 Yuki raised her head to stare at the moon. A gentle breeze wafted through the trees, rustling the feathers on her wings along with her hair. "Sadness has its place in this world. We all experience it at one time or another, and it is not necessarily a bad thing. Sadness helps us to grow and to understand. However," She hesitated briefly, listening to the call of the night, before continuing onward. "It is when we allow sadness to overtake us entirely that we make mistakes. You say there is too much in life to allow yourself to show your emotions. That you must be strong for your daughter. Do you give her so little credit though?"
The young mare could speak from experience now. Her own father had battled similar demons throughout his life. His torment would often overtake him, causing him to rage out of control. At first, he feared what could happen to his family if his rages continued. What he failed to realize is that, in trying to maintain a barrier and lock these emotions away, he only caused them to grow worse. Ra'Avyn tried to be so strong for his mate and children that he wore himself down. It had taken Valadhiel, Yuki's mother, quite some time to recognize those errors. Aether, though not in need of holding off any Kalona influence, had made the same mistake and it had started to chip away at him.
"Your daughter," Yuki started quietly, the wind catching at her words as if they were falling leaves. "She likely doesn't want you to protect her from the darkness of life. Rather that she wants you to live it with her and let her live it with you in her own way." Though she had been the one to speak them, Yuki could feel her mother in the words. It would be something she would say to her father.

 Aether watched her and listened. Her words were so full of truth and yet he didn't want to admit any of it. He looked away from her feeling the tears. Had he hurt his daughter more by not letting her share in his pain? By hiding her from that part of life in general? He had only wanted her happy and not to feel abandoned or left to suffer with the pain of knowing her mother had run away with her brother for who knew what reason and had not been found. He had searched all over till his wings were tired and he had almost died from exhaustion and starvation trying to find his mate. For over a year he flew where ever he could and had not found her...He closed his eyes and let his mane fall in front of his face as the tears slowly spilled from his eyes.
Her words were touching and true and he felt ashamed for hiding so much from the one who had been by his side since she first breathed air into her own lungs. He heard Odens wings flutter and then felt the owl on his front legs. The owl leaned into the large stallions neck and nuzzled him softly. The Owl had been through a great deal of all of this and had always helped him out but didn't show affection very often but when he did it was cause Aether had no one else around to help him.
"You speak as if you do this kind of stuff every day...how can one so pretty and young know so much about helping someone with lonely thoughts and tendency's? You cant have experienced heart break like mine already? You are much too young." he said softly as he looked at her, still half hidden in the massive amount of hair he had, his large wings clinging to his body for more comfort as the owl gently cuddled into the front of Aethers chest and played with a the braid that hung next to his face.

Yuki lowered her head so that her gaze fell on Aether. "It is true. I haven't experienced the loss of a mate or the burden of a lost child. But heartbreak comes in many different forms though it leaves the same scars." She slowly stood to her feet and closed the distance between them before settling down upon the ground once more. Her teal eyes danced in the moonlight. "My heart breaks for those who cannot see passed their sadness. For they trapped in their own darkness, unable to see the lights that are there." As Yuki spoke the words, she lifted her right wing so that the tip brushed Aether's cheek to wipe away his tear. It was not necessarily a romantic gesture more so than it was one of compassion.

Aether watched her move closer to him and felt her wing on his cheek. He closed his eyes and gently leaned into the tip of her wing on his face and sighed softly, feeling her self relax a little more just at that small moment of contact with her feathery tip. He nodded at her words and felt warmth that he had not felt in years. Since the last time he had shared his sleeping space with Sgina. He longed for the comfort again and this female just felt so close to him already and such a comfort to his sad blue heart. He stretched out his large wing and draped it over her back and leaned forward a little to nuzzle her face. "You make me feel so lost and found all at once little Yuki. Ive not felt this comfortable in a long time with someone new." he said softly as he closed his eyes and felt Oden wiggle out from his chest and onto his back. He used the added space to lean in more and nuzzle her neck. "Thank you." he said softly as he didn't know what else to do. Just the comfort and knowing that someone could even care just a little bit who wasn't family or part of the herd was helpful to him. He didn't mean to come off romantic either but he wouldn't mind if she took it that way. She was a blessing to him in so many ways and he didn't think his heart would ever feel so excited and nervous about being with another female ever again.

