In the darkness, it wasn't terribly obvious that Vashti was in pretty bad shape. The mental whispering and cackling were distraction enough, but she couldn't watch her opponent's movements very well without her head hurting, so she was easy prey for the creature. The flash of movement in the corner of her eye caused her to jump backwards and lift herself on her tail for balance before she could answer the hunter who had come to the rescue. No longer balanced on her stumbling feet, she surged forward with her own tail swinging, putting her opponent on the defensive just long enough to get close for an upward swipe to the face with the rod to set it off-balance before she retreated just as quick.
If they listened carefully, they'd hear her ragged breathing from the blow she took in the process before she hissed between her fangs, "I think I'm just barely alright."
The shadow thing seemed significantly weaker when he was finally back on his feet, so much so that his next attack actually hit! Kane swung the shown and felt it make impact, effectively smushing the shadow into the ground. And it went down, finally. Finally.
"Hah!" he actually laughed out loud, feeling a rush from the success of making at least one hit, the last one. He turned to the other two, the small smile out of triumph suddenly gone and indifference once again settling into his expression. "I suppose I owe you two my thanks," he said, tone all too serious. The words that should have followed never left him, though.

After they killed the shadow, she went to check both of the students. The quick vanished joy on the male one eased Shu's tension slightly. He might not be a hostile one, she guessed. "You're welcome, make sure you find a safe place to replenish your stamina and rest." Both of them were panting, probably year one?
"Are you guys come for rescuing civilians?" Shu asked curiously, they didn't carry any humans with them.

Vashti looked up at the hunter, struggling to stay upright. She settled for sitting in her coils instead. "We wouldn't be here if we weren't, they were practically shoving us through the portals. No humans, no FEAR, no us. But with these things running around, I didn't think it wise to carry my human with me while I looked for supplies to keep her alive. Killing her is the opposite of my task."
It took her a moment to locate her human's bag in the dark, which she'd been carrying with her the entire time until she had to drop it for combat. She dug through it until she found some first aid kits, opening them up in search of bandages or something to patch herself up. These monsters hurt.
There was some chocolate on the ground near his foot so he leaned down to pick it up as the hunter regarded him. He only replied with a nod as he pocketed the chocolate.
"I'll be sure to do that," he replied, then added after a beat, "you, too. I'm assuming you didn't get away unscathed by those...things." He did at least notice that she was off fighting her own battle a little earlier on while he was being tossed around like some kind of a rag doll. As for her next question, though, he kind of shook his head.
"That was the original plan, I think...but now we're all stuck. I left my human somewhere safe. Like her," and he jutted a thumb toward the other student. "Mine was bigger than me so dragging him around seemed a bit...pointless, at least if the intention was to save him."

Now the girl talked more and Shu recognized her voice from the radio. Therefore she didn't suggest the daycare organized and run by hunters. She already turned that offer down. "There are more reasons than rescuing civilians, I just wanted to make sure you two are." She smiled, didn't seem to bother with the rhetorical question. "I agree, you'd better find a safe place to settle them down instead of carrying them around and make both of you a bigger walking target."
Seeing she fiddled bandages from the bag, she wondered if the halloween denizens could use human's medical stuff for healing. "Thank you, I'm just a bit tired. Should be fine after a short rest." She turned to Kane with a big smile. Gathering the information given by the students, Shu nodded sagely. "Hmm, that's also our case. The portal supposed to take us back vanished all of a sudden, we're stranded." The petite hunter shrugged with a small pout.
