He stared reluctantly at the ballistas waiting to be loaded. The apprentice looked at his scrawny arms, sighed, and ran forward.

JOHAN IS LOADING BALLISTA ONE
With light restored, Johan followed Shun to one of the balllistas. He immediately saw the wisdom in loading them now, while they had time. The spear to be loading into the machine was massive, and as he saw the others struggle with it, apparently very heavy. He moved forward to take up an empty space in the chain they were forming towards the ballista.

Uru'baen IS SECURING THE DOOR
Tucking the torch into his sheath, Uru grabbed the table that once held the wooden shields as he applied it to the refortifications of the Gate. Slightly winded, he stood back to look at the Gate. It will take some time to get it good... but he will do his best. But did they have the time to do it?...

Jake had heard the noise, but nothing would have prepared him for what was ACTUALLY happening, and the moment he came out of the castle, the sound was horrific, causing him to wince at first before seeking out the source of it. Though, it seemed as if there was nothing out of the ordinary. Was it just his imagination?
The arrival of a great knight seemed to say otherwise, and his request seemed odd. Jake's reaction was probably similar to the others. Keep WHAT out? Now was not the time to ask though, as it seemed things were getting started. The sky was torn asunder, and before he even had time to process it, a memory surfaced, causing him to freeze.
There was a scream. This had happened before. No, this was not the TIME. He had to help. Jake scrambled about, but he had no luck securing a torch. Luckily, someone had one lit, so at least they weren't COMPLETELY blind.

[E N T E R AMY]
AMY IS SECURING THE DOOR Damn it! Why now of all times did she have to take up arms?! Ah oh well, better to do this half tipsy than not at all right?! Amy was about to march right on out there and shove her boot up the nearest derriere when all of a sudden---
TOTALLY STOLE THIS
There is a cut in the sky. It begins to split several directions like odd tree branches, further, and further until it touches the earth-
- And the sky shatters completely, revealing its true visage, the a thick miasma of black, churning and pulsating, as if the sky was breathing.
You stop, and a memory returns to you. This is part of what you had forgotten, and seeing it so clearly jolts you out of your sacrificed oblivion. The sky had always been eternally dark.
With that single epiphany, everything else turns to shadow, all light disappearing around you. You hear surprised shouts, curses, people fumbling to create fire-
- people dropping their half-built torches as a horrific wailing pierces the air, forcing any close to cover their ears as the ringing continues and continues and continues-
- And then you are on your knees, everything is shrill and ringing louder, and someone is shouting at you to get up, and you feel yourself running towards the door, trying to make sense of things - there is some light now, distant and bleak- you pass by terrified faces and run towards the gate and up to the ramparts to help.
Silence.
And then you look below.
Hundreds, thousands of misshapen soldiers stood below. Twisted, corrupted soldiers, horsemen and riders, and creatures they had subjugated, all waiting for a single moment. Waiting for their leader to arrive. It felt surreal, it felt impossible, and the closer you looked, the more it felt inevitable that one of their thousands of curved weapons, or crude spears would cut into you and you would feel intense pain and-
- "It isn't over yet!" Percival raised his weapon, his sacred eagle-crested shield. "Secure the ramparts, we need all artillery ready, we need extra reinforcement on the main gate. Move."
Amy quickly shook her head, the feeling of being half drunk quickly sobering and leaving her sadly. She grabbed the nearest object beside her which happened to be an empty food crate. Well something was better than nothing right? Case in point was the young man she saw hefting a freaking table up to the do like it was nothing. Wholly hell! Maybe she should try to do something like that next time instead of grabbing a crate, but then again she was a lady, and proper ladys should not even BE here right now.

Finally. Action. He was starting to think that the entire thing was just a farce to keep the apprentices engaged while the older knights achieve glory. He was certainly ready for it and followed the Blue Great-Knight to the ramparts. Visions of glory and war flashed through his head and he grinned widely. Bradley would fight back against the horsemen and win this time, he was sure of it.
He wasn't really expecting the sky to shatter though. And yet... something flickered through his head. No, that was the true color of the sky, one mass of shadow and darkness.
He was then, unfortunately, completely covered in darkness. He blindingly felt his way around until he found a spark of light among the dark and centered on it. At least someone had a ruddy light.