She felt the warmth of his body as he drew closer to her. His large wing draped over her back, enveloping her in a comforting embrace. Yuki could feel her heart begin to race at the proximity. A warmth and fullness seemed to fill her soul as well. It was a feeling that she had not ever felt before, but it was one that she rather enjoyed.
"I only said what needed to be." The mare blushed modestly. She leaned closer so that her head barely touched the underside of his muzzle. "The rest was up to you on whether or not you would accept my words." There was a contented release of breath as she quietly added, "And I'm glad you did."
In that moment, Yuki wanted nothing more than to lay there with Aether. The world, for all its vastness, appeared to contort and shrink until it was just the two of them. Is this what love felt like? Yuki could recall asking her mother once what it felt like to love. Her description had been difficult to understand at the time, but now the young mare thought she could finally comprehend it.

Aether's eyes rolled down to look at the top of her head as he smiled and he rolled his body again towards hers. He nestled his body against her side and nibbled at the soft tender skin just under her ears. Softly and sweetly just a nibble. Something he did to show affection for those he loved. Nuzzling the side of her head he smiled softly as he felt his heart soften, feel less sad. Welcoming her into his broken heart and the pieces fitting back together, just a little. He didn't let himself get his hopes fully up, it was more like ribbons of her were holding them all into place. Holding all the broken parts together till his acceptance of what ever this was could fix him like new.
"I haven't felt happy like this since the moment my last two children emerged from their baskets. My heart feels as though its telling me to accept this but i do not know if you are just being nice cause i am so broken or if you actually care for me in some new way. I do not know what to think. But either way i will enjoy this moment and the closeness that you are offering me for tonight. It is a great comfort that i have not had in a very long time." he said softly as he nuzzled his nose into her hair and tried to remember her scent for always. He had once had feelings for a female after Sgina had left, the pretty female had been beautiful, had been sweet and shy and wonderful but even that hadn't felt like this. This was different...this was feeling better then anything he had remembered with Sgina too. He hoped it would last but he did not want to force her if she did not wish it.

Yuki basked in Aether's affection. She had never received such tenderness from another before. Even in her wildest imagination of what love could, nothing akin to what she currently felt had ever crossed her mind. A whirlwind of emotions stirred within her core. It felt amazing to have someone so close. It felt scary because it was something new. It felt-- Yuki pondered what word could possibly summarize all of the things swirling around inside. Nothing seemed to suit it all and so she settled on the easiest explanation. It felt RIGHT.
Aether could feel it too. The sadness that had marred his handsome features had lifted. Yuki could feel the tension he had held slowly, subconsciously seep out of him. "I assure you," She spoke in hushed tones, almost afraid to speak for breaking the serenity of the moment. "There has been no other that I have felt this way for. My nature is that of a protector and soother, to be certain, but in this moment I feel so much more." Yuki dared not say more.
Small doubts flared in her mind- about Aether's acceptance of her family mostly. He had been so wary of her that she feared what his reaction would be to her father, brother, and sister. Dynadin exhibited less of the Kalona traits of them all; however, Ra'Avyn and Rhoan were the opposite. Could he accept them, even in the smallest way? Yuki knew that she had fallen in love with Aether. She wanted her world to be part of his world and the same to be true for him. But, in order for that to be, then he would have to take her family as is--both the good and the bad.
Yuki released a quiet, almost imperceptible sigh. Those worries could wait for a short time longer. Here, in this moment, all that mattered was that they were together. It would be a shame to ruin that with her fears.

