Johan kept moving, but not quickly enough to completely evade the cut his opponent returned to him. Grimacing at the sting, he could feel blood beginning to run down on the handle. He retreated carefully, testing his grip. The cloth wrapping around the hilt did much to wick away the moisture. His grip was as firm as his now injured wrist allowed.
He didn't want to switch to his off-hand just yet. Instead, he lunged toward his opponent, feigning a thrust, and then turning the motion into a sweep towards the dark-haired man's legs. However, his wrist betrayed him. The sweep missed.

Once in motion, Shun did not stop. He saw the next attack coming. A sweep. He shifted back, then came back in, arcing a slice down towards the other man's shoulder while he was open.

He seemed to be playing into the other man's attack pattern. As the katana cut deep into the flesh of his shoulder, Johan knew he wouldn't win this with an injured hand. He switched the katana to his off-hand, and immediately slashed upward, hoping to return some of the damage to his opponent's arms.

The knight apprentice had expected... more of Camelot to be honest. This grand city, with Great Knights and a Great King, and it was a complete dump. He was a little disappointed to be honest. Not much he could really do about it now though; he was already inducted and... well there wasn't much else to do at all.
He wandered into the courtyard, watching a sparring session take place. A good chance to take a look at the competitors for knighthood. Afterall, there had to be few spots for knighthood. If they were all allowed passage through, there'd be some that would just give their lives stupidly.
They didn't need to get in his way of glory.

The blade sliced into his left arm. Backing off some what, Shun gritted his teeth while assessing the situation. His swings won't be as precise now. As much as he'd try to ignore it, the wound would still like effect him.
He then move back in, feigning a strike from above but quickly twisting the sword as he swung to try and catch his side.

The young apprentice, fiery hair drawn back and held by a black pin, had taken it upon himself to find the training grounds, hearing the lofty words and the praises of the Knights, the ones with their Sacred Weapons. Many talked of valor, some told stories of how many shadows they'd slain.
Dirge needed one of those weapons. The spear he carried just wouldn't do; it wasn't a hero's weapon.
He arrived at the sparring grounds for the trainees and began to watch the two currently sparring. He longed to jump in the ring with them.

Attempting to not wince from the pain of the slash to his side, Johan pulled back and circled around, reversing his grip on the katana. He swiftly stepped back in toward his opponent, using his wrist and forearm to throw short, vicious swings from various angles in rapid succession.

Shun was just about to try and keep up the pressure. His foe had a lot more fight in him left than he realized, however. He tried to parry and dodge whatever he could, but it was too much. A number of small cuts were received all around. As much as he did not want to yield, it would not be a smart thing to continue this spar, lest things take a deadlier turn. Begrudgingly, he stepped back and briefly knelt onto one knee.
"Yield."
He didn't linger longer than he had to. Standing back up, he sheathed his blade. Perhaps he wasn't quite as familiar with the katana as he thought. He was going to need to work on that.

[ ENTER ] There was no time to waste wandering around. Gzifa knew what she had to do to get stronger. A rather intense scowl was worked onto her face as she noticed the whispers and giggles that followed her – as if to say she was too small and too weak to be worth anything in battle.
Well, she'd prove them all wrong. She too had noticed that the weapons the knights wielded were different from those she had ever seen, and those represented power.
The courtyard was already busied with a fight going on, and Gzifa regretted not being here earlier. She watched intently as the two men sparred each other, both looking like they were taking it extremely seriously.
She wouldn't be outdone, no. Grabbing a small sword from the pile of weapons by the side, she glanced around the crowd fiercely, looking for a fight.

"Spar?" The boy asked as he approached, picking up a matching wooden sword. She looked like easy prey initially, but her demeanor was stating otherwise. "I could use a good warm up."

Johan immediately backed away when his opponent yielded the fight. Checking his surroundings, he flicked the katana free of blood, and sheathed it. He bowed to show his respect to his opponent, and finally settled into a more relaxed stance. His good hand cradled the injured one, though.
"You're quite good. My name is Johan Klarstein. I'd ask who taught you, but considering our circumstances, I think I already know what answer you'd give." he observed. "If you're willing, I'd like to spar with you again."
He hissed at a twinge of pain from his side.
"With Bokken, though. I wonder where we can find the infirmary?"

Was he looking down on her? Yes he was quite literally, but there was something in his tone that made her tick.
Oh he'd be a good warm up alright.
There was no need to signal go, a warrior would be ready for battle at all times. Gzifa let out a small huff, eyeing her opponent before darting downwards and making a sharp swing at the man's legs.

Shun let out a breath, then looked around. When he focused back on Johan, he grunted and nodded.
"Perhaps, but I still have much more work yet, he murmured, "I will take you up on a rematch later for certain."
He wasn't sure where to find the medics. It was time to start looking. Making sure his sword was secured, he left the courtyard to begin his search.