[ ENTER, Ezekyhel ]
By the time Ezekyhel had reached the castle ramparts, there was a thick sheen of sweat layering his rose-brown skin and a redness that had blotched itself rather unceremoniously across his face. He certainly hadn't been much of a long-distance type of guy, in the past of which he could not remember. That was for sure.
Still, somehow, he had managed to pass Ollie along the way. Had the boy stumbled over a cobblestone, or had they simply taken separate paths? In all this chaos, Ezekyhel wasn't sure what to think.
And when the sky opened and the light disappeared, he couldn't help but feel even more confused. Until, that is, the memory of flames licked at his fingertips and he was reminded just how dark it had been in a past that he was supposed to have forgotten.
Dread made his guts turn to mush, but the knight apprentice found courage in the battleaxe that was now harnessed securely to his back. He reached a hand over his shoulder to grasp its hilt within the darkness, then he tore his very shirt from his back and tried desperately to get the thing to light with whatever little bits of leftover embers he could find on the ground. Drenched with sweat, however, the damned cloth just didn't seem to want to light. Luckily, though, a knight apprentice carrying an already lit torch passed him by; and, seizing the moment, Ezekyhel reached out an arm and successfully doused his shirt in the flame.
With that done, the man sped off again; intent on reaching the remaining ballistas still needing to be assembled.

[Amrita Enters]
Chaos was erupting, and her little heart didn't know what to do about it. She was beginning to panic; she could feel the hollowing in her chest, and the dryness of her mouth. A great knight passed, one decked in blue, and gave a simple order: Go help them. Of course. That was obvious, wasn't it? How could she be stupid enough to just stand there, and not help?
With a meek nod she ran, shivering through the bubbling memories of the darkness in the sky, until she could scramble to put pieces of torches together, her shaking hands doing a poor job of making it catch fire. Damnit! There had to be something - ah, there! A boy with a torch.
Oh damnit, it was a boy with a torch.
Letting out a frustrated keen at her lack of luck, Amrita meandered her way over - actually it was more of a shuffle, her feet only leaving the ground once to avoid getting stepped on - and slid up near the robed one with the flames.
"Um. Please?" Was all she could force herself to say, holding out her makeshift torch and hoping he would understand.

Dirge was keeping to himself, wrapping the old puncture wounds from arrows he'd gotten in that Dwarven labyrinth. He was told he had to rest before going to find another artifact, which was horse s**t.
The earth shook.
Dirge was on the floor and clutching his arm, cursing.
The sky cracked.
He gasped, pressing his hand to his mouth so no one could hear him scream. The sky had always been darkness, everything was always darkness and-
He needed a light, needed to follow Percival. Where was Merlin? Who cared. Percival was here, giving orders. Dirge sprinted up the ramparts, grabbing a plank of wood and ripping off a piece of tapestry, setting it ablaze with another apprentice's flames.

Following the Great Knight, albeit at a much slower pace, Abbi finally found herself at the front of the castle and conveniently also found a lot of chaos. Another little "oh!" left her to see the darkened sky, but a moment later it didn't feel so surprising. (The candles burn faster by the window, don't sit by it, I've told you that time and time again, you ought to listen better.) What was surprising was how she'd neglected to bring her own light. With that task before her the teen set about rummaging around on the floor for something. There was a sort of panic to her searching and though she successfully found a broken chair leg that would serve for a torch, she hadn't found anything to light it with.
"Might I bother someone for a bit of a spark?" There was a smattering of light from others she could see by, but she did sort of need her own and wasn't sure who to bother first for it. "I promise to be very responsible about my fire usage as well." Was... Was that a joke?

Chris covered his ears at first as the horrible screeching rang out. It was like the worst, most ear gouging noise he'd ever heard. Everyone else seemed to be in a panic, but he couldn't find the source and that had him more worried than anything else.
He glanced up as a knight passed by, relieved to see Percival.
"Go, see what you can do to keep them out."
Them apparently, was a terrible mass of distorted horrible soldiers below the gate, accompany a horrific tear in the sky that had Chris swallowing thick fear. Looking at it consumed him, made his pulse race in his ears til it morphed into something worse, screaming and crying so loud it made his ears ring. He choked on the sensory input, falling to his knees.
Get up, get up, get up!
He shook his head and tried to focus. Everyone was seemingly working toward one goal - the ballistas. He stumbled to his feet to join the masses, grabbing a splintered piece of wood along the way. Unfortunately, he failed to get it to light, and had to search for the nearest available source.
He found black-haired woman with a torch and used hers to light the plank he held.
"Thank you," he said quickly, moving on to the next task.