Aether sighed softly feeling his fears lessen even more at her words. He closed his eyes again and nuzzled into the small crook behind her ear where her head met her neck and sighed softly. "I have 4 children already...does this bother you? I even have some grandchildren...i am older the you are does this matter to you in the slightest? I do not want to take your life from you by keeping you from a younger male then i. Someone who would not be so far ahead of you in age." he said softly as he rubbed his face down her neck and smelled her. She was so comfortable. The scales of her neck and shoulders felt smooth and soft on his fur and his nose. They were warming from his body heat and the warmth that his large wings provided for them both.
"I know your headed away to see your family...will you come back to me when you are done seeing them? My grandchilds mate is due to have her first babies soon, i would not be able to go with you. I should be here for her. She was my adopted daughter before she fell in love with my grandson. It would sadden me to leave and find i missed them coming." he said softly. "But i would happily wait for you here if you would be willing to come back. If your ok with joining the herd. I do not think they will make you though if you don't wish to." he said softly. He didn't mind either way, as long as he could call her his and knew that she would not leave him for always like Sgina had done. His heart was filling with joy and felt so whole again after so long of being in pieces.

"My dear Aether," Yuki whispered as she nuzzled the side of his neck in turn. "You could have great great grandchildren and I wouldn't care. You have allowed me to feel something that I never thought I would feel." She pulled back from him a little so that she could better catch his gaze. "Please do not ever doubt what it is that I feel for you."
With that said, she cradled her head in the crook of his shoulder just where his neck met his body. "I will always come back to you no matter the distance. But--" Yuki bit her lower lip, reluctant to ask the question burning within her mind. "I must know one thing and one thing only. Given your history with Kalona blood, would you be able to accept my family as they are? My father is one third Kalona and my sister possesses the unpleasant food tendency. But they are both kind and loving. Please--" She could feel tears begin to well up in her eyes at the mere thought that Aether would reject them outright. "Tell me that you could accept them, even if it's merely as my family and nothing more...?"
Yuki hated the idea that she might break his heart or that he might break hers. Everything seemed to hinge on his answer to that one question. She knew that her family would happily accept Aether if they were to know him. It would all be a matter of whether he could see past their Kalona tendencies. Her heart ached from the panic she suddenly felt. If he were to say no, what could she do? Her family was all that she had until she had met him. The last thing she wanted to ever do was break his heart again. So would she be forced to choose? COULD she choose? Yuki's heart began to beat rapidly as her lungs cried out for the breath she didn't realize she had been holding.

Aether smiled softly as she didn't care about his children or his age. She was the best thing he could ever have hoped to come across. He looked at her a she asked her question. And he smiled softly and nosed her cheek softly. "Little Beautiful one i would never dream to hate your family. I understand what they are and what their personalities might have hidden but you are you cause of them and i find i am coming to love you and the idea of keeping you at my side and they helped shape you into who i am falling in love with. As long as neither of them try to harm my own children i will not fault them for their blood or what they eat. I might not be able to stomach being around your sister while she eats though if that is ok. I would never dream to make you choose between me and them." he said as he nuzzled her nose softly. "Breathe little one and relax. I will accept all that is you and your family and i would never make you hurt over choosing." he said as he closed his eyes and just rested his face against hers and smiled softly.
He could not believe that this night had started out alone and sad as normal for him for the last three years which had felt like forever. And he had thought he would have to deal with an attack on top of it only to have it turn out that he would find love. Find someone who filled his heart after so much pain and would make him feel young an whole again. Someone he could no longer see himself living with out. He would not lose her and if he did he did not know that he could ever bring himself to love another ever again.

Upon Aether's response, Yuki felt an immediate release of tension and anxiety. He could have said many things about her family. He could have chosen to turn away from them, rejecting them for their heritage. But, instead, Aether had chosen to look past all of that in order to be with her. That had been the only thing she ever truly wanted from another- the companionship and acceptance.
"My prince," Yuki snuggled closer to him, inhaling his scent more deeply. "No other day or night that I have lived has ever been so bright as this. You have truly won my heart in all ways." For all of her worries, Aether would accept her family. And, in so doing, he had fulfilled her dream of finding a mate to offer her heart to. "It is settled then. I'll visit my family to tell them the great news. It will be difficult to leave them, but my place is no longer fully with them." She drew in a breath and let it out in a contented sigh. "It is here. By your side. For always."

