz hovered behind dutifully, sniffing at the air to take in the changing scents. It was strange, but Cruz was glad at least the scents were pleasant and enticing. When they reached the end of the pier, the croc was equally perplexed. He leaned close to Eden, hovering over her shoulder to peer at the compass and then to Ian as he spoke.
"Oh," Cruz placed his hands on the railing at the edge and peeked over as Eden had. Waves sloshed lazily against the wood. The scent of salt, sand, and sea foam made it hard for him to discern where the smell of bread could be coming from -- it was probably hell for Yuri. "If it's there, I can go."
Without waiting for confirmation, he started to slip out of his white hoodie and drape it over his arms. One of the pockets was weighed down by a few items; his phone and key ring in particular. As neither human was holding anything particularly cumbersome, Cruz drifted toward Yves with an apologetic smile. "Can you hold my stuff so it doesn't get wet?" The bag of essence containers was among the effects he held out.

It seemed the end of the pier was the end of the line. However, before Cruz threw himself into the waves, they spotted something right underneath them. Sitting just in the shadows right next to a vertical railing, is a few pieces of.... poop?
As if on cue, the smell changed as well, to a lovely fruity peach scent! Yuri would be able to confirm that the smell was coming from the few pieces of excrement if he goes closer. Now who will be the one who picks them up?Fel Essence #61 Fragrant Excrement
A few pieces of cat poop sat at the bottom of this vial. One might wonder... WHAT THE ACTUAL s**t???!!?! But yes... these few pieces of dried cat poop are indeed, a fel essence. If you take a careful whiff around the cork of the vial, you could smell the smell of the poop permeating through. However, it doesn't smell like excrement at all! Instead you would smell the smell of soothing lavender, the smell of grass after a rain, the smell of a sea breeze even. All pleasant smells that draws you in, continuing to enchant you. Until that is, you realized you're taking whiffs from a few pieces of cat poop. The pleasant smell seems to change at random, and depends on the individuals.
There is no attempt to try and taste the excrement... yet.

Yuri was no stranger to poop.
Peanut and Bubs were both big poopers. They liked to do it every day, and sometimes Peanut would get too excited or frightened and Yves would run into the bathroom and come back with some tissues, muttering in a language he didn't understand while he picked it up and took it away to flush. There were two things Yuri knew for certain about poop: it always got put away somewhere and it always smelled horrible.
When his nose had drawn him to the small cluster of turds on the dock, his first thought had been an alarmed: Peanut! But Peanut was not there with them. Who had done it? He looked around, suspiciously. No one looked guilty, and their dog always looked guilty when he did... the thing.
After thinking way too much about some poop on the ground, it finally dawned on Yuri that he was looking at poop, but he didn't smell poop. In fact, he continued to smell very pleasant things, even when he hovered down close to it to get a better look. Was this the source of the seemingly random smells? He rubbed his nose and looked at Yves, who was preparing to hold onto Cruz's things for him.
"I found poop," Yuri declared, and pointed down toward the small pile. Yves made a disgusted face at him as if to ask, And??
"It doesn't smell like poop," he added, defensively. He made a face back at Yves. "Something isn't right about it."
Yves laughed, a short bark-like sound. "What, are you trying to suggest that it could be a fel essence? What kind of cruel world..." He shook his head at Cruz. "That kid, sometimes..."
Yuri floated back and crossed his arms, his mouth turning down into a small pout at his guardian's apparent dismissal of his discovery. "Fine," he huffed under his breath. He looked to Ian, Eden, and Cruz for support. "What do... what do you guys think, then?"
To Yves, it was just, well... poop. But Yuri's nose didn't lie to him, and he could just tell that something about that poop was just not right.

"Poop?" Eden immediately recoiled, staring down at the dark lumps on the pier. Sure enough, the needle in their compass appeared to be pointing directly at the offending substance. Just to be sure and to save them the embarrassment of collecting useless poo, she floated off the end of the pier and circled around it.
Ian took a step forward when the nymph floated out into midair above the waves, his heart leaping into his throat, but she seemed fine. Still, he wished she would have warned him. "Is it- Is it really the essence?"
Eden let out a heavy sigh and dragged her hand down her face. The needle had diligently pointed at the pieces of poop during her entire circuit, leaving no doubt that it must be the essence they were looking for. "Yep. Poop. Our essence... is poop." She looked up at the sky and took a breath, thankfully scented with peaches instead of the usual sharp, offensive odor that came with feces. "Okay- I confirmed it, I'm not picking it up. I'll be over here if you guys need me." She gave a long-suffering, frustrated look at Ian before turning in a whirl of her chiffon cardigan and floating back toward the crowds. Of course they would get poop. Of course. The other teams were probably finding cool essences, and they got poop.