Aether could not imagine having found a better female for her. She just fit in to his new life and his broken heart felt almost good as new again. He knew he would always hurt for his missing son, and never knowing who he would be or grow up to be. Knowing his name or anything even. But he would hopefully make more children with this beautiful bird in front of him. Her pretty blue looks that matched his so well and her beautiful smell. He would have another family still and would be happy once more.
"Tell them i am welcome to meeting them after Thalatte has her babies. And as much as it saddens me i was on patrol when i happened upon you and i would need to get back soon so as not to upset those on the other side who are patrolling too. I can stay till you fall asleep if you wish but then i must get back to them sadly." he said as his wing seems to cling to her more and he scooted and pulled them as close as he could manage to do. He did not want to leave her, he now grew worried that one of his other herd mates would find her and grow upset with what she was. He knew she was tired though and she might not wish to come to his herd right now to rest for the night. "I can leave Oden here to keep watch over you if you wish. To feel more comfortable and it would let my herd know you are welcome here and have my blessing to be close to our lands." he said softly as he smiled.

Yuki closed her eyes and honed in to Aether's voice. It held a warmth and strength in it that felt reminiscent of her father. So this is love. The mare smiled as memories of her mother and father flowed. The way they spoke to one another, the way in which they held close to each other at night, even the way Vala soothed Ra'Avyn after talking him out of one of his fits- all of those things along with many more bespoke of a deep love for one another. It had been something that Yuki believed herself to be incapable of obtaining. And yet, on this brisk night under the light of a full moon, love had found her.
Aether's body huddled even closer now. Any closer, in fact, and the two would be melded together as one. Though Yuki wouldn't mind if that were indeed to be case. Still though, she had heard the shift in Aether's tone, slight as it may be, to one of concern and uncertainty. "Perhaps it might be best if I were to come with you...?" Yuki peered up at him from under teal and white bangs. "No better time than the present to give those closest to us the news. Besides, I accept that your herd may take issue with what I am. But it would provide an opportunity to show them that I am more than I appear to be."

Aether smiled softly as she said she would love to see his herd and to meet them rather then stay here. "That sounds like a good idea. You can meet Thalatte my adopted daughter. She is the only one of my family currently still here. Shvara has wandered off to explore and find her self. She comes back sometimes but its been a little while this time." he said with a smile. "They will be nervous but when i explain they will feel better and once they know you well enough they will trust you and not mind having you around." he said with a smile as he stood slowly and waited for her to join him.
When she had gotten to her feet he smiled and walked her out of the path, Oden flying over head and heading infront of him to find the way that he had come in through, to make sure he didn't get stuck with his large wings. It happened sometimes if he couldn't get through the right trees sometimes. Beautiful though they were sometimes they were a pin for him. But he didn't mind and he had the biggest area of their herd cause of his family history with this herd and the other one and cause of his wing size, it wasn't easy grooming wings this big let me tell you.
"Just stick close and we'll be there soon and no one should bother us," he said with a smile.Kaya Wolf Moon I think we can end it with your next post and then if you want we can do another one for in the morning before she leaves and she can meet Thal biggrin

Yuki nodded and stood to her feet. "I can't wait to meet her. From the way you speak, she sounds like a lovely mare." She held her wings wide in order to stretch them a bit before tucking them delicately back against her sides. "Rest assured, I will do whatever I can to allay their fears of me."
As they began to walk, Yuki found herself huddling as close to Aether as she could without tripping him up. It was not for fear that she did so, though. No, rather, she didn't want a single second to pass without feeling his warmth and companionship. For morning would come too quickly and soon their paths would have to part, albeit for only a short time.
The moon glistened high overheard now, casting radiant beams down upon the pair. Yuki gazed up at Aether- her teal eyes brilliant and entrancing- and she said, "So long as I'm with you, my prince."Tiger_Kisa699 Sounds good to me. I hope that ending was sufficient. I can always try to add a bit more if you think it needs it. biggrin