The whole time Yuri deliberated and Eden confirmed, Cruz hung back with an expression that was twisting into several different reactions and couldn't decide what to settle on. First there was disgust, then confusion, humor, followed by incredulity, more humor, and finally a dissatisfied resignation. The croc pulled out one container of each size to judge what would be needed and, with an ambivalent look, Cruz volunteered.
"I'll-- do it--" His voice came out stilted, clearly hesitant, but it would be better to get the thing corked as quickly as possible. He had plenty of experience bagging poop from walking Tango and there were other essences to look for; it would be better to get it over with rather than be defeated from such a gross, silly situation.
Honestly, though, it really could have been worse -- at least it smelled of good things, happy things, instead of a rank permeating odor. With the feces in its vial, Cruz held it delicately between as few fingers as possible and away from himself. Still, he couldn't help but laugh at everything, from the essence itself, to Yuri's matter-of-fact assessment, and Eden's quick turn around.
"Where to next?"

Thankfully the excrement was pretty dry, and oddly enough left a nice peachy scent on whatever Cruz used to pick it up, and even odder that the scent don't change even if the poop in the vial changed it's scent. It sat contentedly in the vial as the Sigel stored it away.
Time to move on then?

[ SORRY LMAO I ROLLED AND FELL ASLEEP.......... ]
---------
Once the fel essence - although Yves was still struggling to accept that it was an actual fel essence, to be honest - was contained, there was nothing left to do at the pier except find a new place to search. Although he didn't know the area very well, it seemed to make sense to search the next closest place; since they were at a pier, he looked at the group and suggested, "The marina, then? Since we are right here..."
Yves walked over to Yuri and gave him a pat on the back. "Great job," he beamed, and then to the rest of them he added, "All of you, great job! We are very lucky to have found at least one, I think. How many do you think we can find?" Hopefully they didn't go far.
Thankfully, their group seemed to be very well-balanced in terms of reach person's strengths, so if they found one already, maybe they would find the rest of them just as quickly. Yuri stretched one arm across his chest, and then the other, face taking a determined look.
"We've got this," he said, a bit more loudly than he normally would have spoken. He was learning that it was important to talk loud enough for those around him to hear. It could also be said that the newborn Frei was building some confidence from the activity, too.

[ [SORRY CRIES THIS WEEKEND WAS SO CRAZY-- screw you, graduation and midterms orz ]]
Eden was relieved that they others handled the collection of that particular essence. Some sick twist of fate had given that to them, and she was beginning to regret coming along on this little excursion greatly. Yawning, She waited for the others to walk back down the pier to meet her, where she was leaning against the railing and scrolling through her social media feed. She had seen a few pictures from Vesna on instagram; of course they got the cool stuff.
"Ready, Eden?" Ian asked, holding out a hand as if to guide her back toward the car. The nymph simply eyed him over her sunglasses and sighed, drifting away from the wooden fence in a flourish of her hair.
"I've been ready since we found that stupid essence. The next one better be a good one after that," she mumbled.
They were actually able to get down to the marina fairly easily from the pier, without having to get back in the car. The boats rocked and swayed with the incoming waves, ropes and masts creaking with the motion. While it was not inherently unpleasant, there was a strong fishy odor that suggested someone (if not multiple fishermen) had recently hauled in his catch. Both the florist and his charge wrinkled their noses, and Eden glanced at the needle. "Let's hurry and find it, it stinks down here."

The scent of fish, the sound of the sea, the taste of salt in the air, these were all things Cruz experienced every day. So used to them was he that he barely noticed the fishy smell until Eden found it unpleasant. The croc smiled sympathetically to the nymph, no crinkle to his nose at all.
He had to commend Yuri and Mr. Yves for their determination, especially in the wake of... well, that. Cruz couldn't wait to tell Aina all about the doodie he had to pick up, doodie that didn't smell a dang thing like farts. Lavender, bread, peaches, maybe it would even smell like pomegranates! He could see the look on the rainy frei's face now, which projected onto Cruz's own as an incredulous smile.
"We got this," Cruz parroted Yuri in an attempt to be reassuring to the flowery duo of their group. From there, all eyes fell to the compass needle.

Surprisingly enough, once they entered the marina area, the needle did began to react! However, since it does have more or less a half mile radius detection circle, the group would probably need to walk a certain distance more. Thankfully for the group though, the entire coastline in the area is connected and has a path where they could comfortably traverse on.
The marina where the fisherman's boats were docked did not last very long as it turned into a short stretch of beach. The beach was not particularly populated as the area has a lot of ships and boats, so the water is not particularly clean or safe to swim in. A man is seen sitting near the far end of the beach, sitting on an upturned pail fishing by the docks.
As they exited the beach and entered the next area, which is gated, the scenery changed drastically. A few seafood restaurants dotted along the entry point, but the houses beyond that are posh and huge. They're basically seaside mansions! A large marina docked full of luxury yachts and sail boats of many kind is located across from the luxurious homes. Piers that stretch out into the sea, each far and long enough to dock at least 15 boats on each side. Boats as far as the eye can see are docked here, probably hundreds of them. And it is in this area where the needle is pointing into, somewhere in the middle of this marina. Thankfully for them, the marina is devoid of people for the most part. Only about a handful of them are occupied, some cleaning their boats, some enjoying champagne on the deck. The rest are presumably out in the sea.

Once they entered the gated area of the marina, Yves was immediately reminded of summers spent with his grandparents at their rather generous estate. He sucked in a breath at the sights, and Yuri took in the scenery with great interest. He floated ahead of the group, ears straight up and eyes wide as he scanned the surrounding area.
"Wow," was all the wolf said, his arms hanging loosely at his sides. He wanted to go and check out all of the boats up close - and, secretly, he wished they were just there for fun so he could do that - but this was no time for dilly-dallying. He looked back at Yves and shrugged.
"Yeah, wow," Yves echoed, fumbling in his picket for his sunglasses. It was so nice, it made him think of spending time out on the water with his grandparents, fishing and just taking in the sun and waves. What kind of fel essence would they find there? He wrinkled his nose. Hopefully something less.... poopy.
"What does the needle say, then? Is the fel essence nearby, do you think?" Yves asked, nodding toward Eden. She really did look like she fit right in there, with her flowery ensemble. Cruz, too, seemed well-suited for the beach; Yuri was the only one he felt a bit bad for, since it was probably a little warm for the Frei. Yuri didn't seem bothered by the sunlight, however, but there were already the beginnings of a sunburn forming on his arms and shoulders.
As if on queue, Yuri was then seen tugging at his fur-lined collar, his face suddenly uncomfortable. "Erm, I hope we find it fast," he mumbled, scowling up at the sun. Even with the breeze on the beach, he could feel himself growing a little warmer the longer they stood in the sun, and he wasn't dressed to play in the sand.
"I should have brought sun screen," Yves lamented, rubbing his neck. He was definitely wrong about the sun not bothering his poor child. Although it wasn't terribly hot out, the thick lining of fur around Yuri's neck and his very fair skin probably didn't appreciate the beach too much.

Ian's face held a slight expression of apology as Eden continued to sulk, but didn't mention anything about it. He couldn't really blame her; though it was a beautiful day, the heat only added to the ocean odors. Thankfully there was a decent breeze blowing in off the water, so it wasn't terrible. "Where should we try first?"
Eden, meanwhile, was watching the needle carefully. "It's just pointing straight ahead, so... I guess we just go straight until it moves again." She shrugged, holding the makeshift compass out in front of her a bit as she drifted along the dock. She rotated from side to side just slightly to check, but the needle seemed determined to take them straight down the marina's main pathway.
When Yves mentioned sunscreen, Ian ssmiled. As a fellow possessor of pale, alabaster skin, he had been sure to think ahead; there was no doubt he'd have had a bit of a red hue by the end of this excursion if he hadn't. Even the time at the party would have been enough to leave its mark. "We brought some, you're welcome to it. I know the feeling of a bad sunburn all too well," he laughed. "Eden?" He held out his hand as she dug into her bag and pulled out a relatively full bottle of the blessed sunscreen. He passed it along to Yves and Yuri with a knowing smile.
The nymph watched the exchange with a raised brow, but she did feel a bit bad for the poor wolf. She could see the heat was affecting him already. "Can you take any of that off? Like... Separate the fur from the rest?" She asked, eyeing the very warm-looking lining of Yuri's top. "It'd expose more skin but at least it wouldn't be so hot."

Chances were they wouldn't luck out and have a scent-based essence a second time, which was probably for the best if the first was anything to go by. With the scent of the ocean so strong in this area it may not have made a difference anyway.
Cruz followed the group along, trying to spot anything out of the ordinary but it was no such luck. Before long they were in a section of the marina he had never been to and, finally, he was just as lost as the rest of them. The sigel eyed the pier, the compass needle, and watched Yuri sympathetically. Poor guy, with the heat, but meanwhile Cruz was soaking it up. If they were out and about like this long enough today, he might very well start tanning early this year.
"Hmm," Cruz rumbled thoughtfully, "what if... it's on one of the boats?" He grimaced as he turned to Eden, as she would have to lead the way. There certainly were a lot of them, which made plenty of hiding places.

The further down the marina, the larger the boats get. As they walk along the pier, the needle turned to point outwards the fourth pier they come across. Whatever it is, it is somewhere along this pier. It's parked full of small yachts, some even look big enough to drive out into the sea and have a small party aboard of. Thankfully for the group, this is one of the pier that is devoid of people. Or at least it looked like it from the outside. Who knows if anyone is inside one of the bigger ones, which looked like it could house a room in the interior.
As they walked down the pier towards the sea, the needle began to turn slowly to the right side with each step. Whatever they are looking for, it looked like it could be behind the large yacht with the copper colored hull. It was huge and parked a little too close to the pier, so they couldn't see what was behind it.
However, when they caught sight of the dock next to the copper yacht, it was... empty? Two small stretches of wooden pier extended out on both sides of each docked ship, with a post on each end, no doubt to tie your boat to. But there is an empty space next to the yacht with the copper hull. Perhaps the owner had taken it out into the sea for a spin in this nice weather? Unfortunately for the group, the needle is pointing straight into this open water area, even a little downwards if they look at the tilting of the needle carefully.

When Ian offered them the sunscreen, Yves' face lit up and he gratefully accepted it. "Thank you very much!" he chirped, squeezing a small amount onto his palm and rubbing his hands together. Although he was no stranger to sunburns, he certainly wasn't a fan, either. He rubbed the suncreen onto his face, and Yuri watched, fascinated.
"What is that?" he asked, hovering close to Yves. Yves held out the tube for him.
"Suncreen! It protects your skin from the sun. When you are as pale as... well, you, it really helps." Yuri took the sunscreen and sniffed it. He made a face, not liking the way it smelled at all, but did as he saw Yves do and squeezed some onto his hand. It came out much faster than he expected, and Yuri looked up, helplessly. "Too much."
"Rub it onto your arms, too," Yves responded with a laugh. Teaching a Raevan truly was a unique experience - while some Raevans seemed quite advanced despite being just born, others, like Yuri, were quite obviously new to the world and everything in it. He was a smart boy, but everything was a hands-on learning experience for the Frei.
Eden had mentioned taking off some of his fur, which Yuri raised his eyebrows at while he massaged the sunscreen into his arms and shoulders. "Oh, this?" he asked, plucking at the fur lining of his top. While he was at least sleeveless, the fur was... a bit smothering, to say the least. He had never considered separating it from his shirt. When he went to go and tug at the fur, it didn't budge. He frowned.
"Got to take it all off, I guess," he muttered, giving the fur another fruitless yank. He shrugged, but looked a little troubled at the revelation. He had never been shirtless in public before. He didn't even know if that was okay.
"I'll be okay. Thank you, though." He gave Eden a small smile.
The further down the docks they wandered, the more it became apparent that the fel essence would likely be on one of the many, many boats, if it were even in the marina at all. Cruz had given voice to their concerns, and Yves and Yuri both looked at each other and frowned.
"The boats..." Yves started, crossing his arms. Checking those out wouldn't be easy. They couldn't just waltz into any boat they pleased, they were someone's property! Yves looked over at the compass Eden held; it was pointing to something, now.
Once they had walked as far as they could - as far as the dock allowed, anyhow - Yuri floated to the edge of the dock and looked down into the water.
"Um," he began, ears twitching curiously. "It... it's just water. There isn't a boat here. Is it... in there?" He pointed down into the water, which seemed to sparkle in the sunlight. Truthfully, he wouldn't have minded diving in there at all. It would be a great opportunity to cool down,
Resolve setting in, Yuri turned his back to the water and nodded. "If it's in the water, I can go in." He looked at Cruz, expression serious. The crocodile had been willing to jump into the water earlier, too. "Or you could, if you want. I don't mind, though."
